Harold Hopman, 78, died Monday, June 12, 2000, at St. James Health Services Hospital.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. James, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, and at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by stepchildren, Trevor and Dawn Nau of St. James; Carla and Dennis Anderson of Trimont; and Vonda and Robert Rinne of St. James; eight grandchildren; brother, Donovan and Lorraine of Madelia; sisters, Verna Young of Littleton, Colo., and Eunice Luedtke of Coon Rapids; sister-in-law, Edith Hopman; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Melvin.
He was born April 23, 1922, in St. James, to John and Martha (Munsterman) Hopman. He attended St. James High School. He farmed in Rosendale Township.

Arlyn Dennis Enstad, of St. Paul, formerly of New Ulm and Hanska, died Monday, June 12, 2000 in St. Paul.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Divinity Lutheran Church, Cottage Avenue, St. Paul, with burial in Orinoca.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday at Wulff Mortuary, St. Paul.

Erna Kath, 92, formerly of rural Courtland died Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at the Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of the service at the church on Saturday.
Erna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Harriet and DeWayne Peper of Glenwood; sons and daughters-in-law, Reverend Harvey and Norita Kath of Glencoe, Gilbert and Nancy Kath of Park Rapids, Gordon and Roxanne Kath of Maple Grove, and Vernon and Linda Kathof Lakeville; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson; also by sisters-in-law, Almeda Kath of Nisswa, and Esther Fenske of Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Reverend Gerald L. Kath on Sept. 5, 1994; two brothers, Dick and Art Bruns; and a sister, Elsie Muetzel.
Erna was born July 19, 1907 in Courtland Township, Nicollet County to Dietrich and Minna (Stolt) Bruns. She attended parochial school in Courtland Township, Nicollet County. She worked at home and for relatives and other families until she married. On July 19, 1936 she married Reverend Gerald L. Kath at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Courtland Township, Nicollet County. She worked closely with her husband during his years of ministry.
Erna was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland.

Bertha Datwyler, of Tracy, formerly of Milroy, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at Tracy Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Milroy, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and will continue one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Redwood Valley Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, is in charge of arrangements.

Lucille B. Rust, 85, of Mesa, Ariz., died Sunday, June 11, 2000 at Valley Lutheran Hospital, Mesa.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Madelia, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia, with a prayer service 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue 9-10:15 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
She is survived by sons, Gerald and wife Carolyn of Madelia, and Ron of Mesa; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Viola Huegerich and Thelma Wiederin, both of Carroll, Iowa, Marion Vicarious of Omaha, Neb., Darlene Taylor of Dallas, Texas, and LuJean Schaffer of Des Moines, Iowa; and brothers, Roy of Carroll, Iowa,and Earl and wife Elvina of Rockwell City, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank; infant daughter; and brothers, Henry and Edwin.
She was born Aug. 6, 1914 in Mount Carmel, Iowa, to Frank and Mary (Bernholtz) Huegerich. She grew up in Mount Carmel, where she attended school. She married Frank Rust on Jan. 7, 1936 in Mount Carmel. They lived in rural St. James until 1956, when they moved to rural madelia, and later into Madelia. She was a homemaker and worked at Tony Downs Foods, madelia. After Frank died in November 1991, she remained in Madelia until 1996, when she moved to Mesa. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Madelia.

Stanley 'Stan' Bushard, 81, of 1216 S. Washington St., in New Ulm, died Saturday June 10, 2000, a Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4 8 p.m. today and will continue 7:30-10 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a rosary by the St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council at 6:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella Bushard of New Ulm; daughters, Lois Schreyer of New Ulm, Connie Kloeckl of rural Hanska, and Judy Fullerton and her husband, Rick of Chaska; sons, Greg Bushard and his wife, Agnes of New Ulm, Gordy Bushard and his wife, Connie of rural New Ulm, Ron Bushard and his wife, Linda of New Ulm; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Berg of New Ulm, Gertrude Klaras of Webster, and Jeanette Domeier and her husband, LeRoy of New Ulm; brothers, Walter Bushard and his wife, Violet and Edward Bushard and his wife, Lorraine all of New Ulm; and brother-in-law, LeRoy Kaufman of Glencoe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Randy Kloeckl; sister and brother-in-law, Forella and Clifford Smasal; sister, Arlene Kaufman; and by brothers-in-law, Alex Berg and Dick Klaras.
He was born Feb. 7, 1919, in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, to Joseph and Angelica (Seifert) Bushard. He attended school in St. George. On June 21, 1944, he married Marcella Hauser at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They farmed in West Newton Township, Nicollet County for four years and in Courtland Township, Nicollet County for 24 years, when they retired and moved to New Ulm. He worked for the Courtland Elevator for a short time before going to work for Forester Welding in New Ulm, where he worked until 198. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council. He had been a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care Center since March 2000.

Christ H. Hofsommer, 93, of Winthrop, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Faith United Church, Winthrop, with burial in Old Woodlawn Cemetery, Pipestone.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8 a.m. Tuesday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop, and will continue one hour prior to the time of the services Tuesday at the church.
He is survived by sisters-in-law, Clara Hinz and Nora Grimnitz, both of Pipestone; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Esther; and sisters.
He was born Aug. 19, 1906, in Rock County, rural Trosky, to Adam and Susan (Schrewser) Hofsommer. He grew up in the Trosky area, where he attended school. He married Esther Grimnitz on Feb. 12, 1935 in Pipestone. They moved to Winthrop in the 1930s, where they farmed in Transit Township, Sibley County. He continued farming until 1971, moving into Winthrop in 1973. He later lived at Amberfield Apartments, Winthrop. H moved to Winthrop Good Samaritan Center May 17, 2000. He was a member of Faith United Church, Winthrop.

Cora Nelson, 88, of St. James, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Augustana Lutheran Church, St. James, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Pease Funeral Home, St. James, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.
She is survived by husband Bruno; daughter Deborah and husband Dale L. Anderson of St. James; son Timothy and wife Jean of St. James; nine grandchildren; brother Arthur Helling and wife Phyllis of Northridge, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; two sisters; grandson Josh; and great-granddaughter Johanna.
She was born Oct. 11, 1911, in Watonwan County, to Nels and Ragna (Tondevold) Helling. She attended rural school in Watonwan County and graduated from Madelia High School. She attended Normal School in New Ulm. She taught rural school. She married Bruno Nelson on Aug. 11, 1940, on the family farm in Watonwan County. She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active in circles.

Eleanor (Mrs. Elmer 'Butch') Pehling, 76, of rural Nicollet died Sunday, June 11, 2000, of leukemia at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and one hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer "Butch" Pehling of rural Nicollet; daughters, Audene Greenwald and her husband, Rene of Waterville, Joyce Schmidt of Fairmont, Wanda Domeier and her husband, John of St. Clair; sons, Willard Pehling and his wife, Darlene of Walker, Allan Pehling and his wife, Nancy of Keewatin; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harley "Pete" Wills and his wife, Arline of Courtland.
He was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Louis and Willard Wills.
She was born Sept. 8, 1923 in Granby Township, Nicollet County, to Louis and Anna (Stolt) Wills. She married Elmer "Butch" Pehling on Oct. 15, 1942, at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet. They farmed in Courtland Township, Nicollet County. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Courtland. She had been in failing health since September 1999.

Eugene A. Goblirsch, 69, of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Gil-Mor Manor, Morgan.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service 7:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus and Catholic Aid rosary at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife Agnes of Sleepy Eye; son Patrick of Sleepy Eye; daughters, Kathy of Medicine Lake, and Sandy of Shakopee; brothers, the Rev. Robert of Ortonville, and Dennis and wife Lynn of Midwest City, Okla.; sisters, Sister Bertille of Duluth, and Alice and husband Harry Dorn of Middleton, Wis.; sister-in-law, Adelle of Sleepy Eye; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edwin; and a brother in infancy.
He was born March 25, 1931, in Albin Township, Brown County, to Frank and Clara (Sellner) Goblirsch. He attended country school in Albin Township and graduated from St. Mary's High School, Sleepy Eye, in 1948. He farmed the family farm. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Aid Association.

Donald Briest, 86, of Gaylord, died Thursday, June 15, 2000 at his daughter 's home in rural Nicollet.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at American Lutheran Church, Gaylord, with burial in Gaylord Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation is 10 a.m. until noon and 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Egesdal Funeral Home, Gaylord, is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Lenora; daughter Marjorie and husband Garfield Eckberg of rural Nicollet; son Roger and wife Marti of Eden Prairie; brother Verner and wife Ella of Gaylord; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Roy, Erwin, Wallace, August, and Percy; and sisters, Mayme Schnackenberg and Gertrude Briest.
He was born Nov. 26, 1913 in Sibley Township, to August and Emma (Wendelschaefer) Briest. He married Lenora Bierstedt on Sept. 4, 1937 in Gaylord. He farmed in Sibley Township until 1977 when they moved to Gaylord. He was a member of American Lutheran Church, Gaylord.

She was preceded in death by her her parents; husband; brothers, Mathias and Ray; and sisters, Marcella and Mary.
She was born March 28, 1919 on a farm in New Avon Township, Redwood County, to Anton and Barbara (Schottenbauer) Thomas. She attended District 101 country school. She married Brainerd Datwyler on June 1, 1948 in Milroy. They lived on a farm in Westline Township for 48 years, farming until 1973. She then bought the grocery store in Milroy, which the couple ran together until 1987, when they retired. After Brainerd died in 1996, she moved to O'Brien Court in Tracy, where she lived at the time of her death. She was active in the Milroy Legion Auxiliary.
