Murl Remmele, 83, of Redwood Falls, formerly of Echo, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Redwood Area Hospital.
Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Echo with burial in the Echo Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo and continues Saturday one hour before services at the church. There will be a prayer service today at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife Eileen; children, Linda Schumacher and husband Christopher of Volga, S.D., Paul Remmele and wife Berdella of Morton, Ill., Gary Remmele and wife Rebecca of Dodge Center, Daniel Remmele and wife SueAnn of Echo, Steven Remmele and wife Bonita of Tomah, Wis; 12 grandchildren; brothers, Wilbert E. Remmele and wife Peg of Beloit, Wis., and Eugene Remmele of Echo. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Philip in 1954, an infant brother, Robert, an infant sister, Pearl, and a sister Gladys Johnson.
Murl Herman Albert Remmele was born Dec, 11, 1917, in Echo Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota to Robert and Anna (Vollmer) Remmele. He served in the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II. On April 20, 1947, he married Eileen Bauer in the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church. They farmed until moving into Redwood Falls in October 1993. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls and a former member of Peace Church. He served as president of the church, on the church council, on the church and parsonage building committees, and he sang in the church choir.

Linda Lemcke, 81, of Lamberton, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Valley View Manor, Lamberton.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lamberton, with burial in Vesta Lutheran Cemetery, Vesta.
Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by daughters, Lola Lemcke and Carol Lemcke, both of Mankato; brother, Herbert Feige of Henderson; sister-in-law, Margaret Feige of Winthrop; and aunt, Hilda Blank, of Sleepy Eye.
She was born April 5, 1919, in Lamberton Township, to William and Alma (Ott) Feige. She married Melvin Lemcke in Vesta. They farmed near Vesta until moving to Revere. She belonged to Revere Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Group.

Ruth J. Schultz, 72, of Mankato, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at her home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mankato, with burial in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery.
Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon L. Schultz; daughter, Lori Batt; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Jane, Larry and fiance, Pam Jorgenssen, and Donald and Sherry, all of Mankato; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters and brothers-in-law, Verna and Glenn Wood of Webster, Wisc., and Verona and Gerald Jessop of Spicer; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and two brothers, including a twin.
She was born Oct. 12, 1928, in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, to Robert and Anna (Fennern) Fenger. She married Gordon L. Schultz on Aug. 8, 1948, in Springfield. They lived in St. Paul, Sleepy Eye, Cosmos and New Ulm, before moving to Mankato in 1960. She did office work in St. Paul for two years, then worked for A.J. Pietrus Co. in Sleepy Eye for three years. The couple then operated a cafe in Cosmos for two years and in New Ulm for two years. She worked at Paper Box Company for four years and then was employed by School District 77 as a cook, first at Mankato West High School and later at Monroe School. She retired in 1993, after 23 years with the district. She did volunteer work with Hosanna Lutheran Church Day Care and at Immanuel Lutheran Church and School. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Ladies Auxiliary and the Women's Study Guild.

Anna Buntrock, 99, of Winthrop died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center, Winthrop.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Peace Lutheran Church, Winthrop. Burial will be in Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, siblings: Arthur Wick, Melvin Wick, Ida Rettmann, Lydia Just; a niece Bernett Rettmann.
Anna Marie (Wick) Buntrock was born Jan. 6, 1902, in Bismark Township, Sibley County, daughter of Fred and Emma (Pagel) Wick. She received her education in Bismark Township. In 1927, she married Emil Buntrock at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bismark Township. They farmed in Bismark Township and also had a milk route in Winthrop for many years. She also helped others with housekeeping duties. She later worked for the Winthrop newspaper as a press operator. She worked with Hands Inc. and retired at age 84 in 1986. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop and involved in its Ladies Aid. She sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school.

Rev. Frederick A. Werner, 85, of River Falls, Wis., died Thursday, February 1, 2001, at the Lutheran Home in River Falls, Wisconsin.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Ulm, with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, New Ulm, is handling arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Loraine Werner of River Falls, Wis.; son, Paul and wife, Barbara Werner of Belle Plaine; daughters, Dorothy and husband, Rev. Richard Schleicher of Flower Mound, Texas, Lillian and husband, Charles LaMaire of Apple Valley; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Hall of Bloomington, Ill., Dorothy and husband, Harlan Ball and Naomi and husband, Maurice Krebill, all of Donnellson, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Beulah Werner of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Gertrude Werner of Racine, Wis.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother; a son Erick; and brothers, Arthur and Paul Werner.
Pastor Frederick August Werner was born Aug. 20, 1915, in Pewaukee, Wis., son of Pastor Arthur and Helen (Krause) Werner. He grew up in Town Center, Wis., where he received his elementary education. He attended Northwestern Preparatory School in Watertown, Wis., graduating in 1933. He graduated from Northwestern College in 1937. He graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wis., in 1940. He taught school from 1940 -1941 at St. Paul's School in Town Forest, Mt. Calvary, Wis. On June 22, 1941, he was ordained and installed as pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church in Centuria, Wis., and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rock Creek, Wis. He married Loraine Ulrich on Nov. 17, 1946, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. He served as pastor from 1949-1951 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Woodville, Wisc., and First Lutheran Church in Hersey, Wis. Over the next 12 years, he served as pastor at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. He taught school there and received his bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Omaha. In 1963 he was installed as pastor of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Rochester. He also served as WELS Chaplain at the Rochester Hospitals. He was installed as pastor at St. John's Lutheran Church in Barre Mills, Wis., in 1967. He also taught religion classes at Luther High School in Onalaska and served on the Board of Control and as Chairman of the Board. He served as Chairman of the Councilmen's Conference and the Southwestern Pastoral Conference. From 1982 - 1985 he served the Christ the King Lutheran Church of Washington, Kan., as a semi-retired pastor. After retirement, he moved back to Wisconsin, where he helped many congregations as a supply pastor until 1995, when his health declined.

Helen Hansel, 84, of Glencoe and formerly of Willmar, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001.
Services were held Saturday at Church of St. Pius in Glencoe. Burial was in Glencoe Catholic Cemetery. Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel, Glencoe handled arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Louis of Glencoe; sons, Alan Hansel and wife, Joyce, of Claremont, Tom Hansel and wife, Sandy, of Moraga, Calif., Duane Hansel and wife, Karla, of New Ulm; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Shirley Hansel of Waseca; brother, Roger Schmitz and wife, Joanne, of Waconia; sisters, Lorraine Kelzer of Waconia, Sally Mieseler of Carver, Ruth Louis and husband, Jack, of Waconia, Marilyn Borka and husband, Richie, of Waconia, Jeanette Patrick and husband, Terry, of Waconia; sisters-in-law, Elaine Schmitz of Waconia, Bonnie Phillips of Oakdale; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant granddaughter, brothers Wilfred and Gene Schmitz, sisters Florence Schmitz and Ethel Hartmann.
Helen Catherine Hansel was born Feb. 23, 1916, in rural Cologne, daughter of Martin and Eleanor (Wickenhauser) Schmitz. She attended St. Bernard's Catholic School. On July 12, 1938, she married Louis Hansel at the Church of St. Bernard. They lived in Willmar from 1941-1993, then moved to Glencoe. She was a member of St. Francis Mission Circle and the Catholic Aid Society.

Elsa 'Lisa' Lim King, 38, of Sleepy Eye died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, from injuries sustained in a car accident near Morgan.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Divine Providence Community Home Chapel, Sleepy Eye. Burial will be in Ozamiz City, Philippines.
Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at Divine Providence Community Home Chapel, Sleepy Eye. Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, is handling arrangements.
She is survived by her father, Kiang Lian Kee of Ozamiz City, Philippines; brothers and sisters, Susan and husband, Leon Treml of rural Springfield, Marilyn and husband, Manuelito Vasquez, Angelito and wife, Joan Kiang, Helen Lim, Edgar Kiang and Jane Lim, all of Ozamiz City; half-brother, Abe Kiang and step-mother, Elvie Gonzales Kiang of Ozamiz City; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her mother; maternal grandmother, Cornelia Betinol Lim; and paternal grandparents, Kiang Sip Sr. and Lo Siok Eng.
She was born Dec. 30, 1962, in Ozamiz City, Philippines, to Kiang Lian Kee and Germana Lim Kiang. She grew up in Ozamiz City, where she graduated from high school. She attended the University of San Carlos in Cebu City, where she graduated in 1983 with a bachelor of science in commerce, majoring in accounting. She later attended Misamis University in Ozamiz City, where she graduated in 1991 with a bachelor of science in nursing. She worked as a clinical instructor at Misamis University for several years until moving to Sleepy Eye in July of 1995. She worked as a registered nurse at Divine Providence Community Home until her death.

Mildred Christopherson, 84, of Redwood Falls, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center, Redwood Falls.
Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Redwood Valley Funeral Home, Redwood Falls. Burial will be in Echo Cemetery.
Visitation will be noon until the time of services at the funeral home.
She is survived by her sister, Josie Hemmingson of Granite Falls; brother Joseph Christopherson and wife Alice of Sisseton, S.D.; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Clara Hemmingson Bezenek, Emma Elstad, Minnie Lavin and Alma Heen; brothers, Helmer and Harold Christopherson.
She was born July 26, 1916, in Sioux Agency Township, Yellow Medicine County, to Hans and Martha (Arnestad) Christopherson. She attended Sunny Side Country School through seventh grade, and graduated from Granite Falls High School. She later graduated from the Vocational School of Practical Nursing for disabled persons and worked at Fairview Hospital. She also was a charge nurse at several nursing homes in the Minneapolis area. After retiring, she moved to Belview, Lakeside Manor in Redwood Falls, then to Sunwood Good Samaritan Center, Redwood Falls. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Carol Jean Massey, 59, of 1110 N. Jefferson St., in New Ulm died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at her home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the home of her daughter, Debra Hill in Chino Hills, Calif.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Hill of Chino Hills, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Serena Mize of Las Vegas; three grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Donna and Phil O'Hare of Midland, Mich., and Genetta Cheatahm of San Bernardino, Calif.; a brother, Jim Reed of Harrison, Mich.; and special friend, Fred McGinnis of New Ulm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Roberta O'Hare; and brother, Richard Reed.
She was born Feb. 3, 1942, in Los Angeles County, California, to Carl and Roena (Murren) Reed. She lived in Iowa, Nebraska and then moving to the San Bernardino, Calif., area. She later moved to Fullerton, Calif. She moved to New Ulm in 1995 where she was a bartender at the Kaiserhoff Restaurant.

Donald Herd, 69, of Green Isle, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001 at Waconia Ridgeview Medical Center
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Brendan Catholic Church, Green Isle, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Fenske Funeral Home, Arlington and at the church Wednesday one hour before the service. Parish prayers are 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen Herd of Green Isle; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Marneé of Alexandria, Mike and Kris of Gaylord, James and Lisa of Chaska; brother and sister-in-law: Allan and Marge of Green Isle; sister and brother-in-law, Merv Ann and Robert Dressen of Fort Dodge, Iowa; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Patrick and Konnie O'Neil of Cambridge; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence Jr. and Karen Herd.
He was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Washington Lake Township, Sibley County, to Clarence G. and Ann M. (Sickle) Herd. He graduated from Glencoe High School and attended Mankato State University for two years. He entered the U.S. Army on July 9, 1952. He was stationed in Japan. He was discharged with the rank of sergeant on June 9, 1954. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He married Mary Eileen O'Neil on Sept. 7, 1957, in Green Isle. He was president at Citizens State Bank in Green Isle for 32 years. He also worked as a self-employed painter until retirement. He was a retired member of the Green Isle Fire Department and a member of the American Legion. He served on the Green Isle Baseball Board and was treasurer of Crow River Valley Baseball for 33 Years. He was a member of the Minnesota Baseball Hall of Fame.

Violet B. Anderson, 93, formerly of Comfrey, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Sogge Good Samaritan Home, Windom.
Services are 1 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church, Windom, with burial at Lakeview Cemetery, Windom.
Visitation is one hour before services today at the church.
Anderson Schmidt Funeral Home handled arrangements.
She is survived by children and their spouses, Alvin and Sandra of Alexandria, Michael and Barbara, of North Mankato, Janet of Waseca; and Julane Sater of Brewster; brother, Glenville "Bust" and Verna Rutherford of Portland, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert; brothers: William D., Ronald and Kenneth Rutherford; sisters: Frances L. Kropf, Velma Doran, Doris E. Baker; and grandson Todd Anderson.
She was born Sept. 25, 1917, to William F. and Maude (Rutherford) Rutherford in Ellsbury Township, near Pillsbury, N.D. She graduated from high school in Hope, N.D., in 1935. She attended Valley City State Teacher College at Valley City, N.D. On Feb. 21, 1939, she married Herbert Anderson in Moorhead. They farmed in North Dakota until April 1939 and then moved to a farm south of Comfrey, where they lived and farmed until November of 1982. She worked as a news reporter for the Comfrey Times newspaper for approximately ten years, retiring in 1969. She was also an Avon representative until 1975. In 1982, they moved to Windom. She entered the Sogge Good Samaritan Home in Windom on Feb. 24, 1999. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Windom. She was a former member of the United Church of Christ in Comfrey, where she taught Sunday school. She was a former president and publicity chairman for 4th District Parent Teacher Association and the former secretary/treasurer for the 4th District Horticultural Society.

Dorothy Yonkovich, 87 of Lafayette, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at New Ulm Medical Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Friday at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour before services Friday at the church. A CCW rosary will be held at 7 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Ordell of Brookings, S.D., Gene and Janice of Phoenix, Ariz., Josef and Susan of Princeton; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ethel and her husband, Del Frappia of Omaha, Neb., Isabelle and her husband Dave Long of Ft. Meyers, Fla.; Evelyn Hardy of Apple Valley, Clarice Larson of Amboy; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John in April, 1993; brothers, Elmer, Arnold, Harold, and Carl in infancy; and sisters, Elsie and Margaret.
She was born to Andrew and Alma (Ericsson) Larson on May 24, 1913, in Amboy. She attended country school and graduated from Amboy High School and business school in Minneapolis. She married John Yonkovich on Dec. 29, 1936, in Mankato.They farmed near Amboy. In 1951, the family moved to Cornish Township in Sibley County where they farmed until retiring in 1986. She worked as a food supervisor at the Good Samaritan Center in Lafayette. She moved to Lafayette in July of 1997. She was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Lafayette and CCW.
Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
