Norma Remmert, 88, of Springfield, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Springfield, with burial in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Springfield.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services at the church.
Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Lois of Miami, Fla.; William and Patty Remmert of New Ulm; four grandchildren; sisters, Delores (Dottie) Niemann of Springfield, and Trudy Driscoll of Redwood Falls; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Luveme Meyer of Arlington, Texas; and a long-time family friend, Fidelis Steinke of Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arnold in 1966; sisters Orpha Steinberg and Ruth Weber; brother, Alfred, and a brother in infancy.
She was born Oct. 27, 1912, Burnstown Township, Brown County, to William & Ida (Wendt) Meyer. She attended country school in District 21 and graduated from Springfield High School in 1930. She worked for various businesses in Springfield. She married Arnold F. Remmert on Sept. 7, 1940 in Yellow Medicine County. They lived in Springfield, where Norma worked with her husband in the Star and Tribune office. They bought the Springfield Hotel in 1951, operating it until an explosion in downtown Springfield destroyed the facility. She worked at Adolphson Clothing and Bockman's Jewelry. They took over the management of the Springfield Gun Club in 1957. They were involved in the building of the Springfield Golf Course, where they worked until 1959. Arnold became manager of the New Ulm Country Club. They operated the Elks Club in Brookings, S.D. in the off-season. She joined the staff at the Von Fischer Rexall Drug Store, later Dan's Rexall Drug and the City Clerk's Office in Springfield.
She was a Iifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield, the Ladies Group of the church, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Michael Grausam, 85, of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at his home in Sleepy Eye.
A private family service will be Monday, Mach 19, 2001, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sleepy Eye, at a later date.
He is survived by his wife Agnes of Sleepy Eye; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Paulette of Sleepy Eye; daughters and sons-in-law, Joan Grausam of Leavenworth, Rosie and Bernie Kuehn of Milroy, and Julie and Wayne Huiras of Sleepy Eye; three grandchildren; a brother, Edward of Sleepy Eye; mother-in-law, Anna Hengel of Sleepy Eye; brothers-in-law, Christy Hengel of New Ulm, Ray Hengel of Sleepy Eye, and Sylvester Kotten of Sleepy Eye; and sisters-in-law, Isabel Hoffmann of Cypress, Calif., Simone Hengel of Sleepy Eye, and Mary Ann Kotten of Sleepy Eye.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law George Hengel; and brother-in-law Jerome Hengel.
He was born April 22, 1915, in Sleepy Eye, to Florian and Rose (Deutsch) Grausam. He worked on the family dairy farm and attended Sleepy Eye Public School. He entered the Army and served in WW II. After being honorably discharged, he returned to the family farm. He married Agnes Hengel on May 20, 1945. They farmed and raised four children. He retired in 1980 and moved to Sleepy Eye. He made Hengel Concertina parts for many years. He was on the Board of Directors at St. Mary's Credit Union for 27 years, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Brown County Holstein Association, served on the District 202 School Board in Prairieville Township, and Prairieland Flywheelers Two Cycle Club.

Merle Langholz, 69, 75 Roslyn Road, New Ulm, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at his home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, New Ulm, with burial with full military honors by New Ulm veterans' organizations at the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Monday at the Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church Monday.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Deborah of New Ulm, James and Tammy of Lenexa, Kan., and J. Scott Gamber of Oxnard, Calif.; daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine of Maple Grove, M. Joy Wieland and her companion Kevin Bassett of New Ulm, and Carrie and Derek Fischer of Rogers; nine grandchildren, one great granddaughter; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lou Boller of Rochester, and Doris and Darrel Ruesink of Red Wing; brother and sister-in-law, Harlan and Marie of Hutchinson; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Jeanne; sister Ilene Stoohs; her husband Wilbur; and brother-in-law Harry Boller.
He was born Oct. 12, 1931, in Kanaranzi, to Carl J. and Emma (Schadwinkel) Langho1z. He grew up in Hutchinson and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1950. He married Jeanne Clasen in December 1952 at the Peace Lutheran Church, Hutchinson. He entered the Army in 1953. Following his honorable discharge in 1955, they moved to New Ulm, where he began work with the newly-opened Kraft Foods plant. His wife died in 1972. He married Margaret (Young) Gamber on July 20, 1974, in New Ulm. Following his retirement from Kraft, he continued to live in New Ulm. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, New Ulm, and the American Legion.
Memorials are preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Richard W. 'Rich' Olson, 70, of Lamberton, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in Lamberton.
Services is 10:30 a.m. today at United Methodist Church, Lamberton, with burial in the Lamberton cemetery.
Visitation is 7:30- 8:30 a.m. at Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton and 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Oneeta Olson of Lamberton; son, Randy and wife Kendra Olson of Chaska; daughters, Linda and husband Mark Anderson of Oshkosh, Wis., Janine and Jerry Aaland of Jasper, and Denise and husband Jim Connor of Madison; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Harold and wife Lorraine Olson of New Ulm, and Arden and wife Mary Olson of St. Peter; and a sister-in-law, Carol Olson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Maynard Olson; and his aunt and uncle, Alyce and Clarence Griese.
He was born July 30, 1930, in New Ulm to Arthur and Hady (Griese) Olson. He attended country school near New Ulm before moving to live with his aunt and uncle Alyce and Clarence Griese in Lamberton. He graduated from Lamberton Public School. He married Oneeta Irvin on Aug. 25, 1952, in Joplin, Mo. He entered the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1955. Richard and Oneeta returned to Lamberton to farm until 1964. He worked as a milkman for Marigold Dairy, at the elevator, was a parts manager and helped Rodney Nackerud on the farm. He retired in 1992 and was the care taker and cemetery sexton at the Lamberton City Cemetery. Richard was a member of the Community Choir, Windom Chord Hustlers, United Methodist Church Choir, the Andrew Peterson American Legion Post 41, the Lamberton Lions Club and a board member of Valley View Manor Apartments.

Robert J. Berens died in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on March 16, 2001, after a heroic battle with coronary artery disease. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lorraine M. (O'Brien) Berens, by his parents, Joseph and Maude (Sullivan) Berens, and by his sister, Margery Berens Rogge.
He is survived by his three children and their spouses, James & Lois Berens of Des Moines, Iowa, Mary & William Rogers of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and William & Jan Berens of St. Paul, Minnesota. He is survived by six grandchildren, Rob, Amy & Molly Rogers, and Maggie, Betsy & Katie Berens.
Bob Berens was born in Shakopee, Minnesota on November 4, 1912. He was educated through high school in the Shakopee public school system. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and received his law degree from George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. After law school, he was a special agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1941 to 1945, serving in Washington, D.C., Miami and Chicago. He married Lorraine on May 23, 1942. They were married for 56 years.
In November of 1945, Bob and Lorraine moved to New Ulm, Minnesota. He entered into the private practice of law with the law firm now known as Berens, Rodenberg & O'Connor. He was City Attorney for New Ulm in 1949 and 1950 and County Attorney for Brown County from 1951 to 1975. He was President of the Ninth District Bar Association and President of the Minnesota County Attorneys Association. He was the first lay president of Loretto Hospital in New Ulm. He was Chairman of the Board and a Director of Citizens State Bank in New Ulm for 28 years. He was also a Director of the State Bank of Hanska. He represented the New Ulm Telephone Company and Rural Electrification Association in Sleepy Eye for many years.
He was well known for his charitable and community work. He was an officer and director of New Ulm Industries and the New Ulm Industries Foundation for many years. He chaired the Building Committee that constructed St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Throughout his legal career, he provided legal services to churches and clergy without charge. He did the same for the Highland Manor when it was established. He was a member of the New Ulm Country Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the Lion's Club, the Knights of Columbus and other civic and social organizations.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11 a.m. at the church. Arrangements were handled by the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The family prefers memorials to the New Ulm Area Catholic Schools (NUACS).

Willard Christensen, 82, of Glencoe died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Services were held Saturday, at Church of St. Pius X, Glencoe. Burial was in Glencoe Catholic Cemetery. Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel, Glencoe, handled arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Christensen of Glencoe; children, Joyce Beneke and husband, Jerome, of Glencoe, Dennis Christensen and wife, Sharon, of Glencoe, Mark Christensen and wife, Janey, of Biscay, Louis Christensen of Lakeville, Paul Christensen and wife, MaryAnn of Glencoe, Timothy Christensen and wife, Debra, of Glencoe, Victoria Christensen of North Mankato, Beth Winter and husband, John, of Glencoe, Mary Bielke and husband, Derald, of Biscay; 29 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Delmer Christensen and wife, Marjorie, of Princeton; brothers-in-law, Warren Meyer and wife, Vonnie, Bill Meyer, Herm Meyer and wife, MaryLou; sisters-in-law, Georgine Portner, Margaret Lang and husband, Leo, Lorraine Meyer; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harold and Leonard; sister, Deloris Wall; grand son-in-law, Robert Fuglsang.
He was born on March 16, 1918, in Prairie Township, Brown County, son of Helgar and Wilhelmina (Guth) Christensen. He attended rural Sleepy Eye Public schools for several years. On Oct. 11, 1941, he married Lucille Meyer at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. They lived in Sleepy Eye until 1957, when they moved to their current farm in Glencoe. He was a member of St. Peter & Paul and St. Piux X Catholic church. He was an usher and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Alice Osberg, 93, of rural New Ulm died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Winthrop Care Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, New Ulm.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Monday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and continues one hour before services Tuesday at the church.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and James Steffl of Morristown, Carol Kramer of Park Rapids, Suzanne Anderson of Roseau, and Dorothy and Averill "Brooks" Clark of Wayzata; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward Jr. and Bernell Osberg of Courtland, and Allen and Renee Osberg of rural New Ulm; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and sister, Esther Harmening of Lakefield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Osberg Sr. on Jan. 19, 2000; brothers, Hugo, Raymond, and Victor Wellner; sister, Hilda Kiecker; and a son-in-law, Bernie Anderson.
She was born Aug. 12, 1907, in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County, to Frank and Emma (Becker) Wellner. She attended country school in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County. On April 15, 1934, she married Edward Osberg Sr. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Parsonage. They farmed in Brighton Township, Nicollet County, until retiring in 1977, but they continued to live on the farm. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Young at Heart Group, and the Almighty King Circle at the church.

Erwin A. Volk, 90, Rt. 1, St. Peter, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Springdale West Nursing Home in Mesa, Ariz.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet. and one hour before the service at church on Wednesday.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Orren and Sharon Volk of Mesa, Ariz., Larry and Pam Volk of Bloomington; daughter-in-law, Karen Volk of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Eunice Volk of Nicollet.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred in 1992; son, Emery Volk on Sept. 28, 2000; two sisters; and three brothers.
He was born Oct. 8, 1910, in Nicollet to Fred and Elise (Kastens) Volk. After completing his eighth-grade education, he worked for his father's construction company. He married Mildred Kawell on Sept. 2, 1935, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. He became a master electrician and worked for Ritz's Electric until 1947, and then he moved to Madison and opened an electrical appliance store (Volk's Electric) in partnership with his brother Clarence. In 1955 he moved to Minneapolis where he worked for the Donaldson Corp. as a plant electrician until his retirement in 1974 when they moved to rural St. Peter. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet. He served in the Minnesota National Guard.

Alice Prax, 88, of 500 N. State St., New Ulm, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Divine Providence Chapel in Sleepy Eye, with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the time of the service at the Divine Providence Chapel. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. today at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. A combined rosary will be prayed by the St. Ann's Court Catholic Order of Foresters and St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Society at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m., today at the funeral home.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Richard Lemke of Eagan; son and daughter-in-law, John "Skip" and Jeanette Prax of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Ida Schumacher, Gen Schueller, and Dorothy Sufka all of Sauk Rapids; brothers and sister-in-law, Len and Marie Braun of Little Falls, and Donald Braun of Indianapolis, Ind.; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward Prax on Jan. 2, 1972; sisters, Sister Nathaniel Braun, Adeline Braun, Lucille Druary, Ann Garberg, Margaret Kosak; brothers, Walter Braun, John Zehren; and by stepmother, Appolonia (Zerhern) Braun.
She was born June 22, 1912, in Argyle to John and Elizabeth (Denzen) Braun. She attended country school near Argyle. On May 1, 1934, she married Edward Prax at the St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. They lived in rural Franklin. They moved to New Ulm in 1944 where she was a homemaker and worked for the St. Mary's lunch program and was a volunteer driver for Brown County Family Services for 13 1/2 years. In 1985 she received the Bishop's Medal of Service for her outstanding work in the parish. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Christian Mothers Society, St. Ann's Court, National Catholic Society of Foresters, St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Society, St. Monica's Society, St. Monica's Guild, Ministry of Praise, Senior Citizens, and the Turner Ladies Society. She became a resident of the Divine Providence Community Home in December 1999.

Raymond Walter, 79, of Springfield, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Springfield, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. A men's rosary is 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Wendt of Springfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Judy of Richfield, and Raymond Jr. and Marlene of Sleepy Eye; son-in-law, James and his wife Cheryl Fischer of New Hope; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine and Clarence Pankratz of Anoka and Betty and Frank Liebl of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Adeline; daughter, Donna Fischer; and brothers, William and Robert.
He was born Sept. 12, 1921, in Leavenworth Township, Brown County, to Arnold and Minnie (Fromm) Walter. He attended country school and began farming. He married Adeline Eckstein on Oct. 14, 1943, in Sleepy Eye. They moved to a farm near Cobden and later farmed in Burnstown Township. He also worked at Del Monte Corp. in Sleepy Eye. He belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye and St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield.

Harold J. Kaping, 80, of 4330 Evergreen Dr., St. Paul, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at the Veterans Hospital.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's of the Lakes Church in White Bear Lake.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Mueller-Lake Mortuary, 4738 Bald Eagle Ave., White Bear Lake and one hour before services.
He is survived by his wife, Delores; sons and daughter-in-laws, Dennis and Barbara, Allan and Delores, Randy and Nancy; four grandchildren; sisters, Leona and her husband Richard G. Hesse, Esther (Mrs. Armin) Radke of New Ulm; brothers, Elmer and wife Marie of Hutchinson, Henry J. and wife Marilyn of Nevis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry A. and Mary Kaping; sisters, Lorraine Forst Vorlicky, Elvira Schnurrer Clark and Verona Hesse.
He was born in New Ulm, May 4, 1920, to Henry A. and Mary (Rubey) Kaping. He attended Holy Trinity School. He served in the infantry during World War 11 and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He married Delores Peterson in St. Paul May 4, 1948. He belonged to the St. Joseph Catholic Aid Council.

Viola Rubitschung, 99, of Springfield, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Home Chapel, Springfield, with burial in Springfield City Cemetery.
Visitation is 9-10 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Home Chapel.
Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, is handling arrangements.
She is survived by sisters, Leila Kurtz of Redwood Falls and Blanche Schultz of McAllen, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willmar; and sisters, Leora Schultz and Deloris Schultz.
She was born June 10, 1901, in Sundown Township, Redwood Falls, to Peter and Helga Camilla (Madsen) Frederickson. She attended rural schools, Morgan High School and Lamberton Teachers Training. She graduated from Mankato State Teachers College, where she belonged to the Alumni Association. She taught school for 26 1/2 years in the Redwood Falls, Morgan and Springfield areas. She married Willmar "Bill" Rubitschung on Dec. 29, 1940, in Sleepy Eye. They lived in Springfield. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid, the Twentieth Century Study Club, the Prairieland Genealogical Society, the John Birch Society, the League of Women Voters, the Springfield Hospital Auxiliary, and St. John Lutheran Home Auxiliary.

Christine M. Soupir, 83, of Milroy, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at the Wabasso Health Care Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the church in Lucan. Sunset Funeral Home of Wabasso is handling arrangements.
She is survived by children, Donald A. Soupir and his wife Janet of Montrose, Kathleen A. Soupir of Richfield; brother, Ed Frank and his wife Alice of Olivia; and sisters, Beatrice Goblirsch of Brookings,Ore., Catherine Duscher and her husband Bill of Lucan, Barbara Halvorson and her husband Ervin of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Emily Roberts and her husband Fred of West Jordan, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Anton on Jan. 13, 2001, and brother Stanley Frank in November 2000.
She was born July 8, 1917, in Henryville Township, Renville County, to Jacob and Mary (Budik) Frank. She attended country school near Olivia. She married Anton J. Soupir on Oct. 2, 1945, in Bechyn. They farmed near Milroy until retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan and C.C.W.

Willard 'Jim' Robinson, 54, of Redwood Falls died Sunday, March 19, 2001 at the Redwood Area Hospital.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cornerstone Christian Church in Redwood Falls with burial in St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery in Redwood Falls.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. until noon Wednesday at Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church.
He is survived by a son, Jeremy James Robinson of Redwood Falls; sisters; Treonne Panitzke and husband Gilbert, of Redwood Falls; Elaine Holscher and husband Tom, of Long Prairie; two brothers, Ronnie Robinson and wife Kathy, Gary Robinson and wife Linda, of Redwood Falls; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathleen Zilka; and an infant sister.
He was born April 15, 1946, in Redwood Falls, to Willard and Olivine (Fagen) Robinson, Sr. He graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1964. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1965 until 1967 and was stationed in Osaka, Japan. He married Joanne Raddatz on Oct. 27, 1973, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Morgan. After service he helped on the family farm and then worked at Uptown Skelly. He worked as an office repair technician for 23 years until 1992. For the past nine years he has been employed at Jackpot Junction as a buffet supervisor.

Viola Nelson, 93, of Hutchinson, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Bums Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson,
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Hutchinson with burial in the Zion Methodist Church Cemetery in Buffalo Lake.
