Alfred Macheledt, 88, of Rush City, formerly of Fairfax, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park.
Services were held Saturday, March 10, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rush City. Burial was in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine; daughters, Pamela and husband, Michael Mitchell of Hopkins; Colleen and husband, John Remer of Minnetonka; Maureen and husband, Tim Sheridan of Eagan; five grandchildren; brother, George Macheledt of Redwood Falls; sister, Agnes and husband Leonard Dietz of Sleepy Eye; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna Macheledt; sister, Marie and husband, Herman Rothenbacher; and sister-in-law, Mary Macheledt.
He was born Aug. 23, 1912, in Fairfax. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school and St. Andrew's Catholic School. He married Catherine Heinz on Nov. 10, 1952. They farmed near Rush City and continued to live on the farm after retirement.

Violet Zucco, 91, of Redwood Falls, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at the Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls with burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour before the service at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, Francis of Sun City West, Ariz; brothers; John Griffin of Tustin, Calif., and Curtis Griffin and wife Emily, of South Milwaukee, Wis., and three nieces.
She was born on March 5, 1910, in Redwood County, Minnesota, to Harry and Edith (Heimer) Griffin. She attended Redwood Falls schools graduating in 1927. She received a Registered Nurse degree from Anchor Hospital in St. Paul. She worked at University California Berkley as a head registered nurse retiring in the early 1960s. She and her husband returned to Redwood Falls for the summers and wintered in Sun City West, Ariz. She became a resident of Wood Dale Nursing Home in 1996.

Herbert H. Drews, 96, of 785 Birch Ave. in Gibbon died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Gaylord Lakeview Nursing Home.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in -law, Donna and Kenneth Raitz of Commerce City, Colo., Delores and Edgar Schuft of Arlington, and Noreen and Norbert Schwecke of Norco, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Amelia Rieger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mabel Drews, on Dec. 29, 1988; ten sisters; and granddaughter, Lisa Schuft in June 1980.
He was born Jan. 8, 1905, in Moltke Township, Sibley County, to Adolph and Emma (Berger) Drews. He attended country school. On June 3, 1928, he married Mabel Buerkle at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moltke Township. They farmed in Moltke Township until retiring in 1984 and then moved into Gibbon. He was a lifetime member of St. Peter;s Lutheran Church.

Mary Louise Dahl, 71, of Glenwood and formerly of New Ulm, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Lakeview Good Samaritan Center, Glenwood.
Services were held March 10 in Glenwood. Hoplin Funeral Home, Glenwood, handled arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Eldon "Swede" Dahl of Glenwood; son, Bryon and wife, Wendy, of Robbinsdale; daughter, Amy Dahl of Chicago; two grandchildren; brother, Robert and wife, Marlene Fasick of Mount Prospect, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ruth.
She was born June 30, 1929, in Chicago, to Augustas and Gladys (Inman) Fasick. Her family lived in Mount Prospect, Ill. She later attended Arlington Heights High School, graduating in 1947. On Oct. 28, 1949, she married Eldon Dahl in Mount Prospect, Ill. They lived in Arlington Heights and in the Mount Prospect area for 18 years. In 1967, they moved to New Ulm. In 1990, they moved to Glenwood.

Ernest Brueshoff, 72, of Green Isle, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Arlington Good Samaritan Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Evangelical Church, Green Isle, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at Fenske Funeral Home, Arlington and at the church Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Orville Busse of Arlington, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born June 3, 1928 in Benton Township, Cologne, Carver County, to Alvina Gruenhagen and Alfred Brueshoff. He attended rural school and farmed with his parents. He farmed in the Green Isle area until the mid 1980s when he helped his sister and brother-in-law farm near Arlington. He had been a resident at the Green Isle Boarding Home.

Elmer Becker, 90, of Butterfield, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at his home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at Salem Lutheran Church, Madelia, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Madelia.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pilgrim Funeral Home of Madelia is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by sisters, LaVera Lindstrom of Madelia and Rarmona and her husband Robert Bult of Tempe, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; daughter Roschelle A. Knudson; sister, Lucille Standish, and brother, Clarence.
He was born Sept. 7, 1910, in Antrim Township, rural Lewisville. He grew up in rural Lewisville and attended District 425 School. He worked on the home farm for a time. He married Rosalia Reese on Sept. 7, 1943 in Mankato. They moved to Madelia in 1944 where he did carpenter work and later worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 18 years. He retired in 1970. They moved to Butterfield in 1980. He was a member of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Butterfield and a former member of Salem Lutheran Chruch in Madelia where he served as Elder.

Alice Novotny, 93, of Hector, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at the Renville County Hospital, Olivia.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church, Hector, with burial in Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Dave Hirscher of Los Angeles, Calif., sons and daughters-in-law, Lucille and Vince Lorson of Sterling, Ill.; son, Tom, of Hector; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and many nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harry; sons, John and Frederick; and brothers and sisters, Joseph, Frances, Mary, Anna, Nettie, Frank, and John.
She was born Nov. 11, 1907, in Biscay, to Frank and Louise (Vacek) Boushka. She attended grade school in Biscay and graduated from Hutchinson High School. She had one year of Normal Training in Hutchinson and a year of college in St. Cloud. She taught school in Biscay, Cedar Mills, and Osceola Township. She married Harry Novotny on Nov. 11, 1930, in Stewart. They lived and farmed in Osceola Township until moving to Hector Township. She belonged to St. John's Catholic Church in Hector and was active in the Alter Society.

Viola Johnson, 85, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Hutchinson Area Health Care.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Swedlanda Lutheran Church, Palmyra Township, rural Hector, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, 5-7:30 p.m. at the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
She is survived by her husband Winston Johnson of Hector; children Stanley Johnson of Nampa, Idaho, Judy and Goran Granstrom of Scottsdale, Ariz, Ginny and Howard Swenson of Hector and Bob and Peggy Johnson of Eugene, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four brothers; and a sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers.
She was born Oct. 9, 1915, in Hector, to Robert and Clara (Anderson) Johnson. She moved with her family from Hector when she was three, but she returned in 1936.
She married Winston S. Johnson on Jan. 23, 1942, at the Swedlanda Lutheran Church in Palmyra Township.
She was an active member of the Swedlanda Lutheran Church. For 14 years, she and Winston were the youth directors at the church. She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

Michael Eigen, 54, of Mankato, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at his home.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Mankato Mortuary Chapel, with private burial at a later date.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Mankato Mortuary, with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, and one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to donor's choice.
He is survived by his wife, Cherryl Eigen of Mankato; sister, Jeanine Wolford and her husband Norman of Morris; and brother, Jim Eigen and his wife Rita of Edina.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born May 20, 1946, in Comfrey, to Martin and Ann Fromm Eigen. He graduated from Comfrey High School and received his bachelor's degree from Mankato State University. He served in the Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He married Cherryl Diane Englof on Dec. 18, 1971, in Mankato.
He was employed with Impact Services prior to working at Fireside Corner.

Gloria Hanson,79, of Lake Crystal, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Lake Crystal Health Care Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Butternut, with burial in the Butternut Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2 - 5 p.m. Sunday at the Lake Crystal Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be given to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or to the choice of the donor.
She is survived by sons and their wives, Bill and Norma Hanson of rural Lake Crystal, Dennis "Swede" and Anna Hanson of New Iberia, La., Russell "Joe" and Debbie Hanson of Lake Crystal; daughter, Beth Amlie and her husband Jim of Lake Washington; three grandchildren; sister, Norma Jean Mowatt and her husband Maurice "Buck" of California; and special friend Stan Hudson of Lake Crystal.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, three sisters, and two brothers.
She was born Aug. 18, 1921, in Tracy, to Albert and Bertha (Smith) Starr. She graduated from Tracy High School. She married Arden Hanson on March 8, 1941, in Estherville, Iowa. He died on Sept. 5, 1965. She was a homemaker and worked for the Lake Crystal Tribune. Gloria was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she had taught Bible School and belonged to ELCW.

Clarence E. Groehler, 90, formerly of the Sunset Apartments in New Ulm, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at church on Monday.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Paul Kotten and Janice and Bill Schreiner, all of New Ulm; grandchildren, Dan and Shari Kotten and Tim and Mary Schreiner, all of New Ulm, and Amy and Brent Boraas of Glenwood; great grandchildren, Zachary Schreiner, Mya and Dylan Kotten, all of New Ulm, and Noah Boraas of Glenwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy Groehler on April 27, 1993; grandson, Paul D. Kotten Jr. on May 23, 1995; sisters, Sophie, Alma, Clara and Lillian; brothers, Herman, Raymond, John, Otto, George, Edwin and Harold.
Clarence was born May 21, 1910 in Transit Township, Sibley County, to Otto and Hulda (Bullert) Groehler. He married Dorothy Friederichs on July 28, 1936 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. After marriage they farmed in Transit Township, Sibley County for 2 years. They then farmed in Alfsborg Township, Sibley County until 1961 when they moved to New Ulm where he worked for New Ulm Monument until his retirement. In 1990 his wife became a resident of the Winthrop Care Center and Clarence also moved to Winthrop. He became a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care Center in November 1998. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Linnea Carlson, 83, of Hector, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in Cambridge.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Palmyra Covenant Church, rural Hector.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Charles 'Chuck' Pizel, 62, of Vadnais Heights, formerly of Hanska, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services will be 11 am. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska, with burial in the Lake Hanska Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Firle Funeral Home in Hanska, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by daughter, Tanya Sabby and her husband Douglas of Vadnais Heights; son, Charles Pizel, Jr. and his wife Mary of Bloomington; a grandson, Jarrid Pizel; former wife Lydia Parker of Birchwood; parents, Donald and Stella Pizel of Hanska; sisters, Annette Larson and her husband L. Wallace of Hanska, Carolyn "Tootie" Lastine and her husband Thomas of Hanska; brothers, Ronald Pizel and his wife Sharon of New Ulm, Warren Pizel and his wife Deanne of Hanska, and Kenneth Pizel and his wife Darlene of Owatonna; former wife Lisa Ebel of Oakdale; special friend, Carol Douglas of Mankato and her family; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son Vincent Mark Pizel in 1989; brother Douglas Sherwood Pizel, infant brother John, and infant sister Mary.
Charles Arthur Pizel was born Sept. 23, 1938, in Linden Township, Brown County, to Donald and Stella (Joramo) Pizel. He attended Hanska Public School, graduating in 1956. He entered the Air Force in 1956. He married Lydia Parker on Sept. 6, 1959, in DesArc, Ark. Following his honorable discharge in 1965, they moved to Hanska. He was the manager of the former Montgomery Ward store in New Ulm and served as Hanska. police chief for several years. In 1977, he moved to St. Paul where he worked for 3M. He married Lisa Ebel on Feb. 27, 1984, in South Dakota. Following his retirement, he continued to live in the Twin Cities, and recently moved to Mankato. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska and the American Legion.

Clara M. Wallert, 81, of Arlington, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at Sibley Medical Center, Arlington.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Arlington, with burial in Arlington Public Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Fenske Funeral Home, Arlington, is handling arrangements.
She is survived by her son, Dennis Wallert of Park Rapids; daughter, Marilyn and husband, Edward Bright, of Minnetonka; sister, Dorothy Weihe of Dunedin, Fla.; sister-in-law, Olga Wallert of Canby; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Darwin; and sister, Ruth Weihe.
She was born on Sept. 5, 1919, in Delano, to Louis and Emma (Greenhagen) Weihe. At age 4, she moved to Arlington, where she graduated from Arlington High School in 1936. She attended Mankato State University for two years. She married Darwin Wallert on June 15, 1941, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Arlington. They lived on a farm west of town. She was a member of the church's Ladies Aid. She was a retired teacher.
