James Kreitinger, 64, of Miami died Sept. 2, 1999, at Baptist Hospital in Miami.
James Donald Kreitinger was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Springfield to Bernard and Jessie (Larson) Kreitinger. He served 20 years in the United States Navy and retired as Chief Petty Officer. He then worked 18 years for Ryder Trucking main office in Miami.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbie Kreitinger of Miami; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Flora Kreitinger of Kirkland, Ill., Ken and Millie Kreitinger of Earlville, Ill; sister, Patricia Ginther of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Angela in 1988 and his parents.

Marlo Johnson, 70, of Madelia, died Tuesday, September. 7, 1999 at the Madelia Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Madelia United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Odin.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madeliaand one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife; step-sons Dan Flicek with wife Kathy of Mendota Heights, and Greg Flicek of Hayward, Wis.; step-daughters and their husbands Jane and Bob Sorenson, Julie and Jeff Halvorson, all of Madelia, and Joan and Don Johnson of Elko; 12 step-grandchildren; brother Ken and his wife Mary Ellen of San Jacinto, Calif.
He was preceeded in death by his parents and his first wife.
He was born June 23, 1929 in rural St. James to Frank and Belle (Johnson) Johnson. He grew up in rural St. James, Ormsby and Odin and graduated from St. James High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea 1951-53. When he returned he attended Mankato State Teacher's College and received degrees in business education and physical education in 1957. He married Alma Leigh Barickman June 28, 1951. He taught business education at Welcome before teaching in Madelia for 28 years. He also coached football, basketball and golf. Alma died in 1984. He married Ruth Halloran Flicek on April 13, 1985. He retired from teaching in 1990. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Madelia, a life member of the VFW and American Legion, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 192 and the Masonic Lodge 96, all in St. James, as well as a life member of the National education Association and the Minnesota Education Association. He was also a member and board member of the Watonwan County Historical Society.

Harold "Chief" Voeltz, 82, of Nicollet died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999 at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with burial in the Church Cemetery, Nicollet Township, Nicollet County. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Nicollet American Legion Post #510 of Nicollet.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Mary Voeltz of Nicollet; grandchilden, Alan Voeltz of St. Peter, Daniel Voeltz of Nicollet, and Christopher Voeltz of St. Peter; a greatgrandson, Aaron Voeltz of St. Peter; a sister Frieda Gregory of Milwaukee, Wis.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Verona and Bill Wilking of North Mankato, a sister-in-law Shirlee Enter of Nicollet, and a brother-in-law, Richard Smith of Westminster, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Agnes Voeltz on Aug. 1, 1999, a daughter Beverly Voeltz on Dec. 30, 1987, a great granddaughter, a sister-in-law, Mildred Smith, and brothers-in-law Paul Gregory and Lawrence Enter.
He was born June 24, 1917 in Ogema, Becker County, to Emil and Martha (Otto) Voeltz. On June 15, 1937 he married Agnes Enter at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet. After marriage they lived in Nicollet. In 1944 he enlisted in the United States Navy, "Seabees," and served during WWII in both the American and Asiatic Pacific Theatres. He obtained the rank of Chief Carpenter's Mate. After his active military he served for 19 years in the Navy Active Reserves. After his active military service he returned to Nicollet and joined his father in the carpentry trade where they owned and operated "Voeltz Building," working in both the Nicollet and St. Peter areas. He worked there for 36 years before retiring from his own business. For the next six years he worked for the Standard Lumber Company in St. Peter as a crew foreman in construction and then retired. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet, a member and past commander of the Nicollet American Legion Post #510 and had also held many other post offices, a member of the Nicollet Conservation Club and had served many years on the clubs board of directors. For over 40 years he also taught gun training to children, which was sponsored by both the conservation club and the DNR. In February 1997 he became a resident of the Mankato House Health Care Center in Mankato where his wife was a resident. The family prefers memorials to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet.

Rose F. Schneider, 84, of Springfield died Sept. 9, 1999 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30 -10 a.m. Saturday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. There will be a Parish prayer service 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and a C.C.W. Rosary at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
She is survived by her sister, Dolly and her husband Albert Hertling of Glenwood; brothers, I.J. "Bud" and wife Dolores Baumann of Tracy, Art and Alice Baumann of Springfield; sisters-in-law Germaine Baumann of Springfield, Evelyn Baumann of Montevideo, Jane Baumann of Wabasso, Adeline and husband Vic Huesner of New Ulm; brothers-in-law Clarence Cramer of Revere, Eugene Buyck of Garvin, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; her husband Armin; brothers John, Leo, Vincent, Raymond; sisters Josephine Donner, Ann Cramer and Betty Buyck
She was born Dec. 4, 1914 in Springfield to John and Mary (Nachtmann) Baumann where she grew up and attended St. Raphael's Catholic School. On Oct. 21, 1937 she married Arminn Schneider in New Ulm. Following marriage the couple made their home in New Ulm. Rose returned to Springfield in 1977 following Armin's death. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield and St. Anne's C.C.W.

Thomas "Tommy" Hayes, 71, of Littleton, Colo, formerly of Comfrey, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at his residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Family Funeral Care in Englewood, Colo., with burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery, staging area "B", Denver, Colo., with honors by the U.S. Air Force.
Visitation will one hour before the service at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife Pat; sons, Thomas Hayes of Denver and Patrick Hayes of Boulder; sisters, Verona Lindmeyer of New Ulm, and Patricia and her husband Bob Flynn of Nerstrand; brothers, DeWayne and his wife Betty Jane Hayes of St. Cloud, and Richard and his wife Diane Hayes of Bloomington; sisters-in-law: Helen Hayes of Seal Beach, Calif. and Betty Hayes of Edina; nine nephews and six nieces.
He was preceeded in death by his parents and brothers James and Vincent Hayes.
He was born Dec. 9, 1927 in Comfrey to Leo and Blanche (Curley) Hayes. He served in the United States Air Force for four years, receiving the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He maried Elizabeth Jean (Pat) Ray in San Francisco, Calif. on Sept.11, 1954. He was a retired optician. He resided in Littleton since June 1978.
Memorials are preferred to the American Humane Association, 63 Inverness Drive East, Englewood, Colo., 80112.

Fritz Larson, 87, of Minneapolis, formerly of New Ulm, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1999 at the Mission Nursing Home in Minneapolis.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Church of Christ in New Ulm with burial to follow in the city cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife Donna of Minneapolis; daughters, Phyllis Bailey and her husband Steve of Hutchinson, Mavis Gomez and her husband Dannie of Bloomington, and Ronda Larson of Minneapolis; four grandchildren; brothers, Carl of Gaylord, Alfred and his wife Dorothy of Morgan; sisters, Alice Larson of Plymouth, Della Johns and her husband Norman of Glenwood, and Edna Lentz of Litchfield; nieces and nephews.
He was preceeded in death by one brother and two sisters.
He was born April 26, 1912 in Hamneda, Sweden to Hans and Alma (Svensson) Larson. His family came to the United States when he was one, settling in New Ulm where he attended country schools. He married Donna Knees April 26, 1939 ata the former Frieden's Church in New Ulm. They farmed for many years in Milford Township, retiring to New Ulm in 1975. The couple moved to Sleepy Eye in 1990, and to Minneapolis in 1997. He became a resident of the Mission Nursing Home this past July. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in New Ulm; served on the Milford Township board, and also the township school board.

Helen A. Bierbaum, 85, of New Ulm died Thursday, September. 9, 1999 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Firle Funeral Home of New Ulm is handling arrangements.
Survivors include nieces, Dr. Lois J. Karl and her husband J. Roy Black of Michigan, Eileen M. Welna and her husband Thomas of St. Paul; nephew, Thomas M. Karl of Denver, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph Bierbaum in 1977; sister, Ethel (Leary) Karl in 1990; and niece Mary J. Karl.
She was born July 29, 1914 in New Ulm to Raymond and Emma (Sturm) Leary. She graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic High School in 1932. On June 3, 1943 she married Adolph Bierbaum and they resided in New Ulm. She was employed as a secretary at the Eagle Roller Mill company in New Ulm. For 25 years she was employed by the State Employment Service office of New Ulm. Following her husband's death, she continued to work until retiring in 1981. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Turner Ladies, St. Monica's Society, and had been active with the food shelf.

Elsa Asmus, 97, of Gaylord died Friday, September 10, 1999 at Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 - 9 a.m. at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Hilmer Clarence Brekke, 85, of Springfield, died Friday at Springfield Medical Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Albion Lutheran Church in rural St. James with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield., and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife; daughter Marjorie and her husband Leonard Reddemann of Springfield; son Eugene and his wife Peggy of Blackduck; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Hilmer was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Gerhard and Arnold; sister Alice Hanson; a great-grandson and great-granddaughter in infancy. He was born Feb. 18, 1914 in Albion Township to Andrew and Annie (Nyhus) Brekke. He grew up in the Godahl area and attended District 73 school.
On Jan. 3, 1935 he married Evelyn Odegard at the Albion Lutheran Parsonage in St. James. The couple farmed in Godahl area until 1966, when they purchased the Spider Lake Resort in Grand Rapids. They retired to Sleepy Eye in 1976 and had been living in Springfield for the last 10 years. He was a member of the Albion Lutheran Church, and the Godahl Baseball Association. He was president of the Hanska Co-op for several years, served on the Albin Township board, and was a church trustee.

Melvin G. Luepke, 80, 715 S. German Street, died Saturday, September 11, 1999 at his home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. Monday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife; daughter Linda Wellmann of New Ulm and her special friend David R. Stolt of St. Peter; sons and daughters-in-law Larry and Donna Luepke, John and Lorna Luepke all of rural Courtland; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister Lorine Wiese of Woodbury; sisters and brothers-in-law Violet and Leonard Hansen of Morgan; Lucille and Sydney Johnson of Kensington; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Wallace A. and Delores Johnson of New Ulm, Sven and Vivian Nyman of Lake Placid, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Wilbert Luepke; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws.
He was born Oct. 22, 1918 in Courtland Township, Nicollet County to Herman and Frieda (Rautenberg) Luepke. On June 12, 1943 he married Mae Johnson at Clear Lake Lutheran Church in rural Gibbon. They farmed his family's farm in Courtland Township until retiring in 1987 when they moved to New Ulm. He and his wife lived at the Ridgeway on German apartments since 1998. He was a life-long member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Fellowship Hall (Parish Center) at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Elsa Asmus, 97, of Gaylord, died Friday at the Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-9 a.m. Monday at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord, and one hour prior to the services at the church .
She is survived by her daughter Lorraine Larson of Tofte; sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Ruth Asmus of rural Winthrop, Walter and Eunice Asmus of rural Winthrop; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband in 1960, and sister Alma Hahn.
Elsa Sophie Asmus was born July 27, 1902 in Dryden Township to Henry and Minna (Roepke) Sylvester. She attended the Immanuel Lutheran Elementary School in Gaylord. She married August Asmus on Sept. 6, 1923 in Illinois. After their marriage, they moved to Mayville, Wisconsin. In 1925, they moved back to Gaylord and farmed in Alfsborg Township. In 1962, she moved into Gaylord. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of the Ladies Aid and the Altar Guild. She had been a resident of the Gaylord Lakeview Home since 1986.
