Otto Pregler, 81, of New Ulm died Sunday, May 30, 1999 at Oak Hills Living Center.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday and continues 7:30-11 a.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, New Ulm.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home with burial in the Soldiers Rest section of the City Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by New Ulm veterans organizations.
He is survived by his sister, Bernice Tronson of Tacoma, Wash.; brother and sister-in-law, Ellsworth "Jim" and Elaine Pregler of New Ulm; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Stanley, Harold, Charles and Donald Pregler.
He was born on July 8, 1917 in New Ulm to Otto, Sr. and Frances (Dombroski) Pregler. He served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 2, 1940 to Sept. 29, 1945 in Alaska, France, Belgium and Germany. He worked for the City of New Ulm for six years for the gas department. He then worked for International Multifoods in New Ulm for 28 years in feed production. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion Post 132 in New Ulm.

Michael E. Maxfield, 52 of Judson died Sunday, May 30, 1999 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at the Klein Funeral Home in St. Peter.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Thursday and continues three hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
He is survived by wife DeDe of Judson; daughters and sons-in-law, Christine "Sis" and Gilbert Velasco of Cave Junction, Ore., Carey and Jesse McLean of Bloomington, Carly Janssen of Mankato, Leah Maxfield of Judson; sons and daughter-in-law, Casey and Brandy Janssen of Vallejo, Calif., Emmett and Aaron Maxfield, both of St. Peter; grandchildren, Xenia and Mateo Velasco of Cave Junction, Ore.; mother and father-in-law, Jenny and Jerry Hendrycks of New Sweden; brothers and sister-in-law Lee and Beth Maxfield of Cleveland, Tom Maxfield of Traverse; sisters Linda London, Nancy Ann Maxfield, Maureen Maxfield all of St. Peter; brothers-in-law, Paul Hendrycks of Mankato, Chuck and wife Marjean Hendrycks of New Sweden, Mike Hendrycks of Nicollet, Scott and wife Ruthie Hendrycks of Redding, Calif., Judd and wife Julie Hendrycks of Courtland; sister-in-law, Mitzi and husband Bill Arndt of Nicollet; nieces, nephews, other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Raymond and Chuck.
He was born June 15, 1946 in Los Angeles, Calif., to Raymond and Gloria (Johnson) Maxfield. He grew up in Los Angeles, moving to Mankato in 1952, and returning to California in 1960, where he graduated from Upland High School. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army. He worked at several glass companies while living in California. He married DeDe Hendrycks Aug. 10, 1990 at the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Norseland. He worked at Zeno Glassworks in Mankato before moving to St. Peter Glassworks in 1988. He was a member of Eagles Club 269 in Mankato.

Tom W. Halverson, 58, formerly of Lafayette died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. A private burial service will be held in the Clear Lake Methodist Cemetery in rural Lafayette.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home.
He is survived by his sisters, Carol Martens and her husband Robert of Nicollet, Ruth Gluth and her husband Warren of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brother Herbert Halverson and his wife Jean of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; aunt Ella Halverson of St. Peter; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was born June 14, 1940 in St. Peter to Theodore and Myrtle (Olson) Halverson. He attended grade school in Lafayette and graduated from New Ulm Public High School. He lived in Lafayette until the early '70s when he moved to Meeker County where he lived with his parents on Lake Jennie. He had worked at the Mankato Rehabilitation Center Incorporated (MRCI) for 15 years. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Lafayette.
The family prefers memorials to the wildlife sanctuary at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.

Frank Schroepfer, 81 of New Ulm died Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Services are 12:30 p.m. Friday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery, New Ulm.
Visitation is one hour prior to service Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1995.
He was born Nov. 22, 1917 in New Ulm to John and Anna (Schroepfer) Schroepfer. He attended school in New Ulm. He married Bessie Ristau on Oct. 21, 1942 in Hollendale. They lived in New Ulm where he worked for Miller Construction, Montgomery Ward, Heymann Construction and Herberger's department store until retiring in 1979. He became a resident of Oak Hills Living Center in February 1998. He was a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Margaret Schwartz, 82, of Mankato died Monday, May 31, 1999 at Nancy's Comfort Kare.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church in Mankato with burial in Woodland Hills Memorial Park.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 6 p.m.at Landkamer's Johnson-Boman Funeral Home and continues one hour before the service at the church.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Cathie and Wayne Frederick of McMinnville Ore.; brothers; Louis Kosak of Hudson, Wis; Richard and wife Arlene Kosak of Mankato; Eloy Kosak of Sleepy Eye; sisters, Agnes Feierer of St.Louis Park, Dorothy and husband Edwin Polesky of Sleepy Eye; one grandson and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
She was born March 3, 1917 at Graettinger, Iowa, to Louis and Elizabeth (Csukker) Kosak. She married Marvin Schwartz on June 8, 1936 at Fairfax. They lived in Fairfax and moved to Mankato in 1960. She was a homemaker and a member of St. John Catholic Church.

Walter H. Engel, 88, formerly of Franklin, died on Wednesday June 2, 1999 at Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services are 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Franklin with burial in Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and continues on Monday one hour prior to the services at the church.
Memorials are preferred to the Diabetes Foundation
He is survived by his daughter and her husband Phyliss and Walt Schierioth of Overland Park, Kansas; brother, Lester and his wife Alice Engel of Blue Earth; and granddaughter, Kathryn.
He was preceded in death by his wife Genevieve in January 1993; and his sister Florence.
He was born on July 10, 1910 in Sherman Township, Redwood County, to Herman and Clara (Hopp) Engel. He grew up and received his education in the Morgan area. He graduated from Morgan High School in 1931 and the University of Minnesota in 1935 with a BBA degree. On Sept. 1, 1936 he married Genevieve Wooldrik at St. John's Lutheran parsonage in Morgan. They lived in Menominee, Wis., until 1939 when they moved to Marshall. In 1943 they moved to Sleepy Eye where they lived until moving to Franklin in 1957. He worked as a district manager for Allis-Chalmers until Dec. 31, 1964. He also worked for the Minnesota Department of Revenue from 1967 until 1975. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 until 1946. He was a lifetime member of the Franklin American Legion , Morgan VFW and New Ulm DAV. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Franklin where he was active in several activities and committees.

Ordella G. Gitter, 86 of Winthrop died Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and continues 7:30-8:30 a.m. at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop; and one hour before services Saturday at the church.
She is survived by her stepdaughters and their spouses, Dolores and Otto Lamecker of Lake Lillian, Phyllis and Willard Portner of Klossner, Mary Ann Wendinger of Sleepy Eye, Arlene and Arnold Berdan of Winthrop; step-son and his wife Phillip and JoAnn Gitter of Gibbon; 44 step-grandchildren; 95 stepgreat-grandchildren and one step-great-great grandchild; sister, Victoria of Eau Claire Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husbands Arvid on April 29, 1973; Joseph Gitter on Feb. 1, 1989; brother, Eugene Malm; sisters, Iona Lillegaard, Hannah Hayne; and stepdaughter, Joan Fischer.
She was born Aug. 3, 1912, in rural Gibbon to August and Agnes (Peterson) Malm. She graduated from Braham High School. She married Arvid Carlson on Dec. 25, 1936 at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop. The couple farmed and held various employment during their married lives. She married Joseph Gitter on Dec. 4, 1976 at the Church of St. Willibrod in Gibbon. The couple resided in Winthrop. She later moved into Sibley Estates Apartments in Winthrop. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Winthrop, where she was active in the WELCA group. She was a charter member of the Winthrop Senior Citizens group.

Gladys Hage, 98, of Winona and formerly of Madelia, died on March 9, 1999 at St. Anne Hospice in Winona.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Madelia with burial in the Riverside Cemetery.
Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia handled local arrangements.
She is survived by son, Carl of Montrose, Colo.; daughter, Janice Rundquist of Rapid City, SD; five grandchildren; sister and her husband Mary and Allen Symonds of Evanston, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986.
She was born June 8, 1900 in Duluth to Frank and Mary (Reagan) Brewer. She grew up in Albert Lea and graduated from high school there. She graduated from Carelton College in Northfield in 1922. She worked at the Minneapolis Public Library . She married Carl Siver Hage in 1924. They lived in Madelia. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Sorosis Club and the Order of Eastern Star.

Henry 'Heini' Schroeder, 90, died June 3, 1999, at worthington Regional hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fulda with burial in St Gabriel's Cemetery in Fulda.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are handled by Totzke Funeral Home.
Survivors include daughters and their spouses: JoAnn and Lawrence Goshey of Crosby, Renee and Gordon 0smonson of Sleepy Eye; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Edwin Kruger of Lakewood, Calif. and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife, Vi and a great-granddaughter, Roxane; sisters, Lena Rousso, Margaret Schneidecker, Mary Morrison, Millis Lehnhoff and Louise Breit; and brothers August, John, Elmer and Stanley Schroeder.
He was born on Nov. 29, 1908 on a farm in Bloom Township, Murray County, Minn., to Henry and Anna (Phingsten) Schroeder. He grew up in Fulda where he attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and graduated from Fulda High School. He married Viola Fitzpatrick on Jan. 3, 1931 at Avoca. He worked as a self-employed feed salesman. After his wife's death in August 1994, he moved into the Centennial Apartments. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served on the Stewardship Board. He served on the Fulda City Council and as treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce.

Rev. Emil E. Geistfeld, 84, died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, during open heart surgery.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Mankato, with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Truman.
Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services Monday at the church.
He is survived by his wife Carmen; sons and daughters-in-law, Vinton and Claire of Mountain Iron, Thomas and Theresa of Prescott, Wisc., Theodore and Judith of Lewisville and Luther and Nancy of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Joel Hansen of Newark, Del. and Faith and Scott Bergemann of Northfield; step-daughters, Georgann Hiller and husband David of Apple Valley, Gail Armstrong of Gaylord, and Nancy Cloeter and husband Rev. Paul of Sauk Rapids; 23 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law Victor and Viola of Truman; nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, five brothers and three sisters.
He was born Dec. 16, 1914 in South Branch Township south of Lewisville, to Ernst H. and Louise (Lichhardt) Geistfeld. He attended parochial school at St. John's Lutheran School, South Branch Township. He attended Concordia College in St. Paul for four years of high school and two years of college, graduating in 1937. He entered Concordia Seminary, Springfield, Ill., in the fall of 1937, graduating in 1941. He was ordained Nov. 15, 1942, in Danbury, Conn. He married Viola A. Wolter on Aug. 24, 1941 in Northrop. Viola died March 22, 1980 in Rochester. He married Carmen A. (Kroehler) Wiedenheft on Aug. 29, 1981 in Good Thunder.
During his years of ministry he served at Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church, Racine; Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lewiston; Grace Lutheran Church, Escondido, Calif.; St. John's Lutheran Church, Atwater; St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Winona; St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Vernon Center; St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Ceylon; and Zion Lutheran Church, Lewisville. He served as visitation pastor for Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Mankato, for a number of years.

Clarence E. Kottke, 88 of Gaylord, formerly of New Auburn and Winthrop, died Wednesday June 2, 1999 at the Gaylord Lakeview Home in Gaylord.
Private funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Gaylord Lakeview Home chapel with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Monday at the Gaylord Lakeview Home chapel.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Germaine "Geri" and Sam Shult of Winthrop, and Lottie Ann and Harlow Schultz of New Auburn; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Arlette Kottke of Glencoe; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by his wife Della in 1992; brothers Roland, Herbert, Wilbert and Lester Kottke.
He was born May 2, 1911 in Sumter, Penn Township, McLeod County, to Albert and Louise (Michaelis) Kottke. He married Della Schleeter in 1934 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. After their marriage he owned and operated the Kottke Nursery and Sodding company in New Auburn. He also worked as the head groundsman for the Schmidt Brewing company. He also did carpentery work in Minneapolis on several apartment construction projects.
