George J. Mathiowetz, 88, of Wabasso, died Saturday at the Springfield Medical Center in Springfield.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday from the St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday one hour prior to services at the church A parish service will be held 7:30 p.m. Monday at the church.
The Sunset Funeral Home of Wabasso is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Agatha, five children, Linus Mathiowetz and his wife Marcella of Wabasso, Marie Barrington and her husband John of Batavia, Ill., William Mathiowetz and his wife Lois of Renville, LeRoy Mathiowetz and his wife LaVonne of Wabasso and Curt Mathiowetz and his wife Karen of Wabasso; 21 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Martin Mathiowetz of Redwood Falls, Lawrence Mathiowetz and his wife Ruth of Richland, Wash., Andrew Mathiowetz and his wife Veronica of Morgan and Paul Mathiowetz of Milwaukee, Wis.; a sister Anna Zinniel of Winnebago.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Patricia Schueller in 1995; brother, Francis; sister Estelle; two brothers and a sister in infancy.
He was born Sept. 4, 1911 in Eden Township to Frank and Margarette (Rusch) Mathiowetz. He grew up on the family farm in Eden and attended country school and also the St. Mary's Parochial School in Sleepy Eye. On May 14, 1935 he married Agatha Heiderscheidt in the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Morgan. They farmed in the area until moving to a farm in Vail Township where he continued to farm. In 1992, they moved to Wabasso. He was a member St. Anne's and the St. George Society. George served many years on the Vail Township Board.

Bernice Catherine Bergstrom, 73, of Eagle Bend, died Sunday, August 22, 1999, at Long Prairie.
Services were held Aug. 26, at Clarissa, with burial in the Eagle Bend Catholic Cemetery.
She is survived by sons Michael and wife of Montana, John and wife of Paynesville; daughters Carla of Montana, Barbara and husband of Eagle Bend and Jane of St. Cloud; brothers Willard of Oregon, Marshall and wife Blanche of Gibbon; sisters Alice Payne of Missouri, Lillian and husband Harold of New London; sister-in-laws Myra Bushard of Gibbon and Marian Bushard of California and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Daniel; brothers and sisters Larry of California, Leo of Gibbon, Ellen of Gibbon; brother-in-law Dean Glaeser of Gibbon, brother-in-law Glen Payne of Missouri and sister-in-law Joyce Bushard of Oregon.
She was born April 2, 1926 to James and Eleanora (Seifert) Bushard at Gibbon in Sibley County. She attended Gibbon grade school and graduated from Gibbon High School in 1944. She married Donald Bergstrom in Gibbon in 1946 and then moved to Eagle Bend. She was an active member in her church.

Dolores Larsen, 75, of Sleepy Eye, died on Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999 at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital.
Services are 2 p.m. at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Morgan with burial in the Morgan City Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m Wednesday at the church. Nelson Funeral Home of Redwood Falls handled arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Julius and three daughters, Connie Miller of Sleepy Eye, Barbara Hewitt of St. Paul, and Karen Larsen of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren; brothers and sisters; Augusta Wittwer of Joshua Tree, Calif., Amelia Billmeier of Sleepy Eye, Alvin Kopischke of Redwood Falls, Minnie Billmeier of Richfield, Theodore Kopischke of Bemidji, Gladys Stenrodden and husband Ove and Eleanor Tigges, of Minneapolis, Helen Benson and husband, Verlin of Cosmos, Johnny Kopischke and wife, Irene of Wadena and Lester Kopischke and wife, Eileen of Bay City, Mich.
She was preceded in death by four brothers.
Dolores Verna Larsen was born on Feb. 29, 1924 in Morgan to daughter of Carl and Anna (Richther) Kopischke. She grew up on the family farm, attending District 90 Redwood County Schools. She married Julius E. Larsen on March 11, 1943 in Redwood Falls. They lived in Morgan until 1986 when they moved to Park Rapids. On May 10, 1996 they moved to Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. She worked as a nurses aid at the Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan for 24 years. She was active in her church as a Sabbath School leader for the children's department, a Vacation Bible School leader, Community Service, deaconess and Adult Sabbath School secretary and treasurer.

Esther Sprink, 98, of Springfield, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Springfield United Methodist Church with burial in North Star E.U.B. Cemetery in Springfield.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday and 7:30-9 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield and one hour before the service at the church.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann and her husband Donald Prechel of Comfrey; three grandchildren, Jodi and her husband Byron Nielson of Allen, Texas, Jill Prechel of St. Cloud, Arlo Prechel and fiancee Brenda Gerdes of Litchfield; three great-grandchildren, Jason, Kent and Kyle Nielson of Allen, Texas; sister-in-law Ruth Kersten of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred; sisters, Mary, Lena, Lillian, Johanna, Martha, and Elda; and brothers William, Carl, George and Albert.
She was born April 5, 1901 in North Star Township, to Gustav and Louise (Krueger) Kersten. She attended rural schools. On March 10, 1926 she married Alfred Sprink in North Star. They farmed north of Springfield until Alfred's death in 1951. She than moved into Springfield and cooked at the public school for 18 years. In 1981 she moved to Comfrey and in 1997, she became a resident at St. John Lutheran Home. She was a member of the Springfield United Methodist Church and, while in Comfrey, attended the Congregational Church there.

Douglas R. Oakland, 48, of rural Winthrop died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at his residence.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today and continues at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral chapel.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Joyce and Bill Ittel of Winthrop; brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Renee Oakland of Winthrop; niece and nephews; two aunts, including Viola Frank of Winthrop.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford "Oakie" Oakland; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius White of Glencoe and Mr. and Mrs. Carl W. Anderson of Winthrop.
He was born on Dec. 19, 1950, in New Ulm, to Clifford and Joyce (White) Oakland. He graduated from Winthrop High School in 1968. He continued his education at Winona Tech and became a surveyor. He was employed at numerous jobs, and his last employment was at Hands Inc. in Winthrop. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Winthrop.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to either mental health or chemical of dependency programs.

DeLores 'Lotty' Schnobrich, 78, of Bloomington and formerly of the Lafayette and New Ulm areas, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm. There will be no visitation or reviewal. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is handling arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis Schnobrich of Bloomington; daughter and son-in-law, Charyl and Paul Braun of Pasadena, Calif.; sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Cheryl Schnobrich of St. Louis Park, and William and Blanca Schnobrich of Pasadena, Calif.; son, James Schnobrich of San Francisco,calif.; grandchildren, Kip Braun, and Alexis, Camille, and Selby Schnobrich.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son in infancy.
She was born March 19, 1921 in Lafayette to Hilding and Minnie (Saffert) Swenson. She attended grade school in Lafayette and graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School in New Ulm in 1939. She then attended two years of business college in Minneapolis. On Dec. 1, 1945 she married Dennis Schnobrich at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. They lived for a short time in Lafayette and Richfield before moving to New Ulm in the late 1940s. She worked as a bookkeeper for Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis and Peter's Meats and Pinks Clothing both in New Ulm. In 1973 they moved to Bloomington, and she worked as a business and accounting "employee trainer" for Target stores when they expanded to the West Coast. She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Bloomington and a past member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. While living in New Ulm she was active with the Loretto Hospital Auxiliary and many other community organizations.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to New Ulm Area Catholic Schools (NUACS).

Carroll E. Moore, 66, of rural Green Isle died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at his home.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Green Isle with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8:30 p.m. today at Fenske Funeral Home in Arlington and continues 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Brendan Catholic Church. Parish prayers will be held 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Green Isle; sons, Jerry Moore of Arlington, Richard and his wife Wendy Wyant-Moore of North Mankato; daughters Rose Kuenzel and special friend Al Maki of Young America, Carol Lee and husband Duane Hacker of Lafayette, Jean and husband Allan Bening of Arlington, Jo and husband Jeff Liebhard of Belle Plaine; son-in-law, Randy Kuenzel of Hamburg; mother, Elizabeth Moore of Columbus, Neb.; brothers, Joseph and wife Rosemary of Columbus, Paul of Cedar Rapids, Donald and wife Sharon of Columbus, Neb., Fritz and wife Judy of Boulder, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ilo; grandson, Jordon Liebhard; brother, Anthony; sister, Mary Elizabeth; and sisters-in-law, Rose and Marge.
He was born in Cedar Rapids, Neb., on Aug. 12, 1933, to Ilo and Elizabeth (Yilk) Moore. He graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1951. He married Betty Kretz on June 28, 1955 in Columbus, Neb. He entered the Army on June 12, 1956 where he served as SP4 Corporal Specialist Third Class at Fort Lewis, Wash. He was discharged March 17, 1958. He worked at Waconia Manufacturing as an experimental mechanic for 21 years. In 1984, he began work at Farmhand Manufacturing as a layout technician.

Mary J. Karl, 47, of Rochester, formerly of New Ulm, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester following a three-year illness with cancer.
Services are 11 a.m. today at Ranfranz Funeral Home in Rochester with a visitation one half hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church New Ulm with burial to follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:15-10:15 a.m. at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm.
She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Butt of Rochester; sisters, Dr. Lois J. Karl and husband J. Roy Black of Michigan, Eileen M. Welna and husband Thomas J.Welna of St. Paul; brother , Thomas M. Karl of Denver, Colo.; stepsons, Randall S. Butt of Panama City, Fla., Scott A. Butt of Spencer, Iowa, Wayne A. Butt-Schmidt of Woodburry, Kevin P. Butt of Cottage Grove; nine stepgrandchildren; aunt, Helen Bierbaum of New Ulm; two nephews and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was born Dec. 31, 1951, in New Ulm to Lester and Ethel (Leary) Karl. She graduated from New Ulm High School in 1969 and from Mankato State University in 1974 with a bachelor of arts degree in marketing and business administration. She married Robert H. Butt Feb. 29, 1980. She joined George Korenchen of New Ulm Travel and Travel fun Tours serving as general manager and vice president. In 1993 she joined Burnet Realty in Rochester, working as a realtor. She was a volunteer with the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester, and also a member of the Kiwanis clubs of New Ulm and Rochester.

Arra F. Madsen, 97, formerly of New Ulm, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999 at Good Samaritan Village Nursing Home in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ in New Ulm with burial in the City Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation is 4-6 p.m. today and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday.
She is survived by daughters and sons in law, Agnes and Kenneth Plautz of Minnetonka, Dorothy Dyrssen of Sioux Falls, S.D., Shirley and Dalaine Baade of North Mankato; son and daughter-in-law, William and Barbara Madsen of Rochester; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and sisters, Florence Potter of Jeffers, and Cora Toreen of Winthrop.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Neils C. Madsen on May 17, 1979; daughters, Lucille Slander and Katherine Sehr; granddaughter in infancy; sisters, Alice Schirlinger and Viola Gieseke; and brothers, Herbert, Erwin, Clarence and Elmer Scheible.
She was born on April 13, 1902, in Cottonwood Township, Brown County, to William and Anna Scheible. She married Neils C. Madsen on April 21, 1926, in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in New Ulm. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in New Ulm.

Meta Crouch, 94, of Sleepy Eye died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, in Sleepy Eye.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in the Home Cemetery.
Visitation is 12:30-1:30p.m. Monday at church. Arrangements are handled by Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
She is survived by her son, Gerald "Bud" and wife Beverly Schuler of Redwood Falls; daughters, Marian and husband Lloyd Johnson of Seattle, Wash., and Lois and husband Dean Randall of Seattle, Wash.; son-in-law, Earl Trichler of Imperial Beach, Calif., eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; twin sister, Minnie Bluhm and sister, Otileta Paape, both of Redwood Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Anton in 1927; husband Stanley in 1987; daughter, Phyllis, son-in-law Lavern Severson; brothers, Walter and Carl; and sisters Ann McKay, Emma Ward and Martha Bohn.
She was born May 7, 1905, in Morgan to Carl and Wilhemena (Ott) Paape. She grew up in Morgan, graduating from Morgan Public School. She married Anton Schuler in 1922 in New Ulm. The couple lived in New Ulm where Meta worked at Union Hospital. Anton died Sept. 27, 1927. She continued to live in New Ulm for several years. She married Stanley Crouch on July 3, 1938 in New Ulm. The couple lived in Sleepy Eye, where Meta worked as a cook at Sleepy Eye Public School and also seasonally at Del Monte for more than 35 years. She was a member of St.John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, the Ladies Aid, Legion Auxiliary and the Sleepy Eye Bowling Association.
