Hugo A. Ziegler, 89, of Green Isle, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Waconia Good Samaritan Center.
Services will be 7 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Green Isle, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Monday at the church. Fenske Funeral Home in Arlington is handling arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Lorna Ziegler of Green Isle; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Sharon Ziegler of Green Isle; daughters and sons-in law, Mavis and Fred Fleming of Waconia; Eldrene and Ruben Ebert of Gaylord, and Diane and Rick Nelson of Alexandria; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer Ziegler of Green Isle, Bernard and Eleanora Ziegler of Winthrop, and a brother-in-law, Ted Garvais of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, LeRoy; a brother, Gerhard, and a sister, Eleanor.
He was born Dec. 19, 1911, in Green Isle Township, Sibley County, to Martin and Ottiliea (Bullert) Ziegler. As a child he attended Rural School District 33. On April 12, 1936, he married Lorna Lehmberg at Zion Lutheran Church of Green Isle Township. He farmed in Green Isle Township until the late 1970s when he retired and helped his son continue farming the site.
He was a former 4-H leader, and secretary of the State of Minnesota Milking Short Horn Association.

Jeffrey Hanson, 19, of Brookings, South Dakota, formerly of Spicer and Olivia, died Friday, June 1, 2001 at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Olivia, with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hector.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hughes Funeral Rome in Hector and continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
Jeffrey is survived by his parents Lori and Roger Hanson, of Spicer; special friend Jamie Roth, of Rapid City, S.D.; grandparents Adeline Hanson, of Minneapolis, Delbert and LaVonne Boyum, of Hector, and Audrey Gruendeman, of Clayton, Wis.; a great-grandfather, Art Boyum, of Fairfax, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Jeffrey was preceded in death by his brother Benjamin, and grandfather Waldo A. Hanson.
Jeffrey Roger Hanson was born Sept. 3, 1981 in Hutchinson to Roger A. and Lori L. (Boyum) Hanson. He was baptized on Oct. 25, 1981 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector and was confirmed May 21, 1995 at Zion Lutheran, Church in Olivia. He attended Buffalo Lake-Hector School for a number of years and attended and graduated from Bird Island-Olivia-Lake Lillian District School in 1999. He attended and graduated with Honors from Ridgewater College in Willmar with an A.S. Degree, and was currently attending South Dakota State University in Brookings. He had been working part-time as a Design Engineer for an electronics company while attending school. Jeffrey was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Olivia, and Sigma Phi Delta.

Sylvester "Bud" Larson, 81, of Lafayette, died Thursday, May 31, 2001 at this home in Lafayette.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette. Burial with full military honors conducted by the Lafayette American Legion Post #300 will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church. A parish prayer service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Survivors include his sons, Dan Larson and his wife Susan of Maple Grove, Todd Larson and his wife Karen of Santa Maria, Calif.; five grandchildren; sisters, Meryle McQuitty of Kansas City, Zada Kallin of St. Paul, Dorothy Leiferman of Mankato; sisters-in-law, Cel Zieske of New Ulm, Marian Stevenson of Nicollet, Virginia Griebel and her husband Gene of Lafayette; a brother-in-law, Richard Meurer and his wife Bid of Nicollet; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Anna Mae Larson Jan. 29, 2001, and sister Evelyn Adams.
He was born Sept. 6, 1919 to Chris and Zada (Christianson) Larson in Pierre, S.D., where he spent his youth and attended school. He entered the United States Army in 1941, serving in the Philippines and Korea during World War II. He married Anna Mae Meurer on June 16, 1942 in Port Townsend, Wash. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, they moved to Nicollet County, where he farmed for several years. He was a truck driver for JR Schugel Trucking for 20 years. They moved into Lafayette in 1961. Following his wife's death earlier this year, he continued to make his home in Lafayette. He was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Lafayette, and Lafayette American Legion Post #300.

Cecilia Ann Marben, 93, Lamberton, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lamberton, with burial in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, with a parish rosary at 7 p.m. and Parish Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m., at Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton, and will continue one hour prior to church service.
She is survived by daughters, Helene Louise and Charles Pritchett of Bloomington, Wis., Mary Ann and Jon Gislason of Cumberland, Wis., and Janet Catherine and Cletus Foy of Houston, Tex.; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Paul and Richard Marben; four sisters; and a brother.
Cecilia Ann was born July 15, 1907, to John and Alvena (Krueger) Schwengle in Waterbury Township, Redwood County. She attended country school and elementary school in Wanda and graduated from Lamberton High School. After graduating from Mankato Teachers College, she taught school in Morton for about four years. She married Darrell Henry Marben on July 7, 1934, in Lamberton. They lived in Lamberton where she was a long-time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Council of Catholic Women, the Ladies Bible Study Club and sang in the church choir. She also was active in Red Rock Girl Scouts organization, serving on its council, and volunteered at Valley View Manor.

Geraldine "Marni" Olson, 73, of Garden Grove, California and formerly of New Ulm died Monday, May 28, 2001 in Garden Grove, Calif.
Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2001 at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery in New Ulm at 9 a.m. on Friday.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to the time of service at the funeral home on Thursday.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie Olson-Franta of Garden Grove, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Jan Olson of Villa Park, Calif.; four grandchildren; two great granddaughters; a sister, Barbara O'Brien of Thiensville, Wis.;a brother and sister-in-law, Gerald "Bud" and Patricia Schnobrich of New Ulm; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Howard Olson on April 5, 1982.
She was born on Aug. 5, 1927 in New Ulm to Roman and Hertha (Hackbarth) Schnobrich. She married Howard Olson on Oct. 21, 1947 in Estherville, Iowa. After marriage they resided in Garden Grove, Calif. She and her husband worked for North American Aviation which later was called Rockwell International. Memorials are preferred to the New Ulm Area Catholic Schools (N.U.A.C.S.) or the Junior Pioneers.

Frances A. Seifert, 94, of Paynesville, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville.
Services will be 11 a.m. Mondayat St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville, with burial will be in the St. Louis Parish Cemetery in Paynesville.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. Monday at the church In Paynesville. Arrangements were by the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 14, 1971; brothers, Frank, Andrew, and Joseph; and sisters, Bertha Plotz, Rose Neudecker, Clara Neudecker, and Elsie Olson.
Frances was born on Nov. 10, 1906 in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, to Frank and Mary (Dussl) Bruckbauer. She married Frank Seifert on May 10, 1932 at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Wanda. After their marriage they moved to Paynesville where they owned and operated Frank's Cafe for 37 years retiring in 1969. She was a member of St. Louis Parish, Ladies Aid, Little Flower Mission Group, and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a charter member of the Paynesville Lions Club and was active in various Lions Club projects.

Roy W. Soeffker, 73, Arlington, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Sibley Medical Center in Gaylord.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Arlington, with burial in Arlington Public Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at Fenske Funeral Home in Arlington and will continue one hour prior to the church service Tuesday.
He is survived by wife Marlene of Arlington; daughters Gail and Jeffrey Prescher of Rochester and Lynn and Gary Keith of San Antonio, Tex.; brother Elmer Soeffker of Arlington; sister Marie Otto of LeSueur; brother-in-law Ronald and Ann Kloempken of Chanhassen; four grandsons; two nephews; and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruby Otto; and sisters-in-law, Lucille Soeffker and Carol Trebelhorn.
Roy was born on Jan. 27, 1928, to William and Anna (Gruenhagen) Soeffker in Arlington Township. He attended parochial school and graduated from Arlington High School in 1945. He served two years with the U.S. Army's 45th Infantry in Korea, earning the Korean Service medal with two Bronze Stars, the UN Service medal and combat infantry badge before being discharged in 1953 as a sergeant first class. He married Marlene Kloempken on Sept. 15, 1956, in rural Hamburg. Roy worked for Big Stone Canning and Dean Foods Canning Co. for 35 years and also farmed before retiring in 1993. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post 6031 in Arlington, serving as commander twice and holding other post positions. He served on the Peace Lutheran Council and as elder and usher and served as Arlington Township Treasurer for many years.

Franklin C. Westman, 91, of Mountain Lake, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. James, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m.-noon Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and will continue one hour prior to the church service.
He is survived by a son. Martin "Buzz" and Carol Westman, Butterfield; daughters Joyce Stark, St. James, and NaNola and Lester "Butch" Plath, St. Bonifacius; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Nelda Jane Westman and Nancy Nordby; a brother, Arthur; a sister Sophie Guehl; a son-in-law, brother-in-law, and former wife.
He was born June 6, 1909, to Frank and Anna (Mausling) Westman in St. James. He was educated in District 28 schools in St. James. He married Mable Senf in 1937. He farmed until 1955 when he moved into St. James. He worked for Tony Downs Food Co. in St. James and Butterfield Food Co. in Butterfield. He lived in St. James until 1996 when he moved into Eventide Nursing Home in Mountain Lake. He later moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served on the Parochial School Board.

Delroy D. Zimmerman, 67, of Rt. 1 Courtland, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with burial in the church cemetery in Nicollet Township.
Visitation is 4 - 8 p.m. today at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
He is survived by his wife, Ila Zimmerman of rural Courtland; daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen and Frank Kral of New Ulm, Lois and Gregg Bode, and Gail Groebner all of rural Courtland; sons and daughter-in-law, David and Kim Zimmerman, Dale Zimmerman, and Lance Zimmerman, all of rural Courtland; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, LouAnn Zimmerman in infancy.
He was born on Nov. 16, 1933, in Granby Township, Nicollet County, to Elmer and Irene (Havemeier) Zimmerman. He married Ila Bohlke on June 20, 1954, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Decoria Township, Blue Earth County. They farmed in the Swan Lake area near Courtland until retiring 1997. He continued to help his sons farm during retirement. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet.

Richard Stumm, 70, of Arlington, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Gaylord, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Thursday at Egesdal Funeral Home, Gaylord, and at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Harry J. Ubl, 96, formerly of New Ulm, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Ramsey Nursing Home.
Mass of Christian burial will be noon Wednesday at The Church of St. Rose, Roseville with burial in Roselawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Molly; daughters, Lois Horwath of White Bear Lake and Patricia Schleusner of Roseville; son, Richard and Vonnie of Texas; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph, and Irene of Albert Lea; sisters, Emma Iverson and Leona Grathwohl, both of New Ulm.
He was born June 15, 1904, to Joseph and Katherine (Warta) Ubl in New Ulm.
Roseville Memorial Chapel handled handled arrangements.

Rosella "Rosie" Wiltscheck, 60, of 507 N. Payne St., New Ulm, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at home.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. today at the Cathedral, and there will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, Lester Wiltscheck, of New Ulm; sister, Joanne A. Tauer, of New Ulm; nephews, Kevin Tauer and his wife, Colette, of Courtland, Steve Tauer and Daniel J. Tauer, both of New Ulm; and by four great-nieces and one great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
She was born June 20, 1940, in New Ulm to Philip and Mabel (Zander) Neidecker. She attended District 69 School in Sigel Township. On April 16, 1965, she married Lester Wiltscheck at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. They farmed in Sigel Township, Brown County, until the mid 1980s. They moved to New Ulm in 1990. She worked for seven years at the Del Monte Plant in Sleepy Eye. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, Christian Mothers Society and American Legion Auxiliary in New Ulm.

Selma Z. Deutschmann, 104, of Windom, formerly of Dovray, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Home, Westbrook.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Windom with burial in Pleasantville Cemetery, Dovray.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Arrangements are with Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home, Windom.

Richard H. Stumm, 70, of Arlington, formerly of Gaylord, died June 3, 2001, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8.30 a.m. Thursday at the Egesdal Funeral Home, Gaylord and at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law; John and Raina of Gaylord, Greg and Margie of Chaska, Mike and Sharon of Arlington; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Perry Turbett of Gaylord; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mel and Diane of Glenville, N.C., Warren and Gwen of Littleton, Colo. and Tom of Brooklyn Center; sisters and brothers-in-law; Margaret Ann and George Beeves of Falls Church, Va., and Bette and Bill Ball of Vienna, Va.; mother-in-law, Opal Squier of Gaylord; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marlene on March 16, 1999; son, Richard Jr.; brother, John II; and sisters-in-law Joann and Chris.
He was born July 7, 1930, in Alexandria, to John Stumm and Winifred (Beltz) Stumm.
He married Marlene Squier on April 26, 1953, at Congregational Church in Alexandria.
He graduated from Alexandria Central High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952 as a Seaman 3rd Class during the Korean War. He was employed by the Nelson Creamery in Nelson, Minn. He and his wife moved to Minneapolis where he was employed by a creamery. In 1970 they moved to Arlington and he worked for the Rosenberg Produce in Gaylord. In 1977 they moved to Gaylord. He retired in 1985. In 1990 they returned to Arlington. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord.

Bruce F. Wels, 44, of Cambridge, Mass., and formerly of New Ulm, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at the Massachusetts General Hospital, in Boston, Massachusetts from a brain hemorrhage.
There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. on Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The family will receive relatives and friends 6:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
A funeral service was held at the First Lutheran Church of Boston on May 30 with burial in the Cambridge Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Lynne, of Cambridge, Massachusetts; mother, Lorraine Wels, of New Ulm; brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Diana Wels of Ames, Iowa; mother-in-law Doris Dewey, and by aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ruben Wels, on Jan. 29, 1974; two uncles and his grandparents.
He was born on Aug. 22, 1956, in Fargo, N.D., to Ruben and Lorraine (Windland) Wels. He moved with his family to New Ulm in 1966 where he attended the St. Paul's Lutheran School and graduated from the New Ulm High School in 1974. He graduated with a B.S. degree from Moorhead State University and earned a master's degree in chemistry from North Dakota State University. He worked at University of Texas-Medical Branch, in Galveston, Texas. In 1988 he moved to Boston, where he worked with several pharmaceutical companies. He married Lynne Dewey on March 29, 1996, in Boston.
