Ernest F. Voss, 95, of Winthrop, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Bums Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Burial will be in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 5:30-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, one hour prior to the time of services at the church.
He is survived by his son, Kenneth Voss and wife, Darlene of Winthrop; daughter, Carol Stephenson and her husband, Dick of Duluth; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lillian; seven sisters and three brothers.
He was born April 21, 1906, in Bergen Township, McLeod County, to John and Sophie (Sachneckner) Voss. He graduated from Glencoe High School in 1926. He was active in sports and lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He married Lillian Wuethrich on June 15, 1930. He worked in Sterling grocery store for three years and the bulk Shell Oil Co., in Glencoe for five years. They moved to the farm in Transit Township, Sibley County. They moved into Winthrop in 1978. Lillian died on July 3, 1981. He lived in Winthrop until 1993, when he went to live at Cedar Crest assisted living in Hutchinson. He entered Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson in February 2001. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Winthrop.

Lyle Liedman, 86, of 1918 Crestview Drive, New Ulm, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, the New Ulm Medical Center.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Soldier's Rest Section of the New Ulm City Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm veterans organizations.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today and 7-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm.
He is survived by his wife, Jane of New Ulm; sons, Lowell Liedman and his wife Ingrid of New Ulm; Dr. Jay Liedman and his wife Lydia of West Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren; and nieces.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
He was born March 16,1915. to Oscar and Mamie (Gurnell) Liedman in Grand Rapids. As a child, he moved with his family to St. Paul. Following the death of both parents during his youth, he was reared by his older sisters. After graduating from Cretin High School in St. Paul, he worked at various jobs, including work as a fishing guide in Yellowstone National Park and in Death Valley, Calif. While attending the University of Minnesota, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He married Jane Halvorson on Dec. 31, 1943, at her parents' home in St. Paul. After his tour of duty, he remained in the Army Reserves and returned to the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1946. The following year, he earned his master's degree. He taught school for a year before being called back to active duty, serving in Germany and Korea. Part of his military service was to create a physical therapy program for injured and wounded military personnel. Following his honorable discharge in 1966, they moved to Ames, Iowa, where he taught school and coached football and basketball for 12 years. He was also an accomplished table tennis enthusiast, having played the Korean National Champion. They retired to Bella Vista, Ark. before moving to New Ulm in 1992. He was a member of the New Ulm Country Club.

Cora E. Ohlemann, 86, of Springfield, died Saturday, Oct. 6,, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services are 1 p.m.Thursday, at St. John Lutheran Home Chapel, Springfield. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date in California.
Visitation is noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Home Chapel in Springfield.
Arrangements are being handled by Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Karaginides; sons, Douglas and Robert; 10 grandchildren. 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna Hage and Helen Uhlenhoff; and a brother, Edward Peterson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold, and a son Donald.
She was born May 12, 1918, in Lamberton to Andrew and Clara Tollefson. She lived in Walnut Grove for many years. She married Harold H. Ohlemann in Brookings S.D., on Jan. 15, 1938. They moved to Slayton and later to Springfield. The family moved to California in the early 1950s. Harold died on April 26, 1974. She entered St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield in October 1996.

Viola C. Enter, 91, of New London, Wis., and formerly of Nicollet, died Monday, Oct, 8, 2001, at St. Joseph Residence in New London.
Services are 5 p.m. Wednesday at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London.
Visitation starts at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church in New London. A second funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet.
Visitation will be Friday from noon until the time of service at the church in Nicollet. Burial will follow in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, rural Nicollet.
Arrangements are being handled in Wisconsin by the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London and in Nicollet by the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Arthur Gerndt of New London, Mary Ann and Robert Leopold of Reedsburg, Wis.; son and daughter-in-law, Ivan and Janine Enter of Nicollet; sisters, Edith Pettengell of Trinidad, Colo., Esther Enter of Nicollet, Ardella Bruns of Mankato; sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Joel Gerlach of Wauwatosa, Wis.; sisters-in-law Myrtle Bode of Nicollet, Violet Bode of Nicollet, Glenda Bode of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Enter, in 1966; and brothers Alfred, Martin, Elden, Rueben, Raymond, and Elmer and by a sister, Gertrude Stolt. She was born Dec. 14, 1909, in Nicollet to Martin and Emilie (Dueball) Bode. She married Harvey H. Enter on Dec. 14, 1938. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Union Hospital in New Ulm. In 1972 she moved to New London, Wisc., where she worked as a Registered Nurse at the New London Family Medical Center until her retirement in 1978. She was a former member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet and a current member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London.

Frank Matter, 89, of Springfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church. There is a parish prayer service at noon and a men's rosary at 1 p.m. Friday at the church.
Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield is handling the arrangements.
He is survived sons, Frank, Jr. and wife Arlene Matter of New Ulm, Steven Matter of Springfield; daughters, Beth Heiderscheidt of Spicer, Joyce Ourada of Belview, Monica and husband Dean Stenzel of Heron Lake, Paulette and husband John Haag of Bemidji, Janel Matter of Springfield, Kathyrn and husband Jeff Baune of Vesta; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hannah; son, James; brothers, Louis, August, Joseph, Benjamin, Edward, William and Erwin; and sisters Theresa and Philomena.
He was born on March 20, 1912, to Joseph and Mary (Ramsbacher) Matter, in North Star Township. He attended country school and farmed with his family until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in March 1942. He served in the 357th Infantry Battalion, 90th Infantry Division, known as the "Tough Hombres." He was involved with the invasion of Normandy and landed on Omaha Beach. He spent some time in a hospital in England after he was wounded, but he returned to combat in the Battle of the Bulge. He finished his fourth tour of duty after contracting yellow jaundice and was discharged in 1945. He married Hannah Pfarr on Nov. 26, 1942, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. After the service, he returned to farm with his family and also worked for Art Bielen Tiling until he retired in the 1970s. He was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church and a former Knight of Columbus. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, NFO and Springfield American Legion.

Florence Messner, 94, of Winthrop, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at the Apostolic Christian Church in Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will continue 8:30 - 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the church.
She is survived by sons, Robert Messner and his wife, Margie of Port Orchard, Wash., Kenneth Messner and his wife, Margaret of Hutchinson, John Messner and his wife, Janie of Lebanon, Mo.; daughters, Dorothy Jacobson and her husband, John of Gibbon, Mary Ann Ohland and her husband, William of Kalamazoo, Mich; daughter-in-law, Julia Messner of Winthrop; 25 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; six stepgreat-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sophie Miller of Winthrop, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Messner in June 1984; son, Jim Messner; brothers, Richard, Carl and Noah Miller; and sisters, Carrie, Mae and Esther Messner and Pearl Lienemann.
She was born Dec. 5, 1906, in Pulaski, Iowa to Michael and Ida (Wutrich) Miller. She married Walter Messner on Sept. 21, 1925, in Gaylord. They farmed most of their married life. She worked at the Lafayette Good Samaritan Center for 21 years. She also did volunteer work at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center. She became a resident of the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center four years ago.

Alma Stage, 86 of rural Seaforth, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001 at Wabasso Health Care Center.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Seaforth with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and continues Saturday one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a prayer service Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the church.
Sunset Funeral Home of Wabasso is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by sons and their wives, Milan and Jeanette Stage of Vesta and Wallace and Janice Stage of Redwood Falls, 10 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; sisters, Edna Nissel of Wabasso, and Sylvia Meyers and her husband Robert of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Elvera Meyer of Vesta, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death husband Edwin on November 1994; brother George Lee; sister, Dagne Wurscher and her husband Floyd and brother-in-law, Willie Nissel. She was born Nov. 3, 1914, on the family farm in Vail Township, Redwood County, Minnesota to Sievert and Jenny (Ryg) Lee. She attended country school. She married Edwin D. Stage on June 11, 1935 in Vail Township. They farmed in Granite Rock Township until retiring in 1970. She moved to Heritage Apartments in Wabasso in 1993. She became a resident of Wabasso Health Care Center in the summer of 1997. She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Seaforth.

Harold Macho, 76, of Mankato, died on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at his home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Landkamer Johnson-Boman Funeral Home, with burial at a later date.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Doris of Mankato; sons, Mark of Grovetown, Ga., Matt of Phoenix, Ariz., and John of Whittier, Ak.; daughter, Marie Eckert of Mankato; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three sisters.
He was born on Dec. 20, 1924, in New Ulm, to Edmund and Anna (Weier) Macho. He attended school in New Ulm before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Doris Hippert on June 19, 1948. For 47 years, he worked for ADM. He retired in 1989 as a foreman He helped in the ceramic shop at Good Counsel. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church.

Luella Nelson, 76, of Glencoe and formerly of Green Isle, died on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, as a result of an automobile accident near Glencoe.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Arlington.
Visitation is 4-9 p.m. Friday at Kolden-Fenske Funeral Home in Arlington and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
She is survived by her husband, Merlin; daughter, Starla (Michael) Schilling of Arlington; sons, Jerry (Carmen) Nelson of Glencoe, Dan (Darlene) Nelson of Kasota, Steven (Heidi) Nelson of Glencoe, Ben Nelson of Waconia; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Adeline Prahl of New Ulm, Loretta Brezinski of Marshall, Mae (Selmer) Sanderson of Florenc; brothers, Dale (Beverly) Evans of Balaton, Kenneth (Connie) Evans of Coon Rapids Norman (Virginia) Evans of Russell, Harvid Evans of Russell; sister-in-law, Lorraine Evans of Russell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Emil Jr. and Delbert Evans; and sister, Mabel Vercruysse.
She was born on May 28, 1925, in Lyon County, Minnesota, to Emil Evans and the former Alma Swanson. She graduated from Lynd High School in 1943. She married Merlin Nelson on Jan. 11, 1946, in Marshall, Minnesota. They lived in Green Isle for 29 years. She ran an upholstery business from her home. They later moved to Glencoe. She was a member of the Green Isle American Legion Auxiliary 408, Arlington V.F.W Auxiliary 6031, Minnesota D.A.V Auxiliary and Green Isle Senior Citizens Go Getters. She was active in Zion Lutheran Church in Arlington and the Rebecca Circle of Ladies Aid.

Jacob Meyer, 88, of Vesta, died on Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at the Parkview Nursing Home, Belview.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lucan, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lucan, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and continues one hour prior to services at the church Saturday.
Kulow Funeral and Cremation Service of Echo is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by son, Lauren and wife Joyce of Lucan; daughters-in-law Deb Meyer of Milroy and Pat Meyer of Andover; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Grace Tellinghuisen, of Willow Lake, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 24, 2000; his parents; four sisters; two brothers; and sons, Daniel in 1999 and Kurtis in 1998.
He was born Jan. 4, 1913, at Little Rock, Iowa, to George and Mary (Lutterman) Mayer. In 1915 the family moved to Minnesota and in 1918 settled on a farm north of Lucan. Ha attended rural school. He married Leona Mayer, of Echo, on Sept. 25, 1940, in Lamberton. They lived for a few years on a farm south of Echo and then moved to the family farm north of Lucan where they remained until 1978 when they retired and moved to Vesta. He also did trucking and custom work. He was active as a 4-H leader and the Redwood County Fair as Superintendent of Poultry. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Lucan, where he was on the Cemetery Board and church board. He was a member of the Lucan School Board for 13 years.

Robert Kurth, 39, of Boon Lake Township, died on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Hutchinson Community Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church, Cedar Mills Township, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is from 8 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Julie of Boon Lake Township; children, Cassandra, Laura, Russel and Corey, all of of Boon Lake Township; mother, Gladys of Buffalo Lake; brothers LeRoy and his wife Susan, Richard and his wife, Nancy, all of Stewart, Leonard and his wife Janice of New Ulm, Rodney and his wife Carolyn of Hutchinson, Randy and his wife Tracy of Stewart; sisters, Marilyn Rusch and her husband David of Hutchinson, Mary Southwood and her husband Rod of Chaska, Linda Esser and her husband Chuck of Stewart, Lorie Kirtz and her husband, Doug of Hector; brother-in-law Jeff Linden of Buffalo Lake; sister-in-law Michelle Penk and her husband David of Silver Lake; mother-in-law Marion Linden of Hutchinson; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his father, George Kurth; grandparents Paul and Emma Kurth and Otto and Mabel Pless; and step-grandmother, Lena Pless.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1962, in Hutchinson, to George and Gladys (Pless) Kurth. He received his education at St. John's Lutheran School in Cedar Mills Township, and graduated from Buffalo Lake High School in 1981. He married Julie Linden on Aug. 20, 1983. He began farming the family farm in May 1985. He was a life-long member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Cedar Mills Township, where he served as a deacon. He was on the Renville County ADA Board and the Renville County DHIA Board, was a member of the First District Ag Services and an adult 4-H leader. He received the Outstanding Young Farmer award from the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce.

Iona (Dennistoun) Anderson, 87, of Redwood Falls, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2001.
Services are Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with burial in the Redwood Falls cemetery.
Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m. at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary and husband Robert V. Miller of Renville, and two granddaughters; Janine Miller of Eagan and Janelle Wertish and husband Jeremy of Renville.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; Peter Dennistoun and Floyd Anderson; an infant son; two brothers, Donald and Vernon; and a sister Vivian Boyle.
She was born April 14, 1914, in Flora Township, Renville County, to Christian and Emma (Miller) Schaefer. She moved with her family to Beaver Falls attending Beaver Falls Elementary School and graduating from Morton High School in 1932. She married Peter A. Dennistoun on March 1, 1938. They farmed in Paxton Township near Redwood Falls. He died June 11, 1960. She was a sales clerk at the Ben Franklin store for 18 years, retiring in 1978. On Jan. 28, 1978, she married Floyd Anderson at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls. He died Jan. 31, 1991. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. She belonged to the American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Melvin Werner, 85, of Lucan died on Thursday Oct.11, 2001 at Rice Memorial Hospital, Willmar.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lucan with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Sunset Burial Association of Echo and Wabasso is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Frances; sister-in-law Vera Olson of Sauk Centre; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Edward and Alfred; and sister, Viola.
He was born Feb. 25, 1916, in New Avon Township, Redwood County, to Herman and Minnie (Zimmerman) Werner. He attended District 7 country school. He helped out on the family farm before attending barber school. He married Frances George on Nov. 10, 1937, in Lucan. From 1937 to 1941 he operated a restaurant and barber shop in Clements. During WWII, he worked in a defense plant in California. In 1945 they moved to the Wabasso and Clements area where he helped Garnet Zeiske with farming and truckmg until 1967 when they moved to Minneapolis. In 1976 they moved to the farm near Lucan and he trucked part-time for Maleck Trucking.
