Helen Witte, 82, of St. James, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at Eventide Home in Mountain Lake.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, St. James, with burial at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
She is survived by stepsons Gerald and June Witte of Butterfield and Dennis and Candace Witte of St. Peter; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arthur in 1992, stepsons Elroy and Marlan Witte, and one brother.
She was born June 17, 1917 in Lakeville. She married Arthur Witte July 22, 1950 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The couple moved to St. James.

Richard Bennett, 67, of Morgan, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at Redwood Falls Hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. at Nelson Funeral Home in Morgan. Burial with military honors will be Friday at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He is survived by two sons, Richard E. Bennett Jr., of Butte, Mont. and Richard A. Bennett of Morgan; five grandchildren, a sister, Barbara and Bill Perkins of Miami Springs, Fla.; and a brother, Gene and Dorothy of Sacramento, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim.
He was born July 16, 1932, at Red Wing to James R. and Mildred L. (Lyda) Bennett. He served with the Army in the Korean War and later with the Air Force, retiring after 30 years of service in the early 1980s. At one time, he was married to Lavon Carlson. He lived in Butte, Mont. until the last four years when he moved to Morgan.

Sylvester Seifert, 88, of Sleepy Eye, died on Saturday, May 27, 2000, at his home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Irene of Sleepy Eye; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Doug Halvorson of North Mankato, and Cindy and John Nelson of New Ulm; three grandchildren,; brothers and sisters-in-law, Art and Arlene Seifert of Sleepy Eye, and Stanley and Pat Seifert of Sleepy Eye; sisters and brothers-in-law, Luella and Michael Kuelbs of Sleepy Eye, Delores and Vic Vickers of Texas, and Violet Barsness of Mankato; sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Bernetta Seifert, both of California.
He was born March 5, 1912, to Henry and Emma (Hillesheim) in Stewart. He married Irene Sellner on Oct. 28, 1947, in Sleepy Eye. The couple farmed in Prairieville Township until 1984. They moved to Sleepy Eye in 1995.

Donald Augustin, 77, of Springfield, died Sunday at Redwood Falls Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Japanese Martyrs, Leavenworth, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. A combined Knights of Columbus and Holy Family Society rosary will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Springfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Judy Augustin of Comfrey, Kevin and Phyllis Augustin of Sleepy Eye; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Rodney Newman of Bloomington; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, sister, Marie Jensen of Glenwood; and brother and sister-in-law, Francis (Pat) and Millie Augustin of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Cyrilla and husband Leander Loreis; Germaine Lang and husband Norbert; and brother-in-law Alton Jensen.
He was born Sept. 12, 1922, in Mulligan Township to Frank and Ella (Cady) Augustin. He married Sylvia Helget on June 5, 1945, in Sleepy Eye. They farmed in Mulligan Township. They operated a family butchering business. He belonged to Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth where he served on the council, served as lector and sang in the choir. He belonged to the Knight of Columbus. He was a member Holy Family Society of the Catholic Aid Association where he served as financial secretary. He received the Bishop's Medal of Service and Community Award from the Holy Family Society. He played baseball with Mulligan and Leavenworth.

Harlan Evan Bowen. A memorial service for Harlan Evan Bowen, who died Jan. 12, 2000, in Fredericksburg, Texas, is 2 p.m. today at Cambria Presbyterian Church in Cambria.
He was born and grew up in Cambria Township. He graduated from New Ulm High School in 1944.

Oliva Stindt Hinnenthal, 84, of Minnetonka, died Saturday, May 27, 2000.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Timothy Lutheran Church, St. Louis Park, with burial at 3 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at David Lee Funeral Home, Wayzata and at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements are handled by David Lee Funeral Home.
She is survived by children and their spouses, Sue Eaton and John of Lake Mills, Wis., Jane Koepsell and Tom of Oshkosh, Wis., John Hinnenthal and JoAnn of Wayzata, Karen Proeber and Ken of Milwaukee; Wis.; 11 grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by husband, Arthur in 1985; and brothers, Wally and Edmund
She was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Lewiston to Albert and Alma Stindt. She was a graduate of Dr. Martin Luther College and taught in several Minnesota Lutheran elementary schools.

Avis Larson, 79, of Springfield, formerly of Westbrook, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at Methodist Hospital, Rochester.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Springfield, with burial at 2 p.m. Thursday at Westbrook City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 a.m.-9 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Chapel, Springfield, and continues at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Janis Larson of Springfield, Dallas and Patricia Larson of Lakeville; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and John Leroux of Shakopee; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Lavan Stewart of Albert Lea, Eldora Comnick of Worthington; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin "Bud" in 1990; and a brother, Clair Peterson.
She was born July 21, 1920 in Storden to Adolph and Elda (Jacobsen) Peterson. She graduated from Windom High School in 1938. She married Melvin Larson on Feb. 14, 1940, in Storden. They farmed in Storden Township until 1981 when they moved to Westbrook. She was a World Book salesperson. She became a resident of Springfield Riverview Homestead in December 1994 and served on its board of directors. She was a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden, Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Springfield.

Harold Thompson, 74, of Lake Crystal died Sunday, May 28, 2000 at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lake Crystal, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Crystal Mortuary with a 4 p.m. prayer service; and continues one hour before services Thursday at the church.
He is survived by his wife Genevieve of Lake Crystal; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Peggy Thompson of Lake Crystal; daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Jack Rupert of New Ulm, Diane and Mark Gray of St. Bonifacius; six grandchildren; brothers, Ellis Thompson, Miles and wife Eleanor, all of St. Peter; brother-in-law, Charles and Jean Schmidt of Garden City, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
He was born Dec. 6, 1925, to Frank and Nora (Braden) Thompson in Lake Prairie Township, Nicollet County. He attended rural school. He farmed with his father, worked for Standard Lumber in Kasota and North Mankato. He also owned a gas delivery route. He married Genevieve Schmidt on June 14, 1948, in Lake Crystal. They farmed near St. Peter and Lake Crystal before moving to Lake Crystal in 1984. He owned and operated Thompson Roofing, worked for James Hardware. He owned and operated Harold's Repair Shop in Lake Crystal. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was president of its men's club. He was a 4-H Club leader.
Memorials are preferred to chiropractic care research, Holy Family Catholic Church, or an organization of the donor's choice.

Genevieve Eichten, 88, of Sleepy Eye died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue one hour before the service Thursday at the church. There will be a rosary by the Christian Mothers of St. Andrew's Catholic Church (Fairfax) at 4:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at funeral home in New Ulm.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Constance and Harvey Tautges of rural Gibbon; sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley and Agnes Eichten of Mankato, Gerald and Cathleen Eichten of Wabasso, Stephen and Marlene Eichten of Hutchinson; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Theresa Benson of Brainerd; brother and sister-in-law, LuVern and Monica Hahn of Marshall; and sister-in-law, Germaine Hahn of New Ulm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond W. Eichten on April 20, 1995; brothers, Cyrillius Hahn and Virgil Hahn; brother-in-law, Gorden Benson; two grandsons; and one granddaughter.
She was born on Nov. 24, 1911, in Clements to Valentine and Julia (Groebner) Hahn. She married Raymond W. Eichten on April 24, 1935 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso.They farmed near Vesta and Wanda until 1947 when they purchased the Eichten Fairway General Store in Wanda, which they operated until 1958. They then moved to Fairfax, and they worked at the Municipal Liquor Store in Fairfax until 1974 when they retired. In 1989 they moved to the Countryside Apartments in Sleepy Eye. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax; Christian Mothers and C.C.W.

Willmer Schwarzrock, 77, of Gaylord, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at Arlington Municipal Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Gaylord, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Fenske Family Funeral Home, Gaylord, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Friday.
He is survived by his brother, Melford and wife Leona of Gaylord; sister-in-law, Alice of Brownton; sister, Valeria Johnson of Park Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leonhard; and a sister in infancy.
He was born March 12, 1923, in Round Grove Township, rural Brownton, to Albert F. and Erna G. (Redmann) Schwarzrock. He attended District 37 schools in Round Grove Township. He farmed with his brother and sister-in-law Melford and Leona until retiring in 1985. He was supervisor of Dryden Township for 25 years and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Gaylord.

Harry Gareis, 96, of New Ulm, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Fairfax Community Home.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour before the service Friday at the church.
He is survived by daughter, Jane Bode of New Ulm; son and daughter-in-law, John and Erika Gareis of Germany; grandchildren, Lisa Christensen and her husband, Brett, Nicole Linback and her husband, Scott; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy Gareis in 1968; his second wife, Esther Gareis in 1999; and three brothers and two sisters.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1904, in Milford Township, Brown County, to John, Jr. and Alma (Krause) Gareis. He graduated from New Ulm Public High School and attended Commercial College in Mankato. He worked at Wagner Hardware in New Ulm in the 1930s. He married Dorothy Fritsche in 1936. From 1941 to 1968 he farmed the home farm in Milford Township, Brown County. On April 12, 1969, he married Esther Current Traver. They moved to New Ulm in the 1970s, and in 1996 they moved to the Country View Estates in Fairfax. He became a resident of the Fairfax Community Home in 1998. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm and was a member of the men's choir at church.

Elinor Kerber, 95, of Gaylord, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Gaylord, with burial in St. Huber's Catholic Cemetery, Chanhassen.
Visitation is 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Fenske Funeral Home, Gaylord, was in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by daughters, Maxine S. Zellmann of Gaylord and Emma S. "Lou" and husband Winfree L. Brown of Texas; step-sons, Walter and wife Patricia Kerber of Winsted, and Harry and wife Kathleen Kerber of Vermont; step-son-in-law, Virgil and wife Pat Seifert of Eden Prairie; brother, Jerome C. and wife Hazel Wendt of Chanhassen; sister-in-law, Mildred Wendt of Spring Park; 25 grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Seamans in 1968, Charles Kerber in 1986; stepdaughter Laura Mae Seifert; great-grandson Daniel Wendt Walker; brother, Howard C. Wendt; and sisters, Harriet Howard and Ruth Wendt.
She was born March 25, 1905, in Dougherty, Iowa, to Carl F. and Anna (Anhalt) Wendt. She graduated from Becker High School in 1921, and attended St. Cloud Teachers College. She taught in rural schools and public schools in Excelsior. She married Raymond Seamans on Feb. 14, 1931, in Excelsior. She married Charles Kerber on Aug. 28, 1970 in Excelsior. She lived in Excelsior and Chanhassen. She moved to Gaylord in 1994.
