Roland Benjamin "Benny" Thiede, 74, of 1405 N. Payne, New Ulm, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St, Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church
He is survived by his wife Beatrice "Bea" of New Ulm; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Marie Thiede of New Ulm; two stepgrandchildren, Tim and Amanda Waibel, also of New Ulm; mother-in-law, Elinor Wolf of New Ulm; sisters-in-law, Nyla and her husband Lawrence Wille of Morristown, Dorothy (Thiede) Soldin and her husband Clinton of New Ulm; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Ralph Thiede; and sister, Lillian Kuyper.
He was born Aug. 4, 1925, in New Ulm, to Alfred and Helen (Lindemann) Thiede. He graduated from New Ulm High School. He worked as a tire salesman for Firestone. On June 15, 1957, he married Beatrice Wolf at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. He worked in the sporting goods department, shipping and tire sales at Montgomery Ward in New Ulm. He became assistant manager at Pamida. He also worked for New Ulm Laundry and New Ulm Manufacturing. He worked for 17 years at the AMPI in New Ulm as a custodian. He retired in 1987. He became a resident of Oak Hills Living Center in June 1996. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
Memorials are preferred to donor's choice.

Adele "Della" S. Harjes, 87 of Green Isle died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Waconia Ridgeview Medical. Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Green Isle with burial in the church cemetery .
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service Wednesday. There will be a prayer service at 7:45 p.m.
Fenske Funeral Home of Arlington handled arrangements.
She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law: William Jr. and Dorothea, Roger and Holly, Robert and Kathleen Harjes, all of Green Isle; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gertrude "Trudy" Oelfke, and Viola Olson, both of Florida; Marie Klotz of Waconia, and Elizabeth and Edgar Spletzer of Henderson; sisters-in-law, Meta Harjes of Arlington, and Dorothy Panning of Norwood; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William on March 22, 1987; and grandson-in-law Mark Monson.
She was born May 18, 1912, in Washington Lake Township, Green Isle, to Herman and Marie (Kuhlmann) Thalman. She married William H. Harjes Sr. on April 21, 1929 in Hamburg. She was a homemaker and helped on the farm. She was a member of St. Paul's Couple's Club and Ladies Aid.

Frieda Hennis, 96, of Lewisville died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999 at Lake Crystal Health Care Center.
Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Dr. Henry Hennis of Coleman, Mich., Stanley Hennis of Detroit Lakes, Richard and Shirley Hennis of Lewisville; daughter, Lorraine Kelly of Mankato; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and sister Hulda Bolin of Madelia.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1956; son, Wayne; brothers, Willie, Oscar, Herman, Fred, and Herbert; and sister Herta Boelter.
She was born Nov. 17, 1902, in Lewisville to Emil and Louise (Shlach). She grew up in Berlin, Germany, and Lewisville, where she attended school. She married John Hennis on Dec. 15, 1924, in Lewisville. They farmed in the Lewisville area. She also worked at Stokely Canning Company in Fairmont for 20 years and served as a union steward. She worked five years at t Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and American Legion Auxiliary.

George G. Freeman, 92, of Springfield, formerly of Walnut Grove, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999 at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Springfield, with burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-9 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, and one hour before services at the church Wednesday.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; sons, Bruce and wife Vivian of Loretto, Dean and wife Judith of Pipestone, Myron of Los Angeles, Calif., and Larry and wife Linda of Shakopee; daughter, Cheryl and husband Ron Walter of Centuria, Wis.; stepsons, Arlon and wife Linda Voge of Bismarck, N.D. and Darvin and wife Kay Voge of Springfield; son-in-law, Bernard Wendland of Loretto; 10 grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fern Kephart; great-granddaughter, Molly Freeman; sister and brother-in-law, Viola and Paul Trewartha; and brother and sister-in-law, Maynard and Agnes Kephart.
He was born Oct. 13, 1907, in North Hero Township, Redwood County, to George and Cora (Addison) Freeman. He moved into Walnut Grove with his parents in 1913 and attended school until the 10th grade. During his time in school, he worked at the Walnut Grove Bakery. He and a friend moved to Mankato to work in a printing office. In 1928, he moved to Chicago, where he drove a bus for the Chicago Bus Co., then Yellow Cab. He also worked in Milwaukee on construction. He moved back to Walnut Grove to continue working in construction. He was involved with the building of the Lamberton Bridge. In the spring of 1933 he began farming. He married Fern Kephart on June 15, 1933 in Revere. Following retirement, he worked in construction as a roofer. While living in the Walnut Grove area, he was a member of the United Methodist Church. He married Norma Voge on July 11, 1981 and moved to Springfield. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Adeline Stark, 83, of 300 N. Broadway, in New Ulm died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at her home.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in New Ulm with burial in Zion Evangelical Methodist Cemetery in Buffalo Lake.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8 a.m. Thursday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm; and continues one hour before the service Thursday at the church.
She is survived by, daughter, Carolyn Steinbach of New Ulm; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat- grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; son-in-law, Willard Kokesch of New Ulm; sisters and brother in law, Christina Dettmann of Stewart, Sylvia Mielke, Marvel and Melvin Meyer all of Hutchinson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry Stark on Jan. 27, 1971; daughter, Jean Kokesch on March 24, 1992; a brother in infancy; and sister, Esther Bethke.
She was born Sept. 21, 1916, in Grafton Township, Sibley County, to Henry and Clara (Patzold) Schultz. She attended Grafton Township Country School. She married Harry Stark on Sept. 1, 1936, at United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake. They farmed in rural Gibbon. She moved into New Ulm in July of 1971. She worked at the Sioux Valley Hospital and the Glockenspiel Haus. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Golden Age Club, and a former 4-H leader in Sibley County.

Mary A. Schaffer-Truman, 58 of Sherburn, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999 at Fairmont Community Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sherburn with burial in the Elm Creek Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn and continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Truman of Sherburn; daughter, Lori Johnson and husband Ted of Fairmont; sons, Keith Schaffer and wife Christine of Faribault, Joseph Schaffer of rural Sherburn; grandchildren: Norah and Nicole Groshens and their father, Craig of Sherburn, and Ramsey Schaffer of Faribault; foster daughter, Tara Eisenmenger of Sherburn; sisters, Darlene Anderson and husband Larry of Fairmont, Dianne Adamson and husband Sterling of Trimont; brothers, Roger Flohrs and wife Eileen of Minnesota Lake, Lowell Flohrs and wife Elaine of Fairmont; mother-in-law, Helen Angst of St. James; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Norman Schaffer and other relatives.
She was born Dec. 23, 1940, to Alvin and Dorothy (Schiller) Flohrs in St. James. She was a 1958 graduate of Trimont High School. She was employed by Tony Downs Foods in St. James. She married Norman Schaffer April 14, 1961 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Ormsby. They lived in Trimont until 1962 when they moved to a farm west of Sherburn. In 1963 they moved into Sherburn where she was employed as a cook and waitress for various cafes. She was employed at Seifert Drug Store in Sherburn for many years. In 1970 she began work at Spoery-Univac until it closed. Norman died Sept. 24, 1983. She married Robert Truman on June 21, 1997 at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Fairmont. She was employed at Fairmont Foods, COR in Sherburn and Kentucky Fried Chicken in Fairmont. Most recently she was employed at Fairmont Community Hospital. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairmont.

Helen Larson, 83 of Hector, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at her home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Swedlanda Lutheran Church in Palmyra Township with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
She is survived by her daughters, Leila Larson of Edina, Lynette Emberland and her husband Wayne of Willmar, Carolyn Bargman of Hector; grandsons, Mark and Jon Emberland, Brady and Cale Bargman; several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; brothers, Adry and Clyde; and sisters Dorothea Bjork, Laura Hubbard, and Marion Johnson.
She was born Jan. 31, 1916, in Watertown to Emil and Carolina (Holmberg) Carlson. She grew up in the Watertown area and graduated from the Watertown High School. She received a teaching certificate from St. Cloud Teachers College. She taught several years in Renville County. She married Carl Ruben Larson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown on June 20, 1939. The couple farmed in Palmyra Township. They moved to Hector in 1976. Carl died in 1984. She was a member of Swedlanda Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, Jr. Mission leader, Dorcas leader, council member and WELCA member.

Carrie Gilb, 84 of Walnut Grove died at her home Saturday, November 13, 1999.
Services are 11 a.m. today at English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove with burial in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Jacobson Funeral Home in Walnut Grove is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Jeanine and Bob Christy of Sacred Heart; Judy and Keith Boe of Presso, Ariz.; Sally and Bruce Hassinger of Denver, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo in 1981; son Charlie in 1980; daughter Barbara in 1998 ; two grandsons.
She was born July 5, 1915 in Marengo, Iowa to John and Mary (Burrell) McComb. The family moved to the Walnut Grove area where she attended school, graduating as Valedictorian in 1933. She married Leo V. Gilb in March 1933 and made their home in Tracy. In 1937 they moved to a farm north of Walnut. In 1956 they moved to Walnut Grove. She was a member of English Lutheran Church, the 20th Century Club, General Federated Womens Club of Redwood County. She was active in the Republican party and served as a delegate to several conventions. She was also a member of the Gales Extension Club and was instrumental in the start of the Plum Creek Bookmobile.

John W. Olson, 65 of Minneapolis and formerly of Redwood Falls died Monday, November 15, 1999 at the Hennepin county Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m.-Noon Friday at the Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Michelle Huxford and husband Jeff of Owatonna, Melanie Cook and husband Doug of Springfield, and Andrea Gerth and husband Randy of Kirkland, Wash.; grandchildren: Brandon Sandberg, Ryan Huxford and Connor Gerth; sister Eleanor Steffens and husband Vern of Faribault; nieces, nephews, other relatives.
He was born Oct. 1, 1934 in Fergus Falls to Jesse and Lucille (Barber) Olson. The family moved to Redwood Falls in 1937 and he attended Redwood Falls Schools, graduating from Redwood Falls High School. He graduated from McCalester College of St. Paul in 1956. He joined the United States Navy in 1956, attained the rank of LTJG, and was discharged in 1959. He was a National Bank examiner 1960 -1966. He worked for Ottertail Power Company as an auditor in Fergus Fall until 1968 when he returned to bank examining for the FDIC. He joined Farmers State Band in Morton in 1971. Later he managed real estate and sold insurance. He took up residence in the Veterans Home in Minneapolis in 1988. He married Dona Hitterdal on Dec. 21, 1968 in Hitterdal. He belonged to the Zuhrah Shrine, Rotary Club, and Travelers Club. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and sang in the choir.

Bernice (Mrs. Morris) Hippert, 77, of 2526 South Bridge Street #32, died Wednesday, November 17, 1999 at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in New Ulm with burial in the Sunset Park Cemetery in Isle, Minnesota.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home of New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Morris Hippert of New Ulm; sons and daughters in law, Dennis and Florence Mott of Portland, Ore, Dale and Susan Mott of Gilbert; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Gloria Habeck of Isle, and Ethel Brooks of Princeton; brother, Elmer Eklund of Isle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Charles Mott in 1980; brothers, Howard and Leonard Eklund; sister, Marge Peterson.
She was born Dec. 5, 1921 in Opstead to Carl and Tillie (Olson) Eklund. She graduated from Aitkin High School and Bemidji State University. She married Charles Mott on Aug. 5, 1939 in Isle. After their marriage they lived in Isle, Hibbing and Crosby until Charles' death. She married Morris Hippert in 1982 and they moved to New Ulm where they lived together the last 17 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Ulm and a past member of the Crosby Presbyterian Church.

Jacob Michael Weicherding, Funeral services for Jacob Michael Weicherding, stillborn son of Terry J. and Deborah (Heiderscheidt) Weicherding of Sleepy Eye will be Friday, 3p.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye A private burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Jacob is survived by his parents, Terry and Deborah Weicherding; sister, Nichole; brothers, Spencer and Tyler, all of Sleepy Eye; maternal grandparents, Jerome and Patsy Weicherding of Sleepy Eye, and paternal grandparents, Leonard and Marcia Heiderscheidt of Sleepy Eye.

Bernice H. Fritz, 89, of Sleepy Eye died Thursday, Nov.18, 1999 at the Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Divine Providence Nursing Home in Sleepy Eye, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Woodland Hills Funeral Home in Mankato is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter, Debbie and her husband Roger Harmon of Fridley; a son, Steven and wife Debbie Fritz of West Lafayette, Ind.; a daughter-in-law Barbara Fritz of Apple Valley; five grandchildren; a brother, Ray Schulte of Minneapolis; sisters, Florence Crawford and husband Jim of Minneapolis and Irene Thelen of California; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo in July 1999; a son John in Sept. 1999, and a sister, Sister Mary Eileen.
She was born Jan. 23, 1910 in Dorchester, Iowa to John and Katherine (Lyons) Schulte. She married Leo Fritz on June 20, 1939 in Dorchester. She attended nursing school in LaCrosse, Wis. and worked as a private nurse in Chicago. She and Leo owned and operated Leo's City Cafe in Sleepy Eye for 35 years. She was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Christian Women's Society of St. Mary's Church. She was also a member of the Red Cross Volunteer Nurses.
