Glen Altenburg, 45, of Rochester, formerly of Madelia, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at his home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia, with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia, and at the church Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by children, Jennifer, Joshua and Katie, all of St. James; father and wife, Elmer and Adeline of Odin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marjorie and Charles Osborne of Bellingham, Wash., and Kay and Brian Huebert of Waseca; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Gerald of Minneapolis and Robert and Angie of Madelia; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother; a sister, Darlene; and his grandparents.
He was born Jan. 1, 1955, to Elmer and Juanita (Pahl) Altenburg in New Ulm. He grew up in Amboy and Madelia. He graduated from Madelia High School in 1974. He married Louise Lundquist. They lived in St. James where he worked as an auto mechanic.

Dale Beerman, 67, of Sanborn, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at his home in Germantown Township, Cottonwood County.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Sanborn, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at the Sturm Funeral Home, Lamberton, and at the church Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Julie Harris of Nashville, Tenn.; two stepgrandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Cleo Beerman of Lamberton; sister, Irma Monson of Lynwood, Wash.; and nine nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Monson.
He was born June 4, 1932, to Albert and Martha (Tesch) Beermann in Germantown Township, Cottonwood County. He attended school in Sanborn and worked on the family farm. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55. Then he returned to the farm and worked for Scheffler Construction. He belonged to the Sanborn American Legion and Zion Lutheran Church, Sanborn.

Bernice E. Deinhart, 91, of St. James died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at St. James Health Services Hospital.
Services is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato.
Visitation will be 8-10 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James.
She is survived by a son, Marvin of St. James; daughter, Rose and husband, Donald Stark of Moorhead; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Gorman of Wells; sister-in-law, Anna Deinhart of Guckeen; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Deinhart of St. James; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988 and an infant granddaughter, Anna.
She was born April 22, 1909, in Waukon, Iowa, to John and Elizabeth (Ward) Hinchon. She attended country school near Granada. She married Albert Deinhart on April 11, 1928, in Blue Earth. They farmed near Blue Earth and Lake Crystal before moving to Mankato in 1955. She worked at the Three Sisters clothing store in Mankato for several years. She moved to St. James in 1988.

Kathryn 'Kay' Herzog, 64 of Atlanta, Ga., died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000. at her home.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Saturday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She is survived by her mother, Adela Herzog of New Ulm; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Shirley Herzog of Alexandria, and Jerry and Maxine Herzog of New Ulm; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Herzog of New Ulm.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry F. Herzog; brother, Richard Herzog; and by nephew, Greg Herzog.
She was born Sept. 27, 1936, in New Ulm to Henry F. and Adela (Kopetzki) Herzog. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1954. She attended college at St. Benedict's in St. Joseph, University of Minnesota, and Minnesota School of Business. She worked as a secretary for the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, WCCO Radio, and the Minnesota Vikings. In 1965 she moved to Atlanta, Ga., where she worked for the Southern Tax Institute, the State of Georgia Veterans Affairs. She was currently working for the Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta.

Viola A. Thulien, 72, of St. James died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at her home.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. James. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James, and will also continue for one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by her children, Greg and wife, Judy of St. James, Cheryl and husband, Ronald Peters of Windom, Karen and husband, Orvil Klassen of Mountain Lake, Rick of St. James, Renae and husband, Doug Meyer of Butterfield; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Aurelia Westman of St. James; sisters-in-law, Madelyn Schlomann of Fairmont, Adelia Schlomann of Mankato, Violet Schlomann and Lynn Schlomann of St. James; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers, Carl, Edwin, Harry, Helmuth, Wilbert and Roy.
She was born Sept. 30, 1928, in South Branch Township, to Albert and Clara (Sodeman) Schlomann. She married Alden Thulien on April 9, 1950, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. James. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid and the VFW Auxiliary.

Lydia A. Woller, 84, of Gaylord, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church-Mountville in rural Gaylord, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Fenske Family Funeral Home in Gaylord, and will continue at the church Monday one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her husband, Victor Woller of Gaylord; sisters, Olga Sylvester and Adela Spiering of Gaylord; a brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Allina Laabs of Winthrop; brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Leon Black of Fairfax, and Vernon and Gladys Woller of Winthrop; and ten nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alma Furst, and two other sisters in infancy; a sister-in-law, Adelheid Black; and brothers-in-law, Fred Furst, Raymond Sylvester and Herbert Spiering.
She was born Feb. 6, 1916, in Transit Township, Sibley County, to Otto and Anna (Alsleben) Laabs. She married Victor Woller on Dec. 18, 1940, at the Laabs family residence in Transit Township. She was a homemaker and worked for the Fingerhut Corporation for 23 years, from 1959 to 1981.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church-Mountville and its Ladies Missionary Society.

Donald Nothwehr, 76, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Mankato, with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Amboy.
Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary, and at the church Monday, one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or donor's choice.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Mankato; sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Christine of Naperville, Ill., and Tim of Bloomington; daughters and a son-in-law, Cindy and Tom Salsbery of Mankato and Mary Kay Penaloza of Liverpool, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; a brother, William Nothwehr of Albert Lea; a sister-in-law, Esther Nothwehr of Gaylord; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marnee Nothwehr; and three brothers.
He was born Sept. 4, 1924 to William and Martha (Brammer) Nothwehr in Lake, S.D. He graduated from Gaylord High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943-46, aboard the USS Mt. McKinley in the South Pacific. He married Mary Otterstein on Sept. 21, 1947 in Amboy. He graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Business. He sold insurance for State Farm for 31 years. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church as a teacher, elder and president of the congregation. He was past president of the Mankato Sertoma Club and was twice president for Minnesota District Sertoma Clubs. He also volunteered on the North Mankato Chamber of Commerce, RSVP, Hot Meals on Wheels, and PTA. He was also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Harriet Anderson, 92, of Cokato, formerly of Belgrade, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at Cokato Manor.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Belgrade, with burial in the Methodist Cemetery, Belgrade.
Visitation will be at the church Tuesday, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Richard Sonstegard of Howard Lake and Kathy and Jim Wiethoff of Gibbon; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Richard 'Dick' Anderson, 70, of Redwood Falls, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with burial to follow at the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at the Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley H. Anderson of Redwood Falls; a son Richard S. Anderson, Jr. of Sioux City, Iowa; daughters, Vicki and Tom Mielke of Menasha, Wis., and Beth and Russell Austin of Odenton, MD; three grandchildren; and a brother Robert Anderson of Anaheim, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant grandson, Micah Anderson Mielke; and sisters, Janice Manning and Joyce Anderson.
He was born March 29, 1930 in Minneapolis to Stuart and Vera (Parker) Anderson. As an infant, he moved with his family to Redwood Falls. He graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1948 and for a time, attended Luther College. For the next few years, Dick was active in the National Guard Unit of Redwood Falls, and he played in the 47th Division Army Band. He worked as a salesman out of Minneapolis, returning to Redwood Falls in 1953 to join his father at Stu's Grocery. On Dec. 20, 1955 he married Shirley Huselid in Renville. For a time he operated the Morton Market and later, Dick's Jack and Jill in Redwood Falls. He eventually returned to sales where he was involved with Farm Wholesale and Wood & Conn.
He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, where he was confirmed and as an adult, and joined the church choir. He was active in city politics, serving as councilman for 24 years and mayor of Redwood Falls for 12 years. He had served on the Public Utilities Commission and the Redwood Falls TV Commission.

Theron Hendley, 74, of rural Nicollet died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000 at his home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato with burial in the Hebron Cemetery in rural Judson.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Monday at the Landkamer Johnson-Boman Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by wife Carolyn of rural Nicollet; three daughters Ann and David Bode of Nicollet, Karen and Gary Murray of LeCrescent and Connie and Tom Clark of Cleveland; two sons Doug and Judy of Nicollet and Brady and Vicki of Nicollet; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister Alice Hodson; one brother Gerald "Heinie" and Donna of Maple Plain and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; a son, Thomas, and a brother-in-law, Bill Hodson.
He was born July 29, 1926 in Mankato to Gerald and Rose (Schumard) Hendley. A lifelong resident of the Nicollet area, he attended Nicollet High School. He married LaRene Wagner in February 1946. LaRene preceded him in death in 1957.
On Jan. 23, 1959, he married Carolyn Uppstrom in Mankato. He farmed in rural Nicollet.
He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Osman Temple of the Mankato Shriners, Mankato T-Birds, Masonic Lodge, Eagles Club 269, American Quarter Horse Association. As a young man he played baseball for the Nicollet City Team.

Lucille 'Lucy' Neid, 64, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000 at her home in Glencoe.
Services were held Saturday, at the church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, with burial in the Glencoe Catholic Cemetery.
Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe was in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband Alois Neid of Glencoe; children Elizabeth and Jon Wachter of Mankato, Robert and Susan Neid of Glencoe, Mary and Louis Smoldt of Glencoe, Kevin and Shelly Neid of Glencoe, Leon and Lori Neid of Scottsdale, Ariz, Debra and Curtis Montgomery of Cottage Grove; 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers and sisters Deloris and Alois Fink of Fairfax, Lennis Matter of Springfield, Dennis and Shirley Matter of Springfield, Vernon Matter of Sanborn, Barbara and Milo Christenson of Morgan, Mary Alice Meyer of Big Lake, Diane and Arthur of Plato, John and Audrey Matter of Springfield; JoAnn and Michael Johnston of Cushing, Wis.; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Agnes Fromm of Sleepy Eye, Bernard Neid of St. James, Joseph and Joyce Neid of Sleepy Eye, Marie and Thomas Kelly of Frankenmuth, Mich., and many nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Anna Matter.
She was born the daughter of Charles and Anna (Groebner) Matter on May 17, 1936 in Springfield. She attended country school in rural Springfield through the eighth grade.
She married Al Neid on Jan. 20, 1955 at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. They lived in rural Glencoe until moving into town in 1973, they have lived at their current residence since 1994.
She supported her brothers who were in the armed forces by becoming a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Sylvia (Mrs. Walter) Polzin, 98, of New Auburn, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000 at the Arlington Good Samaritan Center in Arlington.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn with burial in the High Island Cemetery in New Auburn.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30 -8:30 a.m. Monday at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by daughters, Deloris Steffl of Sleepy Eye, Arlene and Merlin Overlie of Hutchinson, Eleanor and Donald Marth of Gaylord;,Beata Polzin of Glencoe, and Carol Mae Polzin and husband Edward Magnuson of New Brighton; sons, Lawrence and Carole Polzin of Gaylord, and Robert and Naomi Polzin of Hutchinson; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Mielke of Hutchinson; 21 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Walter in 1987, a daughter Dorothy Polzin, and sons Marvin and Willard; a son-in-law Les Steffl; a grandson Steven Polzin; sisters, Lilian Boelter and Gertrude Briese-Lunderberg; brothers, William and John Wegner and four great-grandchildren who died in infancy.
She was born Oct. 7, 1902 to Julius and Ida (Laasch) Wegner in Grafton Township, Sibley County. She married Walter Polzin on May 25, 1925 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Round Grove, Township. Following their marriage, they farmed in New Auburn Township until 1959 when they moved to New Auburn.
She was a member of the New Auburn's Immanuel Lutheran Church and WELCA. She was a past member of the New Auburn Wonder Club and the New Auburn Senior Citizen's Group. She has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Arlington since 1992.

Frieda Quast, 86, of Gaylord, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at the Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord with burial in the Arlington Public Cemetery in Arlington.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. at the Fenske Family Funeral Home, Gaylord and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by a daughter,Marlene and husband Dale Brown of Grand Rapids; sisters, and brothers-in-law, Esther Becker of Gaylord, Selma and Lewis Peetsch of Glencoe, Gertrude Stiehm of Winthrop and Werner Quast of LeCenter, six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin; sons, Raymond and Darvin; grandchildren, Theresa and Jeffrey, and one brother, Alfred Otto.
She was born Oct. 24, 1913 in Gaylord to Albert and Selma (Hedrick) Otto.
She married Marvin Quast on June 15, 1936, in Gaylord. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Gaylord Senior Citizens and volunteered at the Gaylord Lakeview Home.
