Verena Schaffer
Memorial service for Verena F. Schaffer (Potvin), 86, Anoka, took place Sept. 9, 2005 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids.
Schaffer was retired from Northwestern Bell.
She is survived by her son, Leroy Schaffer; grandchildren, Terrance Schaffer (Diane) and Lisa Schaffer-Harris (Geoffrey); great-granddaughter, Zahren; and sisters, Audrey Brush (Chuck), Gerri Van Lith (Henry).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted.
Interment was at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Charles Shromoff
Funeral service for Charles Lee Shromoff, 68, Champlin, took place Sept. 9 at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka. Rev. Tim Johnson officiated.
Shromoff died Sept. 4, 2005. He was born June 29, 1937 in Virginia to Otto and Doris (Anderson) Shromoff. He was retired after 34 years with the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, including the last 14 years as the bank's general auditor.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne; son, Wade (Sue) Shromoff and grandson Christopher, all of Andover; brother, Roger (Cathy) Shromoff of Bloomington; sister-in-law, Dorothy Shromoff of Hanahan, S.C.; aunt, Fern Davis of Clarendon Hills, Ill.; uncle, Perry Johnson of Rice Lake, Wis., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Shromoff; stepfather, Arnold Mesna; mother, Dorothy Shromoff Mesna; and brother, Jon.
Pallbearers were Leon Godeke, Jim Czaja, Bob Magnusson, Mac Michaelis, Dick Stasson and Lindy Lindquist.
Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Shawn Silvera
Funeral service for Shawn Silvera, 32, Forest Lake, formerly of Coon Rapids, took place Sept. 12 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids.
Silvera, a Lino Lakes Police officer, died Sept. 6, 2005 in the line of duty. He was born March 7, 1973 in Edina to Richard and Bonnie (Johnson) Silvera. He was a 1991 graduate of Coon Rapids High School and graduated with an associate of arts degree in law enforcement from Minneapolis Community College. He was a community service officer with the Coon Rapids Police Department from 1992-96, a part-time police officer with the Forest Lake Police Department from 1996 to 1997 and joined the Lino Lakes Police Department Aug. 4, 1997. He and his wife, Jennifer, served together in the Peace Corp from 2001 to 2003 in Honduras.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer; children, Jordan and Madelynn; mother, Bonnie Silvera of Coon Rapids; brother, Mark (Deanna) Silvera and their children Natalie and Henry of Crystal; sister, Nicole (Nick) Winslow of Isanti; sisters-in-law, Cynthia Vander Poel of Maplewood, Sarah Vander Poel of Minneapolis, Deanna (Jim) Ekholm of Richfield and their two children Ashlyn and Evan; brother-in-law, Adam Vander Poel of Minneapolis; many other relatives and special friends; and his fellow officers of the Lino Lakes Police Department and in the state of Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard.
Interment was at Epiphany Cemetery, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Roberts Eckert Funeral Home, Forest Lake.
Henry Uhde
Funeral service for Henry R. "Gordon" Uhde, 75, Brooklyn Park, took place Sept. 15 at Elk River United Methodist Church.
Uhde died Sept 12, 2005 after a two-year illness. He worked for many years in road construction and snowplowing business.
He is survived by his wife, Gerry; children, Linda Fiets, Ken Stone, Cheryl Blake, Chuck Stone and Anne Uhde-Platt and husband Vincent Platt; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; extended family, Sandy O'Hotto, Pat Stone; sisters, Florence (Donald) Brostad, Donna (Dennis) Evensen, Carol Holt; brother, Charles 'Bud' Uhde, Chester (Betty) Uhde and James Uhde; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, Richard and Selma; sister, Mildred; and brothers, Alvin, Kenneth and Clayton.
Interment Bailey Station Cemetery, Big Lake.
Richard Barland
Funeral service for Richard 'Dick' Barland, 58, Coon Rapids, took place Sept. 10 at Christ Lutheran Church, Blaine.
Barland died Sept. 7, 2005 in St. Paul. He was born Jan. 8, 1947 in Minneapolis. He was retired after 28 years with the Coon Rapids Police Department.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; son, Doug (Sandy); daughters, Colleen (Kyle) Sherman and Brie; grandchildren, Grant, Anika and Garrett; and brother, David (Geraldine).
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and four brothers.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Fern Brickman
Funeral service for Fern Brickman, 61, Brooklyn Park, took place Sept. 9 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Brickman died Sept. 2, 2005. She was born Feb. 16, 1944 in Winner, S.D., and was a college instructor.
She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Angela) and Ross (Shirley); grandchildren, Samantha and Brandon; sister, Kay Froslie; brothers, Russ and Jim; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Helen Wingerd.
Interment was private. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.
Dennis Burns
Funeral service for Dennis B. Burns, 43, Coon Rapids, took place Sept. 15 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Burns died Sept. 10, 2005 in Coon Rapids. He was born Dec. 28, 1961 in New York City, N.Y., and was a dialysis technician.
He is survived by his wife, Kristin and unborn child; brothers, Jimmy (Karen) of St. Cloud, Lance of Minneapolis; sister, Sharon of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; niece, Shalonda; nephew, Eric; great-niece, Trisha; aunt, Helen Phillips; and many relatives and friends.
Interment was private. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.
Ralph Horn
Funeral service for Ralph Neil Horn, 79, Champlin, took place Sept. 15 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Chapel, Anoka. Deacon Dominic Ehrmantraut officiated.
Horn died Sept. 14, 2005 at his home. He was born June 17, 1926 in Howard, Ohio, to William Robert and Mary Frances (Burris) Horn. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for SuperValu.
He is survived by his wife, Florence; sons, Bill (Vicki) of Champlin, Bob (Diane) of Duluth, Steve of Champlin and David of Ramsey; daughters, Judy (Mark) Senogles of Ramsey, Rose (Glen) Cunningham of Arkansas, Linda Horn of Forest Lake; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Dwight (Cherlyn) and Darwin (Donna), all of Ohio, Virgil (Joyce) of Florida and Ron (Carolyn) of Colorado; sisters, Eloise (Wayne) Beach of Ohio and Dolly (John) Lauderbaugh of Florida; and nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Mark Jacoboski
Funeral service for Mark Gerald Jacoboski, 49, Coon Rapids, took place Sept. 13 at Catholic Church of St. Paul, Ham Lake. Rev. Jon Vander Ploeg officiated.
Jacoboski died Sept. 8, 2005 in Coon Rapids. He was born Feb. 3, 1956 in Portsmouth, Va., to Gerald and Marcia Jacoboski. He was a project manager for Wells Fargo Bank.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; daughters, Brittany and Alyssa; parents, Gerald (LuAnn) Jacoboski and Marcia Gibbs; brothers and sisters, Steven Jacoboski, Cheryl (Gordon) Spencer, Paul Jacoboski, Suzanne (Marshall) Werden, Larry (Cynthia) Knoell Jr., Karen (Rick) Stevenson, Daryl Knoell; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Jacoboski; paternal grandparents, John Jacoboski and Mary Charpentier; and maternal grandparents, Charles and Peg Keller.
Pallbearers were Gerald and Paul Jacoboski, Larry and Daryl Knoell, Marshall Werden and Rick Stevenson. Honorary pallbearer was Steve Jacoboski.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Gearhart Funeral Home, Coon Rapids.
Sigfred Kent
Funeral service for Sigfred Ernst John Kent, 88, Andover, formerly of Anoka, will take place today (Friday, Sept. 23), 11 a.m. at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Chapel, Anoka. Rev. Liane S. Rock will officiate.
Kent died Sept. 18, 2005 at Farmstead Assisted Living, Andover., He was born Dec. 22, 1916 in Jonkoppings, Sweden, to Carl Linus and Thisbe Asta (Sjostrand) Kent. He was a World War II veteran and retired in 1981 from Anoka Electric Cooperative after 34 years. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church choir and taught Sunday school for 15 years.
He is survived by his daughters, Karen (Tom) Claveau, Sandy (George) Post; son, Stephen (Diane) Kent; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret (Vincent) Tanko; and brother, Gordon (Delores) Kent.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; parents, Carl and Thisbe Kent; and brothers, Justis and Holger.
Pallbearers are Thomas, Dustin and Nicole Claveau, David and Kristopher Kent and Eric and Zachary Post.
Interment is at Forest Hill Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements are by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Rena Kirchner
Funeral service for Rena D. Kirchner, 93, Anoka, took place Sept. 21 at Anoka Covenant Church. Revs. Nathan Powell and Ted Nordlund officiated.
Kirchner died at her home Sept. 17, 2005. She was born Dec. 5, 1911 in Oak Valley Township, Ottertail County, to Will F. and Ida B. (King) Lahrmann.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Linea) Kirchner; daughter, Mary (Steven) Chase; grandchildren, Ariana, Nicholas and Ryan Chase; sisters, Verlie Lahrmann, Lois Hagman and Glenis Lahrmann; brother, Fred Lahrmann; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldo; and sisters, Mildred and Lilah.
Interment was at Oak Valley Cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
