Mary Filzen Hlavac, 94, of 19 North Hazelwood St., New Ulm, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-11 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mother's Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Friday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 PM Friday evening at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mabel Kral of Maplewood, Gladys Elrod of Stonyford, Calif., Shirley and Gene Gores of Redwood Falls, Donna and Hugo Balk Sr. of North Mankato, and Phyllis and Bernard Gulden of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald Filzen, Richard and Rita Filzen, and Roger Filzen all of New Ulm, and Walter Filzen and a special friend, Lorraine Kelly, both of Mankato; stepchildren, Belva Harris of Brainerd, Dorothy Mattes of Friendswood, Texas, and Rose Ranweiler of New Ulm; 21 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter; and a sister, Veronica Brueske of the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands;
three infant sons; three son-in-laws; three brothers; and three sisters.
She was born May 5, 1905, in New Ulm to John and Barbara (Fleck) Zangel. She married Philip Filzen and later married William Hlavac Sr. She lived all her life in New Ulm where she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and a member of the Chrisitian Mother's Society in New Ulm.
Catherine E. Hippert, 79, of Chippewa Falls, Wis., died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chippewa Falls.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel in Chippewa Falls with burial in Prairie View Cemetery in the Hallie, Wis.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today and until the time of the service Friday at the funeral chapel.
She is survived by daughters, Sandra and husband Gerry Meade of Racine, Wis., Jean Marie and husband Robert Brovold of New Auburn, Wis., and Karen and husband Randal Hedrington of Holmen, Wis.; a son, DuWayne and wife Joanne Hippert of Frankston, Texas; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990; her parents; a sister, Marcella Bachman; and three brothers, Roman, Irwin and Carl Schmid.
She was born Sept. 25, 1920 in New Ulm to Catherine (Tauer) and Rudolph Schmid. She grew up in New Ulm, attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from Trinity High School in 1938.
She married Harvey W. Hippert on July 3, 1940 at Holy Trinity Rectory in New Ulm. They farmed in the New Ulm area until 1947, when they moved to the Chippewa Falls area. They lived in Chippewa Falls for 26 years and Catherine was employed at One-Hour Martinizing, F & F Shoe Company, Chippewa Falls Middle School and Falls Cleaners until retiring at the age of 62.
Linnea J. Johnson, 93, formerly of rural Mountain Lake, died Tuesday Jan. 11, 2000, at Fairview/Good Samaritan home in St. James.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Odin. with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Odin.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at Eifert Funeral Home in Mountain Lake and one hour prior to the Saturday service at the church.
She is survived by her children, Lorraine and husband Vern Sandberg of Butterfield, Vern and wife Katherin Johnson of Mountain Lake, Darlene and husband August Kunkel of Mountain Lake, George and wife Clara Johnson of St. James, Leland and wife Barbara Johnson of Mountain Lake, Lester and wife Judie Johnson or Worthington; 30 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert, in 1992; her parents; sisters, Maude Porter and Esther Paulson; a brother, George Samuelson; a son-in-law, Conrad Sandberg; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was born March 2, 1906 in Stratford, Iowa to Victor and Louisa (Carlson) Samuelson. She attended schools in the Stratford area.
She married Albert O. Johnson in Butterfield Township Jan. 25, 1925 and they lived most of their married life on their Mountain Lake area farm.
Margaret E. Sobocinski, 84, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Divine Providence Home in Sleepy Eye.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with an Interment at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
A parish prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. and a Catholic Aid Rosary at 4 p.m., both Friday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her children, Stan, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Apple Valley, Mark of Hamel, Paul and wife Candy of Wabasso, Barbara and husband Mike Szostkowski of St. Paul, Thomas and wife Prudence of Leysin, Switzerland, Charles and wife Cindy of Barnesville, Robert and wife Lynn of New Prague; daughter-in-law Carole Steffl of Maple Plain; 21 grandchildren; sisters, Gertrude and husband Sylvester Huiras of Columbia, Mo., Helen Fiero of Ildsmar, Fla., and Lucille Mangen of Minnetonka; sisters-in-law, Loretta Zschetzsche of Sleepy Eye and Mary Zschetzsche of Sleepy Eye; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley on Dec. 30, 1999; brothers, Edwin, Norbert and his wife Bernice, Jerome; and brothers-in-law, Vic Mangen and Jack Fiero.
Margaret was born Oct. 16, 1915 in Sleepy Eye to Arthur and Virginia (Van Kinder) Zschetzsche. She attended the Quail Trap School in Leavenworth and later St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye. Margaret attended St. Teresa's College and graduated with a degree in social work in 1936. Following graduation, she worked as a social worker in northern Minnesota, Margaret Barry Settlement House in Northeast Minneapolis and later with the Red Cross during WWII. Margaret met Stan at the Army Hospital in Fort Still, Okla. and married him Feb. 21, 1944 at the Church of Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. After the war, the couple made their home on a farm south of Sleepy Eye where they raised seven children and farmed until 1976. Margaret was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye where she was always active in church activities including Catholic Aid, Christian Mothers and Bible Study.
Norbert 'Nippie' Ries, 81 of New Ulm died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm, with burial in the Soldier's Rest section of the City Cemetery, New Ulm. Full military honors will be performed by New Ulm Veteran's Organization.
Visitation is 3-6 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm. A parish prayer service is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife Delores; a son, Scott of New Ulm; sisters, Leona Heinrich of Fairfax, Rosie Carlson and Helen Scott -- both of California; a brother Leonard Ries of Dickenson, N.D.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
Norbert Bernard Ries was born Aug. 17, 1918 in New Ulm, to George and Catherine (Boor) Ries. He grew up in New Ulm and attended Cathedral High School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1941, serving during WWII. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to New Ulm. He married Delores Lindorf Sept. 18, 1946 in New Ulm. The couple lived in New Ulm, where he worked for Dannheim's Dairy. They later owned and operated Nippie and Dee's Grocery. He moved to Gil-Mor Manor, Morgan, in 1990. He was a member of Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the American Legion and VFW.
Lester Hotovec, 76, of Wabasso, formerly of Delhi, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000 at the Redwood Falls Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, with burial in Olivia City Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his daughter LeAnn Marie Hotovec of Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by his son Calvin in 1999.
He was born May 8, 1923 in Danube to Joseph and Martha (Toltzman) Hotovec. He lived in the Danube area, where he attended school. He was a ditch tiller with his father for H & H Tiling and then was an independent truck driver for many years.
Gordon Richards, 80, of Buffalo Lake, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000 at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Hector United Methodist Church, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery, Boon Lake Township.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, and will continue one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; a son Neil and wife Ann of Pensacola, Fla.; a daughter Diane Abel and husband Lee of Hastings; five grandchildren; a sister Norine Riesburg of Hutchinson; and many nieces, nephews and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born Feb. 12, 1919 in Bozeman, Mont., to Roy and Inez (Beihofer) Richards. When he was six years old, the family left Montana and moved to the Buffalo Lake area. He attended school in Buffalo Lake, graduating from Buffalo Lake High School.
He married Margaret A. Carrigan on May 18, 1946 in Aitkin. The couple lived and farmed in Boon Lake Township until retirement. They continued to live on the family farm. He was a member of Churchill United Methodist Church until it closed, when he became a member of Hector United Methodist Church. He was a member of Boone Lake Township Board and Lakeside Creamery Board. he was also sexton of Evergreen Cemetery.
Milton Enter, 72, Rt. 2, Nicollet, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with burial in the church Cemetery, rural Nicollet.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m.today at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and one hour before the service Saturday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Enter of rural Nicollet; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Bill Huber of Pemberton, Gayle and Randy Peterson of North Mankato, Norma and Jim Goettlicher of Mankato; sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Wanda Enter of Nicollet, Kevin and Bev Enter of Nicollet; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Leona and Raymond Burnett of Mankato, Hildegard Asleson of Nicollet, Delores and Elmer Gleason of Nicollet; and sister-in-law, Jeanne Enter of Mankato.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin brothers, a brother and two sisters.
He was born Feb. 3, 1927, in Granby Township, Nicollet County, to Walter and Louise (Poehler) Enter He married Vera Quiram on April 19, 1950, at St. Peter (Bell) Lutheran Church in Elysian. They farmed in Granby Township, Nicollet County. He also worked as a truck driver for Green Giant in Le Sueur. He retired from farming in the early 1990s. For the past eight years he has been employed at Hewitt Manufacturing in Nicollet and worked there until November. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet.

Mary E. Maslowski, 88, of Arlington died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at her home.
Mass of Christian burial is 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Arlington with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements are handled by Fenske Funeral Home, Arlington. .
She is survived by grandchildren, Kathy and husband Pat Vossen of Arlington, Sue and husband Bill Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo., Cindy and husband Rick Acker of Jackson, Miss., Dan and wife Julie Carroll of New Ulm, Duane and wife Lisa Carroll of Brooklyn Park, Doug and wife Liz Carroll of Cannon Falls, Michelle Maslowski of Elgin, Ill., Cheryl Lynn Maslowski of Hemet, Calif.; adopted son, Donald Maslowski of California; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter in 1982; daughter, Barbara Carroll; son-in-law, John Carroll; sister, Alice Polydisky; and brother, Eugene Polydisky.
She was born Nov. 18, 1911, in Ogeman to Paul and Agnes (Gluba) Polydisky. She graduated from Minneapolis North High School and then worked at Strutwear Manufacturing. She married Walter Maslowski on June 30, 1934, in Minneapolis, where they lived. From 1952-1969 they owned and operated Lake Ida Resort in Monticello. They then moved to Buffalo where they lived until Walter died in 1982. She had lived in Highland Commons for 15 years. She was a member of Golden Age Club, president of Social Club at Highland Commons and a retired member of St. Mary's CCW. She was a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Center in Arlington
Violet M. "Vi" Albrecht, 86, of 2201 North Broadway in New Ulm died Thursday January 13, 2000 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm..
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the United Church of Christ in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service at the church. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home of New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Christ Hippert, Dianne and LaRay Johnson all of New Ulm; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Myrtle Anderson of New Ulm, Esther Schreyer of Pine Island; nieces and nephews; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alton and Judy Albrecht of rural New Ulm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frederick Albrecht in 1984; seven brothers and two sisters.
She was born Feb. 7, 1913 in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County to Gullick and Amelia (Sandquist) Johnson. She married Frederick Albrecht May 1, 1936 in New Ulm. After marriage they farmed in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County. They retired from farming in 1973 but continued to live on the farm. They moved into New Ulm in 1984. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in New Ulm, Ladies Aid, and the Senior Citizen Center in New Ulm. Memorials can be given in lieu of flowers.
