Lena Emelie Oetting, 95, a lifelong resident of the New Ulm area, died April 2, 2000 at the New Ulm Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the New Ulm City Cemetery. Firle Funeral Home of New Ulm is handling the arrangements.
She was born in Courtland Township on May 24, 1904, the daughter of Carl and Anna (Peterl) Oetting. She spent her early childhood on the Oetting family farm east of the city.
Miss Oetting's father died when she was 10. When she was 13, her mother bought the home at 504 South Broadway, which became Lena's residence for 73 years. In 1990, she move to Highland Manor and was a resident of the Oak Hills Living Center at the time of her death.
Miss Oetting graduated from the New Ulm High School. Many New Ulm residents knew her as a sales clerk in a succession of local department stores. She was a 50 year member of the New Ulm Turnverein and an active participant in its functions in her youth. She was a member of the first girl scout troop in New Ulm. She belonged to the former Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in New Ulm and then became a faithful member of the United Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her brother William, and sisters Alma and Bertha. She was a favorite aunt and is survived by Alice Eyrich of St. Paul, Dorothy Anderson of Mission, Texas, Charles Amann of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and William Amann of Gainesville, Florida. She is also survived by several grand nieces and nephews, and special friends Jeanne and Merlyn Boesch of New Ulm.
Memorials can be sent to Firle Funeral Home, and then will be forwarded to the family.

Helen Anderson, 90, of Apple Valley, formerly of Redwood Falls, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, in Apple Valley.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, with burial at Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by daughters, Myrna Stark of Owatonna, Donna and husband Dallas Barnes of Burnsville; Elsie and husband William Scott of Pipestone, and Elna and husband Jerry Rodning of Gaylord; sisters, Elsie McNabb of San Jacinto, Calif., and Elizabeth and husband Alfred Hartwig of Redwood Falls; a brother, Lloyd and wife Shirley Rasmussen of Blufton; seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; by her husband Joe, in June 1962; sisters, Anna Rasmussen, Mamie Balko and Myrtle Callery; a brother, Christian Rasmussen, and a grandson, Thomas Berg.
She was born Nov. 16, 1909 in Morgan to Hans and Christina (Mortonsen) Rasmussen. She lived most of her life in Redwood County, attending Redwood Falls High School until her sophomore year when she had to leave school to help on the family farm. She married Joe Anderson on Feb. 25, 1934 in Redwood Falls. They farmed near Wabasso until 1962 when they retired to Redwood Falls. Joe died soon after, in June 1962.
In 1990 Helen moved to an independent living facility in Apple Valley, where she lived for ten years before moving a month ago to Ebenezer Ridge Care Center.
She had been a member of New Avon Methodist Church in rural Redwood Falls.

Roy Schaefer, 72, of New Ulm died Friday, April 7, 2000 at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
He is survived by his sisters and a brother-in-law, Norma Nontelle of White Bear Lake, and Alice and Ray Brudelie of Hanska; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dick and Marlene Schaefer of Hanska, and Dennis and Cathy Schaefer of Appleton, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Myra Schaefer and Dolores Schaefer, both of New Ulm; a brother-in-law, Bill Gordenier of St. Paul Park; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Erwin O. Schaefer on Oct. 19, 1995, Delbert Schaefer on April 23, 1997; a sister, Elaine Gordenier on June 7, 1984; and a brother-in-law, Leo Nontelle on March 4, 1989.
He was born Jan. 13, 1928 in New Ulm to Otto and Alma (Becker) Schaefer. He graduated from New Ulm High School. He had worked for Western Union in Steven's Point, Wis. as a relief operator and had traveled for the company. He had lived in New Ulm before becoming a resident of the nursing home. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Marvin 'Mall' Ellanson, 78, of St. James, formerly of Hanska, died Thursday, April 6, 2000 at his home in St. James.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Linden Lutheran Church, rural Hanska, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Monday at Linden Lutheran Church.
He is survived by brothers, Arthur and wife Linnea of Glencoe and Arnold and wife Lorraine of Lake Crystal; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Ellanson of Lake Crystal, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Clara, Mabel, and Pearl Sandberg; and brothers, Hans and Alvin Ellanson.
He was born June 5, 1921 in Linden Township to Albert and Mary (Throldahl) Ellanson. He attended rural school in Linden Township. He helped the family farm in the 1930s. On June 18, 1942, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in the Military Police until his discharge in Australia on Dec. 31, 1945. He returned to the area and worked at Toro in Windom, the micrometer plant in St. James, and Woodrich construction, where he worked for many years in Minnesota, Iowa and North and South Dakota until he retired. He belonged to VFW Post 1914 in St. James.

Alice Dannheim, 87, of 914 Summit Ave., New Ulm, died Sunday, April 9.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Survivors include her son, Gerald Dannheim and his wife Charlene of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Ordele Boock of New Ulm; nieces, Kathy Isensee and her husband Jerry of Plymouth, Paulette Hultgren and her husband Dale of Minneapolis; nephews, Bradley Boock and his wife Jean of Glencoe, Bruce Boock of Ankeny, Iowa; and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 1999; an infant daughter; brothers, Walter, Irvin, and Elmer Boock; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Dannheim, Helen Anderson and Lyla (Babel) Boock.
She was born Nov. 17, 1912, in New Ulm to Otto and Laura (Kuester) Boock, She attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1931. She worked as a bookkeeper for Pink's Department Store in New Ulm. She married Donald Dannheim on Sept. 14, 1937, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. They lived in New Ulm where they owned and operated Dannheim's Kuhstall. She was a member of St. Paul"s Evangelical Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid; Hospital Auxiliary; Junior Pioneers; Brown County Historical Society; Hub Club; and New Ulm Country Club. She was a long-time member of Cordettes Bowling League and the New Ulm Chapter of Women's International Bowling Congress. She was elected to the Bowling Hall of Fame in 1993. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Virgil Stark, 75, of Springfield, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at Springfield Medical Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Springfield with burial in Springfield City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, 7:30-9 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, and at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Hillary Tanke of Norwood-Young America and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice in 1976, and brothers Marvin and Lyle.
He was born March 27, 1925, in Springfield to Albert and Elsie (Kleinschmidt) Stark. He married Alice Wilt in 1962 in Lamberton, and the couple farmed in Stately Township. He retired from farming in 1985, moving to Springfield. He moved to Comfrey in 1991, then back to Springfield in 1998. He was a professional trapper and member of the United Methodist Church in Springfield.

Everil 'Bobby' Reimer, 63, of Arlington, formerly of Gaylord, died on Saturday, April 8, 2000, at High Island Residence in Arlington.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Arlington with burial in Gaylord City Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Fenske Funeral Home in Arlington and at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his mother, Florine Reimer of Gaylord; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Charles Perrault of Apple Valley; and brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Linda Reimer of Gaylord.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He was born March 11, 1937, in Gaylord to Everil and Florine Walter Reimer. He had been a resident of the Highland Creek Residence for the past 20 years.

Marie Deml, 88, of 419 S. Jefferson, in New Ulm died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at Oak Hills Living Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She is survived by her sisters, Genevieve Owens of Red Springs, N.C., Ruth Mishoe of Conway, S.S., Eloise Myrick of Lakeland, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Retta Gales of Montclair, Va., and Rose Deml of New Ulm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norbert Deml on Jan., 3, 2000; sisters and brothers-in-law, Franceena and Maurice Wall, Eunice and David Blankenship; and brothers and sister-in-law, James "J.C." and Betty Gales, and Archie Gales.
She was born on Nov. 11, 1911, in Marion, S.C., to Archie Baldwin and Anna Victoria (Wilhalf) Gales. She graduated from high school in Marion. She worked as a telephone operator in Marion, and later in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She married Norbert Deml on Dec. 10, 1943, in Florence, S.C. They lived in New Ulm. She was a member of St.Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm.

Emma Anderson, 100 of Belview, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Parkview Home in Belview.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday, at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview with burial in the Belview Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home in Echo and continues Thursday one hour prior to services at the church. T here will be a prayer service Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Alton and Lois Anderson of Inver Grove Heights and Tyrone, N.M.; daughters and sons-in-law, Lorraine and Vernon Pederson of Hastins, Doris and Eldred Rockman of Luverne; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and sister, Bertha Hanks of Parkview Home, Belview.
She was preceded in death by parents; husbnad, Edward; grandson, Dale Pederson; brothers, Edwin, Albert; and sisters, Anna Hirsch, Martha Gauthun, Ellen Monson, Ida Hagen and Evelyn Turner.
She was born Nov. 11, 1899, in Kintire Township, Redwood County, to Andrew M. and Eline Rake (Rachie) Monson. She graduated from Belview High School in 1917. She taught in rural schools in North Dakota. On Nov. 12, 1921, she married Edward 0. Anderson in Belview. They farmed in Vesta Township until Edward' s death on June 11, 1984. She moved to Belview in 1986. She belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church until it merged with the Grace Lutheran Church. Her church activities included Ladies Aid, teaching Sunday School, and belonging to circles. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Vesta and Belview, and she held several offices. She received a 75-year membership plaque from the Legion Auxiliary on Feb. 12, 1997. She was a 4-H leader and was active in Extension Club and the Vesta Museum.

Violet 'Vi' Knudsen, 85, of 305 S. Franklin in New Ulm, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Divine Providence Home in Sleepy Eye.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Wednesday at United Church of Christ in New Ulm with burial in the City Cemetery.
Visitation is 8:30-10 a.m. Wednesday at United Church of Christ in New Ulm. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Knudsen Besse of New Ulm; granddaughters, Carli Besse Lindemann and her husband Jeff of New Ulm, and Heather Besse of St. Paul.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur Morton Knudsen on Dec. 16, 1989; sister, Minnie Wolf; and brothers, Richard and George Nicholls.
She was born on March 18, 1915 in Rochester, N.Y, to Richard and Minnie (Downy) Nicholls. She attended school in Rochester, N.Y. She screened letters to the servicemen for the United States government during World War II. She worked for the office at Price Administration and as a telephone operator. She married Wilbur Morton Knudsen on Dec. 16, 1946 at Raytown, Mo. They lived on a farm in Lee's Summit, Mo., until 1990, when she moved to New Ulm. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in New Ulm.

Henry Wacker, 88, formerly of New Ulm died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services are 12 noon Thursday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and continues 7:30-9 a.m. Thursday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and one hour before the service Thursday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Erma Wacker of Sleepy Eye; daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Sheldon Pearse of Hanska; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Sherri Wacker of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Wendt of Rhinelander, Wis., and Della Hopman of Fairfax.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son; a daughter; a grandson;four brothers; and three sisters.
He was born July 12, 1911, in rural St. James to Henry Sr. and Marie (Hebel) Wacker. He attended school in rural St. James. In the early 1930s he was in the Civil Conservation Corps Camp (CCC Camp)for several years, working in the Two Harbors area. On June 10, 1937, he married Erma Hamann at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. They farmed north of Fairfax until moving to a farm near Courtland. In the early 1980s they retired from farming and moved to New Ulm. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the building committee in the early years of the church.
