John Trebelhorn, 88, of Northfield, formerly of Winthrop, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Northfield Care Center.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Northfield, with burial in Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Bierman Funeral Home, Northfield.
He is survived by his wife, Erna; daughters and sons-in-law, Marion and Gordon Larson of Nerstrand, Bonnie and Tom McKown of Northfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Sandy of Nerstrand, Roger and Sheryl of Northfield, Larry of Lakeville, Byron and Susan of Apple Valley; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frieda and Melvin Klockman and Bertha and Gerald Newbarth, all of Winthrop; sisters-in-law, Esther and Minnie Trebelhorn, both of Winthrop; 15 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mary Berns and brothers, Alex, Edward, Benjamin, and Leonard Trebelhorn.
He was born May 15, 1938 in Estherville, Iowa to Phillip and Anna (Rohrig) Trebelhorn. The family farmed in the Dakotas before farming near Winthrop for many years. He married Erna Bauer on May 15, 1938 in Winthrop. They farmed near Winthrop and Felton before moving to Bloomington in 1966 where he did plant maintenance for 10 years. They retired in Northfield and helped their son Jim farm until 1990. He belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church, Northfield.

Esther Jaeger, 84, of Buffalo Lake, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Burns Manor Nursing Home, Hutchinson.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Buffalo Lake, with burial in Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are with Hughes Funeral Home, Hector.

Harold A. Manderfeld, 67, formerly of rural Hanska, died Friday, April 6, 2001 at the Hilcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in rural Searles.
Visitation will be 4 -8 p.m. today and 7:30-10:30 AM Tuesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Harold is survived by his sisters, Hildegard Manderfeld and Agnes Manderfeld, both of New Ulm; a brother and sister-in-law, Willard and Alice Manderfeld of rural New Ulm; and by four nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Marcella Manderfeld; and a brother Stanley Manderfeld.
Harold was born June 2, 1933 in Sigel Township, Brown County to Eugene and Hildegard (Drexler)
Manderfeld. He attended St. John's Catholic School in Searles. He farmed with his parents until 1970 when he moved to a group home in New Ulm. He lived in various group homes in the New Ulm area and worked at MRCI. He participated in the Special Olympics and the New Ulm Adult day services. He was a resident of the Lake Crystal Health Care Center in Lake Crystal from 1996-1998 and then became a resident of the Hilcrest Health Care Center in Mankato. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm and a former member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles.

Clara Roepke, 97, of Stewart, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Fernando, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church Monday, one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements are with Hantge Funeral Chapel, Brownton.
She is survived by her children, Lyle and Noreen of Stewart; Lloyd and Rita of Brownton, Charles and Marlene of Winthrop, Walter of Litchfield, and Valeria (Val) Uecker of Brownton; 13 Grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren; brothers Arthur Kuehn of Echo, George and Marion Kuehn of Renville, a sister-in-law, Deloris Seme of Belview; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin; brothers, Paul, Alex, William, Walter, and Harold Kuehn and Gerhold Kuehn in infancy; sisters, Emma Stelter, Alma Stelter, Lorena Bendix, Ella Kuehn and Viola Kuehn, in infancy.
She was born on Jan. 21, 1904, in Echo to Alexander and Bertha (Muenchow) Kuehn. She attended rural country school. She married Ervin Roepke Aug. 27, 1931. They lived in Stewart. Ervin died Jan. 29, 1978. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Fernando.

Erna Thill Schugel, 81, of 1610 Sunset Avenue, Sunset Apartments, in New Ulm died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota
Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.

Elvira Abraham, 90, of Fairfax, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Fairfax Community Home.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax, Minnesota with burial in the church cemetery,
Visitation begins at 12:30 p.m. and continues until time of service Wednesday at the church.
Arrangements are handled by Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel.
She is survived by daughter, Mary Fravert and son-in-law, Jim Fravert of Brookfield, Wisc.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Amanda Briese; husband, Arthur Abraham; son, Wayne Abraham; sisters, Irene Kiecker and Ordella Miffelman; and brother, Raymond Briese.
She was born on June 12, 1910, in Gibbon to Julius and Amanda (Dickmeyer) Briese. She graduated from tile Gibbon High School in 1928. On Aug. 29, 1929, she married Arthur Abraham in Gibbon. They lived in Gibbon for 25 years, and then in various communities before retiring in Franklin in 1975. She moved to the Fairfax Apartments in 1985. She was an active member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax. In June 1990, she became a resident of the Fairfax Community Home.

The Rev. Dwight R. Johnson, 70, of White Bear Lake, former pastor of First Lutheran Church in Winthrop from 1974-84, died April 2, 2001.
A memorial service is set for 3 p.m., Saturday, May 12, at First Lutheran Church, 4000 Linden Avenue (County Road F and Highway 61), White Bear Lake,
Memorials are preferred.
He is survived by his wife Sylvia of White Bear Lake; children and their spouses, David and Cindy Johnson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Laura and Paul Pavel of Oakdale; Kenji and Mika Johnson of White Bear Lake; six grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne E. and Ann Johnson of Canoga Park, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law, Melba and the Rev. J. Dean Gevik of Baxter; nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
He was born Jan. 13, 1931, in St. Peter, G. Raymond and Helen C. (Johnson) Johnson. He attended St. Peter High School and Gustavus Adolphus College. He served in the Army as a medical corpsman overseas in the Korean War. He married Sylvia Johnson of White Bear Lake on July 20, 1953, in Berlin. He attended Augustana Lutheran Theological Seminary in Rock Island, Ill., and was ordained in 1960. He was a missionary to Japan. He served as pastor at churches in Benson, Starbuck, Danvers, and Winthrop, Minn.; and Glendale, Calif. He received a master's of divinity from Chicago Lutheran Seminary. He received the Distinguished Service Award in 1992 from the Japanese Government Department of Foreign Affairs in recognition of his efforts that brought hundreds of Japanese students to the United States to study. He retired in 1996.

Beatrice Koehler, 100, of Moorhead, formerly of New Ulm, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Eventide home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. today at Plymouth Congregational Church, Fargo, with burial Wednesday in New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will at the church Tuesday, one hour prior to the service.
Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home of Fargo is handling arrangements.
She is survived by her daughter, Lois Fritz of West Fargo, N.D.; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, George Oliver of Mariposa, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978.
She was born Dec. 13, 1900, to Harry and Clara (Vollmer) Oliver at Stillwater. She attended grade school in Minneapolis. She graduating from high school in New Ulm in 1918 where she played center on the basketball team. She worked as a secretary in Sioux Falls, S.D. She married Armin E. Koehler, of New Ulm, on April 15, 1922, in Minneapolis. They lived in Omaha, Neb.; Aberdeen, S.D.; and Fargo. She worked for the Red Cross during World War II. She was a longtime member of Plymouth Congregational Church, North Dakota Federation of Music Clubs for over 50 years, PEO AM Chapter and the Fine Arts Club.

Erna Thill Schugel, 81, of 1610 Sunset Ave., died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 4:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Rita Kollmann of North Mankato, Ruth and Roger Voges of Courtland, Betty and Tom Giefer of New Ulm; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Jean Thill of Courtland; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Alma Voges of Courtland, Leorda Marxhausen of Bloomington, Myrtle Fischer of New Ulm, and Marie and her husband, Allen Leinberger, of Beverly Hills, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edwin and Leanora Gieseke, Bill and Betty Gieseke, Vernon and Myrtle Gieseke, Jim and Maureen Gieseke, all of New Ulm, and Gerald and Delores Gieseke of Mahnomen; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Gieseke of Henderson, June Gieseke of Fosston, Mildred Gieseke of New Ulm, and Helen Baier of New Ulm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Sylvester Thill, second husband, Harold Schugel; an infant son, Robert; and brothers, Lorenz, Marlin, and Reinhold Gieseke.
She was born Jan. 9, 1920, in Brighton Township, Nicollet County to William D. and Marie (Ulrich) Gieseke. She graduated from DMLC High School in New Ulm. On April 16, 1941, she married Sylvester Thill at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. They lived in Courtland. She worked at the Wearwell Garment Factory, Windings, and Tactronics in New Ulm. She worked as a cook at the Lafayette Good Samaritan Center. On Jan. 11, 1980, she married Harold Schugel at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. They lived in Courtland. In 1993 she moved to New Ulm. She moved to the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye on Feb. 19, 2001. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Nicollet and the Senior Citizens in New Ulm.

Donald Walters, 77, of Darfur, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at the St. James Health Services Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Darfur, with burial in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Darfur.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-9 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, Comfrey, and at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by wife, Mary of Darfur; son, Douglas of Alexandria; son-in-law, Joe Gordon of Butterfield; four grandchildren; sisters, Lorraine Schulte of Comfrey, Edna Stadtlander of Comfrey; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Laura of Good Thunder; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lori Ann Gordon; grandson; and sister Violet Ott.
He was born April 12, 1923 in Mountain Lake to Dirk (D.R.) and Helen (Jenkins) Walters. He attended District 47 in rural Mountain Lake. He started farming in Selma Township, Cottonwood County. He married Mary Schmitt in Mountain Lake on Sept. 14, 1943. The couple farmed in Selma Township until 1956 when they moved to Osakis, farming there until 1965. They returned to Darfur and purchased the Country Market. He worked at Darfur Implement for seven years and at Tri County Oil Company in Darfur until his retirement in 1985. He worked part time with the City of Darfur, in maintenance and reading the meters. He was fire chief for several years and served as mayor and justice of the peace of Darfur. He was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Darfur and served on the cemetery board.

Lucille M. Egge, 79, died Sunday, April 9, 2001, at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital, Mankato.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, St. James, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, and at the church Saturday one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Ev Houkom of Park Falls, Wis., and Carol and Hal Nelson of Dayton; seven grandchildren; sister, Eileen Van Havermeat of Sauk Centre; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Cecil Stegner.
She was born Dec. 6, 1921, in Sauk Centre to Clayton and Viola (Wells) Stegner. She graduated from Sauk Centre High School and continued her education in nursing at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. She married Iver K. Egge on July 31, 1943, in Duluth. They lived in Churchville, Md., and Japan before moving to St. James. She worked as a nurse for a doctor and was the St. James High School school nurse for 24 years.

Ruth E. Siebert, 91, of Faribault, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at the District One Hospital, Faribault.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church, Faribault with burial in the Springfield Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault and at the church one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by children and their spouses, Naomi and Kenneth Matthes of Regina, Canada, Ellie and Jerrell Sharp of Springfield, Mo., Daniel and Carin Siebert of Eagan and Richard Siebert of St. Paul; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Ted and Martin Winter; and sisters, Esther Jensen and Laura Larson.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given in memory of Ruth E. Siebert.
She was born on Sept. 11, 1909, in Cumberland, Wisc., to Theodore and Bertha (Gleue) Winter. She married Emil Siebert on Dec. 6, 1935, in Sleepy Eye. He preceded her in death on January 29, 1973. She was employed by Faribault Regional Center and the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf.

Vernon 'Buddy' Grams, 79, of 609 1st Street S.E. in Fairfax, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Fairfax Community Home.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wellington Township, Renville County with burial in the church cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Fairfax Honor Guard.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and continue one hour before the service Tuesday at the church.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Doreen Grams of Fairfax; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Bill Schulzetenberg of Glendale, Ariz.; three grandchildren; a sister, Adeline Ubl of Sleepy Eye; a sister-in-law, Mary Olsen of Olathe, Kansas; brother-in-law, Floyd Parry and his wife, Dorothy of Morganville, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Albert Parry.
He was born April 18, 1921, in Wellington Township, Renville County to Gustav T. and Ida (Bulau) Grams. He attended Emanuel Lutheran School in Wellington Township, Renville County. He served in the United States Army from September 1942 to November 1945. On Jan. 12, 1946, he married Doreen Parry in Clay Center, Kansas. He farmed in Wellington Township, Renville County, and did part-time livestock trucking. In 1973 he became a full-time trucker, hauling milk for the Fairfax Creamery. He later drove truck hauling both tile and bulk milk. He was a member of the Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, V.F.W. and American Legion in Fairfax.

Kenneth W. Hillesheim, 77, of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at his home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye with burial in the church cemetery with military rites by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard.
Visitation is 4:30-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Monday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude (Fischer) Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye; children and their spouses, Barbara and Timothy Kleiter of St. Paul; Carol Hillesheim of Burnsville; Michael and Marian Hillesheim of Maple Grove; Patrick Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye; Marilyn and Michael Schauman of Sleepy Eye; Joanna and Jeff Schmid of Sleepy Eye; Kenwyn and Rich Evers of Olivia; Maggie and Jim Schroepfer of Sleepy Eye; Robert and Dana Hillesheim of Buffalo Lake; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Leon Braulick of Searles, Marion and Art Sellner of Sleepy Eye, Sylvester and Mary Hillesheim of Springfield, Meinrad Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye; sisters-in-law, Sophie Kral of Sleepy Eye, Irene Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Hedwig Guggisberg, Martha Neyers and Rosella Ludewig; brothers, Charles Hillesheim, Clarence Hillesheim, Arnold Hillesheim and Raymond Hillesheim.
He was born Nov. 18, 1923, in Stark Township, Brown County, to Meinrad and Bertha (Wiltscheck) Hillesheim, Sr. He attended Qualtrap School District 425 and St. Mary's School in Sleepy Eye. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945 and served two years in Kiyota, Japan, as an MP and cook after the bombing of Hiroshima. He married Gertrude Fischer on Nov. 18, 1947, at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. They lived in the Leavenworth area for several years and moved to Sleepy Eye in 1960. He started working as a carpenter and masonry worker in 1947 for his brother Clarence Hillesheim, later in 1965 for Edwin Weiss and then for the Pietrus Foods Co. in 1973 until his retirement. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign War.
