Sandra Smith

Funeral services for Sandra Lee Smith, 58, Coon Rapids, took place March 29 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Mike Van Sloun officiated.

Smith died March 25, 2004 at her home. She was born May 22, 1945 in Duluth to Franklin Martin and Adeline Ethel (Burgem) Anderson.

She is survived by her husband, Robert 'Bob' Smith; son, Jason (Julie) Ruud; daughter, Lisa (Scott) Banken; stepdaughters, Julie (Darrell) Bartell, Wendy (Chad) Sundberg, Robin (John) Sylvester, Susan (Todd) Boyer; 16 grandchildren; sister, Diane (Kim) Kassler; nieces, Jodi (Chris) Nordberg, Hilary Youngstrand; sister-in-law, Lynn (Rudy) Vraspir; brother-in-law, Dennis (Toni) Smith; and stepsister, Lucy Boyum.

Pallbearers were Jason Ruud, Scott Banken, Marv Sherva, Kim Kassler, Bob Martinson and Terry Brown.

Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Charles Welter

Funeral services for Dr. Charles John Welter, 77, Andover, took place March 24 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. Patrick Kennedy officiated.

Welter died March 21, 2004. He was born Nov. 26, 1926 in St. Paul. He was a dentist and founding members of the North Star Club.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; children, Lee Zimmerley (James), Charles (friend Judy Guyer), Mary Schmolke (Theodore), Debra Rakeiten (Steve), and Cheryl Monson (William); 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Mary King; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ruth Welter.

Pallbearers were Joseph Zimmerley, Justin and Cameron Schmolke, Michael Welter, Charlie Welter III and Ken Monson.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Nancy Whalen

Funeral services for Nancy C. Whalen, 60, Coon Rapids, took place March 23 at Church of the Epiphany, Coon Rapids. Rev. Bernard Reiser officiated.

Whalen died March 19, 2004 at her residence. She was born March 9, 1944 in Minneapolis. She was a secretary in city government.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas; sons, Greg Meyers (Michelle), Brian Meyers (Janelle), Jason Meyers (Angie); stepdaughters, Colleen Whalen, Kerstin Hasse (Greg), Ann Anderson (Trent); grandchildren, Ashley, Jake, Jordan, Erik, Arica, Austin, Tyler, Christopher, Patrick, Kayla and Leah; and siblings, Dennis Haertzen (Sandra), Karen Hudoba (David), and Doug Haertzen (Pat).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen Haertzen.

Interment was at St. Vincent Cemetery, Osseo. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.

Joyce Will

Funeral services for Joyce Will (nee Torkelson), 60, took place March 29 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids. Rev. Marcus Mork officiated.

Will died March 24, 2004 at Buffalo Hospital. She was born March 9, 1944 in Minneapolis.

She is survived by her husband, Gary; daughter, Lisa (Mike); two grandchildren; three brothers; one sister; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother.

Interment was at Glen Haven. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.

Emily Williams

Funeral services for Emily Lou Williams, 60, Chicago, Ill., formerly of Anoka, took place March 26 at Drake and Son Funeral Home, Chicago.

Williams died March 21, 2004 at North Memorial Hospital Chicago. She was born June 9, 1943 in Ardmore, Okla., to Margaret and Wilburne Chamberlain. She grew up in Anoka and was a 1962 graduate of Anoka High School. After earning a BA in international relations from the University of Minnesota in 1986, she began a career of more than 15 years as an immigration inspector with the INS at O'Hare Airport, Chicago. She was involved in her church and choir.

She is survived by her mother, Margaret; children, Aaron (Annette) Williams and Christen Williams; grandchildren, Isaac Williams; sister, Linda (Ted) Klohs; brother, Donald (Sonja) Chamberlain; and friend Doree Stein.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wilburne.

Interment was at Bohemian National Cemetery.

Arthur Downing

Funeral services for Arthur Everett Downing, 82, Anoka, took place April 7 at Anoka United Methodist Church. Rev. Brenda L. Kramer King officiated.

Downing died April 1, 2004 at Guardian Angels Care Center, Elk River. He was born Jan. 26, 1922 in Crookston to Bert and Emma (Edward) Downing. He owned Downing Jewelry in Anoka for 35 years, was a past master of the Anoka Masonic Lodge and member of the Anoka Shriners and Anoka American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Terrie (Errol) Sandberg, Sandra (Gary) Steinke, Cheryl Davis and Pamela (Chuck) Ronnebaum; grandsons, Jeff and Brent Steinke, Jon Davis, Brian, Rick and Jarrod Dehn; great-grandsons, Kyle Steinke, Connor and Brody Dehn; brothers, Edgar and Elmer Downing; and sisters, Lavina Gorden and Agnes Rose.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Orville and Wayne.

Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Dana Hahn

Funeral services for Dana R. Hahn, 34, Champlin, took place April 8 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Bill DeZiel officiated.

Hahn died April 4, 2004 at his home. He was born April 20, 1969 in Golden Valley to Raymond and Donna Hahn.

He is survived by his daughter, Gabrielle; parents, Ray and Donna Hahn of Champlin; brother, Jason Hahn of Anoka; sister, LeAnne (Jeff) Howell of Big Lake; and nephews, Jake and Matt Howell.

Interment was at Champlin Cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Donna Herman

Funeral services for Donna LaRoe Herman, 72, Coon Rapids, took place April 5 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids. Rev. Rex Beyer officiated.

Herman died March 31, 2004. She was born June 12, 1931 in Staples. She was a retired nurse who worked for Pillsbury and Totino's. She was also a member of the Sgt. John Rice VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children; brothers, James, Richard and Morris; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward (Bud) Herman; mother, Ella; father, Michael Kozitka; brothers, Leroy and Lyle Kozitka; and sister, June Markfelder.

Arrangement were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.

Warren Paulson

Funeral services for Warren Fredrick Paulson, 84, Burns Township, took place April 7 at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka. Rev. Norman R. Berg officiated.

Paulson died April 3, 2004 at Mercy Hospital. He was born Dec. 25, 1919 in Burns Township to Paul Bernard and Alma Bell (Wickstrom) Paulson. He graduated from Anoka High School in 1937 and began dairy farming near Nowthen. In 1961, he started Paulson Plumbing and Heating Company, which he operated until 2000 when his sons took over.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Janice Severson and husband Clyde of Minnetonka, Paul Paulson of Anoka, Barbara Conroy and husband Tim of Glendale, Calif., Roger Paulson and wife Janelle of Elk River, Debbie Paulson and husband Mike Miller of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; grandchildren, Erik and Kris Severson, Abbey and Karl Paulson, Eric Miller; brother, Ronald Paulson and wife Marjorie of Anoka; and sisters-in-law, Lou Paulson of Anoka, Ruth Erickson of Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Alma Paulson, brother, Allerton Paulson; and sister, Romaine Walton.

Pallbearers were Erik Severson, Eric Miller, Karl and David Paulson, Brad Dillon and Roger Larson. Honorary pallbearers were Abbey Paulson and Kris Severson.

Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery, Nowthen. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

John Perrin

Funeral services for John Emile Perrin, 75, Rogers, took place April 2 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Bill DeZiel officiated.

Perrin died March 30, 2004 at North Memorial Medical Center. He was born June 12, 1928 in Anoka to Leslie Herbert and Lucy Mary (Blanchette) Perrin. He was employed in research and development at Pillsbury for 33 years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Anoka Council for 45 years, achieving the office of state deputy.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, John (Mary) Perrin and their children John, David, Ryan and Amy, Cindy (Gary) Johnson and their children Chris, Nick (Vicki) and their daughter Sara; Jeannie (Doug) Gubbin and their children Tom (Danielle) and Dana (Jenny), Julie (Jeff) Mund and their children Stephanie, Alissa and Jacob, Theresa 'Red' Arndt and her children Bryan (Katie), Nikki and Trevor, Annette (Tom) Hiltz and their children Norma and Katie, Ray Perrin and his son Chad; Paul (Jerri) Perrin and their daughter Stephanie, Helen (Steven) Brack and their son Nick; brother, Roger (Victoria) Perrin; sister, Alice Smith; numerous nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, Dan (Wallie) Felix.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Lucy Perrin; and brothers, Herbert and William Perrin.

Honorary pallbearers were former Knights of Columbus Supreme Director Gayne Maloney, past state deputies Phil Harter, John Bachand and Matt Brletich, current State Deputy Willard Strand and State Treasurer Gene Hippi.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.

Gerald Peterson

Funeral services for Gerald James Peterson, 71, Coon Rapids, took place April 1 at Gearhart Coon Rapids Funeral Home. Rev. Roger Stensaas officiated.

Peterson died March 28, 2004 in Coon Rapids. He was born Dec. 15, 1932 in Minneapolis to Ragnar E. Peterson and Elizabeth Christopherson. He worked at Honeywell.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Debra; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Jeff Goldade; and grandsons, Matthew and Johnathen.

Peterson was cremated. Arrangements were by Gearhart.
