Leander 'Ace' Schwab, 70, of 616 7th North St. in New Ulm and formerly of the St. George area died Tuesday, May 25, 1999 at his home.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Friday at St. George Catholic Church in St. George with burial in the church cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by New Ulm veterans organizations.
Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Thursday and continues from 7:30-10 a.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayers service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Schwab of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Lora and Bruce Rozeske of Owatonna, Lisa and Terry Kuck of Owatonna; sons and daughters-in-law Steven and Grace Schwab of Albert Lea, David and Cecelia Schwab of Grevenbroich, Germany, and Thomas Schwab of St. George; seven grandchildren; father-in-law, Herbert Tauer a resident of New Ulm; brothers and sister-in-law, Jerome Schwab of New Ulm, Francis and Esther Schwab of St. George; and a sister-in-law Rose Schwab of New Ulm.
He was preceded in death by mother-in-law, Oleta Tauer; brother, Raymond Schwab; and a sister-in-law Dolores Schwab.
He was born Aug. 21, 1928 in New Ulm to Frank and Mary (Smasal) Schwab. He attended grade school in St. George. He gradated from Holy Trinity Catholic School in New Ulm in 1946. He served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955. On October 18, 1955 he married Mary Ann Tauer at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. They farmed in the St. George area. In 1994 they moved to New Ulm. He was a member of St. George Catholic Church in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, where he was active in many church functions. He was a member of the Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post 132 in New Ulm, a past leader of the West Newton 4-H club, and a past member of the Knights of Columbus. He coached the St. George baseball team in the 1950s.

LeRoy E. Becke, 83, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999 at Burns Manor Nursing Home, Hutchinson.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, Winthrop, with burial in the city cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Saturday. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.
He is survived by his wife Hertha; daughters, Betty Huelskamp and husband Arnie of Winthrop and Eunice Guth and husband Jim of Kasota; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Erma Boelter of New Ulm and Dina Nagel of Morristown; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by a n infant daughter; son Duane in 1978; brother Lawrence; stepmother Rosie Becke; and stepbrother John Henry Rick.
He was born Aug. 8, 1915 in Transit Township, Sibley County, to Charles and Ida (Bublitz) Becke. He attended country school. He married Hertha Illig on Dec. 12, 1937 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mountville, Dryden Township. They farmed in Transit Township. He also worked with Green Giant in Winthrop and LeSueur. In 1995, he retired from farming and moved into Winthrop. He did custom corn shelling for area farmers, owned a construction business that offered gravel and dirt hauling services and snow removal. He was a past member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township, where he served as a deacon. He was a current member of Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop, where he served on the church council.

Violet Firchau, 83, of St. James died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural St. James, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by sons, Eugene and wife Janice of Truman and Albert and wife Chun of Los Angeles; daughter Karen and husband Dennis Wacker of rural Butterfield; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Vera Kriesch of St. James and Anna Mae King of St. Louis Park; brothers, Rueben and wife Ona Kohn, Henry and wife Vernell Kohn, all of St. James; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson and twin sister Vylla Marsden.
She was born March 25, 1916 in St. James Township, Watonwan County, to Henry and Emma (Appel) Kohn. She married Albert Firchau on Jan. 15, 1938. She was raised in the Dakotas and moved back to the St. James area where she received her education. After her marriage, the couple lived in Mankato until 1941, when they purchased a farm in South Branch Township. They lived there until Albert's death in 1993, when she moved in with her daughter in rural Butterfield. She entered Pleasant View Center in May 1998. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in South Branch.

Nora McCarthy-Brewer, 71, formerly from New Ulm, died April 28, 1999 in Bellevue, Neb.
She is survived by her sons Ronald of Topeka, Kan.; Kevin and his wife Ann of Honolulu, Hawaii; daughters, Kathleen Brewer-Logan and her husband Dan of Bellevue, Neb. and Erin Brewer of Honolulu; stepchildren, Dr. Thomas Phillip Donnelly, Jr (USMC Ret.) and his wife Evelyn of Hot Springs Village, Ariz.; Margaret and her husband Stanley Freking of New Ulm; sisters in New York and Connecticut and by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Terrance and two husbands. Memorials are preferred to the family at 1803 East Childs Road, Bellevue, Neb. 68005.

Darrell Warne, 69 of Minneapolis died May 26, 1999, at his home.
Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. today at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5029 Zenith Ave. S., Minneapolis, with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour before the service at the church. Werness Brothers Funeral Chapel handled arrangements.
Memorials preferred to Christ the King Catholic School.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; mother-in-law, Mary Fromm; sons and daughter-in-law, Dan and Jean and son Brad; daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Ron Indeck, Mary Kay and Donald Kellet; Kathy and Paul Beckfeld; 18 grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Lois; sister, Iva Berberick; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death b brothers, Dayle and Harley and sister Myrna Barber. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a meat cutter. He lived in Morton, Redwood Falls, New Ulm and Sleepy Eye at various times between 1952-68.

Edna Wheeler, 84, of Redwood Falls died Wednesday, May 26, 1999 at Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls with burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation starts at noon at the church. Nelson Funeral service of Redwood Falls is handling arrangements.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Marlyce and Robert Becker of New London and Carol and Elmer Rieker of Rapid City, S.D; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother Floyd Stewig of Minneapolis; and sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Glenn VonMosch of Redwood Falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin in May 1983; brother, Benjamin Stewig; and sisters, Arlene Hauptli and Mildred Telford.
She was born Feb. 28, 1915 to Benjamin and Wilhelmina (Blieler) Stewig. She graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1933 with honors. She married Calvin Wheeler on May 13, 1934, in Redwood Falls. She was active in the New Avon Methodist Church. They lived in Sanborn, Clements, Gilfillan, Montevideo, Redwood Falls and Danube before returning to Redwood Falls in 1975. She was a member of the First United Methodist church and was involved with the Sunday school program, the church nursery and was a member of the Harmony class. She worked at Control Data.

Harriet Peterson, 84, of Madelia died Tuesday, May 25, 1999 at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Services are 1:30 p.m., Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia and one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Marlow; son, Wally of Mankato; son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Melanee of Eagan; daughter and son-in-law, Lucy and Jerry Goblirsch of Eagle Lake; daughter, Christine Peterson and fiance Bruce Broecker of St. Paul; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Ingvald and Margaret Annexstad; sister, Imogene Nelson, and sister and brother-in-law, Luella and Herb Monke all of St. Peter; and sister-in-law Renee Annexstad of New Ulm.
She was preceded in death by a brother and a daughter-in-law.
She was born Nov. 26, 1914 to Adolf and Mae (Lageson) Annexstad in Norseland. She attended Bethany school and graduated from St. Peter high school in 1937. She married Marlow Peterson on April 14, 1938 at Norseland. They lived in Bernadotte and in Madelia. She worked as a cook and baker for Etter's Cafe. She owned Harriet's Cafe from 1968- 77. She then worked for Etter's Country Inn until her retirement. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and was active in the ladies' group.

Steven J. Goldschmidt, 36, died Friday, May 28, 1999 in Sleepy Eye as a result of an automobile accident.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home, with a prayer service 7 p.m. Monday, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his wife Jamie; children, Ricki, Nikki and Jeremy; mother Elaine and husband Marvin Briggs of Faribault; mother-in-law Ramona Jones of Sleepy Eye; father-in-law William and wife Sharon Jones of Rochester; sisters, Shelly Rhode and husband Steve of Reeseville, Wis., and Sarah and husband Ken Donnelly of Salem, Oregon; brother Scott and wife Julie of San Marten, Calif.; sister-in-law Jeana Carlson and fiance Jerome Domeier of Sleepy Eye; brother-in-law Jon Jones of Rochester; and sister-in-law Julie Jones of Rochester.
He was preceded in death by his father James in 1979 and his grandparents.
He was born February 17, 1963 in Sleepy Eye to James and Elaine (Pelzel) Goldschmidt. He grew up and attended school in Sleepy Eye. He married Jamie Jones on May 18, 1984 in Sleepy Eye. He worked at Progressive Print and Sanitary Dairy, both in Sleepy Eye. He also worked at Bacon Master in Morgan for eight years and most recently worked as a press operator at Advertising Unlimited, Inc. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye.

Marie H. Tessmer, 80, died Friday, May 28, 1999, at Gaylord Lakeview Nursing Home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, New Auburn, with burial in High Island Cemetery, New Auburn.
Visitation will be 8:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, New Auburn. Arrangements are through The Fenske Family Funeral Home, Gaylord.
She is survived by daughter Janice and husband James Borchert of Gaylord; sons, Gerald and wife Judy of Gaylord and DuWayne and wife Barbara of Brownton; sisters, Esther Polzin of Winthrop and Hertha Gutknecht of Glencoe; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Milton in 1982; brothers, Edwin, Herbert, Albert, Wilbert and Vernon; and sisters, Elsie Grack and Clara Henke.
She was born June 22, 1918 in Penn Township, rural New Auburn, to William and Marie (Lindeman) Polzin. She attended eight years of rural country school. She married Milton Tessmer on October 6, 1937 in New Auburn. They farmed in Penn Township, McLeod County for many years. They moved to New Auburn after retiring. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid. She was a seasonal worker at Green Giant.

Bob Hewitt, 56 of Gaylord died Thursday, May 27 at his home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the United Methodist Church in Arlington with burial at Arlington Public Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Fenske Funeral Home in Arlington and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife Marie; sons and daughter-in-law Robbie and Jill of Lafayette; son Coy Charles of Arlington; daughter and son-in-law Una and Ray Risk of Gaylord; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leona of Cornelius, Ore.; Carl and Wilma of Alta Vista, Kan.; Hellen of Norwich, Kan; Jimmy and Marla of Council Grove, Kan; sisters and brother-in-law Beulah Arnett of Asotin, Wash., Carol and Bob Shetler of Emporia, Kan; six grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Jo Hewitt; brothers, Chris and Roy; brother-in-law Jim Arnett.
He was born March 27, 1943 in Council Grove, Kan., to C.C. and Retta (Ellis) Hewitt. He married Marie Lee April 6, 1963 in Council Grove, Kan. He worked in Council Bluffs, Iowa before moving to Minnesota and working with Minnesota Valley Forest Products in Courtland. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Council Grove.

Victor Buboltz, 84, of 1404 South German, New Ulm, died Thursday, May 27, 1999 at the New Ulm Medical Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Elta Buboltz of New Ulm; daughter Carol Gustafson of Palmer, Ak.; sons and daughters-in-law, Loren and Verita Buboltz of Kenya, East Africa, Glenn and Barbara Buboltz of New Ulm, Gordon and Mary Buboltz of Blue Springs, Mo., Norman and Dianna Buboltz of Anchorage, Ak., Lee and Lorie Buboltz of North Branch; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Adeline and Lester Briese of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Harry Buboltz and Edgar Buboltz; sister Ethel Borth.
He was born July 16, 1914 in Wellington Township, Renville County to Paul and Ella (Peterson) Buboltz. He married Elta Hermann on June 14, 1940 at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County. They farmed in Wellington Township, Renville County. In 1990 they moved to New Ulm. He was a member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Eugene F. Bode, 76 of Route 1, New Ulm died Friday, May 28, 1999 at his home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery, both in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 7:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Joyce and Kevin Gierach of Brownsville, Wis., Marcia and Steven Lapham of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Beth and Richard Walters of New Ulm, Brenda and Gary Jeffers of Peoria, Ariz.; son Steven Bode and his wife Carmen Grosse of Ralston Neb.; step-daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jack Kovala of Apple Valley; step sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley and Darla Lyndgaard of Waseca, Paul and Vickie Lyndgaard of LeSueur; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; eight step-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Verona Wuertz of Austin, Adelheid Biermann of Winthrop, Marie Burk of Belle Plaine, Eunice and Reuben Kroeger of New Ulm; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerhard and Dorothy Bode of Muskogee, Okla., Roland and Esther Bode of Saginaw, Mich.; sisters-in-law, Alice Bode of Gibbon, Adeline Bode of Brainerd; brother-in-law, Paul Moeller of Tipton, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorene (Dallmann) Bode in1987; his second wife, Lola (Lyndgaard) Bode in August,1998; grandson, Micah Lapham; brothers, John, Reinhold, Henry Bode; sisters, Frieda Panning, Irma Moeller; brothers-in-law, William Panning, Alvin Wuertz, Edward Biermann,and Cornelius Burk; sister-in-law, Edna Bode.
He was born Sept. 22, 1922 in Willow Creek to Henry and Maria (Friedrich) Bode. He attended Day Christian School in Willow Creek and graduated from Dr. Martin Luther High School in New Ulm. He married Lorene Dallmann on June 3, 1947 at Trinity Evangelic Lutheran Church in Nicollet. He was self-employed in Feed and Poultry Sales most of his life. He had been a custodian for St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and had the sextant for the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm for many years. He married Lola Lyndgaard on December 30, 1990 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. He was a past member of the Faith Lutheran Church in New Ulm and a present member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Wallace W. Adams, 86, died Friday, May 28, 1999 in Sleepy Eye.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Military rites will be provided by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
He is survived by nieces, Betty (Adams) Krenz of Sleepy Eye and Georgine (Cain) Ball of California; nephews, Jerry Adams of Hudson, Wis., John Adams of California, Bruce Adams of California, and Harold Cain of Montana.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Georgine, Zora and Lillian; and brothers, John, Stewart and Bruce.
He was born February 8, 1913 in Jeffers to Edward and Lucy (Terca) Adams. He moved with his family to Eden Township, Brown County, where he grew up and attended country school. He entered the United States Army in 1942 during World War II. During his military service he was awarded a Certificate of Merit, and received a Purple Heart. After being honorably discharged in 1945, he returned to Evan and farmed with his brother, Bruce, north of Evan for over 60 years.

Robert Helget, 51, died Friday, May 28, 1999 at his home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Morgan, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 8-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Nelson Funeral Home, Morgan. There will be a Catholic Aid Association Rosary 6:30 p.m. Monday and a parish scripture sharing service 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
He is survived by brothers and sisters, Betty Ott and husband Willie of Shakopee, Lorraine Helget of Redwood Falls, Theresa Hansen and husband Pete of Northfield, Vt., George Helget and wife Anita of Mound, and Alice Drew and husband Alfred of Crookston; nephews and nieces; and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother Frank and sister Mary Ann Thompson.
He was born May 12, 1948 in Springfield to Roland and Lucille (Petsinger) Helget. He grew up in Morgan and attended elementary school at St. Michael's Catholic School. He attended high school at Morgan Public School. In 1966 he entered the Navy and served for four years aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ranger during the Vietnam War. After serving he moved to Brandon and worked as a trucker for 25 years. He then went to work for Pillsbury for seven years and lived in Mound. He was a member of the VFW.
