Alina VerBraken, 59, of New Ulm died Friday, June 29, 2001, at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Private services are 11 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Amboy.
Private visitation is one hour prior to services at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
She is survived by sons, James Hofius of California and Kenneth Hofius and his fiancee, Vicki, both of Minneapolis; sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Les Sundsvold of Scarsville, Iowa, Rosemary and Joe Becker of Madelia, and Kay and Bob Schuck of New Ulm; brothers and sister-in-law, Michael and Yoshiko Masters of Madelia, and Richard Masters of Minneapolis; and grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Fred, Carl and Bert Masters, and sister, Marcella Ingersoll.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1941, in Martin County, to Fred and Rose (Lentz) Masters. She attended school in Good Thunder. She worked in various places in the Minneapolis area before retiring because of failing health in 1994 and moving to New Ulm.

Lorine Wiese, 85, of Newport, formerly of LeSueur, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in LeSueur, with burial in the Mound Cemetery in LeSueur.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Kolden Funeral Home in LeSueur and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by sons, Ronald of LeSueur, Eugene and his wife Sarah of St. Paul; daughter, Genevieve Brakke and husband Clifford of Woodbury; sisters, Violet Hansen and husband Leonard of Morgan, Lucille Johnson and husband Sydney of Kensington; sister-in-laws Mae Luepke and Leone Klossner of New Ulm; and three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in 1969, and brothers, Wilbert and Melvin Luepke.
She was born on Oct. 21, 1915, in Courtland Township, Nicollet County, to Herman and Frieda (Rautenberg) Luepke. She married Carl Wiese on July 2, 1935. The couple farmed in and lived in Kelso Township, Sibley County for many years. She moved to Woodbury in 1995 and lived with her daughter for a year before moving to the Red Rock Manor in Newport.

Fred Matzdorf, 89, of Buffalo Lake, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at the Renville County Hospital.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Zion United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake, with burial at the Buffalo Lake City Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Zion United Methodist Church and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his children, Charlene Podratz and husband John of Hector, Sharon Wiggert and husband Arlo of Farmington, Joy Kounkel and husband Robert of Isle; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Irene; sister Frances Harding and husband Robert, brother Ernest and wife Helen, and brother Edward and wife Loretta.
He was born on July 19, 2001, in Preston Lake Township, Renville County, to Fred and Annie (Westphal) Matzdorf. He attended school in Buffalo Lake. He married Irene Allmon on Oct. 14, 1937.

Evelyn Oestreich, 94, of New Ulm died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Burial will be at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown, Wis.
Visitation will be on Tuesday for one hour before the service at the church.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by a niece, Ruth Koelpin and her husband, Pastor Arnold, of New Ulm; grandnieces and grandnephews, Pastor Paul Koelpin and his wife, Rebecca, of New Ulm, Mark Koelpin and his wife, Rachel, of Green Bay, Wis., Pastor John Koelpin and his wife, Rebecca, of Dallas, Texas, Beth Scharf and her husband, David, of Watertown, Wis.; and by several other nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Pastor Adolf Fischer, on Dec. 1, 1956; her second husband, Arnold Oestreich, on Oct. 8, 1965; sisters, Frieda Schuelke, Esther Marcks, Millie Frank, and Erna Jaeger; and by brothers, Herman Otto and Carl Otto.
She was born on Nov. 16, 1906, in Medford, Wis., to August and Ernstina (Baumann) Otto. At an early age she moved with her family to Watertown, Wis. She graduated from high school in Watertown. On June 16, 1929, she married Pastor Adolf Fischer at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Watertown. After his death she married Arnold Oestreich on Sept. 4, 1964, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc, Wis. In the fall of 1977 she moved to New Ulm. She was a member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, Ladies Aid, Senior Citizens Club in New Ulm, and Lutheran Women's Missionary Society. She had been a volunteer for the American Red Cross.

Jean Langmo, 65 of Willmar, formerly of New Ulm, died Saturday, June 30, 2001 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
Services are 11 a.m. on Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Willmar with private burial at Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home, Willmar. There will be no visitation at the church. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
She is survived by her husband Jim; children, Michael (and Debra) Langmo of Eden Valley, Candyce S. (and Stephen) Fox of Edina, and Michelle J. (and Keith) Seidl of Highland Park; three grandchildren; her mother, Gladys Jones and her brother, Dale R. (and Joanne) Jones all of Le Sueur.
Her father preceded her in death.
She was born Oct. 15,1935 in Le Sueur to Clarence M. and Gladys M. (Schwarz) Jones. She was baptized and confirmed at United Methodist Church in LeSueur. She grew up In Le Sueur, graduating from Le Sueur High School in 1953. On Dec. 26,1953 she married James Langmo at the United Methodist Church in Le Sueur. They lived in Denver, Colo., Panama. City, Fla. and Nagoya, Japan where he served in the U.S. Air Force. Following his discharge in 1957, they moved to St. Paul while he attended the U of M. They later moved to Story City, Iowa and New Ulm, prior to moving to Willmar in 1971.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Willmar, serving in many areas, particularly the bazaar, church facilities, finances and as wedding coordinator. She also served on the Rice Hospital Board, as Lifeline Coordinator, as a gift shop volunteer, with the Blood Mobile and Meals on Wheels and other areas.

Marcus Schlumpberger, 86, of Minneapolis and formerly of the New Ulm and St. George areas died Dec. 14, 2000 in Minneapolis.
There will be a committal service at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the New Ulm City Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of local arrangements.

Raymond J. 'Ray' Zinniel, 86, of Redwood Falls, died Sunday morning at his home in Redwood Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls with burial in the church cemetery with military rites by the American Legion, VFW and National Guard Units of Redwood Falls.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home of Redwood Falls and Thursday at the funeral home from 8:30-10:00 a.m.
He is survived by a brother Joseph Zinniel and wife Celestine of Sleepy Eye; a sister Leona Fangmann and husband Lawrence of Redwood Falls; a sister-in-law Anna Zinniel of Winnebago; eight nephews and four nieces.
Besides his parents she was preceded in death by four brothers; Leo, Paul, Edward and Frank.
She was born on Dec. 29, 1914 in Bancroft Iowa to Mathias and Katherine (Sanftner) Zinniel. He moved with his family to Minnesota in 1921 living near Sleepy Eye where he attended School District 17. He lived in the Sleepy Eye and Clements area until 1942. In April, 1942 he entered the U.S. Army, serving until his discharge in 1944. He returned home and worked at different jobs before going to work for the Redwood Falls Public Utilities in 1949 and working there until retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Post 38 of Redwood Falls.

Harley Hass, 76, of Redwood Falls, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at the Redwood Falls Area HospitaL
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls, with burial with military honors in the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Friday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by son James and wife Charlotte of Roseau; daughter Kim Lange and husband Craig of Redwood Falls; four grandchildren; brothers Gene and wife Alma of Vancoover, Wash., and Don of Olalla, Wash.; sisters Delores Smith and husband Duane of Victorville, Calif., and Shirley Johnson of Dunnigan, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey on Oct. 12, 1998.
He was born on Nov. 18, 1924 in Murray, to Frank and Pearl (Gravley) Hass. He attended Murray schools. He married Audrey Bendix on June 15, 1947, in Echo. They lived in Marshall, Echo and North Redwood before moving to Redwood Falls. He was postmaster in North Redwood for more than 40 years. He served in the Army during WWII, receiving the Purple Heart for being wounded in action. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the American Legion and V.F.W.

Verna Riederer, 82, of 909 12th N. St., New Ulm, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Immanuel - St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Services are 11 a.m. today at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation is 9:30 - 11 a.m. today at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Frandell Johnson of Greenbush; son and daughter-in-law, John and Pamela of Mankato; a grandson; and sister, Lorraine Krueger of Deerwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Frank, on Jan. 11, 1997.
She was born Jan. 20, 1919, in New Ulm to Edwin and Frieda (Hackbarth) Laudenschlager. She married Frank Riederer on Jan. 13, 1941 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in New Ulm. She worked at 3M in New Ulm from 1965 to 1982.
She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, active in the choir and Ladies Aid, and a member of the former D.M.L.C. Auxiliary in New Ulm.

Betty Schwiderski, 76, of Hector, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 1 p.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church in Hector, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by her husband Edward Schwiderski, of Hector, and children, Charles Schwiderski of Orland Park, Ill., Robert Schwiderski of Minnetonka, Mary Baumgarten of Buffalo Lake, Mark Schwiderski of Benson, Richard Schwiderski of San Fransico, Calif., Karen Zahnow, of Gary, S.D., Sara Nielson of Willmar, Tom Schwiderski of Los Angeles, James Schwiderski of Hutchinson; brother William Bregel of Granada Hills, Calif., and by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Roller and infant son William.
She was born on April 8, 1925 in Bird Island, to Benedict and Helen (Kirkendahl) Bregel. She married Edward Schwiderski on Nov. 3, 1945 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island. The couple lived in Hector and she worked at the post office.

Nellie V. Anderson, 93, of Redwood Falls, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at the Redwood Area Hospital.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001 at the United Methodist Church, Redwood Falls with burial in the Redwood Falls cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home, Redwood Falls and Saturday, one hour prior to services.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur J. and Carol Anderson of Redwood Falls; a son-in-law and daughter, Lyle and Joyce Witte of Morton; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren; a brother, Francis Jones and wife Gladys of Springfield; a sister-in-law, Leona Jones Arnett of Redwood Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Alvin "Swede" Anderson, she was preceded in death by brothers, Harold, Cecil, Lloyd, Leslie and Fred (Ted) Jones.
She was born on Dec. 3, 1907 in Hartley, Iowa, to Frank and Emma (Rogers) Jones. She moved with her family to Minnesota as a small child, moving to Beaver Falls Township. She attended Beaver Falls country and Morton schools. She moved with her family south of Redwood Falls. She worked for Montgomery Ward for two years and then worked at Engh's Bakery. On Dec. 11, 1930 she married Alvin "Swede" Anderson in Redwood Falls. She helped in the lunch wagon for Rene and Terry Marguth. They lived in Redwood Falls and then moved to Morton for a year. They moved to Wabasso where "Swede" worked for Zieske's Lumber Co. They returned to Redwood Falls in 1943 living on a farm east of town, farming until 1972, when they moved into Redwood Falls. Swede died on May 3, 1987. She resided at Wood Dale Nursing Home for a year before moving to Johnson Park Place when it opened in April 1995. In July 2000 she entered Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center until September 2000, when she moved to Wood Dale Nursing Home. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Mary Circle and was a volunteer in the kitchen at church. She was a member of the Redwood Falls Hospital Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary and was a culinary exhibit judge at the Redwood County Fair for years.

Edna V. Krueger, 91, of Springfield, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Springfield with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. today and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield and at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by a son, James and wife Ellen of Eugene Ore.; daughters, Carol Carlson of Springfield and Mary Ellen Krueger Of Willmar; four grandsons and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Albert in 1982; a son-in-law, James Carlson; a sister Elsie; and two brothers, Elmer and Harold.
He was born to Henry and Ross (Nehls) Kempke on Oct. 21, 1909 in Welcome. She graduated from Welcome High School in 1928. She attended Mounds Midway School of Nursing in St. Paul, graduating in 1931. After working briefly in St. Paul, she worked at St. John's Hospital in Springfield in 1934. On Sept. 8, 1936, she married Albert Krueger in Stewart. She joined the staff at Springfield Community Hospital where she worked until retirement. She later worked as a part time nurse at St. John's Lutheran Home. She was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Mary Martha Circle, a social member of the Springfield Golf Club and several bridge clubs.

Riley M. Stancer, 3 months and 11 days old, of Redwood Falls, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Redwood Falls with burial in Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, and Saturday at the church, one hour prior to services.
She is survived by her parents, Shawn Stancer and April Hobbs of Coon Rapids, formerly of Redwood Falls; maternal grandparents Jim and Gloria Hobbs; paternal grandparents, Jeff and Betty Stancer; aunts and uncles Jeanne and Perry Lee, Jackie Hobbs, Donny Hobbs, Travis Stancer and Nathan Stancer; great grandparents, and many other relatives and friends.
She was born March 22, 2001 in Fridley to Shawn Stancer and April Hobbs.

Fannie Werner, 89, of Lamberton, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Springfield Medical Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lamberton United Methodist Church with burial in Lamberton Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, Lamberton and at the church Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her husband Wesley of Lamberton; a son, Kenneth and Pat of Siloam Springs, Ark.; a daughter, Bernadine and Ralph Samletzka of Pine City; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; brothers, Ben Junker, Rudolph and Dorothy Junker, and Uko and Clara, all of Mountain Lake; and one sister, Aliede Evers of Mountain Lake.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Hank and Gustav Junker and sisters, Henrietta Junker, Lizzie Klienow and Carrie Lingbeck.
She was born Nov. 3, 1911 to Henry and Fenna (Garrels) Junker in Mountain Lake. She attended county school in Selma Township, Cottonwood County. She worked at various jobs in the area. On June 3, 1931, she married Wesley Werner in Germantown Township. They lived and farmed in Germantown Township until moving into Lamberton in 1993.

Lucille Avis, 90, of Hutchinson, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Bums Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson.
Services were held Friday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Hutchinson with burial in Oakland Cemetery. Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Lucille is survived by her daughter, Julie Crowley of Fridley; a sister-in-law, Doris Avis of Kerrville, Texas; one niece and one nephew, and many friends.
Lucille is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Art Avis i;n December 1995; and a sister, Lorraine Rayson.
Lucille Edith (Rayson) Avis was born June 13, 1911, in Thief River Falls to Louis and Tena (Knudson) Rayson. She graduated from Thief River Falls Public High School in 1929. She studied at the University of Minnesota in the Home Economics Department from 1930 to 1932, at the Moorhead State College from 1932 to 1933, and in 1934-1935, she attended the Superior State Teacher's College in Superior, Wis., as an English major, where she received her teaching certificate.
She married Arthur Avis on Sept. 16, 1936, in Minneapolis. Lucille and Art lived in Milltown, Phillips, Marshfield, and Durand, Wis., and St. Peter, before making their home in Hutchinson, in 1952,
Lucille was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Hutchinson. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Crow River Country Club. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop.
She became a resident of Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson on May 30, 2001.
