Kenneth LeRoy Robinson
Julia Pugliese of Proctor is mourning the death of her son Kenneth LeRoy Robinson. He died Thurs., Sept. 7, 2000 in a Duluth hospital. He was 63.

Also in bereavement are Kenneth’s brother and sister, Leonard Robinson and Julie Envall, both of Proctor.

Born in Hinckley, he attended schools in various states growing up. He went to work on the railroad as a section hand at an early age. Then for 15 years he worked as a machinist in the Duluth area. He worked 25 years for Local 49 Operating Engineers as a heavy equipment operator. In 1954, he entered the Duluth Marine Corps Reserves 16th Special Infantry and served as a corporal.

He is also survived by his wife Arlene Robinson, four sons, two daughters, two other brothers, another sister, 17 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Delores Marian Fleischer
Former Proctorite Delores Marian Fleischer died Sat., Sept. 9, 2000 in her 88th Ave. W. home. She was 77.

She was born in St. Paul and was a 1941 graduate of Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson, Minn. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary and a member of MOCA.

She was preceded in death by her mother Juanita, her son Glenn and her husband Lester.

She is survived by two daughters Jacquelyn Mankowski of Cook and Gwendelyn Breemeersch of Proctor, two sons Keith (Cindy) of South Range and Neil (Judy) of Two Harbors, 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Inurnment was in Sunrise Memorial Park Mausoleum, Hermantown.

Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Evelyn Ann Priley
The Ikola family of Proctor is mourning the death of Evelyn Ann Priley of Cloquet. She died Thurs., Sept. 14, 2000 in Lake Haven Manor in Duluth.

She was born in Faribault, Minn.. She attended Stowe School in Gary-New Duluth.

She married Harvey Roy in 1937. He preceded her in death in 1964. She married Michael Priley in 1967 and he preceded her in death in 1990. Evelyn was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

She is survived by three daughters, a brother, a sister and sister-in-law, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Family inurnment was in Old Calvary Cemetery in Cloquet.

Kenneth N. Perkins
George Perkins of Saginaw is saddened by the death of his brother, Kenneth N. Perkins. He died Mon., Sept. 4, 2000 in Chris Jensen Nursing Home. He was 75.

He was born in Virginia and lived in Duluth most of his life.

He is also survived by a sister Gladys Riggles of Saratoga, Calif. and another brother Ronald Baumgartner of Siren, Wis.

Frank T. Valentine
Services were held last week for Frank T. Valentine. The Bayview resident died Mon., Sept. 18, 2000 in Nopeming Nursing Home’s Alzheimer’s unit. He was 86.

He was born in Duluth shortly after his family’s immigration to Duluth from Italy. Frank lived in Duluth his entire life and married Cecelia Campetti on Jan. 4, 1938. Frank, his wife and his family lived in the “Little Italy” area of Duluth’s 11th Avenue West until August 1957 when he and his wife purchased their home in Bayview Heights.

Frank was a welder/ steamfitter and had worked for many construction companies until his retirement in 1976. Frank was an active and proud member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 11, serving as its president and vice president from 1970 to 1980. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Italian American Club in Duluth.

Frank is survived by sons Joseph (Gayle), Frank (Nancy Johnston), Patrick (Mary) and James (Susan), all of Duluth, a sister Nellie Fawcett Maki (Roy) of Hibbing, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Joseph DeCaire
Delores LeVeille of Proctor is saddened by the loss of her brother, Joseph DeCaire. He died Mon., Sept. 18, 2000 in a Duluth Hospice Care Unit. He was 70.

He was born in Bay City, Mich. He worked many years for U.S. Steel, and he also owned and operated Charlie Brown’s Bar in Billings Park for ten years. He was a Navy veteran and a member of United Steelworkers Union.

He is also survived by his wife Marilyn, a son and a daughter.

Ernest A. “Shorty” Renaud
Lifelong Proctor resident Ernest A. “Shorty” Renaud succumbed to cancer Sat., Oct. 14, 2000 in a Robbinsdale, MN hospital. He was 81.

The former Bass Boulevard resident was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Duluth to Israel and Marguerite (Auger) Renaud. Shorty had been a supervisor and carman for Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway for many years until retirement. He was an Army veteran.

He married Muriel Denzler April 24, 1941, in St. Rose Catholic Church, Proctor. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and St. Rose Knights of Columbus. Shorty enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and being with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include a son Terry (Leona) Renaud of Winnipeg, Manitoba, daughters Claudia (Rod) Pylka and Michelle Renaud, both of Maple Grove, Minn., brothers Alphonse (Pina) of San Antonio, Texas, Joseph of Duluth and George (Iris) of Hermantown, sisters Lorraine Grave and Rose Marie Anderson, both of Proctor, grandchildren Iannique and Shawn Renaud, Cara (Allen) Debes, Kristin (Scott Antin) Peterson, Brita (Eric) Vetsch, Keely (Scott) Riley, Marie Josee Verreault and Tynan Semonick and great-grandchildren Jacob and Theodor Debes and Alexa Renaud. He has also left behind many special friends, especially Susan Wilke of Duluth and Therese Bessette of Cowansville, Quebec, Canada.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Duluth VFW Combined Honor Guard. If so desired, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Rose Catholic Church.

Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.

John Melvin Johnson
Gaylene Walsh of Twig is mourning the death of her father, John Melvin Johnson. He died Tues., Oct. 3, 2000 in his Floodwood home. He was 78.

He is also survived by his wife Shirley, a son, another daughter, three grandsons, a great-grandson, four sisters, a brother and 16 nieces and nephews.

Interment was in Hope Lutheran Cemetery.

Marjorie Ann Goodell
Marjorie Ann Goodell of Proctor died Sun., Oct. 15, 2000, in Duluth. She was 88.

Marjorie was a lifelong resident of Proctor. She and her husband Marvin J. owned and operated the former Goodell Electric of Proctor. Marvin died in 1985.

Surviving are two sons James A. (Darlene) of Proctor and George M. (Kathleen) of Brainerd, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A private family graveside service was held in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Irene L. Gielarowski
Irene L. Gielarowski, who along with her husband, were among the first to settle on Midway Road in Pike Lake, died Thurs., Oct. 5, 2000 in Duluth. She was 79.

She was born in Little Falls, Minn. She married Frank Gielarowski in 1942 in Duluth.

Irene is survived by her sons Butch (Barbara) Brisk of Pike Lake and Fred (Judy) Gielarowski of Littlefork, a daughter Jillanne Gielarowski of Pike Lake, grandchildren Brenda Aslyn, Brett Brisk, Cory Gielarowski and Lori Reierson, great-grandchildren Grant, Rachel, Taylor, Anissa, Alan and Freddie and sisters Frances Stegora of Brainerd and Betty (Mel) Johnson of Duluth.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Patrick Lloyd Murphy
Patrick Lloyd Murphy of Brooklyn Center died Thurs., Oct. 19, in Las Vegas, where he was visiting his daughter. He was 70.

Patrick was born in Duluth to Gertrude and James Lloyd Murphy on Nov. 17, 1929. They moved to Hermantown when the Jackson Project began in 1937. He graduated from Hermantown High School in 1947 and then went to St. John’s University. He was employed by Honeywell for 36 years. He enjoyed his family activities and watching or participating in sports. He was an avid walker and loved new adventures.

He was a regular participant, along with Mary Murphy and Rose Wedlund, in the annual Hoghead Festival.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Leo.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Marianne, five children, six grandchildren, his sister Mary Murphy, brothers Paul (Mitzi) of Hermantown and James (Eva) of New Carrollton, Md., many nieces, nephews, in-laws and other loved ones.

Memorial Mass Sat., Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 7025 Halifax Ave. N., Brooklyn Center. Private interment.

Betty Jayne (Hackensmith) Shipley
Jeff Line of Proctor is mourning the death of his mother, Betty Jayne (Hackensmith) Shipley. She died Wed., Oct. 18, 2000. She was 75.

Betty was born in Cromwell. She moved to the Duluth area and was a past owner of Lundahl’s Coffee Shop.

She is also survived by a brother, nine other children, 29 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
