Evelyn Michaletz, 90, of Sunset Apartments in New Ulm and formerly of 926 N. Jefferson in New Ulm died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000 at Immanuel - St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Friday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Cathedral. St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Council will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joann and Willard Bastian of New Ulm; son, Donald Michaletz of Eagan; Margaret Michaletz of Owatonna; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Marian Huesmann of Albert Lea; brother and sister-in-law, Stan and Hazel Schneider of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Josephine Schneider of Falls City, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Michaletz on Nov. 12, 1978; brothers, George Schneider, James Schneider, Richard Schneider; and granddaughter, Mary Margaret Michaletz in infancy.
She was born on May 19, 1910, in New Ulm to August and Josephine (Haag) Schneider. She married John Michaletz on June 24, 1930, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. They lived in New Ulm. She worked as a cook at the New Ulm Country Club and for Holy Trinity School. She and Ceil Reimer started the hot lunch program at Holy Trinity School. She had been a Turner Lady at the Turner Hall and a Gray Lady for the American Red Cross for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Christian Mothers Society, St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Council, St. Monica's Guild and the Ministry of praise prayer group.

Philip A. Sellner Sr., 81, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at the Sleepy Eye Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in the church cemetery with military rites by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. and a K.C. Rosary at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine, of Sleepy Eye; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen Hansen of Rogers, Ark., Rose Marie and friend Tom Schaefer of Madelia, Mary Beth and Chuck Botz of Sleepy Eye, Bernadette and Bernard Windschitl of Houston, Minn., Anita and Glen Jensen of Springfield, Frances and fiancee Mark Gores of Sleepy Eye, Donna and Tony Steward of Sioux City, Iowa; sons and daughters-in-law, Philip Jr., Joseph, Michael and Vicky, all of Sleepy Eye; 13 grandchildren; a sister, Leona Seidl of Sleepy Eye; a brother, Andrew of Sleepy Eye.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Dorothea and Patricia; sons-in-law, Kelly Schroeder and Ron Hansen; sisters-in-law, Helen Sellner and Dorothy Krzmarzick; brothers-in-law, Leonard Seidl, Roman Krzmarzick, Louis Forster, Melvin Krzmarzick and Ollie Neudecker.
He was born Oct. 22, 1919, in Mulligan Township to Andrew and Minnie (Reiniger). He graduated from St. Mary's High School. He worked at A.J. Pietrus & Sons in Sleepy Eye before he was inducted into the Army Air Force. He was an airplane mechanic for P-38s involved in photo reconnaissance over Luzon, the southern Philippines and New Guinea. He married Catherine Wiltscheck on May 26, 1948. They farmed north of Sleepy Eye in Home and Eden townships. One of his patented inventions is still being used by his sons on their farms. He served on the parish council and was a lector and eucharistic minister at St. Mary's Catholic Church. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus, DAV, VFW and American Legion.

Sylvia Mae Bode, 68, of Temple City, Calif., and formerly of Nicollet died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at the Arcadia Methodist Hospital in Arcadia, California.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Courtland with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Saturday until time of the service at the church.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Marjorie and Richard Holder of Whittier, Calif., Eileen and Delbert Dallmann of New Ulm, and Floren and Robert Gaffaney of Minnetonka; brother and sister-in-law, David A. and Ann Bode of Nicollet; eight nieces and nephews; and five great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Frederick Bode.
She was born Sept. 8, 1932, in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County, to Alfred W. and Esther (Compart) Bode. She attended grade school in Nicollet and the Immanuel Lutheran school in rural Courtland. She graduated from Nicollet High School in 1950. She graduated from the Bethany College in Mankato in 1952. She received a master's degree from Mankato State College. She taught in the parochial school system for the past 45 years. She taught in Watertown, Lakefield, Faribault, and Central Lutheran School in St. Paul. In 1986 she taught for two years at Blythe, Calif., and then at Monrovia, California, where she was also principal.

Gladys F. Christensen, 90, of Redwood Falls, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at Sunwood Good Samaritan Center, Redwood Falls.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Redwood Valley Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery, Dovray.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She is survived by sons, Rodney and wife JoAnn of Mountain Lake, Ronald and wife Liz of Marshall, and Roger and special friend Jan of Fairmont; daughter, Mary Monsrud and husband Bud of Redwood Falls; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother; two sisters; two grandchilden; and one great-grandchild.
She was born Jan. 5, 1910, in Avoca, to Anton and Mary (Admundson) Finstad. She attended country school and one year of commercial college in Mankato. She married Alvin Christensen on April 9, 1930, in Avoca. The couple lived in Avoca for a few years, until moving to South Dakota, where they farmed. They later moved to Canby, where she worked as a waitress and nurses aide. Alvin died in 1965. She moved to Redwood Falls in 1985. She has lived at Sunwood Care Center since 1991. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church, Morgan.

Walter Kuehn, 92, of Echo, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at Weiner Memorial Hospital, Marshall.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Echo, with burial in Echo Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Sunset Funeral Home, Echo, and will continue one hour prior to services Friday at the church. There will be a prayer service 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his children, Burton and wife Carroll of Belview, Jane Garvin and husband Thomas of Echo, and Roger and wife JoAnn of Bemidji; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Clara Roepke of Stewart, and Ella Kuehn of Belview; and brothers, Arthur of Echo and George and wife Marian of Renville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elvira; brothers, Paul, Alexander, William, Gerhold, and Harold; and sisters, Emma, Alma, Lorena, and Viola.
He was born Sept. 16, 1908, in Echo Township, Yellow Medicine County, to Alexander and Bertha (Muenchow) Kuehn. He attended country school District 18. He married Elvira Schnackenberg on June 18, 1942, in Echo. They farmed in rural Echo Township until retiring in 1975, when they moved to Echo. Elvira died April 3, 1996. He moved to Parkview Home, Belview, in 1996. He was an active member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, and served as chairman of the building committee.

Margaret Nichtern, 79, of Madelia, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Madelia Community Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Madelia, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and continues one hour before the service at the church.

Edwald Wellnitz, 94, of Sleepy Eye, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Divine Providence Community Home, Sleepy Eye.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, with burial in Eden Methodist Cemetery, Morgan.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his sister, Frieda Bohlmann of Arendsee, Germany; cousins, H. Albert and wife Erna Wellnitz of Sleepy Eye, Reuben Bluhn of Franklin, Lois and husband Orlin Rieke of Morgan, Orlin Tolsman of Minneapolis, Gladys Nelson of Springfield, and Florence Wendt of Morris; and nephews and nieces.
He was born Oct. 21, 1906, in Rhuden, Germany, where he grew up and attended school. He moved to the United States at the age of 16 and settled in Sleepy Eye. He moved to Breckenridge, where he farmed. He returned to Sleepy Eye where he lived with his cousin and worked at Del Monte. He also did farm work for Russ Christensen and others in the area. After retiring he moved to Franklin. He later moved to Franklin Health Care Center, and later Divine Providence Community Home.

Cinthra Cazett, 78, of Lamberton died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Presbyterian Home of Arden Hills, Arden Hills from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior"s Lutheran Church, Lamberton. Burial will be in Lamberton Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, Lamberton; and continues one hour before services at the church.
Survivors include her children, Charles (Chuck) and wife, Jane Cazett of Elk River, Kathy and husband, Dick Callinan of Arden Hills, James (Jim) and wife, Linda Cazett of Ramsey, Dale and wife, Michele Cazett of Elk River, Julie and husband, Andre Audette of Oakdale; former son-in-law, William Hakes of Avon; 16 grandchildren; sister, Edith and husband, John Baumann of Lamberton; brother, Leo and wife, Marge Anderson of Redwood Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles 'Bud' Cazett in 1986 and daughter Shirley Hakes in 1996.
She was born Feb. 26, 1922, in Jackson County, Minn., to Charley and Bertha (Wallin) Anderson. She moved with her family to rural Storden, attended country school and graduated from Storden High School in 1941. She worked as a housekeeper for various families. On March 17, 1943, she married Charles Cazett in Storden. They farmed west of Lamberton and moved into town in 1970. She worked for Valley View Manor for more than 17 years. She was a long-term member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and had been a member of the Lamberton Community Ambulance Service for many years.

Lillian Ludewig, 87, of Morgan, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at Gil-Mor Manor Nursing Home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

She is survived by daughter Nell Erb of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Lec Tovar of Pensacola, Fla., and Nancy Lee Nessler of Mission, Texas; and brother Norman Lee of Peach Tree City, Ga.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Burton and Richard; and sister, Carole Feder.
She was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Madelia, to Walter and Bertha (Wilde) Lee. She grew up in rural Madelia, where she attended rural schools. She graduated from Madelia High School. She married Harry Nichten in 1940. She lived in Mankato for several years, where she managed several clothing retail stores. After retiring she returned to Madelia in 1990. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Orlen V. 'Orley' Seemann, 71, of rural Arlington. died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at the Arlington Municipal Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Henderson with burial in the New Rome Cemetery in Arlington Township.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the Kolden Funeral Home at Henderson and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; sons John and Linda Nikiski, Alaska, and Bill Seemann of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter, Peg and Kevin Kamps of Henderson; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Donald and Mary Seemann of Arlington.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister.
He was born on March 28, 1929, in Sibley County to Vincent and Della (Schuetz) Seemann.
He attended Arlington public schools and farmed in Kelso Township for many years.
He married Jeanette Thompson on Aug. 24, 1951, at Tower. For a short time in the late 1960s they lived at Evelyth. He retired from farming due to ill health. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Henderson and had been a member of the church council. He was also a former clerk for Kelso Township.

Fern Strom, 101, of Gibbon, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Fairfax Community Nursing Home.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop, with burial in Clear Lake Methodist Cemetery, Cornish Township, Sibley County.
Visitation is one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
She is survived by daughter, Carol Anderson of Buffalo Lake; grandsons, Joel Anderson and wife Ceci of Carlsbad, Calif., and Paul Anderson and wife Sue of St. Louis Park; great-grandchildren, Ben, Sam, and Jane Anderson; sister Mary Halverson of Janesville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; brothers, Ben and Vernon Phillips; and sister, Lou Westberg.
She was born March 8, 1899, in Arcola, Ill., to Burris Stokes and Ida Mae (Divens) Phillips. They moved to Winthrop while she was a child. She graduated from Winthrop High School in 1918. She attended Asbury Medical School (now Methodist Hospital), Minneapolis, where she graduated in 1922 as a Registered Nurse. He worked as a nurse at Union Hospital, New Ulm, until 1928. She married Carl Strom on March 15, 1928, in Clear Lake. They lived and farmed in Cornish Township, Sibley County. They retired in 1954 and moved to Gibbon. She moved to Fairfax Community Home in 1990. She was a member of Clear Lake Methodist Church until it dissolved in the 1990s. She was active with the church women.

Irene L. Bohm, 81, of St. James died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Augustana Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children Luverne Bohm of Boulder, Colo., Richard Bohm of Wheatland Wyo., Carol and Leo Rentz of Moose Lake, Ruth Cunningham of Minneapolis, and David and Wendy Bohm of Osakis; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; brothers, Henry Carstensen of Madelia, V.K. (Sarge) Carstensen of Mankato, Norman Carstensen of Marshall and Harold Cartensen of San Antonio, Texas; and sisters Rosella Jacobson of Albert Lea and Vi Anderson of Madelia.
She was preceded in death by her husband Helge W. Bohm in 1985 and sisters Helen in 1935, Norma in 1997 and a brother G.L. (Butch) in 1998.
She was born May 19, 1919 in Todd County, Long Prairie to Thomas and Rosa (Rabe) Carstensen. She moved with her parents to Watonwan County in 1921, attending Dist. 43 and 58 rural schools and for a time, St. Paul's Parochial School.
She married Helge W. Bohm on July 18, 1938 in Estherville, Iowa. They built a home in Highland Park, where they lived until 1946. They moved to Lewisville for a short time, to South Branch moving to St. James in 1950, where she remained until 1995, when she chose to move from her apartment to Pleasant View Good Samaritan home.
She was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James in 1939 and she was active in the Ladies Aid and Church Circles. She worked in various households, taking in ironing for many years and she cooked at the A & W until she took a job as a meat wrapper at Ralph's Super Valu in 1966. She also worked at the Hiway Market until she retired in 1977.

Margareth Westad, 81, of Parkers Prairie, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000 at St. William's Living Center, Parkers Prairie.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Parkers Prairie, with burial in Swedish Lutheran Cemetery, Parkers Prairie Township, Otter Tail County.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Markham Funeral Home, Parkers Prairie. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Halverson and husband Richard of New Ulm; a son, Luther and wife Barb of Vining; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harris in 1999; her parents; and brother Harley.
She was born July 14, 1919 in Woodside Township, Otter Tail County, to Henry and Christine (Nelson) Larson. She attended country school and graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in 1936. She attended business college in Minneapolis, where she later worked. She returned to Parkers Prairie and worked at First National Bank for several years. She also worked at Bethany Home, Alexandria. She married Harris A. Westad on June 25, 1949 in Parkers Prairie. They farmed in Elmo Township until 1988, when they moved into Parkers Prairie. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the church council LCW, Bible study circle, and was a Sunday school teacher.
