Douglas K. Marks, 90, of Minneapolis, died on Monday, Aug. 13, 2001.
A memorial service was held at the Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church, Minneapolis, on Monday. Burial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Medford United Methodist Church in Medford, Wis.
He is survived by children George (Florence), Ellen (Glenn Niemuth), Jane (Jim Fastle) and Steve (Faith); and 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth.
He was born Aug 18, 1910. in Ellsworth, Maine, to George and Lillie Marks. He graduated from Classical High School, Worcester, Mass., Allegheny College, Meadville, Pa. (1933), and Garrett Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity. He was licensed to preach in December 1929, Worcester, Mass. He was ordained a deacon in June 1938, and an elder in June 1939. He served Methodist and United Methodist churches in Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, including New Ulm, and New Mexico.
He led Methodist Youth Fellowship, Boy Scouts, while in Wisconsin and helped establish and lead many youth trail camps in the Minnesota conference of UMC.
After retiring from Joyce United Methodist Church in 1976, he continued working with youth at McCurdy Mission School, Espanola, N.M. He was an activist in community and church affairs. During World War II he served as an Air Raid Warden in South Superior, Wis. He established Joyce Food Shelf in Minneapolis and was chair of the Minneapolis Council of Churches Social Concerns. He was president of the New Ulm Council of Churches and chair of the Department of Indian Work for the Minnesota Council. He served on the Minnesota United Methodist Board of Missions. He was a member of the Lake Harriet Masonic Lodge 277 and had served as Grand Prelate of Knights Templar. He was a Past Patron of the Eastern Star and was Past Master of Valley Lodge in Expanola, N.M.
Memorials may be sent to the Ruth and Douglas Marks Memorial Fund, Joyce Nursery School, Joyce United Methodist Church, 1219 W. 31st St., Minneapolis, MN 55408.

Josie Arndtson, 87, of Lamberton, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at Valley View Manor, Lamberton.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Highwater Lutheran Church, Lamberton with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, Lamberton and at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by sons, Merle and wife Eloise of Kettle River, Ove Jr. and wife Marlyn of Seattle, Wash., Ken and wife Linda of Lamberton; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ove in 1977; son, Loren in 1953; and two brothers.
She was born March 18, 1914, to Marcus and Julia (Flatgard) Kragtorp in Belmont Township near Lakefield. She attended country school. She married Ove Arndtson on March 2, 1933, in Lakefield. They lived on a farm south of Windom. In March of 1941 the couple moved to Porter and farmed in the area for eight years before moving to a farm south of Lamberton, She moved into the Valley View Apartments in the late 1980s and to Valley View Manor in 1994. She was a 4-H leader, an officer of the Ladies Aid and served on the county welfare board.

Norbert Burginger, 76, of Faribault, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at his home.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Hope United Methodist, Faribault with burial in Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Faribault.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, and Thursday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Faribault; children and their spouses, Barbara and John Burford of Windsor, Colo., Brenda and Dwight Gutsche of Ft. Collins, Colo., Bevelyn Witt of Faribault and Brad Burginger of Faribault; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Wilfred of Lamberton, Erwin and wife Ora of Story City, Iowa and Roman and wife Betty of Santa Maria, Calif.; one brother-in-law, Darold and wife and Ellner Siebert of Clements; nieces; nephews; and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Valoris Burginger; and a nephew, Larry Siebert.
He was born May 29, 1925, to Ernest and Emma (Sauer) Burginger at Sanborn. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Dorothy Siebert on Sept. 18, 1947 in Springfield. He was a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Faribault.

Dick Hage, 76, formerly of Madelia, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, in Odessa, Texas.
A memorial service is 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Madelia with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Madelia.
The Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia, is handling local arrangements.
He is survived by sons John and wife Sheryl of Montrose, Colo., George of Arvada, Colo., and Robert of Andrews, Texas; daughter, Susan Fletcher and husband Paul of Littleton, Colo.; three grandchildren; and sister Jane Rundquist of Rapid City, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife in June,1994.
He was born March 15, 1925, to Carl and Gladys (Brewer) Hage in Madelia. He graduated from Madelia High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II mainly in the South Pacific. He married Betty Lou Cowen on March 20, 1954 in Madelia. They lived in Madelia until 1959 when they moved to St. James and then returned to Madelia in 1965. He operated the Hage Lumber Company in Madelia. They moved to Montrose, Colo. in 1982. He had been residing in Odessa, Texas since January 2000. He was a member of the Madelia Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, the Masonic Lodge and had been active in the Boy Scouts.

Rev. Paul Gorman, 89, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Divine Providence Community Home, Sleepy Eye.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Divine Providence Community Home Chapel, Sleepy Eye with burial in St. Timothy's Cemetery, Maple Lake at 1 p.m. Friday.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Divine Providence Community Home Chapel, Sleepy Eye.
Arrangements are handled by Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.
He is survived by sisters, Viola McCue of Winnebago; Beatrice Grimes of St. Cloud; nieces, Ann Marie Grimes of Willmar, Mary and husband George Wechman of Mankato, Elizabeth Hartle of Seattle, Wash.; great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Clem McCue and Harold Grimes.
He was born Dec. 10, 1911, to James J. and Theresa (Blume) Gorman in Maple Lake. He attended Nazareth Hall and St. Paul Seminary. He was ordained a Catholic priest at the St. Paul Cathedral on June 1, 1949. During his 61 years as a priest, he served parishes at Lake Benton, Montevideo and Benson. After retiring, he lived with the Franciscans of Marystown at Kenosha, Wis., for a year and served as editor of the magazine "Immaculata." He had many articles published and is the author of the book, "Life with Joseph." During his retirement, he lived in Maple Lake helping out in surrounding parishes, and then moved to his sister's farm home near Winnebago.
Memorials preferred to the New Ulm Diocese Seminary Fund.

Hartman Mueller, 70, died Jan. 6, 2001, in Mission, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Moltke Township, rural Gibbon.
Hartman is survived by his wife, Kathy Mueller of Mission, Texas; sons, Alan and wife Elisabeth Mueller of Vienna, Austria, and Robert and wife Kristin Mueller of Niceville, Fla.; a daughter, Carrie and husband Matthew Thiebaud of Acton, Calif.; and six grandchildren. Hartman was married to his first wife, Karen E. Renneke in 1957. She preceded him in death in 1989. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Elsia Weerts; and brothers, Arthur, Andrew and Arnold Mueller.
He was born in Springfield on July 11, 1930 to Hartman Edmund Immanuel and Augusta (Ahrendt) Mueller. He moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1990 from Redwood Falls. He had also lived in rural Hector/Fairfax and Springfield.
He was a farmer until 1970 and then a sale representative for Hydrotex, a specialized lubricant company from 1970 to 1989.

Edward Rosnau, 83 of Winthrop, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Winthrop with burial in Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Friday and 7:30-11 a.m., Saturday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop; and Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the time of services.
He is survived by son, Reuben Rosnau and his wife, Shirley of Cook; daughter, Beverly "Bev" Nelson and her husband, Ron of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Howard and his wife, Lois of Winthrop; sisters, Adeline Laabs of Winthrop and Clarrice Rosnau of Winthrop; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel and sister, Edna Peterson.
He was born June 5, 1918, in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, to William and Ella (King) Rosnau. He attended country school. He married Hazel N. Anderson on March 8, 1944, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Winthrop. The couple retired in the mid '80s and continued living on their farm site until they moved into Winthrop in the late '80s. They entered Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson. She died Nov. 8, 2000. He entered the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center on Jan. 23, 2001. He was a member of the Evangelical Church in Winthrop where he served on the deacon board and as financial secretary, trustee, and usher.

Alida Kittelson, 71, of Mankato died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.
Private services will be held at a later date with burial in Lamberton City Cemetery.
Mankato Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by sisters, Lenore Trost and her husband Matt and Esther Pabst, all of Sleepy Eye; nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
She was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Ann Township, Cottonwood County, to Charles and Lena (Nerem) Kittelson. She did factory work.

Wayne Augustin, 55, of Comfrey, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at his home.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Comfrey with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. toay and 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, Comfrey. A parish prayer service is 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Judy of Comfrey; son, Keith and wife Kathy of Stewartville; daughter, Wendy and husband Tom Helget of Byron; five grandchildren; brother, Kevin and wife Phyllis of Sleepy Eye; and sister, Brenda and husband Rod Newman of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald in May 2000.
He was born May 21, 1946, in Sleepy Eye to Donald and Sylvia (Helget) Augustin. He attended grade school at Japanese Martyrs School in Leavenworth. He graduated from Comfrey High School in 1964. He belonged to St. Paul's Catholic Church in Comfrey and the Land 0' Lakes GTO Club. He entered the Army National Guard following high school, serving at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He married Judy Zwaschka on April 8, 1967, in Comfrey. They lived in Leavenworth for six years before moving to Comfrey. He worked part time at Del Monte, Tri County Cooperative in Darfur, Walt's Skelly Station in Comfrey and Feeken Gate Company. He drove truck for Marlo Arnsdorf, worked at STS Construction, and drove truck for Randy Halter Trucking, all while farming. In 1999, he bought his own semi truck, working through Halter Trucking.

Robert Bertrand, 68, of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Sleepy Eye Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a K.C. rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Marion of Sleepy Eye; children, Debbie and husband Trixie Heiderscheidt of Sleepy Eye, Denise and husband Jim Tauer of Plymouth, Bob Jr. and wife Sherri Woelfel of Redwood Falls and Bill of Rochester; eight grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law Janet and Fred Tauer of Sleepy Eye, Bernice and Jerome Schneider of White Bearr Lake and Sandy and Dave Runing of White Bear Lake; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marlyn and Judy Sellner of New Ulm and Carol and David Drown of Marshall; mother, Anna of Sleepy Eye; mother-in-law, Frieda Sellner of Sleepy Eye; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William H. Bertrand, father-in-law, Roman P. Sellner and many aunts and uncles.
He was born on Feb. 16, 1933, in New Ulm to William H. and Anna (Hoppe) Bertrand. He attended country school and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye in 1951. He married Marion Sellner on Jan. 19, 1953, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They lived in Sleepy Eye. He worked at Steinke Seidl Lumber, was a butter maker at Sleepy Eye Farmers Creamery, manager of Siegel Creamery and was chief engineer at the Sleepy Eye Power Plant until he retired in 1995. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Sleepy Eye Fraternal Order of Eagles serving as past Worthy President and currently as secretary.

Margaret Elizabeth Olson, 86, of Butternut Township, rural Lake Crystal, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Crystal, with burial in Lake Crystal Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Lake Crystal Mortuary is handling arrangements.
She is survived by daughter, Ruth Ann Capasso and her husband, Robert, of Mankato; son, Donald Olson and his wife, Eunice, of New Ulm; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Burton Thomas and his wife, Myrna, of Lake Crystal; sisters, Elaine Hood and her husband, Ralph, of Lake Crystal, and Violet Louris of Edina; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Anton in 1999; and three brothers.
She was born April 23, 1915, in Cambria, to Thomas E. and Margaret A. (Roberts) Thomas. She attended country school in the Cambria area. She married Anton Olson on Sept. 20,1933, in St. Paul. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband with their farm. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lake Crystal.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to donor's choice.

Kathleen Nielsen, 57, of Madelia, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001 in an auto accident near Janesville.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Madelia.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m.today at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia, with a rosary at 5 p.m. and prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and 9-10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne; mother, Pauline Duffy of Madelia; son Brad of Madelia; daughter, Shannon Hirsch and husband Scott of Yankton, S.D.; grandchildren, Ashley Nielsen and Taylor Hirsch; sister, Eileen Kehrwald and husband Mike of Cadiz, Ky.; brother, James Duffy and wife Marsha of Chatfield; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She was born Oct. 8, 1943, to Russell and Pauline (Ohmes) at St. James. She grew up in Madelia and graduated from Madelia High School in 1961. She took nurse's training at St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato and graduated as a R.N. She married Wayne Nielsen on Sept. 26, 1964, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Madelia. They lived in Madelia. She worked in nursing at the Madelia Community Hospital, the Lutheran Retirement Home in Truman and at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia for many years. She later worked at the Madelia Veterinary Clinic. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and CCW in Madelia.

Donald Quiring, 74, of Lamberton died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Lamberton.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Highwater Lutheran Church, Lamberton with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, Lamberton and Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Arliss of Lamberton; sons, Bradley and wife Crystal of Lamberton, Steven and wife Mila of New Ulm, Terry and wife Kim of Storden; daughter, Vicki of New Ulm; four grandchildren; sister, Lila Ness; brother-in-law, Armin Kastner; sisters-in-law, Shirley and Loretta and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Sarah; brothers, Elton, Lawrence and Walter Quiring; and sisters, Leona Mattison, Vivian Quiring, Lilace Quiring and Berneice Kastner.
He was born June 19, 1927, to Peter and Mena (Ellingson) Quiring in Highwater Township. He attended country school. He joined the U.S. Army Nov. 29, 1950 and was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. After being wounded, he was sent to the Army Hospital in Camp Carson, Colo. He farmed with his brother, Elton (Bobby) and later with his son, Terry, until his retirement. He married Arliss Graff on March 22, 1954. They lived and farmed in Highwater Township. He served for many years on the Highwater Township board as supervisor. He also held various church council positions for many years. He was an active member of the Lamberton American Legion and served as Adjutant, Sergeant-at-Arms and Commander.

Brad Bielen, 50, of Rudioso, N.M., formerly of Springfield, died in June 2001 in Nevada.
Services are 7 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Springfield, with burial at a later date in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 6-7 p.m. Monday at the church.
He is survived by his parents, Burt and Gloria of Queen Creek, Ariz.; maternal grandmother, Ethel Elrichs of El Dorado, Kan.; special friend, Rita Rigney of Mankato; siblings, Sandy and husband Gary Balbach of Spicer, Dawn and husband Gary Van Dyke of Mankato, Cheryl and husband Gene Haas of Springfield, Craig and wife Lori Bielen of Springfield, Michelle Bielen and finace Gregg Stage of Springfield, Kim and husband Pat Lang of Springfield; 14 nieces and nephews; and aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Art and Johanna Bielen; maternal grandfather, Harry Elrichs; nephew, Rick Balbach and an uncle, Charles Elrichs.
He was born and raised in Springfield, graduating from Springfield High School in 1968. He went on to attend Mankato State College and Iowa State College. He lived in Mankato and Mapleton for 12 years before moving to New Mexico.
