Martha Penk, 86, of Stewart, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Glencoe Area Health Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stewart with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Hughes Funeral Home in Stewart and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Memorials are preferred to the Billy Graham Crusade.
She is survived by her children, Lyle Penk of Stewart, Lindsay Penk of Stewart and Laurie Flaspeter and husband Jim of Belle Plaine.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Mathilda Gildemeister, Emma Burdorf, Elsie Meyer; and brothers, Elmer and Herb Dreyer.
She was born July 31, 1913, in Moltke Township, Sibley County, to Deitrich and Sophie (Mueller) Dreyer. She grew up in Moltke Township and attended rural school. She married Oliver Martin Penk on July 2, 1941 at St. Paul's Lutheran Parsonage in Stewart. The couple farmed in the Stewart area. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stewart and was active in its Ladies Aid.
Nellie Salzwedel, 95, of Backus and formerly of Gaylord, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at United Church of Christ n Gaylord with burial in Gaylord Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to the services at the United Church of Christ. Local arrangements by the Egesdal Funeral Home of Gaylord.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Salzwedel of Backus; four grandchildren; sister, Grace Anderson of Mason City, Iowa; son-in-law, Hadley Hamre of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
She is preceded in death by her husband, J.J. Salzwedel in 1984; daughter, Jane Hamre; brother, Gregor Anderson; sisters, Emma Wells, Stena Jensen, Judy Morseth, Agness Jensen, Mabel Jensen, Violet Gislason and Margaret Roupe.
She was born Feb. 20, 1904 in Ettrick, Wis., to Martin Julius and Anne Marie (Larson) Anderson. She graduated from Ivanhoe High School and from Mankato Normal School. She married J.J. Salzwedel in Staples. They moved to Gaylord in 1942. She was a substitute teacher at the Gaylord elementary school. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Gaylord. In 1996 she moved to Backus to live with her family.
Ethel Anderson, 90, of Franklin, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Franklin Healthcare Center.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Swedlanda Lutheran Church, Palmyra Township, rural Hector with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
She is survived by her children, Jerome Anderson and wife Bernadine of Eden Prairie, Harris Anderson and wife Betty of Bird Island, Corrine Sander and husband Ralph of Franklin and Janet Lund and her husband Gary of Redwood Falls; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Harry Toren of Buffalo Lake; sisters-in-law Erna Toren, Mary Jane Toren, Ruth Anderson and Alice Anderson; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; grandchild, Mark Lund; brothers, Spencer, Ben, Rudolph, Hilding, Walter, Clarence, Milton, Willard and Harold; and nephew, John Toren.
She was born Jan. 3, 1909, in Palmyra Township, near Franklin to Johan and Elimina (Anderson) Toren. She attended District 87 rural school. On Sept.27, 1932, she married Carl T. Anderson. They farmed in the Palmyra and Bandon townships. She was a life member of Swedlanda Lutheran Church and was active in Ladies Aid.
Albert Trost, 94, died Monday, Oct. 4, 199, at Redwood Falls Hospital.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service. Kulow Funeral Service of Echo is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by children, Cletus and wife Fern Trost of Wabasso, Ralph and wife Mildred Trost of Wabasso, Bernus and husband Myron Trebesch of Sleepy Eye, Marilyn and husband Don Rothmeier of Clements, and Diane and husband Everett Knott of McMinnville, Ore.; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Minnie in 1965; one granddaughter, two brothers; and four sisters.
He was born May 24, 1905, in Sheridan Township, Redwood County, near Seaforth, to George and Theresa (Brey) Trost. He attended country school. He married Minnie Hammerschmidt on Jan. 1, 1930, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso. They farmed in the Seaforth, Wabasso and Milroy areas until his retirement in 1965. He lived in Seaforth until August 1992 when he became a resident of the Wabasso Health Care Center. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for 76 years.
Elaine L. Springer, 55 of Winthrop died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999 at the New Ulm Medical Center.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by her husband John Springer of Winthrop; a daughter Angie Neuman and husband Kevin of Fairfax; a son Scott Springer and wife Mona of Hudson; two grandchildren; her mother Leona Kruggel of Winthrop; brothers, Jim Kruggel and wife Carol of Winthrop, and Denny Kruggel of Winthrop; a sister Kathy Volkmann of Winthrop; brother-in-law Ron Springer and wife Sharon of Corona, Calif.; sister-in-law Joyce Osland and husband Stan of Tracy; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was prededed in death by her father Norman Kruggel and sister Jean Kruggel.
She was born April 21, 1944 in New Ulm. She grew up in the Winthrop area and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1962. Afterward, she worked in the Twin Cities Auto Mile, different auto stores and as a secretary. She married John Springer on Dec.28, 1966 at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop.
Virginia Wilkerson, 56 of Springfield died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Springfield with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, and 7:30-9 a.m. Friday at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Delbert in 1981; step-son Doug Stark; and her grandparents.
She was born July 19, 1943 in Fort Dix, N.J. and moved with her family to Sleepy Eye as an infant. She attended grade school at St. John Lutheran School in Sleepy Eye and graduated from Springfield High School in 1961. Following graduation, she lived and worked in Rochester, Sleepy Eye and Minneapolis. She married Delbert Stark on June 26, 1965 in Springfield. She married Lloyd Wilkerson on on Dec. 30, 1985 in New Ulm. She was employed at the Springfield Farmers Elevator, Sanborn Manufacturing Company, was secretary for St. Paul Lutheran Church and for a time worked at Food n' Fuel. She was a current member and past president of the Springfield American Legion Auxiliary.
Mary H. Fromm, 94, of Osseo, formerly of the Sleepy Eye area, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999 in Osseo.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-9 a.m. Saturday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her children: Don and his wife Beryle Fromm of Mesa, Ariz., Alice and her husband Dwight John Imker of Chanhassen, Ruth Warne of Minneapolis, Marie Curran of Plant City, Fla. Dolores and her husband Harney Wohnoutka of Bird Island, Tom and his wife Helen Fromm of Waukesha, Wis. and Doug and his wife Sharon Fromm of Brooklyn Park; 35 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and her sisters, Loretta Green of Tucson, Ariz. and Alice Owings of Mariposa, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers; five sisters; her sons, Joseph and Linus; two grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Darrell Warne.
She was born Nov. 22, 1904, in Scribner, Neb. to Carl and Hermina (Grolig) Unzeitig. While growing up, Mary's family moved to Minnesota and lived in the Sleepy Eye area. On June 9, 1925, she married Felix Fromm at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Following their marriage, the couple lived in the Morgan area, and later lived in Sleepy Eye from 1952 to 1975. In 1975, Mary moved to Shakopee, and in 1992 to Osseo. She was a past member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers.
Robert 'Bob' Johnson, 60, of rural Garden City died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999 at Madelia Community Hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Vernon Center with burial in the Vernon Center Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Lake Crystal Mortuary and one hour before services at the church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis of rural Garden City; children: Robin Henke and husband Craig of North Mankato, Wendy Johnson and fiance Scott Amundson of North Mankato, Jodi Radde and husband Darren of Granger, Ind., Tracy Johnson of Garden City, Chad Johnson and wife Patricia of North Mankato, Brent Johnson and wife Leslie of Lake Crystal; four grandchildren; brother Wayne Johnson and wife Janet of Hanska; nieces, nephews and mother-in-law Sylvia Denn of Lewisville. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, a brother-in-law and his father-in-law.
He was born Jan. 15, 1939 in Mankato to Harley and Hildegarde (Reinke) Johnson. He graduated from Garden City High School. On June 6, 1960 he married Phyllis Denn at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Vernon Center.
He worked for Vernon Center Feed Service, Lewisville Motors for 28 years and was most recently employed with Kato Light Corperation in Mankato. He and his son Brent farmed together in the Garden City area. He was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where he had been an usher.
Delbert W. Meinert, 82, of Sleepy Eye died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999 in Springfield.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in the Home Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4- 8 p.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church.
He is survived by his wife Violet of Sleepy Eye; children Judy and her husband Dean Isaksen of Springfield, James and wife Rebecca Meinert of Sleepy Eye, Loren Meinert of Sleepy Eye and Jeanne Meinert and husband Mike Senster of Anchorage, Ala.; five grandchildren; brother Lloyd and his wife Erna Meinert of New Ulm; sisters: Mildred Fiebiger of Neenah, Wisc., and Melva and her husband Leonard Koch of Lamberton; sister-in-law, Hildegard Meinert of Sleepy Eye.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Melvin in infancy and Raymond, and brother-in-law Philip Fiebiger.
He was born Oct. 15, 1916 to in Sleepy Eye to John and Delia (Vollmer) Meinert. He grew up and attended school in the Sleepy Eye area. After he completed his schooling he farmed with his father. He married Violet Trebesch on April 4, 1948 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. He continued farming on the home farm in Leavenworth township. After his retirement in 1979, the couple moved into Sleepy Eye after 63 years on the farm. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and as an usher.
John I. Mosenden, 48, of Hanska died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999 at the V.A. Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be today from 4-7 p.m. at the Firle Funeral Home in Hanska and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his son Samuel Mosenden of St. James; mother Joan Mosenden of North Mankato; siblings: Billie Hanson and her husband Randy of North Mankato, Adam Mosenden of Hanska, Jamie Mosenden of New Ulm; a niece, a great nephew and a great niece McKenzie; aunts, uncles, and cousins; very special friend Phyllis Orsch of Fairmont.
He was preceded in death by his father Hilmer. He was born June 6, 1951 in New Ulm. He graduated from New Ulm High School and went on to Hutchinson Technical College for small motor mechanics. Upon graduating he worked at Marv's Sports Center in New Ulm. He also worked at the former Wilfahrt Brothers Hardware Store in New Ulm.
He co-owned and operated The Performance Motorcycle Shop in Courtland. While in the United Stated Army he served in Germany. He was a member of The Flying Dutchman Motorcycle Club, The American Motorcycle Association, and the Hanska American Legion Post #365. He was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Merlin 'Mick' Cooper, 56, of New Ulm, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 1999 at Immanuel/St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.
Mass of Christian burial is 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today and 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm. A parish prayer service will be held 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Cooper; sons, Keith and his wife Liz Cooper, Gary and his wife Wendy Cooper, all of New Ulm; grandchildren, Alex, Austin, Samantha and Daniel; mother, Edith Cooper of Morris; brother, Harold and his wife Sandy Cooper of Appleton; sisters, Connie and her husband Melvin Wohlers of Morris, Shirley Cooper of Richfield, Karen and her husband Bod Nierson of Bloomington; two aunts; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother-in-law and father-in-law.
He was born May 19, 1943, in rural Clinton to Melvin and Edith (Carlson) Cooper. He grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1961. On May 11, 1962, he married Carol Karels in Ortonville. The couple lived for five years in Morris where he became an insurance agent. They moved to New Ulm in 1967. He became district sales manager for Combined Insurance. He retired from Combined Insurance in 1990 when he started his own agency. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm.
