Clifford Herman Scharmer, 83, of Buffalo Lake, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999 at his home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Zion United Methodist Church, Buffalo Lake with burial in the Zion Evangelical Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m Sunday at the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jane of Buffalo Lake, and daughters and sons-in-law Judy and Ron Swartzell of Olathe, Kan., Jean and Keith Schultz of Dassel, Joyce and Ron Spruill of Olathe, Kan.; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters Mabel Sifferath of Buffalo Lake, and Violet Bloomquist of Nampa, Idaho; brothers, LeRoy and Elmer Scharmer of Buffalo Lake; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; one in infancy and Myrtle Flemming, and by two brothers Ralph and Henry.
He was born on March 13, 1916 in Grafton Township, Sibley County the son of Herman and Helen (Mueller) Scharmer. He attended country school and school in Buffalo Lake through the eighth grade when he quit to work on the family farm. He was drafted into the military in 1941. He served active duty for four years. He was part of Company D, 184th Infantry, 7th Division fighting in the South Pacific and was one of only five in his company of 200 to return home. He married Mary Jane Evert Dec. 18, 1945. He worked as a mechanic in Buffalo Lake for several years. He bought the family store called Scharmer Hardware Store in Buffalo Lake. During this time he went to school to become a master plumber. He later established Cliff Scharmer Plumbing and Heating which he owned and operated for 45 years. He was been a member of Zion United Methodist Church since 1988.

Victor J. "Vic" Harmening, 84, of 1117 5th North Street in New Ulm died Thursday, August 26, 1999 at his home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor "Sis" Harmening of New Ulm; daughter Bonnie Reim of St. Paul, daughter and son-in-law Vicki and James Pearson of New Ulm; eight grandchildren ; six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Victor Reim Jr., brothers Alwin Harmening and Woodrow Harmening; sisters Christina Apitz and Emma Apitz.
He was born July 15, 1915 in New Ulm to Alwin and Bertha (Rautenberg) Harmening. He graduated from New Ulm Public High School and then served with the United States Army during WWII with a tour in the Pacific Theater. He married Eleanor Steinhaus Jan. 17, 1940 in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in New Ulm where he worked at various places such as the Wearwell Garment Factory, Pat's Cleaners, Zischka-Hamman (Z & H) Bar, and then the New Ulm Manufacturing Company which later became Ray-Go and now is known as Caterpiller. He retired in the late 1970's. He was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm and the New Ulm Country Club. Memorial are preferred to the donor's choice.

Iona A. Donner, 87, of Belview died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at the Parkview Home in Belview.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Rock Dell Lutheran Church in rural Belview with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held 2-5 p.m. today at Rock Dell Lutheran Church and will continue on Monday one hour prior to services.
Kulow Funeral Service of Echo is handling arrangements.
She is survived by one son Dale and wife Char Donner of Belview; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Diane Donner and son-in-law, Merle Rosaasen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters Martha (Toots) Rosaasen and Linnae Larsen, and two sons, Gary and Ardell, and son-in-law, James Larsen.
She was born Dec. 5, 1911 to George and Martha (Bakke) Sampson in Swedes Forest Township, Redwood County. She was baptized at home on Jan. 14, 1912 by visiting pastor Carl Doving. She was confirmed in June 1926 at Rock Dell Lutheran Church. She attended District 10 school in Swedes Forest Township for grades 1-5. After Iona's mother died in 1921, she moved into town and lived with her mother's brother and sister. She attended school in Belview from 1924-1931. She also attended one year at Bethany College in Mankato.
She married William Gunder Donner at the Rock Dell Lutheran parsonage with Pastor Christ Anderson officiating. The couple moved to the farm in 1934, where they lived and farmed until moving into Belview in February 1971. From 1965-1975, she worked at Parkview Home in Belview. She was a member of Rock Dell Lutheran Church, Rock Dell Ladies Aid, Rolling Prairie Senior Citizen's and the Parkview Home Auxiliary.

Clifford H. Scharmer, age 83, of Buffalo Lake, passed away Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at his home.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Zion United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake, with burial in the Zion Evangelical Cemetery.

Clifford was drafted into the armed services on June 21, 1941, With the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December, he served in active duty for the next four years. He was part of Company D, 184th infantry, 7th Division fighting in the South Pacific and was one of only five in his company of 200 to return home.
He married Mary Jane Evert on Dec. 18, 1945. Using the skills he learned in the service, he worked as a mechanic in Buffalo Lake for several years. When his father became ill he bought and ran the Scharmer Hardware Store in Buffalo Lake. During this time he went to school to become a master plumber. He later established Cliff Scharmer Plumbing and Heating which he owned and operated for 45 years. He loved traveling, and with his wife, and often his daughters, visited all 50 states and several European countries.

Gertrude L. Liebl, 90, of Sleepy Eye, formerly of Fairfax, died Saturday Aug. 28, 1999 at the Divine Providence Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Fairfax with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at Hauser-Hantge Chapel in Fairfax and one hour prior to the service at the church.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at Hauser-Hantge.
She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne Lommen and her husband Paul of North Branch, Judy Stafslien of LaCrosse, Wis.; two grandsons; and sisters, Angela Homan of Sleepy Eye and Dorothy Beck of Mapleton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edward; brothers and sisters Joe Schweiss, William Schweiss, Mary Kortz, Henry Schweiss, John Schweiss, Ben Schweiss, Alex Schweiss, and Rose Blumhoefer.
She was born June 2, 1909, in Fairfax to George and Mary (Wendinger) Schweiss. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in her faith as a youth at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. She attended country school in Martinsberg Township and also St. Andrews Catholic School.
She married Edward J. Liebl, April 27, 1936, at St. Andrews Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Andrews Christian Mother's Society and St. Anne's Society.

Urban Reiff, 80, of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999 at Sleepy Eye.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Cath-olic Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Fairfax.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7 p.m., both at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye on Tuesday.
He is survived by his sister Laurina Reiff of Chanhassen; a sister-in-law Ruth Reiff of Sleepy Eye and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Garrahy, Christine and Helen Gerardy, Mathilda Graml and Irene Reiff; and brothers, Charles, David and Arthur Reiff.
He was born Aug. 13, 1919, in New Ulm to Mathias and Susan (May) Reiff. He graduated from St. Andrew's Catholic Grade School in Fairfax and Breckenridge High School in Kent.
He operated a hardware store in Kent then moved to Colorado where he was an electronic instrument repairman at a music company and also did radio and television repair. He retired to Sleepy Eye in the early 1970's.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye.

Anna Mary Hanson, 90, of Madison, died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999, at the Madison Lutheran Home.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Garfield Lutheran Church of rural Madison with burial in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her children, Roger and Shelby Hanson of rural Madison, and Marlys and James Zetah of New Ulm; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Rudolph; sisters, Hannah in infancy, Laura and Sophie Welberg and Judith Engebretson; and two brothers Joseph and Harry Haugen.
She was born June 5, 1909, to Halvor and Johanna (Grove) Haugen in Freeland Township, Lac qui Parle County. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Garfield Lutheran Church. She attended rural school near her parents farm.
She married Rudolph Hanson in the Madison Lutheran Church parsonage. After marriage the couple farmed in Garfield Township until Rudolph's death in 1976. She has made her home at Madison Lutheran Home the past few years.
She was active in the Garfield Lutheran Church, and the Garfield Homemakers Club.

Leona Kuelbs, 95, of New Ulm, died Sunday, Aug. 29,1999, at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Christ in New Ulm with burial to follow in the City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by her son, Gardell Kuelbs and his wife LaVonne of New Ulm; daughter, Mary Ann Broich and her husband James of Sleepy Eye; five grandchildren, Jeanne Wass and husband David of Essig, Robert Broich and wife Annette of Plymouth; Bruce Kuelbs of Sleepy Eye, Julie Smith and husband Russell of Jenks, Okla., Gary Kuelbs and wife Heidi of Sleepy Eye; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Leo Brand and his wife Vera of Faribault; sister-in-law, Evelyn Kuelbs of Sleepy Eye; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Edward, Harry, Ben, Ted, and Joseph Brand; and sisters, Margaret Brunner, and Regina Beckett.
She was born April 12, 1904, in Fairfax to Anton and Emma (Ranweiler) Brand. The family lived in the New Ulm area where she attended country school, and also lived for a time in the Sleepy Eye area. She married Einar Kuelbs on Nov. 4, 1925, in New Ulm. They farmed in Home Township, Brown County, for many years, before retiring to New Ulm in 1957. Her husband died in 1982. She became a resident of Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm in March of 1998. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in New Ulm, and its ladies aid.

Martha (Esser) Fields, 79, of Edina died Aug. 29, 1999 at the N.C. Little Hospice in Edina.
Mass of Christian burial is 5 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Grace Church, 50th and Eden Ave, Edina. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be Thursday from 3-5 p.m. at the church. Arrangements by Gill Brothers Funeral Home.
She is survived by her husband, W. Brooks Fields of Edina; children: Millie Schipper and her husband Don, Sarah Nessan and her husband Doug of Edina, Brooks Fields and his wife Barbara of Mesa, Ariz., and Rick and his wife Cheryl Fields; 13 grandchildren; sister, Loretta Franta and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Emma Esser; five brothers and one sister.
She was born in New Ulm, attended New Ulm High School, the College of Saint Catherine and graduated from Carleton College. She served on the Big Sister and Family Children's Board as a member of the League of Catholic Women and was active in church and civic activities. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace and resident of Edina for 50 years.
Memorial are preferred to Brooks and Martha Fields Minnesota Scholarship at Gonzaga University, which she co-founded in 1977, c/o Gonzaga University, Spokane, Wash. 99258.
