Ellen C. Benson, 89, of Kandiyohi died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at Rice Memorial Hospital, Willmar.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Ebenezer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kandiyohi. Burial will be 3 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, rural Morgan.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home, Willmar, and will continue one hour before services Monday at the church.

Jeanette Elean Remker, 71, of St. James died Nov. 18, 2000, at Immanual-St. Joseph Hospital, Mankato.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, St. James. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by daughters, Linda and husband, Rodney Eldevik of Alexandria, Deborah and husband, Brad Romsdahl Of New Prague; sons, Mark Remker of Hayward and Jack Remker of St. James; eight grandchildren, one great grand-daughter; brothers, Harold and wife, Caroline Dougherty of Mankato, Carl and wife, Rose Dougherty of Northfield; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters, Dorothy Pittman and Margarette Nelson; brothers, Harry, Eugene, Bob and Ed Dougherty.
Jeanette Remker was born Feb. 18, 1929 in Butterfield, daughter of Eugene and Pearl (Curry) Dougherty. She received her education in Butterfield Public Schools, and she graduated from Butterfield High School. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, St. James. On July 14, 1947, she married Eugene "Jack" Remker at First Presbyterian Church In Butterfield. The couple lived in St. James, where she provided daycare for area children. He died Aug. 23, 2000.

Viola Schroeder, 92, of New Ulm died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at New Ulm Medical Center, New Ulm.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet, with burial in the church cemetery in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10:30 a.m. at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. It will continue for one hour prior to services at the church Monday.
Schroeder is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Donald Schwecke of Gibbon, Evelyn and Virgil Bode of Nicollet, Irene and Melvin Eichstadt of Albert Lea, Margaret and Kenneth Biesterfeld of Crete, Ill., and Ruth and Michael Wiechmann of New Berlin, Wis.; 35 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Edna and Willard Arndt of Janesville, and Harriet and Ray Boerger of Nicollet; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Irene Voges of Courtland, and Ray and Barb Voges of Bemidji; sisters-in-law, Arline Voges of Courtland, Betty Dally of Pequot Lakes, Ida Maas, a resident of Grandview Care Center in St. Peter, Martha Schouviller of St. Peter, Marie Schroeder of North Mankato, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Val Schroeder of Nicollet.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur Schroeder in 1977; a daughter, Viola in 1940 in infancy; by her grandsons, Dale Schwecke and Jonathan Biesterfeld; sisters, Gertrude Macho, Agnes Otto, and Esther Voges in infancy; brothers, Leonard Voges and Harold Voges.
Viola Schroeder was born April 16, 1908, in Courtland Township, Nicollet County to George and Martha (Wels) Voges. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School in rural Courtland.
On Nov. 20, 1928, she married Arthur Schroeder at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Courtland. They lived in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County.
After the death of her husband, she moved into New Ulm. She has been a resident of Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm since May 1997.
She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet and a member of the Ladies Guild at the church.

Reinhold 'Reine' Gieseke, 82, of rural New Ulm died Saturday, November 18, 2000 at his home.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brighton Township, Nicollet County, with burial in the City Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Wednesday.
Reine is survived by his wife, Mildred "Millie" Gieseke of rural New Ulm; a daughter, LeAnn Bloemke and her fiance, Bob Wallish both of Lake Forest, Calif.; sons, Gary Gieseke and his wife Donna of rural New Ulm, and Danny Gieseke and his wife Monica of rural New Ulm; three grandchildren; a great grandson; brothers and sisters, Edwin Gieseke and his wife Leanora of rural Courtland, Alma Voges of Courtland, Erna Schugel of New Ulm, Leorda Marxhausen of Bloomington, Myrtle Fischer of New Ulm, Bill Gieseke and his wife, Betty of New Ulm, Gerald Gieseke and his wife, Delores of Mahnomen, Vernon Gieseke and his wife Myrtle of New Ulm, James Gieseke and his wife, Maureen of New Ulm, Marie Leinberger and her husband, Allen of Beverly Hills, Fla.; sisters-in-law, June Gieseke of Fosston, Evelyn Gieseke of Henderson, Hertha Moe of Springfield, Pearl Heymann of Rochester, and Charlotte Penkert of New Ulm; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; a grandson, Michael Gieseke; and by brothers, Marlin Gieseke, and Lorenz Gieseke.
Reine was born Feb. 26, 1918 in Brighton Township, Nicollet County to William D. and Marie W. (Ulrich) Gieseke. He attended country school in Brighton Township, Nicollet County. On May 27, 1942 he married Mildred Penkert at the Friedens Church in New Ulm.
He farmed his entire life in Nicollet County. He was a member of the Bernadotte Township Board for 37 years, was an avid bowler and was named to the New Ulm Bowling Hall of Fame in 1985. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brighton Township, Nicollet County.

Henry L. Garrett, 73, of Redwood Falls, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at his home.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church, Redwood Falls. Burial will be in Redwood Falls Cemetery. Redwood Valley Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, in handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Janice of Rewood Falls; children, Thomas Garrett and wife, Sanet of Texas, Jerry Garrett and wife, Linda of Shorewood, Patti Fiedler and husband, Dan of Springfield, Peggy Marron of Chanhassen, Penny Garret of Chanhassen, Pamela Lobejko and husband, Mike of Coon Rapids; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jackie.
Henry Lyle Garrett was born Jan. 21, 1927, in Sykeston, N.D., to Jack and Charlotte (Lacy) Garrett. He attended country school there until he entered the service in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the service, he married Janice Ecklund on Aug. 24, 1947, in New Rockford, N.D. They lived in Carrington, N.D., until 1968, when they moved to Redwood Falls.
Garrett was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Eagles Club and the Redwood Country Club.

Alma D. Hasse, 91, of Nicollet died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000 at the Lake Crystal Health Care Center, Lake Crystal, where she had lived for the past 1 1/2 years.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mankato, with burial in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or School or donor's choice.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin E. Hasse; a son and his wife, Glenn and Beverly Hasse of Mankato; a foster daughter and her husband, Virginia and Tollof Shellum of Nicollet; two granddaughters and their husbands, Dawn and Mark Redlin of Madison Lake, Debra and Paul Heinze of Eau Claire, Wis.; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Hertha Dauer of Nicollet; nephews, nieces and cousins,
She was preceded in death by five sisters, one brother and a grandniece, Bonnie Mae Johnson.
She was born July 6, 1909 in Nicollet to Otto and Matilda (Netzki) Mieske. She was a lifetime resident of Nicollet. She married Edwin E. Hasse on Sept. 26, 1934 in Nicollet. She was a cook at the Mankato Normal School from 1926 to 1934.
Alma and her husband owned and operated the GambleSkogmo Grocery and Hardware Store in Nicollet for 53 years. She had been a member of the Nicollet Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Mankato and had been a former member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid in Nicollet.

Jack D. Redfearn, 69, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Arlington, after a two-year battle with cancer.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Green Isle. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Chaska.
He is survived by his wife, Dulane; son, Brad of St. Paul; daughter, Holly Haugo and husband Craig, of Gilbert, Ariz.; three grandchildren; a sister, Mary Emma Meadows of Inglis, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Donna Litfin of Chaska, Florence Redfearn of Fairfield, Ill.; nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Omer, and mother, Lena, three sisters and one brother.
He was born Nov. 24, 1930, in McLeansboro, Ill., son of Omer and Lena (Daily) Redfearn. He graduated from McLeansboro Township High School in 1949. He signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates farm team after high school. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951 and served until 1955. While stationed in Norfolk., Va., he met Dulane Litfin and they married on May 23, 1953, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Chaska. He attended Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., and graduated in 1958. They moved to Green Isle in 1959, where he got his first teaching assignment at the Green Isle Elementary school. Later, as Green Isle Elementary Principal, he taught junior high math and science along with physical education to all grade levels. In 1981, he was selected teacher of the year and was nominated for Minnesota teacher of the year. He then went to Arlington when the schools consolidated in 1978. He coached girls and boys basketball and boys basketball. After 33 years of teaching, he retired in 1992, but still substituted at Sibley East for another six years.
He volunteered as Civil Defense Director, Fire Department President, Green Isle Sportsman's Club - Treasurer, Green Isle Lions Club President, St. Paul's Lutheran Church 50th Anniversary Booklet Chairmen and Bi-Centennial CoChairman, and Green Isle Irish Assistant Baseball Manager.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Green Isle.

Marion Weckwerth, 84, of Arlington, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at Arlington Municipal Hospital, Arlington.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church, Arlington. Burial will be in Arlington Public Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Fenske Funeral Home, Arlington. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Weckwerth of Arlington; a son, Allen and wife, Darlene, of Arlington; daughters, Lois and husband, Craig Witchall of Duluth, Audrey and husband, Richard Vernon of Edina, Nellene and husband, Stuart Missing of Minnetonka; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Floyd Flantz.
Marion Weckwerth was born April 6, 1916, in Kelso Township, Sibley County, daughter of William and Lydia (Fisher) Flantz. She attended rural schools. On June 11, 1939, she married Walter Weckwerth at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sibley Township. She was a home maker and helped her husband with farming in Kelso Township. In 1990, they left the farm to move to a new home in Arlington.

Jerome Klingler, 81, or rural New Ulm, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000 at Redwood Falls Hospital.
A private family service will be held later this week at Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm.
Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
He is survived by his wife Mary; sons, Howard of Mankato, Ralph of Estherville, Iowa, and Kenneth and wife Laurie of New Ulm; four grandchildren; sister-in-law Georgine Rubie and husband James of New Ulm; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Martin.
He was born May 6, 1919 in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County, to Fred and Anna (Walser) Klingler. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school and St. George Catholic Church, Barnesville. He farmed all his life in Lafayette and West Newton Townships on a farm that was awarded "A Century Farm" at the Nicollet County Fair in 1996 because it has been in the Klingler family for well over one hundred years. He was an inventor and held several patents. He was founder of Klingler Manufacturing Company, makers of farm machinery attachments, many of which he invented.

Lorene Savage, 92, of Sleepy Eye, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Season's Hospice, Rochester.
A private family service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 28, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish rosary 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are preferred to Season's Hospice, Rochester.
She is survived by sons, Rex and Linus, both of Rochester; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and sister, Claire Dalidio of San Luis Obispo, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James in 1947; son, Donald in 1990; brothers, Joseph, Eddie, and Clifford; and sisters, Bessie Maxson and Betty Jungles.
She was born Aug. 1, 1908, in Highmore, S.D., to Frank and Viola Niswander. She later moved to Sleepy Eye with her family. She married James Savage on Jan. 17, 1933 in Comfrey. They farmed in the Comfrey area and later moved to Sleepy Eye. She graduated from Sleepy Eye High School and Mankato State University. She taught 41 years in country schools and in New Ulm. She retired in 1974. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye; Teachers Retirement Association; Old Sleepy Eye Collector's Club of America; the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW; Christian Mothers; and Lady Foresters.

Harold E. Wiest, 58, of rural LeSueur died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sibley Township, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Kolden Funeral Home at LeSueur and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
He is survived by his wife, Ilene; sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Shelia Wiest of Byron, Gary and Paula Wiest of LeCenter, Lyle and Pam Wiest of LeSueur; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne (David) Lindorff of Henderson; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.
He was born on March 25, 1942, at Gaylord, to Elmer and Norma (Sontag) Wiest. He attended country school at Rush River, Union School. He graduated from LeSueur High School. He married Ilene Molash on Aug. 3, 1963, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Gaylord. He farmed the family Kelso Township farm in Sibley County until 1986. He was a truck driver for John Kline of Mapleton for two years and had been driving for Joe Hix Trucking of LeSueur for the last 15 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a Kelso Township supervisor, president of the Sibley County Officers Association and former member of the Region 9 Board.

Myrtle M. Hale, 98, formerly of Rt. 1 Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Sleepy Eye Care Center
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in the Fort Ridgely Cemetery in Cairo Township, Renville County.
Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Velma and Arnie Schweiss of New Ulm, Nancy and Paul Diederich of Broomfield, Colo.; son, Nathan Hale of Winona; daughter-in-law, Beverly Hale of New Ulm; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Mildred Tesrow of rural Sleepy Eye.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Hale; sons, Robert Hale, Harvey Hale and Joseph Hale; and daughters, Betty Hale and Opal Hale.
She was born on May 20, 192, in Home Township, Brown County, to Nathan and Abbie (Tewsksbury) Tesrow. She married Joseph Hale They farmed in Home Township. On April 17, 1984 she became a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye and had been a former member of American Legion Auxiliary in Sleepy Eye.

Lillian Ludewig, 87, of Morgan, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at Gil-Mor Manor Nursing Home, Morgan.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home Chapel, Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.
She is survived by her husband, Felix; children, Lois Bloemke of St. James, Frank Jones of Good Thunder, Evelyn and husband Bill Birkmeyer of Sleepy Eye, Harold Jones of Morgan, Helen Kimmel of Springfield, Fred and wife Marie Jones of Swansea, Ill., Edward and wife Bonnie Jones of Rochester, William and wife Sharon Jones of Rochester, Mary Helin of Fridley, Francis Jones of St. Peter, Robert Jones of New Ulm, Donald Jones of Mankato, and Virginia and husband Fred Coners of Springfield; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother Sam and wife Inez Hammond of Sleepy Eye.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Jones; daughters, Florence Jones and Emma Scherer; brother, Francis; and sister Gladys.
She was born Dec. 9, 1912, in Minneapolis, to Joe and Inez Hammond. She attended school in Minneapolis. She married Harold Jones on Feb. 21, 1931, in Redwood Falls. They lived in various places, mostly in the Sleepy Eye area. Following Harold's death in December 1952, she continued to live in the Sleepy Eye area. She married Felix Ludewig on Dec. 10, 1963, in Sleepy Eye. She moved to Gil-Mor Manor in June 1997.
