Bertwood Pendleton, 58, of Redwood Falls, died on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, in Maple Grove.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the Gill Brothers West Metro Chapel in New Hope. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, and one hour prior to services at the chapel Wednesday.
Local services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug.16, at St. Conelia's Episcopal Church, Lower Sioux Indian Community, Morton, with burial with military honors at the church cemetery. Local visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Guild Hall, with a prayer service at 4 p.m.
Nelson Martin Funeral Service of redwood Falls is handling local arrangements.

Ollie L. Radloff, 92, of New Ulm, formerly of Essig, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Church of Christ in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, and then for one hour prior to time of service at the church on Tuesday.
Ollie is survived by a daughter, Karen Stolte, and her husband Bill, of New Ulm; a son, Verne Radloff, and his wife, Sandra, of Essig; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Fred Feldsien, of Anoka; a brother-in-law, Wesley Youngblom, of Litchfield; and by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elmer G. Radloff, on Nov. 23, 1990; a great grandson, Matthew Neisen; brothers and sisters-in-law Henry and Zelda Feldsien, Paul and Marion Feldsien, Ted and Mary Feldsien, Frank and Viola Feldsien; a sister Clara Youngblom; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law George and Leona Zarn; and a sister-in-law Vera Feldsien.
Ollie was born on Jan. 24, 1909 in Verdi, Minn. to Henry and Bertha (Schmahl) Feldsien. She attended country school in Milford Township, Brown County. On May 16, 1935 she married Elmer G. Radloff at the Friedens Church in Essig. After marriage they farmed the Radloff family farm in Milford Township, Brown County. In 1962 they moved to a house in Essig but they continued to work on the farm until retirement in 1972. She had been a part-time Postmaster in Essig for eight years after retiring from the farm. For years she was the organist for both the Freidens Church and the St. Pauls Lutheran Church which were both in Essig. She was currently a member of the United Church of Christ in New Ulm and had served on the Ladies Aid at church. In 1990 she moved to the Sunset Apartments in New Ulm and lived there until May 5, 1996 when she became a resident of the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. She had been very active in her church all of her active life.

Leslie C. Dirks died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001 at his home in Torrance, Calif.
Services will be Aug. 18 in Lexington, Mass.
He is survived by his wife, Janet, at home; sons, Anthony and wife Anne of Condon, Ore., and Jason and wife Beth of Massachusetts; a daughter, Elizabeth, and husband Michael Fauerbach of New York City; five grandchildren; and one sister, Kathryn (Mrs. Ralph) Kent of Gibbon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Eleanor and his parents, Emerald and Gay Dirks of New Ulm.
After graduating from New Ulm High School he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. and then New College at Oxford University in England as a Rhodes Scholar. Upon completion of his education in England, he returned to the United States and taught physics for one year at the Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. before entering government service with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
He began his career in 1961 as a physical scientist and served as founder and first director of the Office of Development and Engineering. He later served as Deputy Director for Science and Technology, retiring in 1982 and entering private industry.
During his career he was recognized by government and industry as a leader in his field of technology, receiving many awards. In 1979 he was honored by President Carter in the Oval Office where we was awarded the National Security Medal, which was established by President Truman in 1953 to be awarded for exemplary scientific accomplishments in leadership and creativity of highest importance to national security. There had been 23 other recipients before him.
In 1991, an addition to an existing government building was dedicated to him and one of his colleagues, Carl Duckett. This addition is now known as the Duckett-Dirks Wing. In 1987 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the CIA, he received another honor, the Trailblazer award, given by the CIA to 50 officers from the earliest days of the agency to the present, who by their actions, example and innovations and initiative have taken the CIA in new directions.

Alice F. Guthrie, 88, of Port Townsend, Wash., died Aug. 6, 2001.
Services will be 10 a.m. at Saint Isabella's Catholic Church in San Rafael, Calif. with burial in Mount Tamalpias Cemetery.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James F. and Carol B. Guthrie, her granddaughters Brita A. and Kirsten E. Guthrie, her nephew Gregg Thiede and her niece Jeannie Thiede.
She was preceded in death by her husband John E. Guthrie and her son Robert M. Guthrie.
She was born in Searles on Nov. 2, 1912 to Fred and Emma (Groebner) Thiede. She graduated from college with a teaching degree and taught in Springfield. During WWII she worked as a secretary at Onan's in Minneapolis. After the war, she traveled to Japan to assist with their reconstruction where she met John Guthrie and they married in Fort Bragg, N.C. on Oct. 21, 1949. They located in the San Francisco Bay area, settling in San Rafael, Calif. She worked as a library clerk at Terra Linda High School and upon retirement, she spent thousands of hours as a volunteer at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in San Rafael.

Thomas J. Neumann, 48, of Cresent City, Calif., and formerly of New Ulm died Sunday, August 5, 2001 at his home in Cresent City.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New
Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-10 AM on Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral
Home in New Ulm. There will be a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
Thomas is survived by his parents, Harvey and Mary Neumann of New Ulm; his sisters, Margy Manderfeld of New Ulm and Kathy Neumann of Minneapolis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob Neumann of New Ulm, Jim and Mary Ellen Neumann of Scottsdale, Ariz., Dr. Bruce and Beth Neumann of Fairmont, Brad and Cathy Neumann of Bloomington, Brian Neumann of New Ulm, and John and Julie Neumann of Fredricksburg, Va., and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and maternal grandparents.
Thomas was born Sept. 12, 1952 in New Ulm to Harvey and Mary Neumann. He graduated in New Ulm in 1970. He worked as a hardwood floor refinisher for many years.

Bertwood N. 'Bert' Pendleton, 58, of Redwood Falls, died of a massive heart attack early Saturday morning in Maple Grove.
Services are 11 a.m.. Thursday at St. Cornelia's Episcopal Church, Lower Sioux Community, Morton with burial with military honors at St. Cornelia's Church Cemetery, Morton.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Guild Hall, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. and at the hall Thursday morning from 8:30 until service time. Nelson-Martin Funeral Service of Redwood Falls is handling local arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Redwood Falls; sons, Bertwood of the Redwood Falls area and Dale of Wisconsin; a brother, Dennis of Morton; stepchildren, Catherine (Gary) Henkels and Donald Finlayson all of the Minneapolis area; nephew and nieces, an aunt, uncles and many cousins.
Contributions may be made to the donors choice.
He was born Oct. 21, 1942 at Redwood FaIls to Bertwood F. and Gladys (Bear) Pendleton. At the age of 14, he moved to Minneapolis where he attended a vocational high school and later the University of Minnesota. He served his country in the Vietnam war. After his discharge he returned to Minneapolis and was a deputy sheriff for Hennepin County for 28 years, retiring in the mid '90s. They have been residents of Redwood Falls for the past four years. He was a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club of Minnesota, #4; the Zurah Temple Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and Wayzata Lodge #205.

Gilbert Schmid, 94, of Comfrey, died Aug. 13, 2001 at St. John's Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Comfrey with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Chapel, Comfrey. A parish prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Comfrey; daughters, Martha and Wendell Fredin of Comfrey, Dorothy and Tom Maloney of Edina, Marianne and Stanley Schotzko of Comfrey; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; and brothers, John R. and wife Dorothy of Springfield and Oliver and special friend Dottie Dunker of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard; sisters, Lorraine Altermatt, Zerelda Shultz, Carolyne Gramentz; son-in-law Norbert Suess and a grandchild in infancy.
He was born on June 3. 1907 in Springfield to John R. and Pauline (Fecker) Schmid. He grew up in Springfield and attended St. Raphael's Grade School and Springfield High School. He attended the University of Minnesota Agricultural School for three years. He worked for the telephone company for nine years before he started forming in 1934. He operated his popcorn wagon that was seen on the corner by the bank for many years and ran a miniature golf course. He married Helen Stover Aug. 28, 1934 in Springfield. The couple farmed near Comfrey until 1969 and later moved into Comfrey in 1981. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Comfrey and a charter member of St. Raphael's Knights of Columbus, He was also a former member of the Farm Bureau.
Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Catholic Church, St. John Lutheran Home Chapel Fund and the American Cancer Society.

Clara Davis, 90, of Redwood Falls, formerly of Wabasso, died on April 21, 2001, at Wood Dale Nursing Home, Redwood Falls.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, with burial in Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Gary Keckeisen, 44, of Las Vegas, Nevada died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001 in Las Vegas, Nev.
A private family service will be held at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery in New Ulm.
He is survived by his father, Edward "Pat" Keckeisen and his wife, Lois of Glenwood; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Todd Zemke of Glenwood; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Cheryl Keckeisen of Neenah, Wis., and Thomas and Mary Jo Keckeisen of Hibbing. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lavonne Keckeisen; and his twin brother, John Keckeisen.
Gary was born on Nov. 13, 1956 in Mankato to Edward "Pat" and Lavonne (Larson) Keckeisen. He attended grade schools in Prior Lake, Hibbing, St. Cloud and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1975. He then attended the University of Minnesota in Duluth for two years and then attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis for one year. After college he moved to Las Vegas, Nev. and worked at various jobs.
The family prefers memorials be given to the Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood, Minn.

Elvin M. Lofgren, 85, of St. James, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001 at Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital, Mankato.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church, St. James with burial in Calvary Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-10 a.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James. A Christian Mother's Rosary will be held at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, LouAnn, St. James; five daughters, Pam and husband Tom Schmillan of Chaska, Diane and her husband Tom Robinson of Victoria, Barb and her husband Larry Twedt of Frost, Jane and her husband Mike Brandt of St. James; a sister, Muriel Burgin, Milford, Iowa; a brother, Clifford and his wife Renee of Gainesville, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Lavon Morgan of St. James and Millie of Mobile Ala.; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Olaf and Lillie; three brothers, Ronald, Vernon and Emery; a sister, Brenda Peterson; and a grandson Thomas Brandts.
He was born on March 12, 1916 to Olaf and Lillie (Swanson) Lofgren at his family farm in rural St. James. He married LouAnn Spitzner May 6, 1944 at the St. James Catholic Church. He farmed the homestead with his brother, Vernon until his retirement. He lived there his entire life. He was active in the Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club in St. James.

Richard Pribyl, 73, of North Fort Meyers, Fla., died on Sunday, Aug. 12. 2001 in Fort Meyers.
Services and burial were Wednesday at Cape Coral, Fla.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; sons, Charles of Albuquerque, N.M. and Jeffrey of Mankato; daughters, Stephanie of Waukesha, Wis., Deborah of New Ulm and Janet Von Ruden of Pratt; brother, Bernard of Medford; sisters, Dorothy Kubicek, Helen Chesney and Rose Marie Green, all of Owatonna; and four grandchildren.
He was born in Owatonna and moved to Florida 11 years ago.

Angeline Timm, 91, of Ridgeway on German in New Ulm died Tuesday, August 14, 2001 at the St. John's Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Friday at the Cathedral and there will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Angeline is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Joan Eibner of Rosemount, and William and Carol Eibner of Medford, Ore.; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and a sister, Eileen Simpson of Huntington Beach, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Fremont Eibner in 1940, August Wild in 1955, and Charles Timm in 1989; a son Thomas J. Eibner in 1981; and by brothers, Matthew, Arnim, Cyril and Edward Mans.
Angeline was born June 20, 1910 in Nicollet County to John and Magdalina (Michaels) Mans. She attended the Good Council Academy in Mankato and graduated in 1929. After graduating she worked at the Beehive Clothing Store in New Ulm. She married Fremont Eibner on Oct. 16, 1933 at the St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nicollet. After marriage they lived in New Ulm. She married August Wild on July 24, 1944 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. Adeline then married Charles Timm on October 11, 1968 at the St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield.
While living in Springfield she worked at the Peichel's Supermarket until moving to New Ulm. She moved to Real Life Cooperative in New Ulm in 1998 and then to Ridgeway on German in April, 2001. She had been a resident of the St. John's Lutheran Home in Springfield for the past two weeks. Angeline enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing cards, and crocheting. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, Christian Mothers and a past member of the Catholic Daughters.

Richard L. Anderson, 73, of Walnut Grove died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at the age of 73 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., after a short illness.
Services will be on Friday, Aug. 17, at 5:30 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the Jacobson Funeral Home in Walnut Grove.
He is survived by brothers; Ted and wife Laura of Walnut Grove, Don and wife Helen of Spencer, Iowa, Adrell (Sam) and wife Janet of Tracy, and Ron and wife Carol of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 22 nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Richard was born in Ann Township in Cottonwood County on May 23, 1928, to Harry T. and Rowena M. (Knudson) Anderson on the family farm. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove. He attended country school through the eighth grade at District 43 and graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1946. He entered the U.S. Army in 1950 and worked on the family farm after his discharge. He opened a portable feed mill for a local doctor. He moved to Walnut Grove after his parents died, where he drove a school bus and worked for several farmers. He retired in 1990.
He was a lifetime member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and served as a deacon. He was a member of Westbrook VFW Post 5098 and American Legion Post 267 in Walnut Grove.

Eleanora E. Gramentz, 79, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Faith United Methodist Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, with a VFW Auxiliary service at 7 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by her children; Maryann Gramentz, Patsyann Gramentz, Diane and husband Jeff Kosbab, Ervin Gramentz, Jr., all of Sleepy Eye; sister, Bertha Kuelbs of Judson; a brother, Albert Franke of Sleepy Eye; sisters-in-law, Norma Franke of New Ulm, and Leona Franke of Watkins; several nieces, nephews, cousins, a special friend, Violet Barness of Mankato, and special children, Jeana Domeier, Jamie Vanoverbeck, Jason Rowe, Britanny Windschitl, Jared Spaeth, Ryan, Jason and Nicole Maher, Melinda Korte, Ervin ross, Kelly Schwister, and Michael Galvin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1986; son, Steven; daughter, Sandra; sisters, Merty Steiner; Minnie Hager, Elaine Franke; brothers, Leonard, Fred and Arthur.
She was born on Aug. 31, 1921 in Mulligan Township, Brown County, to Albert and Anna (Schmitz) Franke. She attended school in Sleepy Eye. After her schooling she worked as a waitress at Annie Schmitz Cafe in Sleepy Eye. She married Erwin Gramentz April 24, 1948 in Springfield. The couple made their home in Sleepy Eye where Eleanora worked at the Orchid inn, City Cafe, Tony Downs and Del Monte. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye, Ladies Circle and VFW Auxiliary.

Cheryl Grussing, 51, of Cedar Mills Township, died Tuesday, August 14, 2001, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, with burial in Clear Lake Severance Cemetery in Severance Township in Sibley County.
Visitiation is from 5-8 p.m. today at the Dobrantz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson and one hour prior to the church service.
She is survived by her husband, Waldemar Grussing of Hutchinson, her daughter, Kimberly Grussing of Hutchinson, a sister Beverely Woods and husband Gregory of Gibbon, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ione Dahlen, two children in infancy and her brother, Dwayne Dahlen.
She was born May 11, 1950 in Sleepy Eye to Thomas and Ione (Ehlers) Dahlen. She was baptized at Clear Lake Severance Church in Clear Lake Township and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop. She graduated from Winthrop High School in 1968. She married Waldemar Grussing on Aug. 8, 1980 at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. They made their home on a farm near Hutchinson. Cheryl was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, where she helped in the nursery.
