Raymond D. Messner, 75, of Brownton, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Apostolic Christian Church in Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today and 7:30-8 a.m. Wednesday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop, and from 9-9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Bernadine Messner of Brownton; sons, Gary Messner and his wife, Marilyn of Hutchinson, Stan Messner and his wife Jeanine of Hutchinson, Jeff Messner and his wife, Debbie of Brownton, and Steve Messner and his wife, Jan of Brownton; daughter, Cindy VonBerge and her husband, Gary of Glencoe; six grandchildren; brothers, Harold Messner and his wife, Geraldine of Gaylord, Mike Messner and his wife, Joyce of Gaylord, Don Messner and his wife, Viola of Peoria, Ill., Melvin Messner and his wife, Vernita of Winthrop, Harvey Messner and his wife, Verda of Baxter, Marvin Messner and his wife, Geraldine of Winthrop, and Gerald Messner and his wife, Millie of Hutchinson; sisters, Hazel Schmidt and her husband, Elmer of Lafayette, Idabell Witt and her husband Donald of Gibbon, and Shirley Demm and her husband, Lowell of Winthrop and many brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Mae Messner; and daughter, Sandra Rae Messner in 1946.
He was born on May 27, 1925, in Winthrop to Levi and Mae (Miller) Messner. He grew up in the Winthrop area and attended country school. He married Bernadine Ruth Schmidt on Sept. 12, 1945, in Lafayette. They farmed in several places including Gibbon, Stewart, St. Paul and Hutchinson. They settled in Brownton in 1965. The couple farmed until 1956, when they began working at 3M in Hutchinson. He retired from 3M in 1987. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Winthrop.

Elizabeth 'Betty' Guetter, 74 of rural Wabasso died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at her home.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today in St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso and one hour before services Wednesday at the church. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the church.
Sunset Funeral Home of Wabasso is handling arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Alois; sons, James and wife Diane of Wabasso, Patrick and wife Judy of Canby, Gregory and wife Kathleen of Wabasso, Mark and wife Helen of Wabasso, Arthur and wife JeanAnn of St. Paul, Peter of Wabasso, Paul and wife Lisa of Hastings, and Matthew of Wabasso; 21 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Frank Plaetz and wife Theresa of Wabasso, Caroline Pelzel of Wabasso, Carl Plaetz of Riverside, Calif., Johanna Storm of Winona, Lawrence Plaetz and wife Marcella of Lucan, Louis Plaetz and wife Lucille of Wabasso, Margaret Brown and husband Melvin of New Ulm, and Delores Frericks and husband Robert of Wanda.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Daniel in May 1972; and brother Bernard "Barney" Plaetz.
She was born Aug. 15, 1926, in Sheridan Township, Redwood County, Minnesota to Carl and Caroline (Vogel) Plaetz. She attended St. Anne's School and graduated from Wabasso High School. On April 26, 1948, she married Alois Guetter in St. Anne's Catholic Church. They farmed in Vail Township, Redwood County, west of Wabasso. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, Catholic Aid Association, and St. Anne's C.C.W. in which she was an officer.

Helen Hanson, 94, of Winthrop, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at the Arlington Municipal Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop and one hour before services, at the church on Saturday.
She is survived by son, Ronald Hanson and his wife, Anne of Winthrop; daughter, Rhoda Drake and her husband, Ben of Brainerd; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Calvin Zumhofe and his wife, Burnette of Gaylord, and Kenneth Zumhofe of Gaylord; sisters, Dorothy Thompson of Bloomington and Caroline Zumhofe of Gaylord, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Emma Carlin; and her husband, Carl on March 24, 1999; brothers, Leroy and Eddie Carlin and sister, Vivian Reneke.
She was born Aug. 25, 1906, in Gaylord to Edward and Emma (Haase) Carlin. She attended school in Gaylord. She was employed at Gaylord Mercantile for several years. She married Carl August Hanson on Aug. 12, 1933, in Minneapolis. They lived in Gaylord. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Winthrop. She was active in the past with the Ladies Aid. She also belonged to the Winthrop Golf Club and the bridge club in Winthrop.

Lawrence Draeger, 72 of Gibbon, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Hutchinson Community Hospital.
Services are 1:30 p.m.Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the church in Gibbon and will continue one hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Celie Mae Draeger of Gibbon; son, Steve Draeger and his wife, Dawn of St. Peter; daughter, Deb Fenske and her husband, Dave of Hutchinson; five grandchildren; brothers, Roger Draeger and his wife, Joy, Howard Draeger and his wife, Barb, and Raymond Draeger, all of Brownton, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Elda Draeger; sisters, Delores Draeger and Edna Wendland; and a brother-in-law, Ellsworth Wendland.
He was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Sumter Township, McLeod County, to Arthur and Elda (Osterman) Draeger. He grew up in Sumter Township, where he attended country school. Her served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 16, 1952 until Dec. 31, 1953.
He married Celie Mae Martha Schauer on Aug. 4, 1954, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. They lived in Brownton for a short time, before settling in Gibbon.
He was employed with Goodman's produce in Gibbon, and later he worked for William Forbrook Construction in Gibbon and for Bussler and Son Construction in Winthrop. He entered the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center on May 9, 1996. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. He also was a former member of the Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department.

Rev. John Joyce, 90, of Jessenland Township, Sibley County, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Mala Strana Nursing Home, New Prague.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Jessenland Township, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Jessenland.
Kolden Funeral Home in Henderson is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by a sister, Edith Joyce, of Jessenland Township; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.
He was born July 15, 1910, to Jeremiah and Mary Jan (Egan) Joyce in Jessenland Township. He attended Jessenland Township country schools. He completed his high school and minor seminary education at Crosier Seminary in Onamia. He completed his education at St. Paul Seminary. He was ordained on Oct. 7, 1944, at St. Paul's Cathedral. He served as an associate pastor at St. Stephen's Parish, Minneapolis, from February to June, 1945. He served at St. Stephen's Catholic Church at Anoka until 1947, at St. Patrick's Church at Shieldsville from 1951-1954 and as an administrative pastor until 1981. During his retirement, he worked on the family farm in Jessenland Township for the past 20 years.

Mabel Clobes, 96, of St. James, formerly of Fairfax, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Home in St. James
Services are 11 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fairfax, with burial in the church cemetery in Cairo Township, Renville County.
Visitation will be at the church two hours prior to the service.
Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her son Lloyd and wife Valeria Clobes of Lafayette; daughters, Dorothy Hauge of Minneapolis, Beverly and husband Wayne Bakke of St. James, and Bernice and husband Lee Hinds of Bismarck, N.D.; daughter-in-law, Marion Clobes of Fairfax; sisters, Hannah Bregel of Gibbon and Lucille Kiecker of Bethel, sister-in-law, Lydia Berger of Gaylord; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Armin on Sept. 23, 1936; son, Raymond in 1993; grandson, Gregory Hinds in 1990; brothers, Herbert and Harvey Berger, and sister Evelyn Martens.
She was born March 1, 1904, on the family farm in Moltke Township, Sibley County, to Otto and Anna (Damschen) Berger. She attended District 60 and Emanuel Parochial School, Wellington Township. On May 6, 1924, she married Armin Henry Clobes at Emanuel Lutheran Church. They farmed on the Clobes homestead farm in Wellington Township, Renville County, rural Fairfax. After her husband's death in 1936, she continued to live on the farm. She moved into Fairfax in 1951 and provided room and board for parochial school teachers and other people of the community. She worked at Renfair and Fairfax Community Home for 19 years before retiring in 1977. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax and was active in Ladies Aid and Senior Citizens. She became a resident of the Fairfax Community Home in 1995 and transferred to the Pleasant View Good Samaritan Home in St. James on Dec. 2, 1998.

Anna Schweiss, 95, of Fairfax, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Divine Providence Community Home, Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Fairfax, with burial in the church Cemetery, Cairo Township.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Fairfax. Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. and prayers at 7 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
She is survived by her children, Francis and Kay of Fairfax, Raymond and Diane of Hector, Mary and Marlyn Moldan of Hanska, Edward and Linda of Springfield and Elizabeth and Gilbert Varland of Hector; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Beck of Mapleton; sisters-in-law, Gala Homan of Sleepy Eye and Dorothy Beck of Mapleton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill in 1986, grandson; brother, John Beck; and sisters Elizabeth Beck and Agnes Peshina.
She was born Nov. 4, 1904, in Bird Island to Francis and Victoria "Dora" (Voltin) Beck. Her family moved to Bird Island and Mahnomen where they lived until her father died in 1919. The family returned to Fairfax, where she worked for several years before working in Minneapolis. She married William Schweiss on June 3, 1930 in Fairfax. They farmed in Wellington Township before retiring in 1960 and moving to Fairfax.

Walden Polesky, 81, of Hector, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Renville County Hospital in Olivia
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran Church in Hector with burial in the Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector, and continues one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
He is survived by brothers, Arnold Polesky and his wife Genevieve of Rochester, Edwin Polesky and his wife Dorothy of Sleepy Eye, Wilbert Polesky of Hector, and Emmanuel Polesky of Hector; sisters: Eveline Drill of Courtland, Evangeline Madsen and her husband Linus of Morgan, and Edwina Kiecker and her husband Victor of Fairfax; sister-in-law, Mary Polesky of Roseville; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother Maynard; brother, the Rev. Bernhard Polesky; and sister, Lorraine Polesky.
He was born Aug. 25, 1919, in Martinsburg Township, Renville County. Minnesota, to Hugo and Hildegard (Buboltz) Polesky. He attending school in Hector and graduated from Buffalo Lake High School. He farmed south of Hector. He played baseball for 30 years with the Hector Baseball Team.

Clarence Jensen, 85, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Sleepy Eye Hospital.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye. Burial is in the Brookville-Dannebod Cemetery with military rites by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, and continues one hour before services Thursday at the church.
He is survived by his children, Vionne Haenze of Westminster, Calif., son and daughter-in-law, Mylan and Lucy Findlay of Providence, R.I.; daughters and son-in-law, Janelle and Arthur Fox of New Ulm, Doris Dixon and John Pastre of Maple Grove and Lynette and Joseph Merrell of Palmdale, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; twin sister, Mildred Kuelbs of Sleepy Eye; sisters-in-law, Ruby Jensen of Morgan and Nellie Jensen of Sleepy Eye and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Majoria in 1997; brothers, Orvin, Everett, Norbert, Albert, and Sherman; and sister, Hertha.
He was born Sept. 25, 1915, in Evan to John and Clara (Schultz) Jensen. He attended school in Brookville Township and other country schools. He worked for are farmers and for Stimpert Enterprises in Sleepy Eye. He served in the southern Philippines with the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Majoria Albertson on Sept. 22, 1956, in Sleepy Eye. He worked for Del Monte for many years before retiring in 1977. He worked as a janitor at Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye American Legion and Sleepy Eye Honor Guard.

Leona McKnight, 87, of Gaylord, formerly of Good Thunder, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Lakeview Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church, Good Thunder. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Egesdal Funeral Home, Gaylord, and will continue at 9 a.m. Friday at the church.
She is survived by her daughters, Audre and husband, Luvern Quandt of Rochester, Corrine Uecker of Gaylord; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; stepson, Charles McKnight and wife, Barbara of Trinidad, Colo.; six stepgrandchildren; sister, Edna Dobie of Winnebago; brother, Frederick Stuemke and wife, Rosella of Mankato; sister-in-law, Marie Stuemke of New Germany; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Hiller, husband, Milton McKnight; son-in-law, Henry Uecker; step-daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Ken Pope; sister, Emma Iams; brother, Milton Stuemke.
She was born Dec. 23, 1912, near Truman to Wilbert and Louisa (Ladage) Stuemke. She moved to Springfield, Ill., with her parents and attended parochial school. She moved back to Minnesota with her parents, and they settled in Good Thunder. She graduated from Good Thunder High School in 1932. She married Paul Henry Hiller on Sept. 26, 1934, in Good Thunder. They lived in Good Thunder. He died Feb. 29, 1972. On May 22, 1982, she married Milton (Mac) McKnight in Good Thunder. They lived in Good Thunder and Mesa, Ariz., until his death on March 6, 1993. She has since lived in Gaylord. She worked at Sears Roebuck Co. in Mankato and also as a postal clerk and postmaster in Good Thunder with her husband Paul. She was a member of the Good Thunder Senior Citizens group and the Ladies Aid at St. John Lutheran Church.

Dorothy Otto, 70, of Gaylord, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Gaylord, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Fenske Family Funeral Home, Gaylord, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Friday.
She is survived by her husband, Ray; sons, Ron and wife Carol of Gaylord, Bob of Kasota; daughters, Janet and husband Brian Bents of Abrams, Wisc., Cyndi and husband Tim Forsythe of Big Lake, and Kristi Mathiowetz of Hutchinson; brother, Roger and wife Lorraine Just of Henderson; 16 grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter; and two sons-in-law.
She was born April 2, 1930, in Kelso Township, Sibley County, to Arthur and Myrtle (Seemann) Just. She was a 1948 graduate of Henderson High School and attended three years of college in St. Cloud and Mankato. She taught school for a short time, worked at Arlington Hospital as an aide, and worked at Hands Inc., Winthrop. She married Ray Otto on Aug. 23, 1950, in Henderson. She was a member of Kelso Home Extension, and Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid.

Wilbert A. Stern, 81, of Springfield, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at St. John Lutheran Home, in Springfield
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Springfield, with burial in Springfield City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, and at the church Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by son, Joe, and special friend Jolene of Springfield; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Terry Menter of Springfield; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Gladys of Moline, Ill.; and sisters Arlene VanRycke and Betty Van DeWyston, both of Moline, Ill., Bertha Nelson of Prescott, Wis., Leona Gunneson of Sleepy Eye, and Ruth Daluge of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris (Dolly) in 1997; daughter-in-law, Rae Jean; sister-in-law, Gladys; and brothers, Warren and Herman.
He was born May 30, 1919, in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, to Theodore and Elizabeth (Kosel) Stern. He attended rural school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II Pearl Harbor, from 1941-45. He married Doris Schnobrich on May 2, 1946, in Wanda. They farmed south of Sleepy Eye from 1960-65, and near Comfrey from 1965-72. He moved to Springfield and worked at Ochs Brick Company, Springfield and Del Monte Corporation of Sleepy Eye. He belonged to St. Paul Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 38 in Redwood Falls.

Donald J. Vogl, 75, of Morton, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at the Veterans Hospital, Minneapolis.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, with burial with military honors in the Morton City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Morton; daughters, Bernadine Rathman of Montrose and special friend Larry Salonek; Lois Schwab of Morton and special friend Chad Serbus; and Linda Schwab of Osseo and special friend Mike Scherber; two grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank of Morgan, Gerald and Marilyn of Morgan, Thomas and Carol of Monticello; sisters and brothers-in-law, Delores and Harold Seifert of Minneota, Alice and Bill Zaske of Maple Lake; and sister-in-law Grace Lothert of Morton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James; and an infant sister, Jeanette.
He was born July 12, 1945, in Three Lakes Township, Redwood County, to Frank and Anna (Heiling) Vogl. He attended District 92 and St. Michael's School in Morgan. He worked as a mechanic at the John Deere dealer in Morgan and did custom corn shelling in the area. He served in the U.S. Army with the 25th Medical Battalion in Yokohama, Japan, and Eighth Army motor pool from 1946-1947. He farmed with his brothers. He married Marilyn Bartz Schwab on Feb. 19, 1971, in Olivia. They lived in Morton. He belonged to St. John's Catholic Church. He was a former commander of the American Legion Post in Morton. He belonged to the VFW of Morgan and was past president of the Morton Lions Club.

Elaine Hubin, 82, of Buffalo Lake, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, and continues one hour before the service Saturday at the church.
