Emmett L. Garten, 81, of St. James, died Friday, November 12, 1999 at home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Augustana Lutheran Church, St. James. Burial with full military honors will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 8-9 a.m. Monday at Pease Funeral Home, St. James, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his wife Laura; sons, Donald and fiance Patricia Drier of Eagle Lake, Terry and wife Cindy of Bloomington; daughters, Shirley Raatz and husband Arlo of New Ulm, Joan Klinkner and husband Mike of Madelia, Mary Garten of New Ulm, Lorie Wiedow and husband Dan of Mankato and Susan Cowell and husband Kevin of St. James; 23 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Max and wife Ruth of Phoenix, Ariz. and Howard and wife Rochelle of Powersville, Mo.; sisters, Maxine Kincaid and husband Roger of Silvis, Ill. and Wilma Murphy and husband Wayne of Powersville; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons; three brothers; one sister; and two grandchildren.
He was born Feb. 9, 1918 in Benton, Iowa to John and Leona (Mead) Garten. He attended school in Mitchell, S.D. He married Laura Lorenz Sept. 5, 1937 in St. James. They lived in several communities in southern Minnesota and Iowa following their marriage. He was employed on poultry farms and in food processing plants, including Tony Down Foods in Madelia and St. James. He also worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and had operated a garbage route in St. James. He served in the Army in Asia during World War II and was also in the National Guard. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, St. James, and the American Legion.

Doris Jahr, 92 of Arlington, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999 at Waconia Ridgeview Medical Center.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Arlington with burial in the Arlington Public Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today, and 8-11 a.m. Sunday at the Fenske Funeral Home in Arlington, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
There will be a prayer service at the Funeral Home tonight at 7:45 p.m.
She is survived by her husband Martin Jahr of Arlington; sons and daughters-in-law: Elden and Joyce Winter of Darwi; Roger and Myra Jahr of Arlington; sisters and brothers-in-law: Cora Goebel of Arlington, Marilla and Arnold Narr of Henderson, and Valerie and Melvin Doering of Hutchinson; sister-in-law Lorna Jahr of Gaylord; seven grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her first husband, Arthur Winter in 1935.
She was born June 22, 1907 in Washingtonn Lake Township, Green Isle to Charles and Anna (Lemberg) Timm. She married Arthur Winter on Oct. 27, 1926. He died May 28, 1935. She married Martin Jahr in Arlington on Oct. 25, 1936. She was an honorary member of St. Paul's Ladies Aid.

Edwin Kaseforth, 82, of Springfield, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999 at Springfield Medical Center.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Springfield, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, and will continue one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
He is survived by his wife Ruth; daughters, Marsha and husband Charles Schmidt of Springfield and Donna and husband Clyde Schmidt of Springfield; son John and wife Roseann of Springfield; four grandchildren; brother Ervin and wife Helen of Springfield; sisters, Viola Johansen of Montevideo, Elizabeth Hansen of Spicer, Cleona and husband D.C. Bliss of Seaforth, and Lillian and husband Alvin Schiller of New Ulm; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers-in-law, Stanley Hansen and Delmar Johansen.
He was born Oct. 8, 1917, on in Stately Township. He was a farmer, moving to Springfield in 1984. He attended Dotson Rural School District No. 88. He married Ruth Ohlemann on Sept. 20, 1947, in Minneapolis. He was on the board of directors for the Springfield Elevator, ASCS office and Stark Farmers Mutual Insurance Agency, Sleepy Eye. He was an insurance representative with Stark Farmers and North Star Mutual Insurance companies. he was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Springfield.

Charles Kuebler, 58, of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Sleepy Eye Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a Knights of Columbus rosary at 5 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife Margaret "Maggie"; daughters, Laura and husband Ron Horman of Clements and Lisa and husband Denis Berdan of New Ulm; sons, Brian and wife Lisa of Lake Crystal and Dan and fiancee Amanda Braun of Lake Crystal; five grandchildren; sisters, Beatrice and husband Milton Witt of W. St. Paul, Janet and husband Gilbert Hillesheim of New Ulm and Kathy and husband Frank Vogel of Sanborn; brothers, George and wife Esther of Arlington, John and wife Delores of St. James and Glen of Sleepy Eye; aunt Anna Weicherding; and uncle Max Hoffmann.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Doris Sellner.
He was born Aug. 15, 1941, in rural Springfield to George and Mathilda (Hoffmann) Kuebler. He attended country school and Sleepy Eye Public School. He married Margaret "Maggie" Schreiner on April 8, 1967, in Sleepy Eye. He worked at the Westside Garage, Brown County Co-op and the City Of Sleepy Eye, where he was in the water department. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the New Ulm Area Sport Fishermen, the N.R.A., and was a past member of the Sleepy Eye Fire Department.

Adele Harjes, 87, of Green Isle, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Waconia Ridgeview Medical Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Green Isle, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. There will be prayer service 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Fenske Funeral Home, Arlington, is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, William and Dorothea, Roger and Holly and Robert and Kathleen, all of Green Isle; sisters and brothers-in-laww, Gertrude "Trudy" Oelfke, and Viola "Vi" Olson, all of Florida, Marie "Maryl" Klotz of Waconia and Elizabeth "Betty" and Edgar Spletzer of Henderson; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Robert Sperling, 60, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Stewart Memorial Hospital, Lake City.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Lake City, with burial in the City Cemetery.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 8 p.m., at Lampe Funeral Home, Lake City.
Survivors include his wife Meridith; daughters, Cynthia and husband Steve Winslow of Eatonville, Wash., Sandra and husband Dennis Schute of Tonasket, Wash., Rebecca and husband John Zenkovich of Birnamwood, Wisc., and Sharon and husband John King of Parkville, Mo.; son, Randall and wife Marie of New Ulm; six grandchildren; brother John of Edwardsville, Ill.; and sister, Katherine Kutz of Fort Atkinson, Wisc.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born Aug. 9, 1939, in New Ulm, to Ernst and Lydia (Winter) Sperling. He graduated from Dr. Martin Luther High School in 1957 and attended college for two years. He married Meridith Blanchard on March 4, 1960, in Winona. They have lived in Lake City for the past 14 years. He was a voicer for the Dobson Pipe Organ builders in Lake City. He was active in the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Lake City, as a church organist and choir director.

Roland "Benny" Thiede, 74, of New Ulm, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Oak Hills Living Center, New Ulm.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Ulm, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm, and will continue one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Bernard Leiferman, 78, of Walnut Grove, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at the Vets Hospital, Saint Cloud.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at English Lutheran Church, Walnut Grove.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the church, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Jacobsen Funeral Home, Walnut Grove, is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Algene; son Alan of Owatonna; daughter Sheryl and husband Tom Holmes of Janesville; grandsons, Nathan and Nicholas Leiferman and Evan and Greg Holmes; brother Aloysius of Mapleton; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gale; one brother; and five sisters.
He was born Sept, 6, 1921, in Beauford Township, Blue Earth County, to George and Anna (Samuelson) Leiferman. The family lived in the Mapleton area. In May 1942 he entered the U.S. Arm. He served in the European Theatre. he was discharged Nov. 3, 1945 and went to work for Solie Sales and Frank Brothers Elevator. He married Algene Hanson on June 9, 1947 in Westbrook. They lived in Mapleton until March 1950, when they moved to the Walnut Grove area, where they farmed. He was a DeKalb seed salesman since 1960. He was a member of English Lutheran Church, Walnut Grove, the Lions Club, Walnut Grove, and V.F.W., Tracy.

Lenora Renneke, 89, of Redwood Falls, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999 at Redwood Falls Hospital.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls, with burial in the city cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m.today and 8:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, and will continue at the church one hour prior to services Tuesday.
She is survived by stepdaughters, June Frohrip and husband Lester of Tulsa, Okla., Lois Agather of Fargo, N.D., and Fern Schmiesing and husband Russell of Tracy; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Agnes Fick of Blue Earth and Lila Schaffran and husband Harvey of Lamberton; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister Candace.
She was born March 10, 1910, in North Hero Township, Redwood County, near Revere, to Edward and Clara (Evenson) Fick. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Revere. She worked as a housekeeper and began taking care of her father in 1936. She married Ezra Renneke on June 19, 1948 in Revere. They farmed in Posen Township near Echo. In May 1984 they moved to Redwood Falls. She was a member of Revere Lutheran Church, Peace Lutheran Church, Echo, and St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls.

Clark Jenson, 74, of Bemidji, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.
Services were Friday at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, with burial in Trinity Free Lutheran Cemetery, Pony Lake.
He is survived by wife, Jean, of Bemidji; daughters, Connie Loberg of Brainerd, Caren Thornton of Foley, Cathy Hufnagle of Newfolden, Camey Jenson, of Auburn, Wash.; Cheri Leach and Carol Jourdan of Bemidji; 21 grandchildren; and sister, Carol Jenson of Rush City.
He was preceded in death by parents; sisters, Ruth, Fay; and brother, Alden (Bud).
He was born Oct. 4, 1925, in Springfield to Nels and Adelia (Engelrup) Jenson. He graduated from Springfield High School. He married Jean Swigart on Aug. 20, 1950, in Redwood Falls. They lived in rural Morgan where they farmed. They moved to Kelliher where he continued to farm. He retired in 1988, and they moved to Bemidji.

Mary A. Shaffer-Truman, 58, of Sherburn, died Nov. 14, 1999, at Fairmont Community Hospital
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sherburn with burial in Elm Creek Cemetery, rural Trimont.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn and continues one hour before services Thursday at the church.

Nancy Lull Sampson, 93, formerly of the Sleepy Eye and Fairfax, areas died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
A private family service will be held followed by the burial at West Point, New York at a later date.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Garrett and Judy Sampson of New Ulm; son, Brett Sampson of Dallas, Texas; a granddaughter, Karoline Lull Sampson and her husband, Andrew Buck of Minneapolis; also by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross T. Sampson; and sister, Mildred Lull Forward.
She was born July 3, 1906, to Evander and Rachel Lull in Buffalo, NY. She attended elementary and high school there, before graduating from the University of Buffalo in 1927. She taught elementary school at West Point. She married Lt. Ross T. Sampson in Ogden, Utah in 1932. During their 30-year military career, they lived in France, Germany, Turkey, Thailand, the Panama Canal Zone, Hawaii and various bases in the United States. After the death of her husband in 1974, she split her time among Florida, Fairfax, and Sleepy Eyee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the World Hunger Appeal, c/o ELCA, 8765 West Higgins Road, Chicago, IL, 60631, or to the organization of the donor's choice.
