David E. Swanson, 80, of Hastings, formerly of Fairfax, died on Monday, Oct. 1, 200, at Mercy Hospital, St. Paul.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Hastings.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of Hastings; sons Michael of Franklin, and Ind., Peter of Inver Grove Heights; daughter, Kathy, of Hastings; and six grandchildren.
He was a band director at Fairfax High School from 1956-1968.

John R. Zeig, 36, of Redwood Falls, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001 at Redwood Area Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Milroy, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Thursday at the church, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
He is survived by his parents, Robert and Marge Zeug of Milroy; sisters, Patty (John) Rosenhammer of Sleepy Eye, Kate (Todd) Palmer of Lino Lakes, Diane (Darren) Storkamp of Savage, and Theresa of Brookings, S.D.; brothers, Kevin of Walnut Grove, Greg (DiVenna) of Marshall, and Allan, Mike, and Jim all of Walnut Grove; eight nieces and nephews; and grandmothers, Mary Audell Zeug of Sartell and Margaret DeMeyer of Minneota.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Joseph B. Zeug and Julius DeMeyer and uncle, James G. DeMeyer.
He was born April 9,1965, in Marshall, to Robert and Margie (DeMeyer) Zeug. He attended Tracy Public Schools. He was employed on farms for several years until his health limited his ability. He lived at Unity House in Worthington, Gleasoners in Bird Island, Patricia Duffy Apts in Marshall and Lincoln House in Redwood Falls.

Marie Guggisberg, 84 of Fairfax, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at the Fairfax Community Home.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax with burial in the church cemetery in Cairo Twp., Renville Co.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax and will continue Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. at the church. There will be a VFW Ladies' Auxiliary service at 6 p.m., a rosary service at 6:30 p.m., and parish prayer service at 7 p.m. on Friday night at the church. The Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax is handling the arrangements.
Marie is survived by her sons, Tom Guggisberg and his wife, Kay of Hill City, S.D., Steve Guggisberg and his wife, Evelyn of Starbuck, Jack Guggisberg and his wife, Sheri of Burnsville, Mark Guggisberg and his wife, Susan of Hartley, Iowa, Dave Guggisberg and his special friend, Sue of Fairfax, and Jerry Guggisberg of Fairfax; daughters, Theresa Zeug and her husband, Bernie of Redwood Falls, Janice Friedrichs and her husband, Mike of Golden, Colo. Rose Hillesheim and her husband, Gary of Sleepy Eye, Ruth Beesch and her husband, Dr, Karl of Marshall, Mary Holub and her husband, Rick of New Brighton; a daughter-in-law, Karen Guggisberg of Fairfax; 43 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister. Cecilia Taughtes and her husband, John of Gibbon, a brother, Hilary Gitter of the Franklin Healthcare Center and his wife, Marie of Sleepy Eye; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Agnes Gitter of St. George, Alex Guggisberg and his wife, Agnes of Gibbon, Bernice Pfeffer of Fairfax, Marion Wendland of New Ulm, Sally Warner and her husband, Lloyd of Australia and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence on Oct. 16, 1981, a baby in infancy; a son, Joseph in June of 1980; three brothers, four sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Marie (Gitter) Guggisberg was born Aug. 25, 1917, in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, to Joseph and Mary (Schwab) Gitter. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed as a youth at St. George's Catholic Church. Marie married Clarence H. Guggisberg on June 18, 1940 at St. George's Catholic Church. The couple farmed in Cairo Twp., Renville Co. Clarence died on Oct. 16, 1981. Marie continued living on their farm site until she moved into Fairfax in 1993. She entered the Fairfax Community Home on Oct. 25, 1997.
Marie was a member of St, Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax, where she was active with the Catholic Aid Association and the Christian Mothers' Society, She was also a member of the Fairfax VFW Ladies' Auxiliary.

Diane (Hauth) Schroeder, 36, of St. Anthony and formerly of Springfield died on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001 at her home in St. Anthony.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial in St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery in Comfrey.
Visitation is 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
She is survived by her father, Gordon Hauth, a resident of the St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Lavonne Hauth, and Roger and Diane Hauth all of Springfield, Randy and Jennifer Hauth of Sleepy Eye, and Marvin and Junelle Hauth of Fort Dodge, Iowa; nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Eugenia Weatherly and Barb Engelkes; and her dog, Breezy.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; and mother, Marlys Hauth on July 9, 1978.
She was born Jan. 15, 1965, in Springfield to Gordon and Marlys (Briske) Hauth. She attended the Lakeview Crippled Children's School in Worthington and graduated from Worthington High School in 1983. She married Thomas Schroeder on July 27, 1991, in Sleepy Eye and they were later divorced. As a child she was selected as a Gillette Hospital Queen and toured with the St. Paul Winter Carnival Royalty. She attended and helped at Camp Courage. In June of 1995 she received the Volunteer Recognition Award at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis. Diane has lived in St. Anthony since 1991, where she did telecommunications out of her home. She was a member of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Church of Christ.

Inez M. Soupir, 84 of Wabasso, formerly of Lucan, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001 at the Redwood Area Hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wabasso.
Visitation will be 5-7:30 p.m. Friday, and one hour prior to services all at the church in Wabasso, with burial in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery. The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Inez Soupir is survived by her sister-in-law Violet Dresow and her husband John of Redwood Falls, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many friends, She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, a sister Florence Schaffran, and brothers, Floyd, Edmund, Clarence and LeRoy.
Inez Mirene Schultz was born Oct. 27, 1916 in Vail Township, Redwood County, to Herman and Olga (Stage) Schultz. She, was baptized Dec. 31, 1916 at Waterbury Church. She was confirmed on April 9, 1933 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wabasso. On May 14, 1947, she married John "Jack" Soupir, at Bethany Lutheran Church. Together the couple farmed near Lucan until retirement. On Jan. 7, 1985, her husband died. She continued to live on the farm until 1988 when she moved to Wabasso. Inez had been living at the Wabasso Health Care Center for nearly the past year. Inez has been a member of Bethany Lutheran Church for many years.

Helen M. Fromm, 54, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Monday at Cesarz, Charapata and Zinnecker Funeral Home, Waukesha, on Monday and Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to services. A parish vigil starts at 6:30 p.m. Monday with entombment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, masses are appreciated, memorials to the Cooperating Congregations of Waukesha County or to St. William Catholic Church would be appreciated.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas; sons and daughters, Thomas and wife Jenny, Timothy and wife Liz and Michelle and husband Jeff Plambeck; one granddaughter; sisters and brothers, Shirley and husband William Krohn, Bonnie and husband Wallace Bastian, Margaret and husband Tom Albrecht, Sharon Madsen, Joanne, Lois and husband Robert Schneider, Norma and husband Del Bergseth and Howard Altmann; and other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Joanne.
She was born March 1, 1947 in New Ulm to Marvin and Helen Altmann. She was a member of St. William Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Mothers.

Jacob Meyer, 88, of Vesta, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001 at the Parkview Home, Belview.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lucan with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at the church and Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Kulow Funeral and Creamation Service of Echo is in charge of arrangements.

Bernard P. Schotzko, 86, formerly of Comfrey, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001 at his home.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4343 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
He is survived by sons Stan and wife Marianne of Comfrey, Ronald and wife Patti of Alexandria; two step children, Linda and wife Randy Ahren of Baxter, John and wife Kim Sundberg of North St. Paul; a sister, Erma Snook of Clarkston, Wash.; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Ralph and Alred Schotzko.
He was born March 7, 1915 to Henry and Mayme (Lilla) Schotzko in Comfrey. He attended St. Paul Catholic Grade School and graduated from Comfrey High School in 1933.
He married Gladys Inman of Comfrey in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army as a meat inspector from May 1942 to November 1945. He married Tillie Schippel in 1966 and they lived in Brainerd. She died in 1987. He married Shirley Sundberg in 1989 and they lived in Oakdale. She died in 1999. He also worked at the Tumico plant in St. James, as a meat cutter in Comfrey and worked as a processor at the St. Peter State Hospital and Brainerd State School and hospital until retiring in 1977. He was active in the American Legion, Moose and Eagles clubs.

Hilton T. Sowell, 85, of Bloomington, died Sept. 27, 2001.
Services were held at Werness Brothers Funeral Chapel, Bloomington, with burial in Pleasant View Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by four children, Jerry (Sue) Sandee (John), Betty (Fran), Cliff (Rose), and a grandson, Aaron (Shelley); a brother Wesley and wife Anita, a sister, Ruby Seifert Meade of New Ulm, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen.

Marcella Baune, 94, of Redwood Falls, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at the Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls.
Mass of Christian burial 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Redwood Falls, with burial at St. Anne's Catholic Cemetery in Wabasso.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and 8-10:00 a.m Monday at the funeral home.
She is survived by daughters; Cryillia Lande and husband Max of Waseca, Doris Roth and husband Kelly of Sheldon, Iowa, Darlene Macht and husband Len of Lucan, Rosella Ormberg and husband Gene of Willmar, Mary Jane Scmit and husband Jerome of Redwood Falls, Betty Judd and husband Walt of Buffalo, and Janice Jones and husband Dennis of Howard Lake; sons, Vernon and wife Ruth of Coon Rapids, James and wife Myra of Marshall, Virgil of Ramsey and David of Minnetonka; sisters, Agnes Eichten of Sleepy Eye and Lorraine Schreyer of Bloomington; brother, Joseph Hagert of Mankato; half sisters, Jeanette Howcroft of Greely, Colo., and Rite Morehead of Phoeniz, Ariz.; half brothers, Donald Hagert of Decorah, Iowa, Harold Hagert and wife Marie of Remsen, Iowa, and Gerald Hagert and wife Joan of St. Paul; 32 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceeded in death by husband Raymond; daughter-in-law Jane Baune; sisters Louise, Kathryn and Lucille; twin brothers Edmund and Edward; half brother Virgil and half sister Virginia.
She was born on July 3, 1907, in Redwood County, New Avon Township, to Joseph and Catherine (Frank) Hagert. She attended country school in District 7. She married Raymond Baune at St. Anne's on April 26, 1926. They farmed in the Wanda, Sanborn and De Graff area until retirement and moved to Redwood Falls in 1969. She was a resident of Wood Dale Nursing Home for one month. She was an active member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, a member of its Mission Club and C.C.W.

Hilton T. Sewell, 85, of Bloomington, died on Sept. 27, 2001.
Services were at Werness Brothers Funeral Chapel, Bloomington, with burial in Pleasant View Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by four children, Jerry (Sue) Sandee (John), Betty (Fran), Cliff (Rose), and a grandson, Aaron (Shelley); a brother Wesley and wife Anita, a sister, Ruby Seifert Meade of New Ulm, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen.

Olga Stoltenburg, 102, a resident of Sleepy Eye Care Center and formerly of New Ulm died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation is one hour before the service Wednesday at funeral home.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Donald Olson of Seattle, Wash.; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Erica Hellmann of Laguna Woods, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Walter Hellmann in 1971; and her second husband, Alfred Stoltenburg in 1985; sisters, Aurelia Walker, Olivia Gluth, and Norma Ford; and a brother in infancy.
She was born Aug. 9, 1899, in New Ulm to Adolph and Ida (Boock) Klause. She attended New Ulm Public School and attended the Mankato Commercial College. She worked as a bookkeeper for Eagle Roller Mills in New Ulm. On Oct. 10, 1924, she married Walter Hellmann at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. They lived in Nicollet and later moved to New Ulm. She was a homemaker. Walter died in 1971. She married Alfred Stoltenburg in 1973 at St. Paul's Parsonage in New Ulm. He died in 1985. She became a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care Center in 1989. She was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Ethel Brandt, 91, a resident of Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm and formerly of Milroy died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at the Oak Hills Living Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Milroy with burial in the Redwood Falls City Cemetery in Redwood Falls.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of the service at the church on Thursday.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Phyllis Brandt of rural New Ulm, and Jim Brandt of Rapid City, S.D.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mabel Keefe of St. Paul, Lorna and Art McConnell of Livingston, Mont., Bryel Anderson of St. Paul, Ida Stoeki of Phoenix, Ariz., Harriet Anderson of St. Paul, Donna and Art Cooper of St. Paul, Alvina and Harold Olson of Aitkin; sister-in-law, Ann Clements Raddatz of Redwood Falls; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; one son in infancy; brothers, Richard Clements Sr.; brothers-in-law, Fred Keefe, Norman Anderson and Winfried Stoeki.
She was born Feb. 22, 1910, in Clements to Arthur and Louise (Ganske) Clements. She attended schools in Clements and Redwood Falls. On July 3, 1928, she married Roy Brandt in Clements. She was a homemaker and was known as the 'popcorn lady' of Milroy. She was a member of the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Milroy and the Ladies Aid at church, and the Senior Citizens in Milroy.
The family prefers memorials to the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm or to donor's choice.

Herbert P. Tauer, 95, formerly of 517 S. Jefferson in New Ulm, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at the Oak Hills Living Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home. There will be a St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann Schwab of New Ulm, Lillian Kamm of rural New Ulm, Lydia and Henry Liesenfeld of rural Sleepy Eye, Elizabeth Dittrich of New Ulm, Dorothy and James Block of Ocala, Fla.; sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Ruth Tauer of New Ulm, Kenneth and Sandra Tauer of Fort White, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Ann Tauer of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Oleta M.Tauer on March 1, 1999; one granddaughter; one grandson, Leo Liesenfeld; a sister, Rose Ganske; a brother, Conrad Tauer; and sons-in-law, Leander Schwab, Marvin Kamm and Leo Dittrich.
Herbert was born on May 26, 1906, in New Ulm to George M. and Anna (Hoffmann) Tauer. He married Oleta Dauer on Oct. 6, 1931, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. They farmed in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County and then in Sigel Township, Brown County. They retired in 1969 and moved to New Ulm. He became a resident of the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm in 1993. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and the St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council in New Ulm.
