Hazel Olson, 91, of Madelia, formerly of LaSalle, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at LaSalle Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Phyllis Hansen, 74, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000 at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with private burial in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
There is no visitation, but there will be lunch and fellowship in the St. Mary's Church social room following the burial on Friday.
Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.
Memorials are preferred to Sleepy Eye Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Charles "Chisey"; daughter Jan and husband Rod O'Marron of New Ulm; sons, Craig and wife Linda, Scott and wife Deb, all of Sleepy Eye; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Ethel and husband Ed Krzmarzick of Sleepy Eye.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Norma Judge.
She was born Nov. 17, 1925, in Sleepy Eye, to Henry and Elsie (Dohrmann) George. She grew up in Sleepy Eye and graduated from Sleepy Eye Public High School in 1943. She married Chisey Hansen on Nov. 8, 1947 in Sleepy Eye.
Doug Olson, 59, of Lester Prairie, died Thursday, May 18, 2000 at his home,
A private, family service was held at Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel, Lester Prairie, with burial in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Watertown.
He is survived by his wife, Joni; children, Eric Olson of Winthrop, Lynn Badrul Haimi and husband Budda Bakar of Eagan, and Jake Motzko of Eden Prairie; two grandchildren; mother Dorothy Swedeen; sisters, Kathleen Olson of Minneapolis, Karen and husband Zev Aelony of Minneapolis, and Sandy Olson of Forest Lake; mother-in-law, Jean Motzko of Watertown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arnold; brother, Philip; nephew, Yale Griffin; and father-in-law, Gordon Motzko.
He was born June 12, 1940, in Cambridge to Arnold and Dorothy (Paulson) Olson. He graduated from Cambridge High School and the University of Minnesota and attended William Mitchell Law School. The couple owned Jonio's Restaurant in Gaylord, Winthrop and Sleepy Eye before going into business in Lester Prairie.
Owen Langlie, 83, of North Mankato, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at Lake Crystal Health Care Center.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with burial in Woodland Hills Memorial Park.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and at the church Wednesday, one hour prior to the service.
Woodland Hills Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Alice of North Mankato; daughters and sons-in-law, Gladys and Lynn Adams of Barrett, Connie and Martin Christianson of Lake Crystal, and Janet and Wesley Goff of North Mankato; daughter-in-law, Joan Langlie of North Mankato; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Arthur, of North Mankato; sister and brother-in-law, Claire and Roger Luskey of Inver Grove Heights; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David.
He was born Sept. 1, 1916, in Long Prairie to Clarence and Gunda (Bjerkaas) Langlie. He attended school in Long Prairie. He married Alice Kloppman on June 7, 1942 at Mankato. They farmed near North Mankato. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He also belonged to National Farmers Organization and Wonder Life Organic Farming.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Wayne; daughter, Wanda; brothers, Oscar and Clifford; two grandsons; and one great granddaughter.
She was born Oct. 16, 1908, in Riverdale Township, Watonwan County, to Hakon and Anna (Olson) Evjen. She grew up in Riverdale Township, attended rural District 49 school and Madelia High School, graduating in 1925. She attended the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture, graduating in 1926. She married Oliver Olson on June 30, 1927 in rural Hanska. They lived in LaSalle until 1946 when they began farming in rural Madelia. They lived there until 1980, when they returned to LaSalle. She moved to Luther Memorial Home in 1997. She was a member of LaSalle Lutheran Church and WELCA, and was active in Town and Country Extension Club.
Ella Friedrich, 95, of Morgan, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000 at Gil-Mor Manor, Morgan.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Morgan, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Nelson Funeral Home, Morgan, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and will continue one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
She is survived by son Gale and wife Pat of New Hope; son-in-law Donald Tonak of Clark, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother Edwin Hasse of Nicollet; and sister Agnes Ziegenhagen of Morgan.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son Dennis; daughter Eunice Tonak; five brothers; and three sisters.
She was born April 17, 1905 in Eden Township, Brown County, to Herman and Emilie (Struck) Hasse. She lived in Eden Township and attended District 34 country schools. She married Alfred Friedrich on April 22, 1931 in Eden Township. They lived in Morgan. She worked for the Redwood County Telephone Company, Morgan, as a telephone operator from 1956 until retiring in 1972. She moved to Gil-Mor Manor in 1996. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Wayne Peters, 77, 203 N. Franklin St., died Friday, May 26, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, New Ulm, with burial in the city cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by New Ulm veteran's organizations.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Jarod Thorson, 12, of Cambria, died Friday, May 26, 2000 at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, from injuries sustained following a bicycle/motor home accident Wednesday afternoon.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Nicollet, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. A parish prayer service will be be 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Harold Maidl, 76, of 607 N. Broadway, New Ulm, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm, with burial in the City Cemetery, Soldiers Rest Section. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by New Ulm veterans organizations.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Delila, of New Ulm; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Gordon Bushard of New Ulm; a daughter, Lori Oropeza of New Ulm; a son, Gary Maidl of New Ulm; grandchildren; sisters, Hildegarde Maidl of Lafayette and Dolores Preisinger of New Ulm; brothers and sisters-in-law Herb and Edna Maidl and Clarence and Betty Maidl, all of Lafayett; a brother, Leo Maidl of Lafayette, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ted and Barb Asmus of New Ulm; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Victor Maidl; a sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Albert Swenson; and by a brother-in-law, Henry Preisinger.
He was born Dec. 18, 1923, in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County, to Joseph and Bertha (Schaeffler) Maidl. He attended school in Lafayette and then in New Ulm. He had served as a T/5 Corporal in the U. S. Occupation Army in Japan after WWII. He was discharged from Fort Lewis in October 1947. He married Delila Asmus on May 25, 1955, in New Ulm. They lived in Klossner where he was employed as manager of the Golden Rule Ballroom (now known as the Klossner House) for five years, before moving to New Ulm in 1960. He was the bar manager for the V.F.W. and then for the American Legion, New Ulm, before going to work for Bordens (now known as Firmenich) in New Ulm. He worked there for seventeen years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, a lifetime member of the Albert Nagel V.F.W. Post 1648, New Ulm and a member of the Seifert Bianchi American Legion Post 132, New Ulm.
Wayne Peters, 77, 203 N. Franklin St., died Friday at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester after a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, New Ulm. Burial with full military honors conducted by New Ulm veteran's organizations, will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm and at the chruch, one hour prior to the service.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Kathy Peters of Nicollet; daughters and son-in-law, Lida and Carl Rolloff, Lynn Peters, and Christine Peters of New Ulm, and Catherine Peters of Plymouth; five grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Jane Luke of Springfield and Hazel Friederichs of Gaylord; two brothers-in-law, DeWayne Grev of Mountain Lake and Clarence Groehler of Sleepy Eye, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, a sister, Dorothy Grev, brother Claude Peters, two half brothers, Jerry and Earl Luke; and a half-sister, Pearl Stolt.
He was born August 3, 1922 to P.H. and Catherine Peters in Fairfax. He served in the Army in World War II. He married Ruth Friederichs on Dec. 19, 1943 in Glencoe. He worked for New Ulm Wholesale for 37 years as a salesman in southern Minnesota. He was a volunteer driver for the Brown County Heartland Program after retiring. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion and performed with the New Ulm Legion Drill Team during the 1940s and 1950, attending state and national competitions.
Donald Engel, 74, of Sioux Falls, S. D., formerly of New Ulm, died December 19, 1999, at their winter home in Yuma, Arizona.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2000, at the Lutheran Cemetery, New Ulm. A luncheon will follow the service at the home of his nephew, Paul Fleischer, 710 4th Ave S.W., Sleepy Eye. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, New Ulm, is in charge of local arrangements.
Donald is survived by his wife, Beverly Engel, of Sioux Falls; sons, Paul Engel of San Diego, Calif., and William Engel of New York City; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Joseph Ubl of Albert Lea; step sons, Greg Huffman and Clark Huffman; step-daughter, Kathy Merritt; a brother, Delphin Engel, of Brandon; sisters, Erma Reiss of Lake Crystal, and Alice Schleicher of Ripon, Wisc.; and grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Arlene; an infant daughter, Emily; a brother, Clemens.
He was born on February 23, 1925, in Amboy, to Paul and Lydia (nee Schwartz) Engel. He graduated in 1943 from the Martin Luther Academy in New Ulm. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After the war he co-owned and operated Fischer Auto in New Ulm. He married Arlene Fischer on May 1, 1949, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Ulm. She died May 15, 1995. He married Beverly Baker in Sioux Falls. They retired and lived in Sioux Falls during the summer and in Yuma, Arizona during the winter.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Orland and Eyvonne Thorson; step grandmother Ina Thorson; and uncle Dean A. Thorson.
He was born August 10, 1987, in New Ulm to Noel and Colette (Dorn) Thorson. He was in sixth grade at Washington Elementary School in New Ulm. He was an alter server at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nicollet.
