Armin Steinhaus, 75, of rural Winthrop died Monday, August 30, 1999 at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by the Winthrop Honor Guard.
Visitation is 4 - 8 p.m. today at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop and continues for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday.
The family prefers memorials to the donor's choice in lieu of flowers.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home of New Ulm is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Steinhaus of rural Winthrop; daughters, Kathryn Mary Steinhaus Drake and husband, Dr. Thomas Drake of Longmont, Colo., Susan Kay Steinhaus Drake and husband, Richard Drake of Pratt, Kan., Jane Helen Klement and Husband, Rick Klement of Gibbon; sons, Michael Armin Steinhaus of St. Peter, Kenneth Lloyd Steinhaus and wife, Carolyn of Good Thunder, Charles James Steinhaus and wife, Karen of Brooklyn Center; David Bryan Steinhaus and wife, Grace of Glasgow, Ky.; 21 grandchildren; sister, Florence Emma Forbrook and husband, William of Morgan; and brother, Eldon Edward Steinhaus and wife, Delene of Morgan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born on June 10, 1924, in Three Lakes Township, Redwood County, to Oscar Emil and Bertha Martha (Jannusch) Steinhaus. He joined the Navy in 1945 and returned home in 1946. He served as a motor machinist mate on the fuel tanker the U.S.S. Mattaponi in the Pacific. He was also a member of the Blue Jacket Navel Choir and sang at the funeral of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He married Mary Braunreiter on Oct. 25, 1949, at St. John's Lutheran parsonage in Morgan. They farmed in rural Morgan for two years. They then moved to Bismarck Township, Sibley County in September of 1951 and farmed. In March of 1963 he became postmaster in Winthrop. He later served as postmaster in Green Isle and Madelia. He retired in 1988. He was active in numerous organizations such as Winthrop Ambulance, Winthrop School Board, Lions Club, Farmers Union of Sibley County, Region 9 Arts Council, Sibley County Planning and Zoning Board, NARFE - Chapter 1444, and he was an original board member of Winthrop Medical Clinic in Winthrop. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop and had served was a past president and council member as well as a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the American Legion Post 314 in Winthrop and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) Post 4078 in Winthrop.

Ruth Maurer, 81, a resident at Sleepy Eye Care Center and formerly of Buffalo Lake, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at the Care Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church in Hector with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and continues at the funeral home 8 a.m. Friday until the time of the service.
She is survived by daughters, Louise Vath and husband Eldon of New Ulm, Carol Marie Talbot and husband Clarence of Ham Lake; son, Steven Maurer and wife Olga of Bella Vista, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; 25 grandchildren; brother-in-law, Edward Weis Sr. of Bird Island; sisters-in-law, Merle Maurer of Rosemount, Mary Haney of Crystal, Katie Kopacek of Olivia; nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John J. Maurer on Nov. 19, 1986; daughter, Delores Veigel; grandson, Timmothy Veigel; brother, Albert Redman; sister-in-law, Ann Weis, brothers-in-law, George Kopacek, Joseph Maurer and Gordon Haney.
She was born March 11, 1918, in rural Brownton, Penn Township, Sibley County, to Frank and Martha (Wendtland) Harry. Her mother died when she was six weeks old, and she then lived with her maternal aunt Alvina and uncle Gustof Redman, who adopted her on Nov. 22, 1918. She grew up in Buffalo Lake and attended school. She married John J. Maurer on June 19, 1934 at St. John's Catholic Church in Hector. The couple lived in Hector for nine months when they moved to Buffalo Lake She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at age 30. She entered a New Ulm nursing home in June of 1983. She and and her husband entered the Sleepy Eye Care Center on Nov. 16, 1983. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.

Calvin D. Hotovec, 47, of Fairfax, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999 at home.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Fairfax, with burial in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Cairo Township, Renville County.
Visitation is one hour prior to services today at the funeral chapel.
He is survived by his wife Pam; sons, Corey and wife Heather of Nicollet, Joel and fiancee Kelly Maurer of Lafayette and Jerry of Fairfax; grandchildren, Kendra and Arron of Nicollet; mother, Helen Hotovec Beckendorf of Redwood Falls; father Lester Hotovec of Delhi; and sister, Leann of Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
He was born Nov. 22, 1951, in New Ulm, to Lester and Helen (Rasmussen) Hotovec. He grew up in the Redwood Falls area and later moved to Fairfax, where he graduated from Fairfax High School in 1969. He married Pam Firle on Oct. 29, 1968, in Spencer, Iowa. After their marriage, they resided in in Fairfax. He worked at various jobs during his lifetime. He was most recently employed by Tom Palmer Farms of Fairfax.

Glenn A. Ruby, 84, of 1315 S. Washington, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999 at New Ulm Medical Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in the Soldiers' Rest section, of City Cemetery, New Ulm.
There will be no reviewal or visitation.
Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm, is handling arrangements.

Royal Hauth, 71, of Springfield, died Aug. 29, 1999, at University of New Mexico Hospital, Albuquerque, New Mexico, while on vacation.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Springfield, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield is handling arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Hauth of Springfield; brother, Gordon Hauth of Springfield; sisters, Renata and husband Lawrence Middleton of Springfield; brother-in-law, Wilbert Quiram of Lamberton; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Schwardt of Fairmont, Irene and husband Delbert Kietzer of Lewisville, Henrietta and husband Jack Johnson of Fairmont; brother-in-law, Bernhardt and wife Sharon Schwardt of St. James; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Olinda Hauth in infancy, Mildred Quiram, Irene Fromm and husband Alfred Fromm, and sister-in-law, Marlys Hauth.
He was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Bashaw Township, Brown County. to August and Louise (Schultz) Hauth. He attended country school. He farmed with his brother Gordon and his nephews. He married Bernice Schwardt on April 19, 1975, at St. John Lutheran Church, South Branch. He retired in 1995. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran church,

Glenn A. Ruby, 84, of 1315 S. Washington, New Ulm, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999 at the New Ulm Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; son, Steven and his wife Patricia Ruby of Brooklyn Park; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, two brothers, and his aunt and uncle who raised him as a child.
He was born March 30, 1915 in Charleston, N.C., to Altha and Erma (Mace) Ruby. After both his parents died during his childhood, he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Dr. and Mrs. Ray Wycoff in Nebraska. He later lived in Morris to live with his sister. He entered the United Stated Army in November 1940. He married Florence Thompson on April 18, 1943 in Benson. Following his honorable discharge in the fall of 1945, the couple made their home in various communities. They moved to New Ulm in 1969 where they owned and operated The Shoe Box. He retired in 1979. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Orland 'Orie' Thorson, 69, of Gibbon, formerly of rural Courtland died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at the Now Ulm Medical Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Courtland Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
He is survived by sons, Oren Thorson of Superior, Wis., Noel and his wife Colette Thorson of Cambria, Neil Thorson of Cosmos, Leon and his wife Terry Thorson of Gibbon; stepsons, Randy and his wife Renee Pohl of Waconia, Dale and his wife Cindy Pohl of St. Paul,; 11 grandchildren six stepgandchildren; one great- grandson; brothers; Robert and his wife Erna Thorson of Eagle Bend, Dean and his wife Betty Thorson of Cambria, John and his wife Marlys Thorson of Clear Lake; sister, Patricia and her husband Wallace Bode of Courtland; brothers-in-law Lylon Sr. "Bud" and his wife Dorothy Niemann of Hector, Arlo Olson of Gibbon, mother-in-law, Lulu Niemann of Brownton; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded In death by his wives; son, Dean Thorson; his parents; and one grandson.
He was born Jan. 9, 1910, In Lake Crystal to Leonard and Clara (Mennenga) Thorson. He grew up in the Lake Crystal area where he attended school. The family moved to rural Winthrop when he was young boy. On Jan. 25, 1952, he married Eyvonne Niemann in Brownton. The couple moved to rural Courtland where he worked as a soil surveyor for the Minnesota State Highway Department. Eyvonne died on Nov. 15, 1977. He married Ina Pederson in 1978. Ina died on Dec. 19, 1984. He moved to Gibbon when he retired in 1995. He was a member of the Courtland Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Byron A. Broste, 75, of New Ulm, formerly of Hanska, died Tuesday Aug. 31, 1999, in Robbinsdale at the North Memorial Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church In Hanska. Burial with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at Firle Funeral Home In Hanska., and continues one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his sisters, Marge Laingen of Madelia, Myrtle Frederickson and her husband Don of Hanska, Delphine Domeier and her husband Jim of New Ulm; brother, Burt Broste and his wife Darlene of Worthington; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother Arden and brother-in-law Arnie Laingen.
He was born Oct. 28, 1923, in Lake Hanska Township to Albert and Olga (Norsby) Broste. In December 1943 he joined the United States Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged In April 1946. He worked as a construction worker.

Bertha Harder, 90, of Morgan, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999 at Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center, Redwood Falls.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Morgan, with burial in the City Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, and continues 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church.
She is survived by brother William Mude of Redwood Falls; and sisters, Theresa Siegfried of Morton, Evelyn Knisly of New Ulm and Sadie Harden of St. Cloud.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and brothers Ted, Albert and Carl Mude.
She was born June 18, 1909 in Redwood County, to August and Augusta (Steinhaus) Mude. She resided with her family in Redwood County and attended country schools. She married Ervil Harder on Aug. 12, 1929, in Morton. They farmed in Brown County near Morgan. She entered Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center in June 1990. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and belonged to the Ladies Aid.

Vera C. Feldsien, 84, of Anoka, died Aug. 28, 1999. She was born Jan. 8, 1915 in New Ulm, to Fred and Clara Loesch.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; sons, Allan and wife Janet, Donald and wife Naomi; daughter, Linda Elliott and husband Gordon; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and lifelong friends.
She was buried in Morningside Cemetery in Blaine.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harry Loesch; sisters, Olga Barber, Hilda Johnson and Luella Deopere.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Ulm before moving to the Twin Cities in 1961.

DuWayne Pischke, 69, a resident of California, formerly of New Ulm, died Sunday, August 29, 1999.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou (Niehoff); sons Larry Pischke, and Robert Pischke; daughters Jan Martin and Loreen King; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Roland Pischke of Mankato; sister Delores Johnson of Wadena
He was born Nov. 25, 1929 in Wabasso to Art and Geneva (Kuck) Pischke. He moved to California in 1954 after serving four years in the Air Force. He retired from Eubanks Patterns.
His memorial service was held on Sept. 2, in Glendora, Calif. at St. Louise.
