Eugene Gedde, 66, of North Mankato, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with burial at Hebron Cemetery of Judson.
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Tuesday at Landkamer Johnson-Boman Funeral Home, Mankato, and one hour before services Wednesday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, Dale of North Mankato; daughter and son-in-law, Dona and Derran Dugger of Eagle Lake; an uncle, three aunts and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born Jan. 5, 1934, in Mankato to Ray H. and Esther (Waage) Gedde. He graduated from Nicollet High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-57, during the Korean Conflict. He drove a gravel truck and farmed between Nicollet and North Mankato. He married Joyce Swenson on April 11, 1969, in Mankato. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and VFW Post 1120 of St. Peter.

Vivian Waterman, 87, of Redwood Falls, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at the Redwood Falls Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Clarksville, Iowa, with burial at Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville.
Visitation will be 5-7:30 p.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, and 5-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Clarksville, and at the church Wednesday, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Jim Garrison of Redwood Falls; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lyle; and brothers, Claude, Jack and Leo Petitt.
She was born Oct. 3, 1913, in Chickasaw County, Iowa, to Charlie and Elizabeth (Ward) Petitt. She went to high school in Fredericksburg, Iowa. She married Eugene Waterman on Aug. 2, 1933 in Fredericksburg. They lived in Fredericksburg until the mid '40s when they moved to Clarksville where they lived until the mid '60s. She worked at Macy's Variety and and Huber's Clothing Store, both in Clarksville. Her husband died in 1977.

Delmer 'Bud' Wass, 78, of Mankato, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Woodland Hills Funeral Home, Mankato.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Tuesday in the chapel.
He is survived by his wife, Leona; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Kathy of St. Peter and Guy and Renee of Mankato; daughter, Gwen Anderson of Garden City; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Evelyn Vaubel-Ellis of Salem, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and a great-grandson.
He was born April 7, 1922, in Brown County, to Harold and Lillian (Koetting) Wass. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-45. He married Leona Krohn on Sept. 20, 1947, in St. Peter. He worked for Continental Can Company until retiring in 1979. He belonged to Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 11, VFW Post 950, Mankato Eagles Club and Mankato Moose.

Verona Hesse, 87, formerly of 705 N. Payne in New Ulm, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. today at the cathedral. St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Council will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Ann and David B. Beck of New Ulm; son and daughter-in-law, James W. and Kathy Hesse of New Ulm; five grandchildren; two great-grandsons; sisters and brother-in- law, Leona and Richard Hesse, and Esther Radke, all of New Ulm; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Delores Kaping of Vadnais Heights, Elmer and Marie Kaping of Hutchinson, Henry, Jr. and Marilyn Kaping of Nevis; and brother-in-law, Carl Hesse of New Ulm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter C. Hesse on Feb. 19, 1993; granddaughter, Julie Beck on Feb. 22, 1993; and sisters, Lorraine Vorlicky, Elvira Schnurrer Clark.
She was born on March 7, 1913, in Spring Brook, Wis., to Henry A. and Mary (Rubey) Kaping. She married Walter C. Hesse on July 3, 1940, at the parsonage at Holy Trinity Church in New Ulm. She worked as a housekeeper for various families in New Ulm. She helped take city population surveys and worked with the Brown County Fair exhibits. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and was a former member of Our Ladies Choir at church. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Society and St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Council.

Michael 'Tudor' Norell, 44, of St. James, formerly of Darfur, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, as the result of a fire in his apartment.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Darfur with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey; and continues one hour before the service at the church.
He is survived by his parents Clayton P. and Georgia Norell of Darfur; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynnae and Steve Anderson of Edina, Andrea and Lyle Blom of Mountain Lake, Karen Norell of Granite Fall, Marian Norell of Waseca; brothers and sisters-in-law, Duane and Carmen Norell of Columbia, S.C., Dale and Deb Norell of Rochester and Jeff and Colleen Norell of Owatonna; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
He was born March 9, 1956, to Clayton P. and Georgia (Miller) Norell in Comfrey. He attended Darfur Elementary School and graduated from Comfrey High School in 1974. He graduated from Southwest State University in Marshall in 1978 with a B.A. degree in physical education. He had worked for Land O' Lakes, ST Industries for 16 years, Balzer Manufacturing and currently at 3M in New Ulm. He was a member of the Minnesota Deerhunters Association, Watonwan County Pheasants Forever, Eagles Club and Ducks Unlimited.

Herman J. "Hermie" Kretsch, 66, of 524 Fourth South St. in New Ulm, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Immanuel - St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Searles. Military honors will be conducted by the New Ulm veterans organizations.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, James Lee and Lisa Kretsch of New Ulm, David Jon and Jackie Kretsch of Forest Hill, Md., and Daniel Herman and Shari Kretsch of New Ulm; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; sisters and brother-in-law, Gloria and Harry Lieder of New Ulm, Esther Ericson of Hastings and Emily Bergmeier of Conway, Ark.; sisters-in-law, Magdalina Scharbach and Lila Scharbach both of New Ulm; brother in-in-law Elmer Pitzner of Gaylord; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Grace Pitzner, Loretta Weber, Delores Grothem and Mildred Scherer; and half-brothers, August and Jerome Scharbach.
He was born May 24, 1934, in New Ulm to Herman A. and Luella (Windland) Kretsch. He served in the 101st Airborne Division in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958. From 1958 to 1974 he worked as a self-employed painter in the New Ulm area. He then worked in construction with the Local 132 Labor Union in Mankato until retiring in 1986. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm.

Walter F. Fixsen, 89, of rural Vesta, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Sunwood Good Samaritan Center in Redwood Falls.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation is 12:30-2 p.m. at the church on Wednesday. Nelson Funeral Home of Redwood Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born on Oct. 17, 1910, in Sheridan Township Redwood County, Minnesota, to Bernard and Cordelia (McCurdy) Fixsen. He attended country schools. He was a farm laborer and later farmed the home place. On May 28, 1955, he married Alta Schweim in Springfield. They farmed in Sheridan Township. He was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Alta Fixsen of rural Vesta; brothers, Orman Fixsen of Wabasso, Clarence Fixsen and wife Dorothy of Wabasso; brother-in-law Wayne Krause of Seaforth; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ellenora Krause in 1973; and sister-in-law, Margery Fixsen in 1969.

Sylvester 'Sassy' Hanson, 72, of Hanska, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000,at home.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Hanska, with burial in the church Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by the Madelia VFW and the Madelia and Hanska American Legion posts.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Firle Funeral Home, Hanska, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, Allen and wife Nancy of Hanska; daughters, Lynn Paulson and friend John Hoeft of Madelia, Betti Kamolz and husband Kenneth of New Ulm; nine grandchildren; sister-in-law, Deanne Pizel and husband Warren of Hanska; brother-in-law, Orvis Lilleodden and wife Bernice of Manahga; and other relatives.
Memorials are preferred to Hanska Fire department.
He was born Feb. 20, 1928, in Olmsted County, to Harry and Rikka (Braaten) Hanson. He moved with his family to Hanska at a young age and attended country schools. He graduated from Hanska High School in 1946, and he attended agriculture school. He entered the U.S. Army on June 22, 1951 and served in Korea as a tank driver. Following his honorable discharge on March 22, 1953, he returned to Hanska. He married Marilyn Lilleodden on Aug. 29, 1953, in Hanska. He continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves until his discharge in 1959. The couple farmed in Linden Township, Brown County, until retiring in 1992. They moved into Hanska in 1993. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hanska, the Hanska American Legion and Madelia VFW. He served on the Linden Township Board and did road maintenance for the township. He was a self-employed carpenter, and worked for Paulson Brothers Construction. He was a commercial fisherman, worked as a butcher for Hanska Meats, worked for the Hanska Co-op and did livestock trucking for Kelly Helling.

Ruben Hohenstein, 86, of St. James, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church, Madelia, with burial in Willow Creek South Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia, and will continue one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Marge; daughters, Judith Radenbaugh and husband Dale of St. James, and Rohanda Victorsen and husband James of Maple Plain; son, Harvey and wife Diane of McGregor; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister Erma Morrill and husband Donald of North Mankato.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother.
He was born April 20, 1914, in Good Thunder, to Anton and Amanda (Bruss) Hohenstein. He grew up in rural Madelia and attended rural schools. He married Margaret (Marge) Hanson on Oct. 6, 1940, in Vernon Center. They farmed in rural Madelia until 1994 when they moved to St. James. He served on the school board and Luther Memorial Home Board. He assisted with 4-H and FFA programs. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and served on church boards. He was a former member of Rosendale Lutheran Church. He was named Watonwan County Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1998.

Sadie Fischer, 87, of Buffalo Lake, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Buffalo Lake Health Care Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Zion United Methodist Church, Buffalo Lake, with burial in the Zion Evangelical Cemetery, Buffalo Lake.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, and will continue one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
She is survived by sons, Vernon and wife Rosella of New Hope, Karlo and wife Susie of Northfield, and Brian and wife Pat of Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Florence Jakobitz of Buffalo Lake; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville; seven brothers; and six sisters.
She was born April 16, 1913, in Martinsburg Township, to Gustave and Amelia (Koenig) Mueller. She graduated from Buffalo Lake High School. She married Orville Fischer on Aug. 2, 1934, in Buffalo Lake. She was a member of the Nazarene Church until it closed. She then attended the Methodist Church. She helped her husband in business, taking calls and doing books.

Fritz G. Gieseke, 78, of Rt. 2, Nicollet, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brighton Township, Nicollet County, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Friday.
He is survived by his wife, Adelyn Gieseke of rural Nicollet; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mae and Alton Mattson of rural Nicollet, and Edna and Dan Roegiers of New Ulm; brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Deb Gieseke of Gibbon; sister-in-law, Wanda Gieseke of Lafayette; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son in infancy; two sisters; and two brothers.
Fritz was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Brighton Township, Nicollet County, to Fredrick C. and Frieda (Ulrich) Gieseke. He attended country school in Brighton Township, Nicollet County. He married Adelyn Neemann on Nov. 26, 1953, in Mankato. He farmed in Brighton Township, Nicollet County. He attended the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brighton Township.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to LIMA, chaplain services in hospitals provided by Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod.

David Mathiowetz, 15, of Wabasso died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at North Memorial Medical Center, Robbinsdale, from injuries resulting from an automobile accident on Oct. 2, 2000, in New Avon Township, Redwood County.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Wabasso, with burial in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Clements.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday at the church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and continues at the church Saturday one hour prior to the service.
Nelson Funeral Home of Redwood Falls handled arrangements.
He is survived by his parents, Steven and Marlys Mathiowetz of rural Redwood Falls; sister, Stacy; brother, Daniel; grandparents, Harvey and Katie Hoekstra of rural Blomkest, and Marie Mathiowetz of Clements; aunts and uncles; nd many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leo Mathiowetz, in 1988.
He was born Nov. 3, 1984, in Redwood Falls to Steven and Marlys (Hoekstra) Mathiowetz. He played football, baseball and basketball and was a wrestler in elementary school. He was a member of the Boy Scouts in Wabasso and Sky Rockets 4-H Club. He played the trumpet in the school band. He was a class representative his freshman year and was a sophomore Homecoming attendant. He belonged to St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso.

Beatrice Biebl Jordon, 81, of Long Beach, Calif., died Sept. 30, 2000.
Services were held in Long Beach on Wednesday, Oct. 4., with burial in All Souls Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; sons, Michael, Patrick; daughters, Kathleen Reed, Sharon Carrington; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, all of California; brothers and sisters-in-law, Herbert and Ella Biebl, Lavern and Mable Biebl, Evelyn Biebl and Marion Palmer, all of New Ulm; and sister and brother-in-law, Bill and Tess Keckeisen of Long Beach.
She was born Oct. 1, 1919, to Henry and Mary (Walser) Biebl in St. George. She worked in New Ulm and the Twin Cities before moving to Long Beach. She married Robert Jordon on Feb. 23, 1957. She was a member of St. Marie Garetti Catholic Church in Long Beach.

Tebbo Menken, 82, of Lamberton, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Valley View Manor, Lamberton.
Services are 10:30 a.m. today at United Methodist Church, Jeffers, with burial in Jeffers Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Odegaard-Quade Legion Post 401.
Visitation begins at 9 a.m. today and continues until time of service at the church.

He is survived by children and their spouses, Elizabeth and Patrick Borich of St. Paul and Edgar and Judy English of Algona, Iowa; siblings and their spouses, John and Viola Menken of Jeffers, Hilda and John Brand of Jeffers, Edwin and Boonying Menken of Windom; Elsie Vieregge of Belle Vista, Ark., Esther and Robert Rasmussen of Walnut Grove, Anne and Donald Roefer of Round Rock, Texas; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Katherine; one daughter, Meredith; and one brother, George.
He was born Aug. 28, 1918, to Tebbo H. and Etta (Eucken) Menken in Amboy Township, Cottonwood County. He graduated from Jeffers school in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He later farmed for one year and drove a bulk oil truck until 1953. He married Katherine Woodhall English in Fairfax on June 13, 1953. The couple farmed northeast of Jeffers until 1983. He earned an 11-gallon pin for donating blood. He belonged to Jeffers United Methodist Church. He was the Amboy Township assessor for many years and served on the Cottonwood County Draft Board. He belonged to Odegaard-Quade Legion Post 401 where he was commander and finance officer. He was also a charter member of the Ruritan Club (now the Lions Club).
