Jessica Mosel, 19, of rural Norseland, died April 17, 2001, at St. Peter Community Hospital.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter, with burial in Scandian Grove Lutheran Cemetery in Norseland.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church in Norseland and one hour prior to services at First Lutheran in St. Peter on Saturday.
Arrangements were handled by St. Peter Funeral Service.
She is survived by her parents: Jeff and Tammy of rural Norseland; sister, Ashley at home; paternal grandparents, Paul and Marilyn Mosel of Lewisville; maternal grandmother, Kathleen Fjermestad of St. Peter; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Jessica as born in Hazen, N.D., on March 18, 1982, to Jeffrey and Tammy (Fjermestad) Mosel. Jessica and her parents moved back to Minnesota in 1983. She attended St. Peter Elementary and Junior High School until 8th grade. She was a senior at the Minnesota New Country School in Henderson. She was active in 4-H.

Veronica 'Fronie' Portner, 91, of 510 14th North in New Ulm, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at New Ulm Medical Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Council will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Jerry Denn of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Delmar and Mary Ann Portner, Charles, Jr. and Audrey Portner all of New Ulm; 12 grandchildren; 22 great- grandchildren; sister, Louise Tastel of New Ulm; brother and sister-in-law, Norbert and Viola Seidl of Sleepy Eye; and a sister-in-law, Leona Seidl of Sleepy Eye.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Portner, Sr. on Aug. 31, 1997; sisters, Minnie Schroepfer, Laura Schroepfer, Clara Portner, and Evelyn Sturm; and brother, Leonard Seidl.
She was born on Dec. 1, 1909, in Stark Township, Brown County to William and Catherine (Haala) Seidl. She married Charles Portner, Sr. on Oct. 17, 1933, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They farmed in Sigel Township, Brown County until 1965 when they moved into New Ulm. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and a 50-year member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Council.

Esther Christman, 90, of St. James, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at St. James Health Services Hospital.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, St. James, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-9 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James; and at the church Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Joanne Christman of St. James; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a granddaughter; brothers, Winford Zettler, Gustof Zettler, Frederick Zettler, Carl Zettler, and Otto Zettler; and sisters, Amelia Evers, Alma Leffler, Regina Elsing, and Salma Elsing.
She was born on June 10, 1910, to Theodore and Antonia (Mueller) Zettler in Comfrey. She married Melvin Christman on July 28, 1931, in Comfrey. He died Jan.1, 1972. She was an active member of the Ladies Aid at First Lutheran church, St. James.

Floyd Gregg, 93, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
Services are 1 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Faith United Methodist Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Military rites will be provided by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Gen of Sleepy Eye; children and their spouses, Rear Admiral Noel and Karen Dysart of Silver Springs, Md., Dennis and Ginger Dysart of San Diego, Calif., Dr. Richard and Linda Dysart of Delta, Colo., and Mary Dysart of Apple Valley; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ida Gregg and Leona Gregg, both of Sleepy Eye, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; brothers, Aaron, Gerald and Glenn, and a sister, Fern Remus.
He was born Feb. 16, 1908, in Linden, Iowa, to Paul and Myrtle (England) Gregg. He graduated from Sleepy Eye High School and attended barber school in Minneapolis. He owned and operated Floyd's Barber Shop. Floyd entered the United States Army on Nov. 9, 1943, serving during World War II in central Europe until his discharge on Dec. 23, 1945. He returned to Sleepy Eye and continued to operate the barber shop until his retirement in 1980. He married Hazel Heimann on Sept. 30, 1934, in New Ulm. She preceded him in death in 1965. He married Gen Dysart on Aug. 31, 1979, in Springfield. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, Sleepy Eye Golf Club and past Chamber of Commerce member. He ran the football downs markers at Sleepy Eye Public School for many years.

Alvin F. Bening, 80, of Arlington, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Sibley Medical Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Arlington with burial in Arlington Public Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Fenske Funeral Home in Arlington; and continues one hour before the services Saturday at the church.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Lester and Barbara Bening of Arlington; grandsons, Douglas, Grant and Bradley Bening.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel on July 22, 1993; and sister, Laura Kube.
He was born March 1, 1921, to Fred and Pauline (Kistner) Bening in Arlington Township. He attended country school. He married Mabel Neubarth on June 7, 1942, at First Lutheran Church in Glencoe. He farmed in Arlington Township. He was also employed by Big Stone Canning Company.

Myrtle Jahnke, 83, of Hector, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Olivia Healthcare Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector with burial in the city cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector; and continues one hour before services Monday at the church.

Melvin Stiehm, 78, of Lodi, formerly of New Ulm and Gibbon, died Saturday, April 14, 2001 at a convalescent hospital in Lodi.
Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Monday at New Ulm City Cemetery.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Gierhart-Wells & Donohue Funeral Home in Lodi.
Firle Funeral Home of New Ulm is handling arrangements.
He is survived by his brother, LeRoy of Sleepy Eye; a sister, Lorraine Schwartz of Franklin; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers.
He was born Jan. 10, 1923, in Gibbon to Ferdinand and Hulda (Possin) Stiehm. He attended school in Gibbon and joined the Merchant Marines. He also worked for a railroad in several western states and for a railroad in Australia for six years. He moved to California in 1970, settling in Lodi in 1986.

Lawrence E. Ahern, 75, of Kasson, formerly of Madelia, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church, St. James, with burial in Butterfield City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-10 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James. A Christian Mother's Rosary will be held at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife Beverly; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Armbrust of Sauk Rapids, Debra and Steven Sehr of Osage, Jodi and David Miller of LeRoy; son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Binga of Fargo, N.D.; ten grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Francis and Monica of North Mankato, and Albert of Madelia; sisters and brothers in-law, Myrtle and Harold Warner of Madelia, and Marion and Curtis Hanson of Mankato; sisters and brothers in-law, Ruby and Eldon Ekstrom of Butterfield, Kathleen Pierson of Butterfield, Vivian and Clarence Blomqren of Mountain Lake, and Eloise and Leo Zellmer of Waterville, brother-in-law, Leland and wife Marilyn Pierson of Trimont; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Claire, sisters-in-law, Mary and Carole, brother-in-law, Nels Pierson, nephew, Michael, and niece, Johanna Kay Pierson.
He was born Jan. 12, 1926, in Dexter, to John and Mary Lillian (Duffy) Ahern. He graduated from Madelia High School and obtained a Master Boilerman's License from Mankato Vo-Tech. He married Beverly Pierson on June 6, 1953, in Madelia. He served in the U.S. Navy in WW II in the Pacific. He was an engineer in the food processing industry and worked for Stokley Van Camp and Tony Downs Foods.

Myrtle Jahnke, 83, of Hector, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the Olivia Healthcare Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul' s Lutheran Church in Hector with burial in the Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation will be will 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, and one hour prior to the service at the chuch Monday.
She is survived by her husband Herbert of Hector; children, Francis and Evan of Elk River, and Janice and Victor Albrecht of Minneapolis; six grandhildren; a great-granddaughter; brother, Robert Ewer of Bird Island; sister and brother-in-law, Enid and Stanley Baker of Post Falls, Idaho; sisters-in-law, Elfrieda Jurisch of Hector, Violet Jahnke of Hector, Dorothy Ewer of Bird Island, and Catherine Ewer of Olivia; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
She was born April 7,1918, in Kingman Township, rural Bird Island, to George Sr. and Ora Mae (Senescall) Ewer. She grew up in the Bird Island area and attended the Bird Island School. She married Herbert Jahnke on March 21, 1936, in Hector. They lived in Hector. She worked at the Telephone Company, Peterson's Grocery Store, and as a bookkeeper for the Hector Farmers Elevator. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector.

Chester Tisue, 90, of rural Redwood Falls died Thursday, April 19, 2001 at his home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Gloria Del Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. to noon Monday at the Nelson Martin Funeral Home, Redwood Falls and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy; daughter and son-in-law Joan and Vilo Dahmes of Clements; nine grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son James, grandson Kenneth, and brothers Lloyd and Carl.
He was born Feb. 23, 1911, in Keya Paha County near Nordin, Neb., to Otto and Belva (Downing) Tisue. He left Nebraska at age 15, moving to Iowa and then to Minnesota at age 18. He married Dorothy DeGraaff on Feb. 25, 1933 in Winner, S.D. They farmed in Redwood County all of their married life except for 1960 when they fanned in Montana on his mother's ranch. For a time Chester worked for Allis Chalmers Implement. He quit farming at the age of 88 but never really retired. He continued renting the pasture for cattle, mending fences, fixing his machinery and taking grain to the elevator at harvest time.

Merlyn H. Harmening, 70, of Waterville, formerly of Courtland, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at his home in Waterville.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, ruralCourtland, with burial in the church Cemetery, rural Courtland.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 -11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and one hour prior service sat the church on Monday.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Harmening, of Waterville, sons and daughters-in-law Ron and Lisa Harmening of Newport, Ore., Tom and Jennifer Harmening of Burnsville, and Allan and Jean Harmening of Neillsville, Wis.; seven grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law Alice and Paul Marxhausen of Roseville; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Roman and Janice Harmening of Courtland and Duane and Marion Harmening of Roseville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Virgil Harmening.
He was born August 7, 1930, in New Ulm to Arthur and Elsie (Epke) Harmening. He was a graduate of the New Ulm Public High School and then attended Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm and Mankato State College in Mankato. He joined the U. S. Army, serving most of his time in Germany. He married Gertrude Falkensteiner on Oct. 21, 1953, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland. He was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal service out of Courtland for 42 years and worked for Courtland Concrete Products. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland, where he had held various church offices. He was a past member of the Courtland Fire Department for 29 years serving some of that time as the chief of the department. He was a past city council member for the city of Courtland and had been the mayor of Courtland. He was a past board member of the Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes, the Region Nine Development Commission, a past school board member of the Immanuel Lutheran School, rural Courtland, and a past baseball coach with the Courtland Baseball Association.

Adeline Horner, 87, formerly of New Ulm died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 - 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4:00 p.m. Monday at the Cathedral. The St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Council will pray the rosary at 5:30 p.m. and there will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. both Monday evening at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dolores and Harold Depew of Sun Valley, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Jerome "Jerry" and Jeanne Horner of rural Courtland; nine grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and a sister, Loretta Clobes of Chicago, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Waldemar Horner on Oct. 11, 1989; son, Joseph Horner; grandson, Jeffrey Horner, a great grandson and great great granddaughter; eleven brothers and a sister.
She was born on July 18, 1913, in New Ulm, to Anton and Julia (Penkert) Baier. She married Waldemar "Wally" Horner on May 27, 1930, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm.
They lived in New Ulm until 1955 when they moved to St. Paul. In 1987 they moved back to New Ulm. She worked in the bakery at Eibner's and later at Weneeda, both in New Ulm While in in St. Paul she worked at Fanny Farmer's. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, and a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Council and Christian Mother's Society.

Ted Tietz, Jr., 69, of the Prairie View Health Care Center, died Saturday, April 21, 2001 at the Tracy Hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran church in Walnut Grove.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Jacobson Funeral Horne- in Walnut Grove.
He is survived by brothers, Leonard of Windom and Arnold of Kasson; sisters, Delores (Mrs. Ervin) Zimmer of Echo and Milles (Mrs. Donald) West of Walnut Grove; a sister-in-law June Tietz, of Walnut Grove; and 13 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenny and a nephew.
He was born Sept. 20, 1931 in Clements to Theadore and Lucy (Bierman) Tietz. The family moved to Walnut Grove when he was one year old. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He attended Red Rock District 45 Rural School. He farmed with his father until 1977, then he and his mother moved to Walnut Grove in 1978. He moved into the Walnut Grove Apartments in 1985 until 2000 when he entered the Prairie View Health Care Center. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove.

Stella Pladsen, 87, of Hanska, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Lake Hanska Lutheran Church, rural Hanska, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 ­ 8 p.m. Monday, and 8 ­ 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Firle Funeral Home in Hanska, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by daughter, Elaine Vetsch and her husband Ed of Two Harbors; son, Charles Pladsen and his wife Mary of New Ulm; brother, Lester Nundahl of Madelia; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Pladsen; son Millard Pladsen; granddaughter Carrie Pladsen; brother Melvin Nundahl; and sister Mabel Tande.
She was born April 2, 1914 in Lake Hanska Township, Brown County, to Siver and Julia (Grove) Nundahl. She grew up on the family farm and attended Hanska school. She married Harry Pladsen on Sept. 28, 193, at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church. They farmed in Lake Hanska Township until retiring and moving into Hanska in 1976. Following her husband's death in 1989, she continued to live in Hanska until moving to Luther Memorial Home in Madelia in December 2000.
She was a lifelong member of the Lake Hanska Lutheran Church and active in church organizations, including Ladies Aid.

Clara E. Davis, 90, of Redwood Falls and formerly of Wabasso, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Wood Dale Nursing Home, Redwood Falls.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m., Aug. 18, 2001, at Redwood Valley Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by children and their spouses, Delores and Robert Van Kuelen of Bettendorf, Iowa, Donna Texas, and George and Earlene Davis of Wabasso; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; brother, Sam Krueger of California; and stepsister, Dorothy Ellefson of Pipestone.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; several brothers and stepsisters; grandson, Charles; and great-granddaughter, Jamie.
She was born July 1, 1910, in St. Paul to Eric Tupeck and Anna (Mahauk) Krueger. She attended country school. She married Phillip S. Davis on Nov. 20, 1934. They farmed in New Avon Township, Redwood County. Minnesota, until 1974 when they moved to Wabasso. She lived in Sauk Centre before returning to Wabasso. She had been a resident of Wood Dale Nursing Home for the past three years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and its Ladies Aid.
