Mildred Caw, 80, of Wabasso, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at the Wabasso Health Care Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Wabasso, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, and Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and George Kerr of Rochester; five grandchildren; four great granddaughters; a brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Barbara Austin of Las Vegas, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John in 1989; two brothers, Robert and Donald; and a sister, Geraldine Tierney.
She was born April 20, 1920 in Lanesboro to Gordon and Elvina (Dent) Austin. She graduated from Lanesboro High School. She worked at Northwest Underwriters, Inc. in Chatfield. She married John H. Caw at Chatfield Sept. 20, 1941. They moved to Wabasso in 1949. She worked with insurance and tax preparation in Wabasso. She served on the church building committee and held Lutheran Church Women offices. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary.

Aletha Friton, 96, of Sleepy Eye, died Dec. 1, 2000, at Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Faith United Methodist Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery, rural Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, 7:30-9 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, and at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived her her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Eugene Schimshock of Chaska; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Dolores Friton of Sleepy Eye.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ellsworth; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Willard Brandl; a grandson; two sisters and one brother.
She was born Oct. 27, 1904 in Sleepy Eye to Frank Louis and Maud Louisa (Heath) Ebelsisor. She graduated from Sleepy Eye High School in 1923. She attended normal training and taught school for three years. She married Ellsworth "Pork" Friton on Oct. 20, 1927 in St. Paul. They farmed in Home Township until retiring and moving to Sleepy Eye in 1978. Ellsworth preceded her in death in 1998. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and Martha Circle in Sleepy Eye.

Ida Fruehling, 97, of Lamberton, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Valley View Manor, Lamberton.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jeffers, with burial in Jeffers Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the church and Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements are with Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home of Jeffers and Windom.
She is survived by a step son and step daughter, Andrew and Dolores of Sanborn; Minnie Elsing of Jeffers; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Otto, Paul and Friederich; two husbands; and a great grandchild.
She was born Jan. 18, 1903 to Emil and Hermine (Schoper) Wendland in Germantown Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota. She attended Dist. 35 rural school. She married William Bush and lived in Jeffers until he died in the 1950s. She married Edward A. Fruehling Nov. 23, 1968. They lived in Jeffers. She belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church. She worked at Jeffers State Bank and Trinity Lutheran Church as a janitor. Edward died in 1994. She belonged to the Westside Club. She moved to Valley View Manor in February 1999.

Arden Melzer, 63, of rural Hanska, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at the New Ulm Medical Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Military honors conducted by the Madelia American Legion Post # 19 and Madelia VFW Post #3 842.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 a.m. until the time of services Monday at funeral home.
Memorials are preferred to the Our Savior's Lutheran Church Youth Group.
Survivors include his sister, LaVerne Melzer and brother Henry Melzer, both of Hanska; a sister-in-law Audrey Melzer of Sleepy Eye; nephews, Howard Melzer and his wife Christie of New Ulm, James Melzer and his wife Mary of Eden Prairie, and Dale Johnson of Waterville; a great nephew, Jeremy Melzer and great niece, Megan Melzer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Jerold Melzer and nephew Darrell Johnson.
Julius Arden Melzer, the son of Henry and Gertie (Hanson) Melzer, Sr., was born March 15, 1937 in Madelia. He spent his youth on the family farm, attended country school, and graduated from Madelia High School in 1955. For three years, he studied at St. Olaf College in Northfield and the University of Minnesota. He entered the United States Army in 1961. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the Hanska area where he joined his father in raising purebred hogs. He continued producing, showing, and selling hogs until the mid 1980's. He was the recipient of many honors and trophies at national shows and sales for his work. He was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska and enjoyed working with youth, teaching Sunday School and Bible School. He also assisted 4-H and F.F.A. members with their various projects.

Richard Schneider, 61, of Lamberton, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Valley View Manor, Lamberton.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jeffers, with burial with military honors in Jeffers Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home, Jeffers and at the church Tuesday, from 9-10:30 a.m.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; a son and daughter and their spouses, Mark and Cindy of Oakdale, Vicki and Dan Flatgard of Bergen; three grandchildren; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lena and Wilbert Dehne of Lamberton; and a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Fern of Crystal.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Daniel (Mike) Maras.
He was born July 23, 1939 in Jeffers to Leslie and Mabel (Quade) Schneider. He graduated from Jeffers High School in 1957. He married Elaine Dehne in Revere July 30, 1960. They lived all their married life in Jeffers, except while he was in the U.S. Army when they lived at Fort Sill, Okla. He drove the bulk oil truck for Farmers Co-op Oil in Jeffers for 40 years. After retiring in 1997, he was a volunteer driver for the Veterans Administration and Western Community Action. He was an active member of Odegaard-Quade American Legion Post of Jeffers, Ruritan and was a volunteer fireman in Jeffers.

Steven Strusz, 37, of Fairfax, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Methodist Hospitalin Rochester.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Goodhue, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Goodhue.
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Monday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, and Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his parents Elroy and Shirley of Zumbrota; brother, Duane of Zumbrota; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and Allan Busby of Zumbrota and Diane and Joe Hickey of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was born Oct. 11, 1963 in Red Wing to Elroy and Shirley (Ebeling) Strusz. He graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1982. He graduated from Red Wing Vocational Technical Institute in 1984. He worked for Rural American Bank, Fairfax. He held offices in the Renville County Bankers Association; was Treasurer of Fairfax Civic and Commerce, planned and worked at Hoboken Days in Fairfax the last seven years, decorated the Fairfax train depot at Christmas time, and was involved with the Christmas Toy Drive for children in Fairfax.

Emojean 'Jean' Freeburg, 74, formerly of Walnut Grove, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at the Tracy Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Walnut Grove.
She is survived by children, and their spouses, Paula and Michael White of Vista, Calif., Douglas and Barb of Wauwatosa, Wis., David and Lori of Walnut Grove, and Jane and Mark Cygnet of Mission Viejo, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and her husband Conrad in January 1996.
She was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Joliet, Ill., to Merile and Alice (Nietz) Niner. She attended school in Joliet and graduated in St. Joseph Hospital of Nursing, Joliet. She worked as a nurse in Wickenberg, Ariz. She married Conrad Freeburg on Nov. 30, 1952 in Joliet. They moved to Walnut Grove where they spent their entire married life. She belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church, the Twentieth Century Club, Walnut Grove Flower Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Tracy Hospital Auxiliary.

Earl D. Nordwall, 78, of Trout Lake, Wash., died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Hood River Care Center, Hood River, Ore.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel Lutheran Church, White Salmon, Wash., with burial service 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14 at Crow River Lutheran Church Cemetery, Belgrade, Minn.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Foundation c/o Anderson Funeral Home, 1401 Belmont, Hood River, OR 97031.
Anderson Funeral Home, Hood River, was in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Marcia; sons, Scott of Minneapolis, Kim of Mankato, and Kurt of Marlon, Okla.; sisters, Lucy McCoy of White Salmon, and Elaine DeGarmo of Vista, Calif.; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was born July 17, 1922, in Braham, to John and Anna (Peterson) Nordwall. As a teenager he moved with his family to Hollywood. After graduating from high school he joined the Army Air Force, serving during World War II. He married Wanda Mae Larson, and settled in Minnesota, where he was involved in the dairy industry and owned restaurants. He later married Marcia Thorson in 1970. They owned restaurants in South Dakota; Leadville, Colo. and Trout Lake. They also operated an office cleaning service for a year and a half in Redding, Calif.

Stanley Goebel, 78, of Arlington, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Arlington Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Arlington, with burial with full military honors in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Fenske Funeral Home, Arlington, is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by daughter Lynn Burwell and husband Michael of Eagan; sons, Perry and wife Mavis of Kassan, Brad and wife Susan of Arlington, and Kevin and wife Susann of Norwood Young America; sister, Delores Hayes of Alaska; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Florence; and brother, David.
He was born Aug. 21, 1922, in Minneapolis, to Raymond and Carrie (Wiemann) Goebel. He married Florence Hall on Sept. 13, 1947, in Winthrop. He worked as a carpenter in the Arlington area. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-45, as a carpenter's mate first class, and was stationed near Normandy. He was a member of VFW Post 6031, Arlington.

Robert A. Lamecker, 70, of Elysian, formerly of Austin and New Ulm, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Elysian, with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Elysian, with full military honors by American Legion Post 311, Elysian.
Visitation is Thursday one hour prior to services at the church.
Parker Kohl Funeral Home, Faribault, is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by wife Betty; daughters, Lynn Moldenhauer of Austin, and Lisa and husband Daryl Johnson of Osage, Iowa; sons, Dennis and wife Dorothy of Skiatook, Okla., and James of Austin; six grandchildren; sister Grace and husband William Roberts of Elysian; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born Aug. 2, 1930, in New Ulm, to Arthur and Rose (Schreiner) Lamecker. He graduated from New Ulm High School in 1949. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, returning to New Ulm and working at Schell's Brewery. He married Betty Roberts on June 27, 1953, in Sleepy Eye. He worked over 29 years for LCL Transit, Green Bay, Wis., as an over-the-road truck driver. He retired in 1991. He was a member of American Legion Post 311, Elysian.

Luella L. Moeller, 86, of Winthrop, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Winthrop, with burial 3 p.m. in Springfield Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop, and will continue one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Donna Jean Morton, 57, of Winthrop, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Clear Lake Baptist Church, Severance Township, Sibley County, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Friday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop, and will continue one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Harold E. Timm, 95, of Wanda, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Valley View Manor, Lamberton.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Sanborn, with burial in St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery, Wabasso.
Visitation is 12:30-1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers; and three sisters.
He was born Feb. 7, 1905 in Waterbury Township, Redwood County, to Joseph and Anna (Luedtke) Timm. He attended country school and worked on the family farm. He married Augusta Marie Berg on May 18, 1936. They farmed in Willow Lake Township, near Wanda, until retiring in 1969. They moved to St. Paul, where they lived until his wife retired. They moved back to Wanda. His wife died Nov. 21, 1985, and he remained in Wanda, where he was known as the oldest resident of the community.

Hannah Marie Zahn, 79, of Northfield, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Northfield, with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Benson Funeral Home, Northfield.
She is survived by her husband Vernon; sons, David and wife Jenni of Chicago, and Roger and wife Anne of Shorewood; daughter Janet Zahn and husband Jeff Moe of Minneapolis; five grandchildren; sister, Norma and husband Glen Groth of Eagle River, Alaska; and brothers, Paul and wife Janet Dyste of Deerwood, and Rev. Gerald and wife Sonya Dyste of Forest City, Iowa.
She was born April 18, 1921, in Rutland, N. D., to Hans and Clara (Brostc) Dyste. She graduated from Excelsior High School and St. Olaf College. She married Vern Zahn in Abilene, Texas in 1944. They lived in New Ulm for 31 years. She taught Latin and English in Sleepy Eye for 17 years. They moved to Haines City, Fla., where they lived for 17 years, before moving to Northfield in 1995. She was a member of Northfield American Association of University Women and Dorcas Circle at St. John's Lutheran Church.
Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church or St. Olaf College.

Curt Dietz, 72, of Deer Lake, Wis., died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Dresser, Wisc., with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
He is survived by his wife Margaret; children, Margo and husband Jim Steffl, and Robert and wife Lori; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Henry; and sister-in-law, Dorothy.
He was born May 22, 1928, in New Ulm, to Henry and Edith Dietz. He graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College and Gustavus Adolphus College. He served in the military. He was a financial analyst for American Express and lived in Jackson. After retiring he moved to Deer Lake.
