Edward 'Ed' Manderfeld, 95, of Redfield, S.D., and formerly of New Ulm, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Redfield.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and will continue from 7:30-10 a.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He is survived by daughters, Alice Rewitzer of New Ulm, Madeline Rewitzer of Northville, S.D., Betty Thompson of Vale, S.D.; son, Edward S. and his wife, Sandra Manderfeld of Lead, S.D.; 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elsie in 1986; three brothers; three sisters; and five grandchildren.
He was born on Feb. 8, 1905, in Milford Township, Brown County, to Henry and Elizabeth (Arnolda) Manderfeld. He attended school in Milford Township, Brown County. On Dec. 18, 1925, he married Elsie Sperl. They lived in New Ulm until moving to Redfield in 1946. He worked on various farms in the Redfield and Northville area. He moved into Redfield in 1989.

Martha M. Rusch, 99, of Buffalo Lake, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at Buffalo Lake Health Care Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Zion United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake, with burial in the Zion Evangelical Cemetery in Buffalo Lake.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Zion United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake, and continue one hour prior to services on Friday. Arrangements are handled by Hughes Funeral Home in Hector.
She is survived by her son, Gordon and wife Gladys Rusch of New Ulm; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; half-sister, Myra Lindquist of Olivia, sister-in-law, Verna Koenig of Buffalo Lake, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert on Nov. 7, 1987; parents; brothers, Wilhelm, Herman, Henry and Elmer Koenig; and sisters, Dela Ebert and Viola Koenig.
She was born May 19, 1901, in Martinsburg Township, Renville County, to Ferdinand and Fredricka (Ebert) Koenig. She attended grade school in Martinsburg Township and Globe Business College in St. Paul. She worked for the Farmers Bank in Buffalo Lake.
She married Herbert A. Rusch on June 14, 1921, in Buffalo Lake. They operated Rusch's IGA Grocery Store from 1939 to 1961. She entered the Buffalo Lake Health Care Center in 1991. She was an active member of the Zion United Methodist Church. She was past president of the Buffalo Lake American Legion Auxiliary.

Stanley Pietrowski, 82, of Wabasso, died Saturday, July 15, 2000, at the Wabasso Health Care Center.
Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Wabasso, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is one hour before services.
Nelson Funeral Service of Redwood Falls handled arrangements.
He is survived by children and their spouses, Jill and Marty Byrne of Newtown, Pa., Brad and Wendy Pietrowski of Houston, Texas, and Connie Lauckner of Burnsville; five grandchildren; sisters, Christine Willis of Mystic, Conn., Jane Warner of Baltic, Conn.; brothers, Walter Pietrowski of Bellevue, Wash. and Joseph Pietrowski of East Falmouth, Mass.
He was preceded in death by his wife Florence.
He was born July 4, 1918, in Norwich, Conn., to Walter and Sophie (Dulcheski) Pietrowski. He earned a mortuary science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1941. He married Florence Klabunde on Jan. 12, 1943 in Redwood County. They lived lived in Wabasso where he worked for George Franta Companies Funeral Parlor and Hardware Store. He bought out the business in 1973 and operated it until 1993. He appeared in a CNN report called "Stanley's Story.". He was also featured in the book "On The Road Again" by Jason Davis. He belonged to St. Anne's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Foresters and was president of the Wabasso Commercial Club in the early 70s. He was District 3 President of the Minnesota Funeral Directors Association and held offices with the Wabasso Lions Club.

Esther Zimmerli, 101, of Redwood Falls, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at the Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center in Redwood Falls.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in the Salem United Methodist Cemetery in New Avon Township.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, and will continue on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born on Dec. 29, 1898, in New Avon Township, Redwood County, to Rudolph and Marie (Christians) Luescher. She resided with her family in New Avon Township and the city of Wabasso. She attended District 7 School. On May 6, 1919, she married David Zimmerli at the Evangelical Church in Wabasso. They farmed north of Wabasso, and in 1969 they moved into Redwood Falls. David died on Feb. 23, 1980. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls and belonged to church circle. She previously belong to Pilgrim United Methodist Church in Wabasso.
She is survived by her children, Leonard Zimmerli and wife Belva of Redwood Falls, Mildred Anderson of Bloomington, Lorraine Johnson and husband Jerry of Crystal; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nd a brother-in-law, William Schroeder of Farmington
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, four brothers and six sisters, including a twin sister Ella.

Clifford Knutson, 85, of Belgrade, formerly of Vesta, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at North Memorial Medical Center, Minneapolis.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Redwood Valley Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, with burial in the Vesta Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to services at the funeral home Friday.
He is survived by his wife Wanda; and brother Leonard of Graling, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers.
He was born March 1, 1915, in Sheridan, Ore., to Chris and Kristine (Dalby) Knutson. He moved to Minnesota as a child. He served in the United States Army. He married Wanda Arlege on June 25, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio. He worked for Lennox Corporation in Columbus for several years. He moved to Mankato, where he worked for John Deere and Mankato Lumber Co. They moved to Vesta in 1975. They have lived in Belgrade for the past several years.

Norma Anderson, 81, of Hanska, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at home.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Nora Unitarian Universalist Church, Hanska, with burial in Mt. Pisquah Cemetery, Hanska.
Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church Monday.
Firle Funeral Home, Hanska, is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband Walter "Bud" Anderson of Hanska; daughter Sally and husband Tom Herman of Champlin; son Charles and wife Rolande of Henderson, Nev.; grandchildren, Benjamin and Andrew Herman; sisters-in-law, Ella Nelson of Minneapolis, and Alice Daniels of Big Fork, Mont.; brother-in-law Russell and wife Gwen Anderson of Big Fork, Mont.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers; and two sisters.
She was born July 24, 1918, in Linden Township, Brown County, to Nels and Gurine (Thordson) Erickson. She attended country school and graduated from Hanska High School in 1936. She worked as a telephone operator for Hanska Rural Telephone Company and also for the drug store in Hanska. She married Walter Anderson on Jan. 21, 1946, in San Francisco, Calif. They lived in Hawaii while her husband was in the service. They moved to Hanska in 1946. They owned and operated Hanska Meats for 27 years. She was a member of Nora Unitarian Universalist Church. She was also a board member and past president of the Legion Auxiliary. She also served on the Omsrud Log Cabin Committee.

Benhart Meyers, 66, formerly of Buffalo Lake, a resident of the Bird Island Manor, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at Renville County Hospital in Olivia.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Friday, at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector, with burial in Faith City Cemetery in Faith, S.D.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the Hughes Funeral Home on Friday.
He is survived by sons, Alan Meyers of Oregon, Myron Meyers of Washington; grandchildren; brother, Donald Meyers and his wife Frances of Nisland, S.D.; sisters, Helen Weckwerth of Arlington, Vivian Duenow and her husband Lawrence of Arlington; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Margaret; brothers, Leonard and Milan, and three brothers in infancy.
He was born Feb. 23, 1934, in Faith, S.D., to Robert and Tillie (Lossman) Meyers. He was five years old when his mother died, and he was brought to Arlington to live with his sister on her farm. He attended school in Arlington. In 1955, he married Loretta Schaff in South Dakota. He lived in Yakima, Wash., South Dakota, and later moved to Buffalo Lake. He worked for many years in road construction before becoming employed at Dakota Poultry.

June M. Hoppe, 84, of Springfield and formerly of Clements, died July 18, 2000, at Springfield Medical Center.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield with burial in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Clements.
VIsitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield; and continues one hour before the service at the church.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Lila Fay and Burton Kucera of Brownton; grandchildren and their spouses, Robert and Sandy Rannow of Glencoe, Mike and Debra Schweiss of San Antonio, Texas, Vilas and Gail Van Slotten of Little Falls, Arnie and Tracy Jorgenson of Hutchinson, Mike and Elizabeth Kucera of Richmond, Scott Weedman of San Antonio, Texas, Shawn Weedman of San Antonio, Tammy Kucera of Brownton, and Steve Kucera of Watertown, S.D.; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brother and sisters-in-law, Robert and Clem Schroeder of Madelia; sister-in-law, Mildred Schwartz of Milroy; nieces, nephews and other friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Hoppe; a daughter, Nathalee Kay and her husband Lyle Weedman; a sister Atly and her husband Andrew Larson, and a brother-in-law, Alvin Schwartz.
She was born Nov. 10, 1915, in New Ulm, to Harry and Lillian (Ebert) Schroeder. She attended St. Paul Lutheran School. She married Elmer Hoppe on Dec. 16, 1933, at Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn. They lived in Springfield until 1961, Ortonville until 1976 and Clements until 2000. She traveled with her husband to construction sites and worked in a women's apparel shop in Ortonville. She was a former member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Clements and a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield. She became a resident of St. John's Home in May.

Gladys Doerr, 70, of Stewart, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at her home.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stewart with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at Hughes Funeral Home, Stewart; and continues one hour before services Saturday at the church.

Judith Klooster, 52, died Thursday, July 20, 2000 at her sister's home in North Mankato, of cancer.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at Landkamer Johnson Boman Funeral Home, Mankato. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church Monday.
She is survived by her husband Dale; daughter Anna of Mankato; sons, Nathan and Matthew of Cincinnati, Ohio; mother Lorraine Williams of Mankato; sisters, Susan Williams of Mankato, Mary Hicks and husband Jerry of North Mankato, and Jackie Ruhland and husband Joe of Maple Grove; brothers, Dan Williams and wife Cindy of Mankato, Ted Williams of Cambridge, and Greg Williams of Maple Grove; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She was born April 26, 1948 to Lorraine (Manderfield) and the late Roger J. Williams in Minneapolis. She attended St. Joseph the Worker Elementary School and graduated from Mankato High School in 1966. She attended Mankato State College and Mankato Area Vocational Technical Institute. She was a licensed practical nurse. She married Dale Klooster on Sept. 28, 1973 in Mankato. She worked in pediatrics at the Mankato Clinic for five years. When the clinic added an allergy department she became the first nurse to serve in that area, working there for three years. After the birth of her second child, she worked part-time at Hillcrest Nursing Home. The family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1982, where they lived for 16 years. In 1993, they adopted Anna as an infant. She was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer in August 1997. She moved back to Mankato in the summer of 1998. After one year of remission,her breast cancer returned in the fall of 1999.

Cora Hahn,89, of rural Gaylord, died Thursday, July 20, 2000 at Glencoe Area Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, New Auburn, with burial in High Island Cemetery, New Auburn.
Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at Egesdal Funeral Home, Gaylord, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Monday.

Irene Thormodson, 68, of Madelia, died Friday, July 21, 2000 at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Madelia.
Visitation is is 5-8 p.m. Monday at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.
