Richard Schneider, 88, of Anoka, formerly of New Ulm, died May 21, 2000, at Anoka Good Samaritan Center.
Services were May 24 at Advent Lutheran Church, Anoka, with burial in Forest HIll Cemetery, Anoka.
He is survived by his wife, Stella; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Lester Gregory of Princeton; sons and daughter-in-law, David and Patricia Schneider of Oak Grove; Edward and Sandra Schneider of Anoka; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Hazel Schneider of New Ulm; sisters, Evelyn Michalets of New Ulm and Marion Huesman of Albert Lea; sister-in-law, Josephine Schneider of Nebraska; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers George and James Schneider.
He was born Nov. 21, 1911, in New Ulm to August and Josephine (Haag) Schneider. He drove a truck for Pietrus Produce of Sleepy Eye. He also transported Brown County veterans to the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis.

Lois Laingen, 72, of St. James, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Pease Funeral Home, St. James, with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Odin.
Visitation is one hour before the service Monday at the funeral home.
She is survived by an uncle, and nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She was born March 9, 1928, in St. James, to Vern and Freda (Kading) Beck. She graduated from St. James High School. She married Kenton Laingen on Dec. 5, 1946. They lived in Sherburn before moving to New Ulm where she was the women's editor of the New Ulm Daily Journal. In 1966, they moved to Alexandria where she worked for the Douglas County treasurer's office. Her husband died in 1977, and she moved to New Ulm in 1978. She bought the Hobby House craft store in St. James in 1982 and operated it until 1998. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. James.

Harlan Olson, 65, or rural Willmar died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, near Long Prairie.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church, Willmar, with burial in Stockholm Lutheran Cemetery, Cokato.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home, Willmar, and will continue one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Michael and wife Maurine of Sartell, and Brian and wife Kay of Watertown, S.D.; one grandson; sisters, Gloria and husband Wallace Woods of Independence, Mo., and Francis and husband Jerry Dickson of Mesa, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Teresa.
He was born Aug. 5, 1934, in Sunburg, to Curtis and Ella (Kittleson) Olson. He attended school in Sunburg and Kerkhoven. He moved to Cokato in 1951. He married Mavis Severson on Sept. 17, 1955, in Cokato. They lived in Cokato until 1961, when they moved to Mountain Lake, where he worked as a John Deere salesman. They moved to Willmar in 1966, where he continued to work for John Deere. In 1972, he began working as a salesman for Hanson Silo, working in the New Ulm area. He retired in 1997. They operated Belle Shore Acres Resort on Lake Belle-Taine, near Nevis, from 1980-1989. Following retirement, he worked part-time for West Central Inc. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, serving on the council and as usher coordinator. He served as chairman of the Dovre Township Board for 18 years.

Leo Pelzel, 91, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at home.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-9 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a K.C. and C.O.F. service at 4 p.m. Sunday and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
He is survived by sons, Robert and wife Mercedes, Jeffrey and wife Susan, and Douglas and wife Marlene, all of Sleepy Eye; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brothers, Erwin and Melvin of Sleepy Eye, and Ben of Ludlow, Vt.; sisters, Leona (Braun) Lowinske of Sleepy Eye, Irene Meyer of Roswell, N.M., Marion Muller of Marshall, Mo., and Lorraine Tauer of Morgan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emma in 1994; daughters, Mary Ebenhoh in 1985, Barbara in infancy; one great-grandson; brothers, Roman, Edward, and Arthur; and sister Lucille Helget.
He was born June 17, 1908,in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, to Clement and Augusta (Engel) Pelzel. He worked on the family farm. He married Emma Rothmeier on Sept. 21, 1931, in Sleepy Eye. They lived in Albin Township for three years before moving to Leavenworth Township, where they farmed for 50 years. They retired and moved to Sleepy Eye in 1983. He moved to Countryside Apartments in 1998. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, and Eagles Club. He received the C.O.F. 75-year pin in 1999. He was the Sleepy Eye city weed inspector for many years.

Robert Herschman, 67, of Camano Island, Wash., died Saturday, May 13, 2000 at home, following an illness.
He is buried in Camano Pioneer Cemetery, Camano Island.
Memorials may be made to Skagit Valley Kidney Center, Mount Vernon, Wash.; Hospice of Snohomish County, Everett, Wash.; or St. Cecelia Catholic Church building fund, Stanwood, Wash.
He is survived by his wife Irita; daughter Rebecca Hubbard-Sharratt and husband Paul of Meridian, Idaho; sons, Frederick Hubbard and wife Sheila of Everett, Wash., Gregory Herschman of Camano Island, Robert Herschman of Dryden, Ontario, Daniel Herschman and wife Jackualine of St. Paul, and Scot and wife Tiffany of Glendale, Ariz.; sisters, Rita Keckeisen and husband Walter of New Ulm, Shirley Fenske of New Ulm, and Barbara Keske and husband Steve of Brownton; brothers, Richard and wife Helen of Waseca, Charles and wife Rita of Gibbon, and Bruce of Gibbon; nine grandchildren; aunt Hazel Pueser of New Ulm; uncle Clayton Evenson of Gibbon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born March 30, 1933 in Gibbon, to Raymond and Gladys Herschman. He farmed on the family farm until he was 18, when he moved to South Dakota and farmed. He entered the United States Air Force Jan. 18, 1952, serving 11 months in Korea before being stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, until his discharge in January 1956. He returned to Minnesota, where he worked at Ford Motor Company in New Ulm until 1963. He moved to Redfield, S.D., where he operated a Sears catalog store and worked for Wilson Brothers Trucking. He married Irita Cleberg Hubbard in December 1975. They lived in Aberdeen, S.D. He moved to Washington in 1977, settling on Camano Island. He worked for Twin City Foods in the summers in the 1970s and 80s. He worked for Williams Farms between 1979 and 1997. He was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church, the VFW post, Redfield, S.D., and worked with the Boy Scouts on Camano Island for 12 years.

Clifford Evenson, 95, of Lake Crystal, died Thursday, June 1, 2000 at home.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Butternut, with burial and full military honors in Butternut Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Monday at Lake Crystal Mortuary, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.
He is survived by his wife Lucille "Fritzie"; daughters, Gloria Klinkner and husband Gary of New Ulm, Nancy Sorgatz and husband Burt of Elmore, and Mary Oswald of Minnetonka; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; step-son Richard Nielsen and wife Bonnie of Custer, Wisc.; step-daughters, Barbara Ramsey of Middleton, Wisc., Judith Nemo and husband Joe of St. Paul, and Joyce Olson of Shakopee.
He was preceded in death by his wife Iris; brother Tollie; and sister Gydia Marsteen.
He was born March 16, 1905 in Butternut Valley Township, Blue Earth County, to Thomas and Louise (Thorstad) Evenson. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-1945. He married Iris McCall on Feb. 14, 1946 in Lake Crystal. She died in 1960. he married Lucille "Fritzie" Wussow on Sept. 27, 1967 in Estherville, Iowa. he farmed the family farm in Butternut Township for many years before retiring and moving into Lake Crystal. He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Butternut, where he served as trustee and usher. He was a member of John Roth American Legion Post, and a former member of the Moose Lodge.

Elvin Sonnabend, 80, of Butterfield, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000 at Good Samaritan Village, Mountain Lake.
Services are 3 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Butterfield, with burial in the city cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Monday.
He is survived by his wife Alice; children, Glen and wife Rhonda of Battle Mountain, Nev., Linda and husband Dwain Swenson of Yankton, S.D., and Keith and wife Pat of North Falmouth, Mass.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Erma Larson of Lead, S.D., and Alice Willis of St. James; brothers, Anton of St. James, Norbert of New Ulm, and Harvey and wife Louella of St. James; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arnold and Harold; and sister Jeanette.
He was born May 18, 1920 in St. Peter, to Herman and Bertha (Tribesch) Sonnabend. In 1925, they moved to the South Branch area, where he attended country school. He married Alice Patient on Aug. 20, 1940 in Estherville, Iowa. They lived near Butterfield, where they raised turkeys. In 1976, they retired and moved into Butterfield. He worked part-time for the City of Butterfield.

Louis Elmer Wolter, 71, of Arlington, died Thursday, June 1, 2000 at Arlington Municipal Hospital.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Arlington, with burial in the city cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 8-11 a.m. Monday at Fenske Funeral Home, Arlington, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Monday. There will be a prayer service 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife Joan; sons, Randy and wife Elaine, and Robert, all of Arlington; daughter Susan and special friend Joe Mielke; sisters, Mae Luedloff of Norwood, and Delores and husband Tom Dressel of Glencoe; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Kenneth; sister Pearl; and brothers-in-law, Earl Luedloff, Alden Bulau, and Chester Bulau.
He was born Jan. 17, 1929 in Hancock Township, Carver County, to Elmer and Amanda (Riebe) Wolter. He attended country school in Hancock Township. He married Joan Bulau on May 22, 1960 in Bismarck Township, Sibley County. he farmed until retirement in 1986, when the family moved to Arlington. He also drove a truck.

Marlys Melberg, 47, died Thursday, June 1, 2000 at the scene of a motor vehicle accident near St. Cloud.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church in Hector with burial in the Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 5 to 9 p.m. at the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
She is survived by her husband David Melberg of Hector and children Andrea Melberg of St. Paul, Brett Melberg of St. Cloud and her sister Lorraine Hintze of Hector.
She is also survived by her brothers Richard Joan Toren and of Olivia, Gary and Karen Toren of Bird Island and by her nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Jon Hintze.
She was born August 19, 1952 in Olivia to Harry and Adeline (Degner) Toren. She grew up in Melville Township north of Bird Island and she graduated from Bird Island High School in 1970 and also graduated from Cosmetology School in St. Cloud.
She married David Robert Melberg August 25, 1973 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bird Island. The couple lived and farmed in Hector Township. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Hector.

Mathilda "Tillie" Gillick, 82, of Ridgeway on German, died Thursday, June 1, 2000 at New Ulm Medical Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Ulm, with burial in the city cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, New Ulm. The St. Anne's Court, N.C.S.F. will pray the rosary at 6 p.m. and there will be a parish prayer service 7 p.m., both today at the funeral home.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Curt Brand of New Ulm, Polly Bipes of Hutchinson, Mary Jo and Tony Weber of Nicollet, Sandee and Bill Fritz of Coral Springs, Fla., and Ruth and Don Tessmer of Coon Rapids; a son Roger Gillick of Arlington, Texas; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law Pete and Evelyn Kockelman of Fairfax; sisters-in-law, Julia Kockleman of St. Paul and Eileen Kockleman of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William on Sept. 16, 1984; a daughter Charlotte Thunstrom on March 27, 1997; a son Richard on Jan. 18, 2000; sisters, her twin Bridget Church, Agatha Byrne, Rosanne Polfuss, and Kristine Kack; and brothers, Joseph, Roman, and Norbert Kockelman.
She was born March 23, 1918 in St. Leo, to Matthew and Katherine (Schommer) Kockelman. She married William P. Gillick on Sept. 23, 1941 in Taunton. After marriage they farmed in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, for 18 years, and then moved into New Ulm in 1964. She worked at Tony Downs, Madelia. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, New Ulm, St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Ulm, and St. Anne's Court N.C.S.F., New Ulm.

Oliver Kjelshus, 88, of Hanska, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Madelia Community Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Linden Lutheran Church in rural Hanksa with burial in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Hanska.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Firle Funeral Home in Hanska and one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the church.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Darwyn Johnson of Prior Lake; son and daughter-in-law, Orlin and Leah Kjelshus of Hanksa; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Sylvia Pearse of Hanska; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle; brothers, Julius, Arthur, and Erwin Kjelshus.
He was born April 24, 1912, in Lake Hanska Township, Brown County, to Olaf and Thea (Mork) Kjelshus. He married Myrtle Pearse on Dec. 2, 1939, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska. They farmed in Lake Hanska and Linden townships.

William 'Bill' Senger, 78, of Redwood Falls, formerly of Clements, died June 4, 2000 at Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls with burial in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Clements with military rites by the Clements American Legion.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and will continue at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls.
