Evelyn Braaten, 72, died Thursday, May 20, 1999 at home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Butterfield, with burial in the city cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James, and will continue at the church one hour prior to services.
She is survived by sons, Roger and wife Nancy of Butterfield and Terry and wife Joleen of St. James; six grandchildren; a sister Lorraine and husband Marlin Braaten of Butterfield; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Aasten and Agnes Braaten of Butterfield, Anna and Dale Ringen of Butterfield, Aaste Lindemann of Dassel, and Mabel and Burton Olson of Mountain Lake.
She was preceded in death by her husband Olaf.
She was born Nov. 28, 1926 in Butterfield Township, Watonwan County, to Erdman and Katherine (Sukau) Falk. She attended District 22 rural school in Butterfield Township, and later attended Butterfield Public Schools. She worked at Butterfield Produce. She married Olaf N. Braaten on Feb. 1, 1946 in Mountain Lake. The couple made their home on the Braaten family farm near Butterfield and she worked as cook for the Butterfield School District for a short time after her marriage. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and ELCW in Butterfield, the Swingin' Saints Square Dance Club in St. James, Friendship Ladies' Club, Bible Study Group and the Butterfield Threshing Bee Association.

Joseph Hacker, 91, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999 at Fort Meade Veterans Administration Center, Sturgis, S.D. He is a former resident of Lafayette.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, with burial to follow.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Campbell, Paula and Quinn Funeral Home, Rapid City, S.D.
He is survived by brothers, Roman and wife Evelyn of New Ulm and Clarence of St. George; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brother Alvin and sister Mary.

James Baler, 55, of 1615 N. Jefferson St., died Friday, May 21, 1999 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
Services will be noon Tuesday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm, with burial at New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm. A parish prayer service will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Gladys Zachow, 93 of Redwood Falls, died Saturday, May 22, 1999 at the Redwood Falls Hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls with burial in the Zion, Middle Creek Cemetery, Renville County.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.
She is survived by her children, Maxine J. Norris of Duluth, Dellis Schroeder of Danube and Kenneth Prodoehl and wife Phyllis of rural Renville; 11 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and five sisters.
Gladys Sophie Zachow was born March 18, 1906 in Henryville Township, Renville County, to Henry and Ida (Schroeder) Becker. At the age of 2-1/2 years she was adopted by Herman and Rickie (Prodoehl) Becker. She resided with her family in Henryville Township and received her education from Bechyn Country School. On Aug. 27, 1924 she married Charles August Zachow on the home farm in Henryville Township. They lived in Henryville Township until 1952 when they moved to rural Olivia. In 1964 they moved to Floodwood. Charles died in September 1971 and Gladys moved into Lakeside Manor in Redwood Falls in 1972. Gladys was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls and a former member of the EUB Middle Creek Church. She was very active in her church including U.M.W., Sunday School Teacher, circle, sang in church choir and sang in a trio over the Willmar Radio for many years.

James Baier, 55 of 1615 N. Jefferson St., New Ulm, died Friday, May 21, 1999, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Burial will follow at the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm. A parish prayer service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife Dolores of New Ulm; daughters, Jill Zupfer and her husband Rob of New Ulm, Sherry Bottenfleld of Albany, Ga.; sons, Gregory Baier and his wife Louise of Andover, Tony Baier of River Falls, Wis.; two grandchildren; his mother Estelle Baier of New Ulm; a brothe,r Darv Baier and his wife Jean of Bentonville, Ark.; a sister LaDonna Alfson of New Ulm; mother-In-law Grace Welke of New Ulm; brothers-in-law Roger Welke and his wife Monica of Madelia, and Jerry Welke of New Ulm; sisters-in-law Leatrice Ellanson and her husband Duane of New Ulm, Sharon Miller and her husband Jerry of Hanska, and Lonnie Weiseler and her husband Jim of Benson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded In death by his father.
James Raymond Baier was born Nov. 2, 1943 In New Ulm, the son of Anton and Estelle (Suess) Baier. He grew up in New Ulm and graduated from Cathedral High School In 1961. Soon after, he entered the United States Air Force. He married Dolores Welke on May 4, 1968 in Madelia. He worked for Kraft Foods In New Ulm from 1968 to 1980. That year, the couple moved to Albany, Ga. where he worked for the Miller Brewing Company until 1992. He then worked for the Keebler Co. In Atlanta until 1996. They moved to Woodbury later that year. He worked for Stroh's Brewery In St. Paul, until illness forced his retirement. The couple moved to New Ulm in December 1997. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, and the Izaak Walton League. Memorials are preferred to the Luekemia Society, American Cancer Society, or the Izaak Walton League.

Luverne C. Mittelstadt, 78 of Waseca died Friday, May 21,1999 at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca, with burialat Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
He is survived by sisters, Adeline Mittelstadt and Ruth Mittelstadt (who teaches in New Ulm), both of rural Waseca. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born in Otisco Township, Waseca County, on May 3, 1921to August and Clara (Helms) Mittelstadt. He attended rural Waseca County school. He entered the U.S. Army in 1946 and served until being discharged in 1947. Following his discharge be returned to Waseca and worked at Swift & Co. in Waseca and then the Otisco Creamery. He then farmed the home farm in Otisco Township, Waseca County for many years. He also drove the road grader for many years in Otisco Township. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Otisco, the Waseca VFW and Military Order of the Cooties and was a past member of the Waseca Eagles.

Leona "Onie" Miller, 72, of Sanborn, died Saturday, May 22, 1999 at her home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers with burial in St. John's Cemetery, Germantown Township, Cottonwood County.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by her children: Daniel and wife Deb Miller of Hastings, David and wife Lori Miller of Sanborn, and Patty and husband Gary Mude of Sanborn; 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dean in 1998, a brother Russell and twin sisters in infancy, Irene and Lucille.
She was born May 4, 1927 in Stately Township, Brown County to Albert and Esther (Becker) Thram. She grew up on the family farm in Germantown Township, Cottonwood County and attended country school.
On June 17, 1947, she married Dean E. Miller at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown Township. The couple made their home on a farm in rural Sanborn where they farmed for 49 years. They retired in 1996 and moved into Sanborn. Leona was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid.

Paul Domine, 86, of Farmington Hills, Mich., and formerly of the Morton/Lucan area, died Friday, May 21, 1999 at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls with burial at the Morton City Cemetery.
Visitation starts at noon Thursday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife Flossie of Farmington Hills, Michigan; children, Glenn Domine and wife Barbara of Sauk Centre, Rodger Domine of Sauk Centre, Donald Domine and wife Maryene of Alexandria, Patricia Lennard and husband Patrick of Farmington Hills, Mich., Robert Domine and wife Mary of Union Lake, Mich., and Deborah Hudson of Indiana; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister Emily Kaatz of New Ulm and 15 stepchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers William, Henry, Herman, Charles and Otto and sister Mathilda Domine
He was born on July 15, 1912 in Johnsonville, Minnesota to Karl and Hermine (Boltz) Domine. He grew up in Lucan. He married Grace Schablin in Morton in 1932. They lived most of their life in Detroit where he worked as a carpenter.

Alma Bonderson, 100, of Gaylord died Thursday, May 20, 1999 at Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Norwegian Grove Cemetery in rural Gaylord.
Visitation is 7:30-8:30 a.m. today at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord and one hour at the church before services.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Bonderson; brothers; Henry, Bennie and Selmer Wold; and sister: Isabelle Wold.
She was born Oct. 15, 1898 in Alfsborg Township, Sibley County to John and Agnes (Halvorson) Wold. She lived in Oregon for several years and also did domestic work in Minneapolis. On Aug. 29, 1942 she married Henry Bonderson at Norwegian Grove Lutheran Church in rural Gaylord. They farmed on the Bonderson homestead until 1965 when they moved into Gaylord. She became a resident of the Gaylord Lakeview Home in September of 1989. She was a member of the Ladies Aid, Gaylord Lakeview Home Auxiliary and the Friendship Club.

Ethel Knaak, 80, of rural Lewisville died Saturday, May 22, 1999 at Madelia Community Hospital
Services are 10:30 a.m Wednesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fieldon, rural Lewisville, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Olson Funeral Home in Truman and one hour prior to the church service on Wednesday.

Mark Walberg, 43, of Redwood Falls, died on Saturday, May 22, 1999 at VA Hospital in Minneapolis of cancer.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday St. Cornelia's Episcopal Church at the Lower Sioux with burial in Morton City Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the V.F.W., American Legion and National Guard units of Redwood Falls.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls.
He is survived by his wife Kay of Redwood Falls; son Jamie Sheldon of Annandale; mother Lavonne Higgins of South Haven; stepdaughters; Sue Maurer of Redwood Falls, Sheryl Spinler of Redwood Falls and Amy Zachariason and husband Chad of Redwood Falls; six grandchildren; brothers and sisters; Jim Higgins of South Haven, Michael Higgins of South Haven, Cheryl Grossinger of South Haven, Linda Tobin of Clearwater, Gail Kipka of St. Cloud, Mary Mortezacc of Monticello and Patricia Schmidt of Annandale; and 14 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Morgan Walberg, stepfather James Higgins and a brother Brian Higgins.
He was born on June 2, 1955 in Minneapolis to Morgan E. and Lavonne (Nelson) Walberg. He grew up in South Haven. He served in the United States Army from July 25, 1972 until March 13, 1974. He lived in South Haven until 1990 when he moved to Redwood Falls. He was a self-employed mechanic. On June 30, 1993 he married Kay Schlicht in Redwood Falls.

She is survived by her husband Erich; sons, Marlin of rural Madelia and special friend Keiko Johnson of Faribault, Darwin and wife Joan of rural Lewisville, Raymond and wife Karen of rural Lewisville, Dale and wife Beverly of rural Madelia, and Rodney and wife Wanda of Gainesville, Texas; daughters, Juanita Levine and husband Harold of Keister, and Marilyn Pierce and husband Robert of Eagle Lake; 14 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; four stepgreat-great-grandchildren; brother Melvin Baumgard and wife Dorothy of Vernon Center; sisters, Charlotte Linquist of St. James and Hattie Havemeier and husband Alvin of New Ulm; several nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
She was born Sept. 6, 1918 in Ceresco Township, Blue Earth County, to Charles and Martha (Poehler) Baumgard. She attended country school in Ceresco Township. She married Erich C. Knaak on Sept. 15, 1940 in Vernon Center. They farmed in Fieldon Township, rural Madelia, until 1974, when they moved to Pleasant Mound Township in Blue Earth County, where they continued to farm. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Fieldon, rural Lewisville, and served as both treasurer and secretary in the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Lewisville Legion Auxiliary Unit 561.
