George Elsing, 92, of Comfrey, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Springfield, with burial in the City Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-6 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-9 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, and at the church, Monday, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Mollie of Springfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Ben and Betty of Maplewood, Arnold and Norma of Twin Falls, Idaho, Kenneth of LaPalm, Calif., Gerald of Wendover, Nev. and Glenn and Twyla of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; daughters and sons-in-law, Arlene and Darrell Liesenfeld of Springfield, Lorraine Olson of Mankato, and Lois and Wayne Bloemke of St. Clair; 13 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three grandchildren; a son-in-law; and 14 brothers and sisters.
He was born Oct. 15, 1907, to Ben and Gertie (Johnson) Elsing in Bashaw Township, Brown County. He attended rural school in Brown County and worked with his father on the family farm. He married Mollie Heffle on March 24, 1931, in Mountain Lake. He served overseas in the Armed Forces during World War II. He drove a truck for construction companies and worked various jobs in the Springfield and Comfrey areas. They lived in the Springfield and Comfrey area until he entered St. John Lutheran Home in 1989. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Comfrey.

Paul Leino, of Madelia, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.
Services will be held in White Bluff, Tenn., with burial in Hutton Cemetery, White Bluff.
Arrangements were with Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia.
He is survived by daughter, Helen Lunz and her fiance Antonio Bella of Madelia; grandchildren, David Boswell of Mankato and Jennifer Lunz of Madelia; sister Helen Eldridge of Reno, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and his parents.
He was born Nov. 10, 1911, in San Pedro, Calif., to Ivar and Hilma (Peura) Leino. He grew up in California and attended school there. In 1935 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He married Bobbie Jean Burch on Nov. 4, 1939, at Norfolk, Va. From 1941 to 1945 he served in the Pacific Islands during World War II. After his return from the war, he continued serving in the Navy until 1958 and was stationed in many locations on the East and West coasts and in Bermuda. After retiring from the Navy he farmed in Dickson, Tenn., until 1980. His wife died in Sept. 1991. He moved to Madelia in 1994. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Tennessee and was a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Civitan Club, the Masonic Lodge, and Order of the Eastern Star. He was a Boy Scout leader.

Helen Schwartz, 79, of Gaylord, formerly of Stewart, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Fernando, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today at the church and at the church Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements are with Hughes Funeral Home, Hector.
She is survived by daughters, Audrey Borchert of Gaylord, Madrienne and Donald Weber of Glencoe, Arlene Schwartz and her finace' Gary Keske of Gibbon, and Janice and Jim Rose of Arlington; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Martin and Viola Grewe of Gibbon; sister, Orpha Steffen of Gibbon; sister-in-law, Verne Grewe of Gibbon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; brother, Melvin; sisters, Dorothy Buboltz and Ruth Kiecker; son-in-law, Duane Borchert; and grandson, Rodney Borchert.
She was born Sept. 27, 1921, in Sibley County to Otto and Emma (Bentz) Grewe. She attended school in Moltke Township. She married Raymond Schwartz on Oct. 23, 1940 in Moltke Township. She worked at the Buffalo Lake Nursing Home. from 1965 until 1983. She moved to Gaylord and worked at the Gaylord Nursing Home, the Gaylord Bakery and the Green Thumb Program at Sibley East High School. She was named 1993 Volunteer of the Year at the Gaylord Nursing Home. She was also active in Ladies Aid.

Loretta Klossner, 80, of Route 1 Lafayette died Friday, October 13, 2000 at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. George Catholic Church in St. George with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday. The St. George Council of Catholic Women will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m., both Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Loretta is survived by her daughter, Theresa Klossner and her special friend, Mike Schuckert both of rural Courtland; sons, Michael Klossner of rural Lafayette and his special friend, Phyllis Postel of New Ulm, Leonard Klossner of rural Lafayette, Richard Klossner of Mankato, Tony Klossner of rural Lafayette, Norb Klossner and his wife, Sue of rural New Ulm, Charlie Klossner and his wife, Darla of North Mankato, Herb Klossner and his wife, Linda of New Ulm; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and her sister and brother-in-law, Asteria and Melvin Hinderman of rural Fairfax. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugo G. Klossner on November 2, 1982; a daughter, Mary Klossner in infancy; and a brother, Leo Hanslick.
She was born Sept. 9, 1920 in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County to Albert and Veronica (Stadick) Hanslick. She married Hugo G. Klossner on Sept. 9, 1947 at St. George Catholic Church in St. George. After marriage they farmed in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County. She was a member of St. George Catholic Church and had been a member of the choir at church and was a member of the Council of Catholic Women at church.

Gerald G. (Jerry) Seitz, 60, of Madison Lake, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at All Saints Catholic Church, Madison Lake. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Madison Lake.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at All Saints Catholic Church, Madison Lake, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services at the church Monday. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral Home of Hudson, Wis.
He is survived by his wife Diane; children, John and wife, Lori of Kasota, Leonard and wife, Sandy of Cleveland, Mary Klaseus and husband, Nick of St. Peter, Connie Meyer and husband, Dan of LeCenter; seven grandchildren; brothers, Ronald and wife Cathy of Sleepy Eye, Richard and wife, Joyce of Lafayette; a sister, Marjorie Hurd of Madison Lake; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Donna Schabert, Larry and Pam Schabert, Bob and Bernie Schabert, Kathy and Kenneth McMichael, Pat and Elzie Galloway, Tom and Jane Schabert, Geri and Keith McMichael, Mike and Wendy Schabert; several other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gerald Seitz was born March 9, 1940, in New Ulm to John and Irene (Franta) Seitz. On Jan. 23, 1960, he married M. Diane Schabert at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, North Mankato. In 1982, they moved to Madison Lake. He was a self-employed construction contractor. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Madison Lake. He belonged to St. Peter Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Redmen Club. He was a retired member of the St. Peter Police Reserve, and served on the Madison Lake City Council. He also was on the board of directors for the Minnesota on-site sewage treatment contractors association.

Melvin. G. 'Mel' Gag, 86, of 410 N. Washington St. in New Ulm, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at New Ulm Medical Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4- 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. St. Patrick's Council of the Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council will pray a combined rosary at 6:30p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Gag of New Ulm; daughter and son in law, Judy and Marlyn Sellner of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Mary Rose Gag, Loren and Yvonne Gag, Alan and Phyllis Gag, all of New Ulm, 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Lola Gag of Brooklyn Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Vera Bentzin and Verna Ries.
He was born Jan. 26, 1914, in New Ulm to George and Delores "Dolly" (Simmet) Gag. He married Norma Macho on Sept. 5, 1938, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. He was the second generation owner of Gag Sheet Metal and Roofing in New Ulm. He played the trumpet in the New Ulm Municipal Band and the Pioneer Band. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, St. Patrick's Council of the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council, and the Lions Club of New Ulm.
The family prefers memorials be given to the Knights of Columbus Boy Scout Troop No. 25.

Walter Watchke, 97, of 311 N. Washington St. in New Ulm, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday and continues 7:30- 8:30 a.m. Monday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and continues one hour before services Monday at the church. one hour prior to time of service at the church on Monday.
He is survived by daughters, Marilyn Watchke and Janice Boltmann of New Ulm, Betty Broste of Anchorage, Alaska, Audrey Watchke of Mankato; sons and daughters-in-law Howard and Alice Watchke of Blaine, Gary and Martha Watchke of Madison, Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elsie, on March 5, 1985; sisters, Emma Tyler, Alma Watschke, Ella Seifert, and Mabel Watschke; brothers, Herman Watschke, Jr., Arthur Watschke, Alfred Watschke, and Albert Watschke; and brother-in-law,Jerome Broste.
He was born Nov. 14, 1902, in Home Township, Brown County, to Herman and Mathilda (Remus) Watschke. He school in rural Sleepy Eye and graduated from Sleepy Eye High School in 1923. He graduated from LaCrosse State College in LaCrosse, Wis., in 1926. He then taught school for one year before returning to LaCrosse State College. In 1928 he graduated with a B.S. degree in physical education and then taught school in Buffalo, New York for one year. On Aug. 23, 1929, he married Elsie Mielke at the St. Paul's Lutheran Parsonage in North Mankato. They lived in North Mankato for three years before returning to New Ulm where he became employed as a U.S. mail carrier from 1933 until 1966 when he retired. He helped organize the senior citizens group in New Ulm, served as president of New Ulm Senior Citizens and Brown County Senior Citizens. He was the president of the War Dads in New Ulm. As a tour director for senior citizens, he traveled throughout the United States. He was a driver for the senior citizens and the shut-ins. He was president of the AAL branch at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he also served as president of the church council and on the visiting committee for the sick. He had been a director of the Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes. In 1972 he was named the Outstanding Senior Citizen for Brown County. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. He became a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care Center on July 30, 1998.

Verna J. Pautzke, 85, of Springfield, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Springfield, with burial in the city cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by daughters, Elizabeth and husband Frank Tetz of Carson City, Nev., Susan and husband John Hovdenes of Detroit Lakes, and Shari Pagnotta of San Diego, Calif.; six grandchildren; stepchildren, Jean Magochy of Schnecksville, Penn., Ed and wife LaVonne Pautzke of Springfield, Donovan and wife Elaine Pautzke of Northfield, and James Pautzke of Northhome; 11 stepgrandchildren; 25 step-great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold in 1974; husband, Edward in 1989; son-in-law, Anthony Pagnotta; step-son Jack Pautzke; stepson-in-law, Andrew Magochy; stepdaughter-in-law Judy Pautzke; brother, Louis; and sister, Leila.
She was born Oct. 15, 1914, in Henning, to Louis and Heda (Nelson) Johnson. She grew up and attended school in Henning, spending two years at Moorhead State Teachers College. She worked as a secretary in Wausau, Wis. She married Arnold Schultz on Jan. 20, 1940, and moved to Springfield. She worked with her husband Arnold at Schultz Speciality Shop, Springfield. In the 1960s she began working as a legal secretary for Albert Loomis. After Arnold died, she continued her work with Loomis, retiring in 1976. She married Edward Pautzke Sr. on Feb. 13, 1976, in Brookings, S.D. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Springfield, and the Eastern Star.

Orlin A. Kistner, 82, of Arlington, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long-Term Care.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Peace Lutheran Church, Arlington, with burial in Arlington City Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Fenske Funeral Home, Arlington, is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by hie wife, Oradel; son, Larry and wife Sandra of St. Peter; daughters, Connie and husband Larry Andrew of Hamburg, Lois and husband Robert Green of Waconia, and Cynthia and husband Steven Kane of St. Francis; brother, Clarence of Arlington; sisters-in-law, Bernice Soeffker of Arlington, Gladys Citrowski of Cyprus, Calif., and Glendora Puckitt of Moore, Okla.; brother-in-law, Bernard and wife Lorraine Rucks of Arlington; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born Aug. 1, 1918, in Arlington Township, Sibley County, to Martin and Elsie (Laabs) Kistner. He attended country school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from March 1941 until December 1945. He was a bandsman during most of his career, and served in the Pacific Asian Campaign the last 10 months of service, attaining the rank of sergeant. He married Oradel Rucks on Aug. 26, 1944, in Panama City, Fla. He farmed in the Arlington area.

Helen A. Hanson, 94, of Winthrop, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at Arlington Municipal Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Winthrop, with burial in the city cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Saturday.

Lucy Schmidt, 97, formerly of Searles, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a rosary at 6:30 p.m. by St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Society and a combined prayer service by the parish and Christian Mothers Society at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Melvin Wenninger of Sauk Center, Rose and Edward Johnson of Baxter; sons and daughters-in-law, James "Jim" and Darlene Schmidt of New Ulm, and Jerome "Jerry" and Phyllis Schmidt of Madelia; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry Schmidt, on Sept. 22, 1999; two daughters in infancy, daughter, Ruth, in 1943; son, Daniel, in 1974; sisters, Rose Wiltscheck, Bertha Wilfahrt, Anastasia Domeier, Clara Helget, Ottilia Landsteiner, Mary Kloeckl, and Ann Wiltscheck; and brothers Meinrad Hillesheim, Sr., and John Hillesheim.
She was born on April 16, 1903, in Sigel Township, Brown County, to Anton and Mary (Hillesheim) Hillesheim. She married Harry Schmidt on May 29, 1928, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. They farmed in Linden Township, Brown County, for 35 years before retiring in 1964 and moving into Searles. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Society and Christian Mothers Society both of Searles. She became a resident of the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm in 1993.

Lilah Fischer, 90, of Danube, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at St. Joseph,s Hospital in St. Paul.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion United Methodist Church in Danube with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 9:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Arrangements are with DirksBlem Funeral Service in Olivia.
She is survived by daughters, Marilyn Yock of Winthrop, Diane Benson and her husband, Lyle, of Ringsted, Iowa, and Sharon Kerssen and her husband, Keith, of West St. Paul; sister, Inez (and Vern) Kuglin of Redwood Falls, sisters-in-law Ada (and Glenn) Schaefer of Nampa, Idaho, and June (and Aaron) Schafer of Danube; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, her parents, and a sister, lone Schroeder.
She born Oct. 24, 1909, to Henry and Louisa Sommerfeld. She attended District 18 and Renville High School. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Middle Creek and Danube. She was a life member of the United Methodist Women. She belonged to the Danube Civic Club, Renville County Home Extension, Danube Senior Citizens Club, Birthday Club and Bible Study Club.
On March 30, 1932, she married Floyd Fischer. They farmed in rural Danube, then retired and moved to Danube. In June 1997 she moved to Ringsted, Iowa and lived there until February 1999, when she became a resident of Alterra Assisted Living Home in West St. Paul.

Raymond Messner, 75, of Brownton, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Apostolic Christian Church, Winthrop, with burial in the city cemetery.
Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-8 a.m. Wednesday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop, and will continue one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Elizabeth 'Betty' Guetter, 74, of Wabasso, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Wabasso, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, and will continue one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Sunset Funeral Home, Wabasso, is in charge of arrangements.

Mabel Clobes, 96, of Fairfax, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Home, St. James.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Fairfax, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is two hours before the service Tuesday at the church.
Hauser-Hantge Chapel of Fairfax handled arrangements.

Alice Eyrich, 83, of St. Paul, formerly of New Ulm, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Highland Chateau Health Care Center, St. Paul.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ, New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm, and one hour before services Thursday at the church.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Robert Hoecherl of Richfield, Kathryn and Michael Kruger of St. Paul; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Marsha Eyrich of New Ulm; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, Dorothy Anderson of Mission, Texas; sisters-in-law, Lenore Eyrich of New Ulm and Florence Eyrich of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd on Aug. 23, 1983; and a daughter, Carol.
She was born May 15, 1917, in New Ulm to William and Esther (Brinkmann) Oetting. She graduated from New Ulm High School in 1935. She attended Mankato Teachers College for two years and taught school in Ogilvie and Good Thunder. She married Lloyd Eyrich on June 29, 1946, in New Ulm. They lived in New Ulm where she worked as a substitute teacher. She moved to St. Paul in 1992 and lived at the Highland Chateau since 1995. She belonged to the United Church of Christ, New Ulm.
Memorials are preferred to the United Church of Christ or the American Diabetes Association.
