Geneva Welch, 89, of Redwood Falls, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at Wood Dale Nursing Home, Redwood Falls.
Private family services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, with burial in the city cemetery.
Public visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Geneva Welch, 89, of Redwood Falls, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at Wood Dale Nursing Home, Redwood Falls.
Private family services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, with burial in the city cemetery.
Visitation was held Friday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her children, Joyce Ahrens of Redwood Falls, Maxine Welch of Redwood Falls, Carol Fixsen and husband Myron of Wabasso, June Kuehn of Redwood Falls, Harlan Welch and wife Marty of Indianapolis, Ind., Dwayne Welch of Vesta, Patricia Steffen and husband Orlo of Mankato, and Susan Como and husband Dean of North Mankato; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sister Virginia Kolsrud of Bloomington.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sons, Gary and Leland; grandsons, Seth and Jordan; two brothers; and two sisters.
She was born May 3, 1910 in Redwood Falls, to Angus and Rosella (Erickson) Johnson. She attended Redwood Falls Schools. She worked at the Redwood County Nursing Home. She married Joseph Welch in Sept. 1933 in Redwood Falls. They lived in Sheridan Township, north of Redwood Falls, where they farmed. They moved to Vesta in 1973, where she helped establish the museum and helped with her son's hardware store. She moved to Lakeside Manor in the early 1990s and had been at Wood Dale Nursing Home four years. She was a member of V.F.W. Auxiliary and Legion Auxiliary and was active in the poppy program. She also helped with the bloodmobile.

Gordon Cunningham, 81, of Hector, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hector, with burial in the city cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Monday.

Gordon Cunningham, 81, of Hector, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector, with burial in the Hector City Cemetery
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
He is survived by his children, Diann Curtis and husband George of Denver, Iowa, Robert Cunningham and wife Lynne of St. James, Donn Cunningham and wife Valerie of Hector. Kathleen Logan of Garland, Texas, Janis Morse and husband Gary of LaSalle, Ill.; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Cunningham of Sleepy Eye.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, parents, son, Gordon Jr., and a sister Dorothy Espenson.
He was born Sept. 2, 1918, in Sleepy Eye to Ray and Lillie (Watchler) Cunningham. He grew up on the family farm near Sleepy Eye and attended district school. Gordon was baptized in the Methodist faith and confirmed on March 29, 1932 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Springfield, and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector at the time of his death.
On Nov. 6, 194 1, Gordon married Anna Wendt at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Springfield. Together they farmed around Sleepy Eye, Springfield and finally Hector. Gordon had been an active member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Council and the Melville Township Board.

Angelia Benson, 97, of St. James and formerly of La Salle, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the La Salle Lutheran Church, with burial in the La Salle Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by a daughter, Ardis and Donald Grotta of Mankato; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, one great great grandson; daughter-in-law Mary Jane Benson of St. James; sone-in-law, DuWayne Hansen of Truman, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, son Kenneth; daughter Joyce; nine sisters and three brothers.
She was born March 28, 1902 in Riverdale Township, Watonwan county to John and Jennie (Chalin) Noren. She married Arthur Benson February 5, 1921 in rural St. James. They farmed near La Salle before moving to town. She was a Sunday school teacher at La Salle Lutheran Church and worked as a cook at Vee's Cafe in La Salle and at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.

Geraldine Halterman, 80, died at her daughter's home in St. James on Sunday, March 19, 2000.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church, St. James.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-10 a.m. on Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home. There will be a memorial service at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa at 10 a.m. on Friday with burial to follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa.
She is survived by five sons William of Waterloo, Iowa, Michael and Ann of Kansas City, MO, Jerry and Kathy of Palermo, Calif., Paul and special friend Chris Von Schmidt of Clearwater, Fla., David and Janet of Cedar Falls, Iowa, two daughters Jackie and Larry Roy of Waterloo, Iowa, and Dawn and Mike Meether of St. James; 24 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband William Halterman, two sons, James and Thomas, a grandson, Michael Verbraken and her parents.
She was born Jan. 6, 1920 in Waverly, Iowa to Simon and Margaret (Birmingham) Koch. She married William J. Halterman on May 1, 1938 in Waterloo, Iowa. She worked in the food industry in Waterloo. After the loss of her husband in 1974, she continued to reside in Waterloo until 1988 when she moved to St. James.

Gary Brueske, 39, 212 Linden St., New Ulm, died Monday, March 20, 2000 at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital, Mankato.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Hanska, with burial in the church cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Thursday.

Maxine Grant, 64, of Madelia, died Sunday, March 19, 2000 at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Madelia.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia.

She is survived by daughter Cindy Lehman and husband Dave of Madelia; son Brian and wife Mary Bachmann of Lake Crystal; six grandchildren; sister Beverly Furber and husband Sam of Pine City; two nieces; and special friend Bill Ripley of Las Vegas, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son Scott.
She was born Jan. 19, 1936 in Madelia, to Kenneth and Evelyn (Burgeson) Kanneman. She grew up in rural Madelia, graduating from Madelia High School in 1954. She married Ray Bachmann in February 1960. They lived in Madelia. She moved to Mankato, where she worked for Carlson Craft for a number of years. She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church, Madelia.

Melvin T. Oswald, 71, of Madelia, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000 at Madelia Community Hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Madelia, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Madelia.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy in 1983.
He was born Dec. 19, 1960 in New Ulm, to LeRoy and Marion (Boelter) Brueske. He grew up in New Ulm, where he attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and New Ulm High School. He served in the U.S. Army, returning to New Ulm in 1979 after he was discharged. He married Sheila Nelson on Nov. 22, 1980 in Hanska. He worked at Dannheim Dairy, Aufderheide Brick and Tile, Gerald Turbes Construction, and the Farmers Coop of Hanska. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

William Herberg, 72, of rural St. Peter, died Monday, March 20, 2000 at Waverly Municipal Hospital, Waverly, Iowa.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Peter, with burial in Greenhill Cemetery, St. Peter.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, and will continue one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
St. Peter Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Irene; sons, William W. and wife Carol of Kasson; daughters, Mary and Carol, both of St. Peter; two grandchildren; a brother Roger and wife Leona of rural St. Peter; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert.
He was born Sept. 10, 1927 in St. Peter, to William and Edna L. (Oldenburg) Herberg. He was a 1945 graduate of St. Peter High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Kansas State University, Manhattan, graduating in 1954. He was a veterinarian. He married Irene A. Baker on June 23, 1956 in Kenyon. He worked as a veterinarian for the USDA, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Veterinary Medical Association, Antique Automobile Club of America and the St. Peter VFW.

Kenneth Nelson, 83, of 300 North Broadway - Broadway House in New Ulm died on Tuesday, March 21, 2000 at the V.A. Hospital in Minneapolis.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Bernadotte Lutheran Cemetery in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Lafayette Color Guard at the cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and one hour prior services at the church on Friday.
He is survived by his wife, Opal, of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Ronald Trebelhorn of Winthrop, Judy and Tom Rieke of Nicollet; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Sue Nelson of Lafayette, Randy and Jerine Nelson of Winthrop; 14 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; step children, Yvonne Tesch of Mankato and her special friend Kenneth Larson, Eileen Holmgren of St. George, Darwin Holmgren and his wife Yvonne of St. Paul, Gary Holmgren of Glencoe, and Darrell Holmgren of New Ulm; ten step grandchildren; ten step great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alvin and Erna Nelson of Lafayette, Morris and Lilah Nelson of Winthrop; sister-in-law, Mabel Nelson of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Glorine (Ruhnow) Nelson in 1975; brothers, Bernard Nelson and Evan Nelson; and a sister, Verna Foster.
He was born Nov. 9, 1916, in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County to Christ and Emily (Munson) Nelson. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1945 during the World War II. After returning from the war he farmed in the Bernadotte area. He married Glorine Ruhnow on Dec. 16, 1951, in New Ulm.
They farmed together until retiring in 1973. They moved into Lafayette in 1975. He later married Opal Holmgren on May 14, 1977 in St. Peter. After their marriage they lived in Lafayette.
He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in New Ulm, a member of the VFW Post 4078 in Winthrop and a past member of Bernadotte Lutheran Church.
