Sheldon S. Larson, 91, of Winthrop, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery with military rites by the Winthrop Honor Guard.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop and continues at 8 a.m. Thursday.

Elton G. Hardy, 81, of Redwood Falls, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls.
Mass of the Christian burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Burial with military honors will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Memorials can be made to St. Catherine's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of St. Paul; nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother LeRoy.
He was born on Aug. 28, 1919, in Redwood Falls to Wesley and Magdalina (Mahal) Hardy. H graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1937. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps (now the U.S. Air Force) in May 1942 and served until October 1945. He was part of the 451st Bomb Squadron, 322nd Bomber Group stationed in England for nearly three years during World War II. He worked for his brother Roy at Redwood Ready Mix Concrete Company until he retired. He lived with and cared for his mother until her death in 1985. He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, where he was a lector for over 20 years. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and VFW.
Edwin Hasse, 94, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Lake Crystal Health Care Center.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with burial in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services at the church on Thursday.
Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church, or school, or to an organization of the donor's choice.
Ardis M. Saunders, 70, of rural Odin died on Sunday, May 6, 2001, at her son's home in rural Odin.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Odin, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Gloria Saunders of rural Odin, Mark and Jill Saunders of rural Odin, Paul Saunders of rural Butterfield, and Doug Saunders of rural Odin; brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Georgia Eng of rural St. James; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and other relatives.
She was born on June 7, 1930, to Thorvald and Mary (Laingen) Eng in Cedar Township, Martin County. She graduated from St. James High School. She worked for Superintendent A.J Cole at St. James High School for three years. She worked in the Odin Elevator office. She married Herbert C. Saunders on March 29, 1952, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Odin. The couple operated a dairy farm in Odin Township, and She worked in the deli at Super Fair Foods in St. James. She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Odin, WELCA and altar guild.
Roland Becker, 70, of Springfield, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Springfield. Military rites will be performed by the Springfield American Legion.
Visitation will be at the funeral home 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Becker of Springfield; children and their spouses, Mitchell and Cindy of Rosemont, Michael and Lillea of Gaylord, Merrick and Chris of Shakopee, Marty of Comfrey, Joni and Jim Deibele of Springfield, Jane and Doug Domeier of Sleepy Eye; stepchildren, Brad and Alba Leopold of Ft. Walton Beach, FIa., Julie and Jim Bauer of Springfield, 20 grandchildren; brother Walter and wife Rose of Michigan; and sister Maria and husband Val Albertson of SpringfIeld.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Matthew; brothers, Otto, Kenneth and Wilbert; sisters, Martha, Erna, Margaret and Ruth.
He was born on Oct. 6, 1930, in Springfield to Henry and Maria (Heberling) Becker. He graduated from Sanborn High School in 1947. He entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He worked with his brother Wilbert "Pee Wee" building houses in Sanborn and the surrounding areas. He married Betty Bauch on July 27, 1959, in Storm Lake, Iowa. He operated a TV shop in Springfield. He worked at the Springfield High School as a janitor and also for the Minneapolis Star Tribune until he retired In 1996. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield and the Springfield American Legion.
Frieda Scharmer, 85, of Brownton, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Glencoe Area Health Center.
Services were Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Brownton.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Carol Polzin of Norwood, three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Arthur Polizin and friend, Lorraine Mielke of Glencoe; brother-in-law, Herman Harbarth of Hutchinson; and two sisters-in-law, Gladys Lehmberg of Owatonna, and Donalean and husband George Harris of Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Alvina Polzin; husband, Harold on Sept. 1, 1995; sisters, Esther Lemke, Martha Harbarth, Ruth Schauer and Ida Tongen; and brothers, William Polzin and Walter Polzin.
She was born July 5, 1915, in Bismarck Township, Sibley County to August and Alvina (Furst) Polzin. She attended country school in Bismarck Township. She married Harold G. Scharmer on Jan. 22, 1939, in Bismarck Township. The couple farmed south of Brownton, until the mid 1960s. They moved into Brownton in 1966. She worked at Hands Inc., Hutchinson. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Brownton.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice of Winthrop; sons, Christopher Larson of St. Anthony and Eric Larson of Norwood, Mass.; grandchildren, Erica Malorzo of Nashua, N.H., Sarah Larson of Biddeford, Maine, Charles Larson of Minneapolis; great-grandson, Nathan Malorzo; sister Victoria Lamb of Portland, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gordon Larson; and sisters, Marvel Johnson and Eva Jane Saunders.
He was born on April 10, 1910, to F. Victor and Emma Louise (Olson) Larson in Winthrop. He graduated from Winthrop High School in 1928 and the University of Minnesota in 1932 with a degree in history and in 1934 with a law degree. He married Bernice Quandt on Nov. 25, 1937, in Minneapolis. He practiced law in Winthrop for 60 years before retiring in 1994. He began his law practice with his father-in-law, Charles Quandt. From 1954 to 1975 he practiced on his own until Gregory Engwall joined him. He also served as president and manager of L.J. Larson & Company, a hardware and implement business until 1973. He served in the Navy from 1944-46. He was a member of Winthrop American Legion Post 314 for 55 years. He was elected president of the Minnesota Bar Association in 1966 and served in the American Bar Association's House of Delegates from 1966-69. He served as director of the American Judicature Society. He was trust officer of the Winthrop Cemetery Association and served as Winthrop's city attorney for 25 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Winthrop Golf Club and the New Ulm Community Concert Association.
Edwin Hasse, 94, of Lake Crystal, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at the Lake Crystal Health Care Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato, with burial in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery.

He is survived by a son and wife, Glenn and Beverly of Mankato; foster daughter and her husband, Virginia and Tollof Shellum of Nicollet; granddaughters and their husband, Dawn and mark Redlin of Madison lake, Debra and Paul Heinze of Eau Claire, Wis.; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Agnes Ziegenhagen of Morgan; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, five brothers, four sisters, and a grandniece.
He was born July 10, 1906, in Morgan to Herman and Amelia (Steuk) Hasse. He married Alma Mieske on Sept. 26, 1934, in Nicollet. They owned and operated Gamble-Skogmo Grocery & Hardware Store in Nicollet for 53 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. He had been a former member and past president of Faith Lutheran Church in Nicollet and a former member of Nicollet Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Board of Regents for Immanuel Lutheran College in Eau Claire, Wis., for 12 years.
Harold Johnson, 87, of Springfield and Spicer, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Rice Memorial Hospital, Willmar.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Springfield with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. A men's rosary will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Fern Johnson of Springfield; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandee and John James of Colorado Springs, Colo., Roxie Denne of Las Vegas, Nev., Sally and Bob Mayer of Springfield; sons, Terry (Butch) and Marjie of Springfield, Ron (Che Che) and Eileen of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Evelyn Jenson of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Violet Meyer.
He was born May 19, 1913, in Springfield to Claus and Effie (Matter) Johnson. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1931. He worked with his dad at Johnson Plumbing and Heating. He entered the U.S. Army in October 1942 and served in the European Theatre in France and Denmark. He was discharged in January 1946. He returned to Springfield, changing the name of the business to Springfield Plumbing and Heating. He attended Dunwoody Institute to obtain his Master License in mechanical engineering. He was a member of Southwest Minnesota Contractors Association. He was the third of five generations in his family to work at Johnson's and Springfield Plumbing and Heating. He helped with many community projects, including the golf course, the American Legion Club, the Springfield High School, St. Raphael's Church, the hospital and several others. He was a 26-year member of the Springfield Fire Department, a 50-year member of John Watson American Legion Post 257, a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He played in the Springfield Orpheus Band.
Luverne 'Louie' Lowinske, 78, of 903 15th South St., New Ulm, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the New Ulm veterans organizations.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and continues one hour before the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Lowinske of New Ulm; daughters and son-in-law, Gail and John Berg of Rochester, Eileen Lowinske of Albuquerque, N.M., and Dawn Storandt of West Lafayette, Ind.; grandchildren, Andrea Berg, Philip Berg and Michael Lowinske; sister, Elaine Black of Hutchinson; half sisters, Irene Keller of New Ulm and Gertrude Memmenga, a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop; and sister-in-law, Hazel Lowinske of Sleepy Eye.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elvera Zupfer; and brother, Marvin Lowinske.
He was born April 16, 1923, in Home Township, Brown County, to Theodore and Martha (Rolloff) Lowinske. He graduated from Sleepy Eye High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served from March 6, 1942, to December 6, 1946. He served in the South Pacific as an Aviation Radioman 1st class. After his discharge, he worked for the Mankato Municipal Airport. He married Donna Knapper on Sept. 5, 1952, in New Ulm. He worked for the New Ulm Rural Telephone Company for 36 years, retiring in 1985. He worked for the Clarey's Fire and Safety Equipment in Rochester as a salesman. He learned to fly an airplane at age 15 and continued to fly throughout his lifetime. He owned several planes and also worked as a crop duster. He was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm where he served on several boards. He was a member of the New Ulm Fire Department for 30 years, serving on the Hook and Ladder Company and as chief from Jan. 1, 1974 to Dec. 31, 1984. He was member of the New Ulm Legion Post 132 and was a past commander of the post, New Ulm VFW Post 1648, New Ulm DAV, New Ulm Lions Club where he was an original organizer of the first fly-in breakfast, and the Experimental Airplane Association. He was a board member of the Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes in New Ulm and a past member of the Sleepy Eye Drum and Bugle Corps.
Allan J. Hansen, 40, of Benton, Ark., died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at the Benton Nursing Home in Benton.
Memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield. Burial will be at Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield.
He was born March 22, 1960, in New Ulm to James E. and Helen Hansen.
He is survived by his mother, Helen Hansen of Pea Ridge, Ark.; sisters, Carol Mather of Nevada, Iowa, and Mary Ray of Phoenix, Ariz., and several nieces and nephews.
Silverius J. 'Sarge' Schweiss, 77, of Sauk Rapids, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sauk Rapids, with burial with military honors by the Sauk Rapids American Legion Post 254 in the parish cemetery.
Visitation is 4-9 p.m. today at Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids. Sauk Rapids American Legion Post 254 will pray at 6:30 p.m., and there will be parish prayers at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice of Sauk Rapids; daughters and sons, Peggy Benoit, Diane Hall, and Joseph of Sauk Rapids, Eugene of Maple Grove, Mary Midas and Jerome of Foley, and LuAnn Helgeson of Monticello; brothers and sister, Arnold of New Ulm, Leona Mathiowitz of Sleepy Eye, and George of Gibbon; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two stepgrandchildren, and one stepgreat-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; an infant grandson; and sister, Florence Kotton.
He was born Dec. 22, 1923, in Fairfax to Joseph and Hedwig (Huhn) Schweiss. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He married Bernice Reinhofer Jan. 10, 1959, in St. Cloud. He was self employed as a plumber in the Sauk Rapids area. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sauk Rapids American Legion Post 254.
Alden Olson, 86, of rural Gibbon died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Winthrop Good Samaritan Care Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon with burial in the Clear Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Cornish Township, Sibley County.
Visitation is 9:30-11 a.m. Friday at Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his sister, Mildred Lind of Winthrop; sister-in-law, Evelyn Olson, of the Winthrop Good Samaritan Care Center; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Edythe Olson, Margaret Kreft, Viola Olson in infancy; and brothers, Hilder Olson, Elliot Olson and Burton Olson.
He was born on March 10, 1915, in Gibbon to Hans J. and Minnie (Lunderborg) Olson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He farmed in Cornish Township, Sibley County and retired in 1980. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon.
Harold Renner, 86, of Springfield died on Thursday, May 10, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, with burial in the Springfield City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen and Denton (Red) Kohlhof of Hackensack, Margery Renner of Springfield, Janelle and Mel Hopp of Nicollet; son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Ethel Renner of Rochester; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Hertha Prechel of Springfield, and Dorothy Geschwind of Sleepy Eye; sister-in-law, Bea Renner of Springfield; and brother-in-law, Udo Viergutz of Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margery; son. Russell; brothers, George and Arnold Renner; and sisters, Mildred Todd, Helene Viergutz and Lucille Renner.
He was born on April 15, 1915, to Andrew and Helene (Schmidt) Renner in Springfield. He grew up in Springfield and attended public school there. He married Margery Delaine Geschwind on Nov. 8, 1939, in Sleepy Eye. They lived in Springfield where Harold worked as a mechanic at Ochs Brick and Tile, as engineer and maintenance at the power plant, and owned and operated his own blacksmith shop. He also worked at Immanuel Hospital in Mankato. He retired in 1981. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Springfield.
Lyle Bishop, 78, of Hector, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at the Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Hector, with burial in Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Hughes Funeral Home, Hector and at the church, one hour prior to the service.
