Clarence L. "Mickey" Wendt, 82, of 1406 Heinenhill in New Ulm died Thursday, May 13, 1999 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.
Services will be 11a.m. Tuesday at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial 2 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Springfield.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to the tservice at the church.
He is survived by wife Jane of New Ulm; daughters and son-in-law, Susan Manoogian of Tacoma, Wash., Linda and Robert Travis of Prairie Du Chein, Wis., Sara Moldenhauer of LaCrosse, Wis.; sons and daughters-in-law, Philip and Sandy Wendt of Stillwater, Roger and Dianne Wendt of Phoenix, Ariz., Peter and Pamela Wendt of Mankato; fourteen grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Harold Wendt of Springfield, Ervin Wendt of Yuma, Ariz. He was preceded in death by brothers, Aaron, Albert, and Henry Wendt; sisters, Leona Haseleu and Anna Cunningham; sons-in-law, David Manoogian and Glenn Moldenhauer; and by granddaughter, Anne Moldenhauer.
He was born March 6, 1917 in Burnstown Township, Brown County, to Henry and Anna (Lohrenz) Wendt. He attended District 43 Country School in Burnstown Township and graduated from the School of Agriculture at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul. On Aug. 18, 1939 he married Jane Warneke in Anoka and they farmed in Burnstown Township until 1943, when they then moved to a farm near Sleepy Eye. He retired in 1983, moving to New Ulm. He was a past member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. He was a current member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, where he was a past member of the Stewardship Committee. He was a past board member of the Farm Bureau, the Farmers Elevator, and the Brown County Soil and Water Conservation in Sleepy Eye. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church or to the donors choice.

LeRoy "Jones" Erickson, 86, of 1404 South German in New Ulm died Thursday, May 13, 1999 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30 a.m. to the time of service at the funeral home on Monday.
He is survived by his wife, Alice of New Ulm; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Bob Schirlinger of New Ulm; son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Dotty Erickson of Renton, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Walter (Bud) Anderson of Hanska; step-daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Pete Helget of New Ulm; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Pam Wacker of Port Townsend, Wash., Charles and Donna Wacker of New Ulm, Allan and Kathy Wacker of Rapid City, South Dakota; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by first wife, Olive Erickson; daughters, Beverly Hovden and Synthia
Deschamps; son, Michael Erickson; grandson, Kevin Hovden in infancy; granddaughter, Sherry Lastine in infancy; four brothers and two sisters.
He was born on April 1, 1913 in Linden Township, Brown County to Nels and Gurina (Thordson) Erickson. He attended the Hanska Country School. He married Olive Hanson on March 14, 1939. They farmed in Linden Township, Brown County and he later moved to New Ulm and continued to work for Heymann Construction in New Ulm. He married Alice Wacker on January 14, 1972 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Albert Gag, 88, formerly of 809 5th North Street in New Ulm, died Saturday May 15, 1999 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and will continue from 7:30 -10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in NewUlm. St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. and there will be a Parish Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. both Monday evening at the funeral home.
Albert is survived by his wife, Elvira "Vera" of the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye; daughters and son-in-law, Donna and Marvin Roiger of Springfield, Beverly Schaefer of Martinez, California; son, Lloyd Gag of Calistoga, Calif.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard Gag of Rochester.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Alfred, Roman, Arthur, and Emil Gag; sisters, Rose Gag, Cecilia Nunn, and Marie Ubel; three grandchildren.
He was born May 29, 1910 in Sigel Township, Brown County to Adolph and Anna (Kloeckl) Gag. He attended Sigel Township Country School and Holy Trinity Catholic School in New Ulm.
He married Elvira Richter on June 21, 1932 at the Holy Trinity Church in New Ulm. They lived all their married lives in New Ulm. He worked for Eagle Roller Mill and later Schell's Brewing in New Ulm. He retired in the late 1970's. He has been a resident of Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye since 1998. He was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council and a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.

Violet Heckert, 89, of Comfrey, died Sunday,May 16, 1999 at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church, Stately Township,, Brown County, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at the Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey and one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Aquin and Polly of Faribault, Don and Richie of Kingman, Ariz., Jerry and Donna of Alexandria; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Bob Carlson of Comfrey; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Verdjel Elg of Comfrey; sister Roselyn Donner of Alexandria; and sisters-in-law, Joyce Elg of Comfrey, Dorothy Elg of St. James and Loretta Menkel of Mapleton.
She was preceded in death by husband Henry in 1967 and brothers Melvin, Clifford and Mildegard.
She was born Jan. 16, 1910, in Selma Township, Cottonwood County, to Henning and Emma (Peterson) Elg. She attended rural school. She married Henry Heckert on Nov.19, 1930 on the home farm in Selma Township. They lived in Stately Township until 1979 when she moved to Comfrey. She was employed at Tony Downs in St. James and as a nurse's aide at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield for 22 years. She was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church where she was involved with the Ladies Aid, choir, Sunday School teacher and superintendent. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Marjorie K. "Marge" McCarty, 92, of Sibley, Iowa, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services were held at United Church of Christ - Congregational Church in Sibley, with burial in Holman Township Cemetery
Survivors include daughters and their husbands, Virginia and Col. Richard Kuiper of Fairfax, Va., and Martha and Kenneth Pap of Sac City, Iowa; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Florence Van Valkenbirgh of Chicago, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers.
She was born May 11, 1906, in New Ulm to Frans and Caroline (Hilding) Krook. She was raised in New Ulm, graduating in 1924 from New Ulm High School. She attended Grinnell College as a music major.
She married Gaylord C. McCarty on June, 15, 1929, in New Ulm. The couple lived in Minneapolis until moving to Sibley in 1945.
She was a member of the Congregational Church and served as president of the Women's Fellowship. She was also a member of P.E.O.

Selma 'Sally' Klotz, 91, formerly of the Broadway Haus in New Ulm, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at New Ulm Medical Center.
Service is 11 a.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour before the service at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and Wallace Pechtel of Cape Coral, Florida; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Klotz in 1980; a daughter, Adeline (Ferren) Klotz; a son, Lloyd Klotz; six brothers; and five sisters.
She was born Dec. 23, 1907 in New Ulm to Edward and Ottelia (Krueger) Giese. She married Otto Klotz on May 19, 1925 in New Ulm. They lived on the farm in Milford Township, Brown County and operated a restaurant in Lafayette. They later moved to Mankato and lived there until Otto died in 1980. She then moved to Broadway Haus in New Ulm and lived there for about 10 years. She lived at the Sleepy Eye Care Center for the past few years. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Ethel Tester, 100 of Willmar, formerly of Gibbon, died on Tuesday, May 18, 1999 at the Bethesda Pleasant View Nursing Home in Willmar.
Memorial services are 11 a.m. Friday at Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon, with burial in the church cemetery.
Arrangements are handled by Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Fairfax.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilynn Murphy of Murdock; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death husband Albert "Bane" Tester in 1980; twin sister, Gunhild; sister Elizabeth; brothers, Wallace and Robert; and son-in-law Norbert Murphy.
She was born on March 26, 1899, to Peter and Mathilda (Landmark) Monson in Winthrop. She grew up in the Gibbon area and graduated from Gibbon High School. She attended American Business School in Minneapolis. On Aug. 15, 1921 she married Albert "Bane" Tester. The couple lived in Gibbon. She lived with her daughter for two years in Murdock before entering the Bethesda Pleasantview home in Willmar, in March 1997. She was a life long member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary. She served on the Sibley County nursing board.

Howard Brownfield, 81, of Redwood Falls formerly of Sweet Springs, Mo. died Wednesday May 19, 1999 at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday, at Church of Christ in Redwood Falls with burial on Monday, May 24 at Mount Zion Cemetery in Sweet Springs, Mo.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and will continue one hour before services Friday at the church.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jo of Redwood Falls; son and daughter-in-law Howard (Gene) and Janette of Redwood Falls; daughter and son-in-law Sharon Kathleen (Kay) and Charles Heatley of Dahlgren, Va.; two grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Keithley of Manhattan, Kan.; Berniece Arnett of Palm Springs, Fla.; Hellen Sullivan of Westwood, Kan. and Lula Casenelli with husband Jay of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and brother and sister-in-law Arnold and June Brownfield of Sedalia, Mo..
He was preceded in death by brothers, Lewis and Charles; and sister Mary Drenon and two sisters in infancy.
He was born Oct. 14, 1917, in Knob Noster, Mo., to Dennis and Jesse (Lane) Brownfield. He attended school in Green Ridge, Mo. He married May Jo Van Bibber on April 12, 1941, in Sedalia, Mo. They lived in Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army from July 1945 to November 1946. They moved to Morgan in 1991 and to Redwood Falls in 1993. He farmed for 44 years and worked for Coca Cola Bottling Company for 15 years. He retired in 1979. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Redwood Falls. He served as a deacon at Mt. Zion and Warsaw Christian churches.

Gwendolyn A. Schwartz, 84, of Santa Cruz, formerly of Madelia, died jan.. 25, 1999 at Driftwood Convalescent hospital in Santa Cruz.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Madelia United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
She is survived by a son Sidney of St. Paul; daughters, Laurel Herring of Chester, Penn. and Linda Schwartz of Aptos, Calif; brother Dixon Smith of Golden, Colo.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband Sidney in 1997; infant daughter Ellen Marie in 1938; son Stephen in 1992; brothers Thomas, Elwyn, Walter and Harold Smith.
She was born July 5, 1914 in Thief River Falls. After her mother died when Gwen was 10, she lived with an aunt and maternal grandmother. She graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1935 with a B.S. in education. She taught high school in Alden and elsewhere in Minnesota. She married Sidney F. Schwartz on June 20, 1936. They lived in Maynard, Madelia and Washington D.C. prior to moving to Albert Lea in September 1942. They moved to Santa Cruz in 1990. She was a long time member of the Methodist Church in Albert Lea and Live Oak Methodist Church in California.

Mabel Liebl, 90, of Dawson, died on Sunday May 16, 1999 at her daughter's home in Lakeville.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m., Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Dawson.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson and for one hour prior to the Mass at church.
She is survived by children and their spouses: Elaine and Swede Hammerschmidt of Redwood Falls; Leonard and Ione Liebl, Eugene and Pat Liebl, Aloys and Janet and Alice Schueller, all of Dawson and Mary and Ray Larson of Lakeville; daughter-in-law Ilene Willand of Dawson; foster son, Tom Felcyn of Fairbanks, Ark; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Gladys Johnson of Redwood Falls; sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Ralph Skow of Chisago City; 37 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Louie in 1965 ; a daughter and son in infancy; son Armin; son-in-law Adrian Schueller; two brothers and one sister in infancy; and brother and sister-in-law Arnold and Annie Johnson.
She was born June 13, 1908 to Peter and Minnie ( Anderson) Johnson in rural Springfield. She attended rural school . She married Louie Liebl at Lamberton on May 1, 1929. They farmed in the Springfield and Sanborn area until 1952, when they purchased a farm east of Dawson. She lived in Dawson from 1969 to 1997, when she moved to Lakeville.

Lucille Atkins, 99, of Redwood Falls, died Thursday, May 20, 1999 at Redwood Falls Hospital.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Redwood Falls, with burial in Holy Trinity Cemetery, New Ulm.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Nelson Funeral Services, Redwood Falls and will continue 8-9:45 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. There will be a parish prayer service 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
She is survived by sons, Tom of Detroit Lakes and John of Longmont, Colo.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and two sisters.
She was born May 19, 1900 in New Ulm to Herman and Lena (Schwerzler) Schleuder. She attended school in New Ulm, graduating from New Ulm High School in 1917. She attended nursing school at Battle Creek College in Battle Creek, Mich. She was employed for many years at the State Bond and Mortgage Company of New Ulm and later lived in Santa Barbara, Calif. She married Donald (Jeff) Atkins on August 7, 1948 in Fairfax. In 1949 they moved to Redwood Falls. Donald died on January 8, 1974. She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church. She belonged to the C.C.W. and Saint Theresa Mission Club. She helped with Cub Scouts for four years.
