Virgil R. Peterson, 74, of Redwood Falls, died Saturday, July 31, 1999 at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home and will continue on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until service time.
He is survived by his wife, Betty sons, Lowell and wife LeAnn of Redwood Falls and Steven and wife Stephanie of Mound three grandchildren a brother, Wilton and wife Ethel of Shakopee, and sisters, Elaine Stromvall of Plymouth and Joan Kladifko and husband George of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born Sept. 24, 1924 in Meeker County, the son of Robert and Hulda (Jordin) Peterson. He resided with his family in Meeker County, attending Litchfield High School and graduating in 1942.
He married Betty Lenhard on Oct. 14, 1950 in Litchfield They resided in Litchfield until 1969 when they moved to Redwood Falls. Virgil was in implement and automotive parts sales and owned the NAPA Auto Parts in Redwood Falls until retirement in 1983. He did antique and wicker restoration until 1998.
He served during WWII in the Army, serving in the Pacific and Japan. He was past Commander of the Litchfield VFW and a member of the Redwood Falls American Legion. He was a past member of the Redwood Falls Lions and Eagles.

Evelyn Stokes, 67, of Madelia, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at her home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Madelia, with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today with a Rosary recited at 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia. Visitation continues Tuesday at the funeral home from 9 to 10:15 a.m.
Survivors include her husband John a son, Allen and and his wife Pam of LaSalle three grandchildren, Jennifer, Robert, and Nichole all of La Salle sisters and their husbands, Clarabelle and Lowell (Bud) Erickson of Washaugal, Wash., Nina and Donald Faber of Trimont, Judy and Jim Conners of Marietta, Ga., Jane and Oscar (Bud) Knaak of Lewisville and Linda and Roger Geistfeld of Truman brothers and their wives, John and Birdella Allen of Trimont and Wilber and Grace Allen of Fridley and a sister-in-law Vivian Allen of Spencer, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Darleen Allen, and a brother Donald.
She was born June 23, 1932 to Vernon and Clara (Sherman) Allen on the family farm in Fox Lake Township, Martin County.
Evelyn grow up in Martin County and graduated from Trimont High School in 1950. She attended Naeve Nursing School in Albert Lea, graduating in 1951. She married John Stokes on April 25, 1953 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Madelia. They farmed in Blue Earth County until 1959 when they moved to Madelia. She worked as managing cook at St. Mary's Catholic Church for 39 years and also did catering in later years. She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ladies Aid and Madelia Catholic Council of Women. She was a member and past president of the Southern Minnesota Cooks Association.

Elvira Schulke, 82, of Early, Iowa, died July 27, 1999, of injuries received in a car accident near Storm Lake.
Services were held Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, Early, Iowa. Arrangements were handled by Farber and Otteman Funeral Homes.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Mardene of Wayzata; grandchildren, Drew and Sarah of Austin Texas, Tara and David Tessmer of Peoria, Ariz.; sister, Orinda Dalueg of New Ulm; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband, Harry; son, Gerald; and sisters Helen Plagge and Glorena Rolloff.
She was born Sept. 16, 1916, in Sibley County, Arlington. She married Harry M. Schulke on Jan. 10, 1939, in Brookings, S.D. They farmed in the Hanover area. In 1973, they retired and moved to Early, Iowa. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Ladies Society.

Rev. Darold Lehman, 69, of Springfield died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999 at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester.
A concelebrated Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield, with Bishop Raymond A. Lucker the main celebrant. Burial will be in the St. George Cemetery, West Newton Township, Nicollet County.
Visitation is 3 p.m. Thursday until the time of service Friday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. There will be a 7 p.m. prayer service Thursday and a 7:30 a.m. morning prayer service on Friday, both at the church. St. Raphael's men will pray the rosary at 10 .am. Friday at the church.
Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield is handling arrangements.
He is survived by his sister, Marilyn Lang of New Ulm; nephew, Jeffrey and wife Vicki Lang and their children Jonathon, Jeremy, and Jason of Melrose; nieces, Trudy and husband Rick Blanshan and daughter Katy of Osakis; Terri and husband Jim Eayrs of Mankato; Mary and husband Wade Lastine and their children Amber, Michael and Matthew of New Ulm; and colleague in ministry, Mary Polta of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, Floyd Lang in 1993 and several aunts and uncles.
He was born Nov. 14,1929 in New Ulm to Reinhold and Elenora (Steppel) Lehman. He grew up in New Ulm and attended Holy Trinity and New Ulm Public Schools. Following graduation from Our Lady of the Ozarks Seminary in Carthage, Mo. he attended St. Mary's College in Winona for one year before moving to the St. Paul Seminary.
He and the Rev. Germain Rademacher were the first two priests ordained in the Diocese of New Ulm in Holy Trinity Cathedral on Feb. 23, 1958. He celebrated his first mass at his home parish of Holy Trinity in New Ulm. In May 1958 he received his first assignment to St. Mary's Parish in Sleepy Eye, where he was an assistant pastor and also taught at St. Mary's High School. In 1960 he moved to Holy Redeemer parish in Marshall where his primary responsibility was high school chaplain. In 1960 he was assigned to St. Anastasia Parish in Hutchinson and St. Columban parish in Greenleaf. His first pastorate was in 1961 to St. Anthony parish in Regal and St. Patrick parish in Kandyohi. In 1962 he founded the church and was appointed the first pastor of Our Lady of the Lakes parish in Spicer/New London, as well as continuing as pastor at St. Anthony. The parish in Spicer was the first church in the diocese to be granted permission for Saturday evening masses. In late August of 1969 he was assigned as pastor to Holy Rosary parish in Graceville and St Barnabas parish in Barry. In 1975 he served as pastor at St. George parish in West Newton Township and Visitation parish in Swan Lake. Later he became pastor of St. Gregory parish in Lafayette. While remaining as pastor of St. George and St. Gregory, he became director of the Office of Continuing Education of Priests in 1979 until his move to Holy Redeemer parish in Marshall in January of 1981. He was assigned as pastor at St. Raphael parish in Springfield in 1989 where he served until his death, and he also served as the superintendent of St. Raphael's School.
Memorials are preferred to the Father Darold Lehman Fund for priestly and church vocations in the New Ulm Diocese.

Eunice Bethke, 79, of Arlington, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at Arlington Municipal Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Arlington, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Fenske Funeral Home, Arlington, and continues one hour before services Thursday at the church.
She is survived by husband, Lloyd Bethke of Arlington; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Marian Bethke of Webster, Iowa; seven grandchildren; brother, Robert Renneke of Shakopee; sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth Cottone of New York City, and Amy and George Coury of Torrence, Calif.
She was born Aug. 9, 1919 in Sibley Township, rural Gaylord, to Henry and Mathilda (Pioske) Renneke. She served in the Army Air Corps for three years. She married Lloyd Bethke on Sept. 5, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sibley Township. They farmed for 50 years and then moved to Arlington in May 1998. She was active in teaching at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and also in other church activities.

Arvid Lange, 63, of Hector, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at Hutchinson Area Health Care.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Friday, at First Lutheran Church in Hector with burial in the City Cemetery.
Visitation is Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Lange of Hector; children: Keith and his wife, Lynn Lange of Hutchinson, Ronny and his wife Bobbi Lange of Hector, and Randy and his wife Shelly Lange of Stewart; grandchildren: Nicole Lange, Drew Lange, Kacie Lange, and Tate Lange; sisters: Ruth and her husband Robert Allen of Hector, and Barb and her husband Chris Johnson of Hector, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson Brett Lange, and his brother Kenneth Lange
He was born June 16, 1936, in Olivia, to Roy and LuVerne (Koelln) Lange. He grew up in the Hector area, and attended District 100 school. He married Dorothy Joan Hicks on Sept. 7, 1957, at First Methodist Church in Litchfield, They made their home in Melville Township near Hector. He farmed, drove truck for Ace Ready Mix, and also worked at the Hector Drain Tile Company. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Hector.

John D. Mueller, 72 of 11 S. Payne, New Ulm died Tuesday, Aug. 3. 1999 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today and 7:30-11 a.m. Friday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanore of New Ulm; son, John and his wife Ellen Mueller of Austin; stepdaughter, Linda Gruber of Fairmont; stepson, Gregory and his wife Julie Gruber of Slayton; one grandson; two step-grandchildren; sister, Luella and her husband Howard Heller of New Ulm; sisters-in-law, Louise and her husband Austin Lockrem of Northfield, Marjorie and her husband Cordell Hanson of Duluth; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his first wife in 1977.
He was born Oct. 29, 1926, in New Ulm to John and Ida (Hogan) Mueller, Jr. He attended New Ulm public schools. After graduating from New Ulm High School in 1945, he worked with his father in the carpentry business. He married Irene Staffen in June 1947 in New Ulm. They lived in New Ulm where he worked for the City Water Department as a operational chief for 31 years. Irene died in 1977. He married Eleanore (Ruff) Gruber on May 20, 1978, in New Ulm. He received a 25-year service award by the city and was recognized by the Public Utilities Commission resolution when he retired in 1991. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm. He played with the former Pioneer Band which later became the Municipal Band until 1976, and also with the former Greenhouse Band.

Lynette Hanson, 73, of Litchfield, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services are l:30 p.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield with burial at Ripley cemetery in Litchfield.
Visitation will be at the church today one hour prior to the service. Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield is handling arrangements.
She is survived by her husband Wayman of Litchfield; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Hugh Smith of Litchfield and Susan and Dennis Penkert of New Ulm; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Kathleen; her parents; and brother, Kirk Lindner.
She was born Oct. 4, 1925, in Toledo, Ohio, to Melvin and Anne (Bieglow) Lindner. She grew up in Toledo and graduated from Scott High School in 1943. On Sept. 12, 1945 she married Wayman Hanson in Atwater. They lived in Litchfield She was active in various organizations including Jobs Daughters where she was a past Bethel 45 Guardian. She was also very active at Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for 18 years and sang in the church choir for 40 years.

Betsy 'Betty' Gaines, 89, of Morgan formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Aug. 3, 1999, at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye and continues one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Marion and Ray Bielen of Springfield; Clarice and Glenn Honsey of Dunseith, N.D., Annabelle and Donald Christiansen of Sleepy Eye, and Beverly and Tony Guza of Sleepy Eye; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Alma Larson of Red Lake Falls and Nelda Kezar of Stoughton, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ollie in 1958; husband, Spike in 1991; brothers, Martin, Sam and Alfred; and sisters, Susie, Minnie, Mabel and Esther.
She was born Oct. 16, 1909, in Gatzke to Mons and Anna Serene (Brekke) Troland. She grew up on a farm and attended school in Gatzke. She worked as a waitress in Thief River Falls. She married Aloysius "Ollie" Webskowski on Nov. 18, 1928, in Thief River Falls, where the couple made their home until moving to Sleepy Eye in 1948. She worked at the City Cafe in Sleepy Eye. Ollie died in 1958. She married Forrest "Spike" Gaines on Sept. 16, 1961 in Helena, Mont. They lived in Sleepy Eye, where they owned and operated the Sleepy Eye Motel. Spike died in 1991. She moved to Gil-Mor Manor in 1996. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye.

Merle Gaalswyk, 86, of rural St. James, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999 at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, St. James, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-9 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James, and continues one hour before services at the church.
