Donald J. Rodlund
Cindy (Kevin) Davidson of Proctor is mourning the death of her father, Donald J. Rodlund. The Duluth resident died unexpectedly on Dec. 2, 2007. He graduated from Denfeld High School. He was 67.

Following an apprenticeship with Walker-Jamar, Don worked for Chester Zimm, Inc. until opening his own business, Moberg-Rodlund Sheet Metal and Heating. He was also a skilled outdoorsman and craftsman.

Don is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Sharon; and his parents, Millard and Dollie Rodlund.

He is also survived by his other children, Jim (JoAnn) of Hermantown, and Kevin (Brenda) of Esko; grandchildren, Matt (Sarah), Beau, and Luke Davidson, Jared and Aaron Rodlund, Amanda, Matt, and Alyssa Rodlund; great-grandsons, Dylan and Gavin Davidson; brother, David (Carol) Rodlund; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Bob) Conley and Gloria (Paul) Bernard; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Thurs., Dec. 6, 2007 in the Cremation Society of MN Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jeffrey Holter will officiate.

Helen E. Carlenberg
Helen E. Carlenberg, who graduated from Proctor High School in 1931, passed away on Wed., Nov. 21, 2007, in New York City, N.Y. She was 95.

Helen was born Sept. 8, 1912 to Ruben and Augusta (Kochinski) Carlenberg in Duluth. After graduating from PHS, she moved to New York. Helen worked for Railway Express and continued to live in New York City after her retirement.

Helen was preceded in death by her father and mother and a brother Wallace.

She is survived by a brother Ronald (Elli) Carlenberg, one niece and one nephew.

Rosalie Sandra Person
Rosalie Sandra Person, who graduated from Proctor High School in 1930, died Sat., Dec. 8, 2007, in Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Cloquet. She was 95.

Rosalie was born July 28, 1912 at the home farm near Elde’s corner. She married Chris K. Person on Jan. 17, 1953. She worked at Nopeming with special diets and at Hultkrantz Market. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity and Pine Hill Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading her Finnish bible and singing hymns, and loved traveling and fishing with Chris.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chris, and siblings Larry, Arne, Rudy, Dagmar, Lillian and Sanelma.

Rosalie is survived by her niece Karen (Paul) Sample Sr. and their children Dagmar Skutevik and Paul Jr., special family friends MaryRae and Tom Annear and Elinor and Burt Schweiger, and other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services Wed., Dec. 12, 11 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of The Holy Trinity, Duluth with visitation one hour prior to the service, and at Utica Lutheran Church, Mt. Sterling, Wis. on Sat., Dec. 15 at 1 p.m., also with visitation one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army or your local food bank.

Leonard “Red” Lundeen
Leonard “Red” Lundeen passed away in Chris Jensen Nursing Home in Duluth on Wed., Nov. 28, 2007. He was 79.

He was born in Duluth to Joe and Meta Lundeen on May 1, 1928. Leonard graduated from Denfeld High School in 1946. He served as a paratrooper in the Army Airborne Division for two years. Leonard married Carol Peterson on Aug. 26, 1950. He attended UMD where he played football and hockey. He was employed as a grain superintendent for 42 years at Farmers Union GTA and Harvest States. Leonard was a member of the All American Club and Duluth Curling Club. He was a past member of the Elks, Mason’s and GEAPS. He coached the Lower Chester and Stewart’s youth bantam hockey for twenty years. He was the founder of the Stewart’s Bantam program along with Dick Stewart. He also played fast pitch softball for West Duluth and slow pitch softball with Stewart’s.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Meta.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Carol, his son David (Mary) Lundeen of Duluth, daughter Barb (Stephen) Lewis of Duluth, brother Warren Lundeen of Pike Lake, grandchildren Lindsey Lundeen, Lauren Lundeen, Bill Lewis, John Lewis, Tom Lewis and Jimmy Lewis, all of Duluth, and many friends.

Mildred Vukelich
Mildred Vukelich, who graduated from Proctor High School in 1941, passed away on Mon., Dec. 3, 2007, in St. Mary’s Hospice. She was 85.

The Zenith Terrace resident was born at home in West Duluth on Nov. 27, 1922 to Werner and Ingrid Simonson. During Mili’s childhood her father tore down a hotel, and in exchange for wages he was given enough lumber to build a modest house outside of Proctor. She worked for R S Patrick sorting industrial diamonds. While working there, she took a train to Norfolk, Virginia (1943) to marry her high school sweetheart just before he was shipped out for service in the Navy. As a widow, she moved to Los Angeles and worked for North American Aircraft as “Rosie the Riveter”, placing the outside rivet on the side panel of the P51. She returned to Duluth where she married John Vukelich, whom she had known all her life, on Nov. 8, 1946. She was a head bookkeeper for Electrolux for many years, then she and John worked for her brother L.W. Simonson, General Contractor. She did the books while her babies slept or played. For a short time she worked at St. Mary’s Coffee Shop, and at the Frost Top in Duluth Heights, which was across the street from her home of 50 years. Mili started working for Target in 1961, she opened with the store in 1962 and is easily remembered as the smiling lady who cashed checks. She retired early on a medical disability from Target in 1978. Zenith Terrace was their home from 2000 until 2006. Diamond Willow (Cloquet) cared for her during her last year of life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clifford Thompson (1943), and a brother Lawrence (1990). Her husband John of nearly 60 years, whom she loved dearly, died June 21, 2006.

Surviving are her son Thomas (Linda), daughter Dianne (Paul Buckentin) of Duluth, granddaughter Gretchen (Dr. Andrew Baltus) of Boston, grandson Geoffrey (Kate Ross, fiancé) of Duluth, sister Margaret (Bud Broman) and their children of Minneapolis and sister/cousin Pearl Wedlund of Denver.

A funeral service was held in Sunrise Funeral Chapel Saturday. Interment Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lillian (Zebott) Johnson
Lillian (Zebott) Johnson, who was born in Proctor and graduated from Proctor High School in 1939, died Tues., Dec. 4, 2007, in Solvay Hospice House. She was 86.

Lillian was born August 7, 1921, to Henry and Ida (Stebner) Zebott. She worked in the shipyards in Seattle and Tacoma, Wash. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran church in Cloquet and the AARP. Lillian enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and traveling with her husband.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl (Bill) in 1995, brothers Harry, Percy, Roger, Irwin and Milton Zebott, and sisters Hazel Hagen and Etta Zebott.

Lillian is survived by her children Joyce (Lee) Houtz of Carlton and Glenn (Gerry Tarnowski) Johnson of Duluth, her sister Gladys Rossberg of Gig Harbor, Wash., grandchildren Becky Johnson of Bloomington, Robin Bottila of Esko, Patrick (Michele) Walsh, Heather (Mark) Anderson and Lori Walsh (Mitch Erikkila), all of Cloquet, great-grandchildren Brittany, Brooke and Bryce Bottila, Taylor and Tanner Anderson, and Morgan and Jacob Walsh, sister-in-law Mabel Lessard, and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank St. Mary’s Hospice for the care and friendship they gave Lillian.

Services were held Sat., Dec. 8, 2007, in Augustana Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Hospice and Palliative Care, 407 E. 3rd. Street Duluth, MN 55805.

Rallin W. Sundbom
Rallin W. Sundbom, who attended and graduated from Proctor High School in in 1966, passed away at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle on Dec. 16, 2007. He was 60.

The Seabeck, Wash. resident was born Aug. 27, 1947 to Frank and Ruth (Pederson) Sundbom in Duluth. Rallin proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Rallin worked as an Electrician at Bangor Subase in Silverdale. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and enjoyed woodcarving.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Sundbom, nephews, Dean Welander and Bradley Stefnik.

Surviving are his father, Frank of Seabeck, Wash.; son, Chuck Fosness of Minnesota; brothers, Roger (Teddi) Sundbom, Vern (Marilyn) Sundbom, Roy (Belle) Sundbom; sisters, Joyce (Art) Welander, Phyllis (Warren) Sheldon of Michigan, Carole (Mike) Bonneville of Washington, Sharon (Herman) Stefnik of Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. January 11, 2008 at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Seattle, Wash.

Jewel G. Brayden
Jewel G. Brayden, who was born in Munger and was a longtime Proctor resident, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Thurs., Jan. 17, 2008, at Diamond Willow, Proctor. She was 91.

She was born Oct. 15, 1916 to Ole and Gertrude Corser. On June 5, 1937 Jewel married Kenneth T. Brayden. Jewel was an active member of Forbes United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star and an avid bowler for 60 years. In her later years she loved to walk with her friends.

Jewel was preceded in death by her husband in 1970; a granddaughter, Diane Brayden and grandson, Todd Brayden; her parents; two brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by her children, Roger (Nancy), of Leesburg, Fla., James, of Hermantown, Barbara (Ted) Vadnais, of Warba and Claudia (Larry) Molitor, of Hermantown; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; her sister, Margaret Black, of Proctor and sister-in-law, Edna Corser, of Hermantown.

A memorial service was held Monday, Jan. 21, in Forbes United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in the spring.

Broc D. Foster
Broc D. Foster died suddenly on Sat., Dec. 29, 2007 at his home in Littleton, Colorado.

Broc was born June 29, 1956 in Rapid City, South Dakota where he resided until moving with a military family to many world wide places. He was 1974 graduate of Proctor High School. In 1990 he moved to Colorado where he made his home the last 17 years. He was a carpenter/foreman for Concrete Foundations and Flatwork, Inc. for the last 16 years.

Broc is survived by his parents, John and Beverly Foster of Tucson, Ariz.; his brother, Rick Foster of Fort Worth, Texas; his sister, Tammie Foster-Weaver also of Tucson; and daughter, Carrie Miller of Saxton, Penn.

Alice Dorothy McGovern
Lifelong Proctor resident Alice Dorothy McGovern went to be with the Lord Fri., Jan. 18, 2008. She was 88.

She was born in Duluth on August 5, 1919 to Cyril and Alvina (St. Arnold) Archambeau. She married Albert Thomas McGovern on Nov. 27, 1937 in Duluth and together they raised 9 children. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and the Legion of Mary. She was also a member of the Proctor Moose Lodge 1302. Alice loved gardening, cooking and traveling in their motor home. She had a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh with a wonderful sense of humor.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; two sons, Terrance and Dennis; six brothers; six sisters, two granddaughters, Julie Mosca-Weber and Teresa Rewald; and two great-grandsons, Michael and Anthony Rewald

She will be sadly missed by her children, Mary Lou Mosca of Greendale, Wis., Peggy Rewald of Proctor , Thomas (Toni) of Proctor, Carol (Ted) Thompson of Duluth, Gerry (Sue) of Gilbert, Dawn Marie Strom of Duluth and Patricia (Sam) Michelizzi of Duluth; one brother, Leonard 'Doc' Archambeau of Herman-town; 33 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren and three more due this spring.

A mass of Christian burial was held Tues., Jan. 22, 2008 in St. Rose Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Sunrise Mausoleum.

Kimberly Marie Wilke
Robert (Kathleen Hannan) Wilke of Proctor and Susan Wilke are mourning the death of their daughter, Kimberly Marie Wilke. The Duluth/Superior resident passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Tues., Jan. 15, 2008, at her home. She was 37.

She was born Sept. 22, 1970, in Duluth to Robert and Susan Wilke. Kimberly was a graduate of Duluth Central High School and received an Associate Degree from Lake Superior Community College. She was presently working at Viewcrest Health Care as an Activity Aide. Kimberly was a loving and devoted daughter and sister, with a heart of gold. A high point in her life was spending time with her family, nieces and nephew.

Kimberly was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Edward and Harriet Wilke; her maternal grandmother, Irene Olson and her maternal step-grandmother, Marion Powell.

She is survived by her parents Robert (Kathleen Hannan) Wilke and Susan Wilke; her sisters, Amy Lynn (Ryan) Sellon, of Mason City, Iowa, Stacy Wilke, of Duluth and Kelly (Michael Saukko) Wilke, of Duluth; a nephew, Jaxon Sellon, nieces, Zoe Saukko and Jacey Sellon; maternal grandfather, Richard D. Powell, of Caribou, Mass.; aunts and uncles, Sandy and Allen Salo, Judy and Steven Seppo; ex-husband and close friend, Randy Wherratt, of Lake Nebagamon, Wis.; extended family and many friends. All who loved and knew Kimberly will miss her deeply.

A funeral service was held Monday in St. Benedict Catholic Church in Duluth.
