Phil De La Cruz, 50, of Madelia, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at his home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia, with burial in the church cemetary.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today, and an hour prior to services Wednesday, at the church.
Pilgrim Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Janice; daughters, Jamie Arizmedi and husband Ernesto, Annette De La Cruz, all of Madelia; son, Jason and wife Summer of Madelia; sister, Olivia De La Cruz of Madelia; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
He was born Nov. 21, 1950, in Waco, Texas, to Juan and Victoria (Salas) De La Cruz. He grew up in Waco and later in Winnebago where he graduated from high school in 1970. He married Janice Yess on May 2, 1975, in South Dakota. They lived in Madelia, where he worked as a mechanic and at Tony Downs Foods. He retired in 2001. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia.

Norbert J. Mueller, 87, of St. Paul, died Oct. 20, 2001, at Fariview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of St. Bernard, 197 Geranium St., St. Paul, with burial in Elmhurst Cemetery in St. Paul.
Visitiation is 4-8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Bradshaw Funeral and Cremation Service, 1078 Rice St., St. Paul.
He is survived by his daughter, Darlene and husband Dave Geiger of St. Paul; four grandchildren; sister, Olivia Odegaard of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and brother, Leander and wife Loretta of Prior Lake.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; infant son, Ronald; parents Jacob and Dorothy; brothers, Raymond, Harold and Herbert; and sisters Lillian Reinarts, Stella Liebl, Clara Bushard, Lucille Mueller and Elsie Newton.
He was born Feb. 13, 1914, in New Ulm, to Jacob and Dorothy (Schweiss) Mueller. He moved to St. Paul at age 26. He operated an automobile mechanics busines. He married Bernice James in December 1949 in St. Paul.

Betty Schmidt, 71, of 400 N. Jefferson St. in New Ulm, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at the New Ulm Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial in the City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
She is survived by her brothers, Gilbert "Bud" Rose of New Ulm, Melvin Rose and his wife, Josephine of Sleepy Eye, and Richard Rose and his wife, Darlain of Arlington; special nephews, Les Rose and his wife, JoAnn of New Ulm, and Mike Rose of Alamo, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbert Schmidt on Dec. 24, 1989; sisters, Ruth Olson, and Lorraine Bartz; and sister-in-law, Marlene Rose.
She was born Aug. 31, 1930, in Sleepy Eye, to Arthur and Lillian (Janisch) Rose. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran School in New Ulm. She married Wilbert Schmidt on May 6, 1961, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. She did daycare in homes, worked at Tony Downs in Madelia, Pietrus in Sleepy Eye, and later at Highland Manor in New Ulm. She was active in the Senior Citizens in New Ulm.

Loretta Esser Franta, 91, of Alexandria, died Oct. 20, 2001.
Mass of Christian burial is noon Saturday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm, with burial at 2:30 p.m. at the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to mass at the church. A reception will follow mass.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Bernie and Jan of Moab, Utah, and Greg and Jana of Boulder, Colo.; daughter, Marjorie Bean of Boston; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alma Esser; sister-in-law, Mickey Esser; brother-in-law, Brooks Fields and his wife Lucy; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jess, daughter Joan, granddaughter Sarah Bean, and seven siblings.
She was born May 9, 1910, in New Ulm, to Arnold J. and Emma (Langseth) Esser. She graduated from New Ulm High School and attended nursing school at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul. She married Jess Franta on May 2, 1931, in Minneapolis. They lived in many Minnesota communities, including New Ulm, Ortonville, Willmar, and Alexandria. They owned and operated the Parkway Best Western Motel in Willmar from 1956 to 1973. They retired in 1973 and moved to Alexandria.

Lillian G. Carlson, 91, formerly of New Ulm, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the Clear Lake Baptist Cemetery in Severance Township, Sibley County.
Visitation is 5 - 8 p.m. today and 7:30 - 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Glenn Hughes of Big Fork, Betty and Clem Leonard of Pequot Lakes; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and brothers, Ormal Bleck of Sleepy Eye, Leon Black of Franklin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd W. Carlson on Jan. 6, 1967; brother, Melvin Black; and sisters-in-law, Addie Black and Evelyn Bleck.
She was born on May 28, 1910, in Wellington Township, Renville County to Leonard and Ida (Waknitz) Black. She married Lloyd W. Carlson on Oct. 3, 1930 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairfax. They farmed in rural Gibbon and Klossner and in Cottonwood Township, Brown County from 1944 to 1967. In 1974 she moved to New Ulm. She later moved to Countryside Apartments in Sleepy Eye. She had been a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care Center for the past two years.

Elizabeth W. Groebner, 93, a resident of the Oak Hills Assisted Living in New Ulm, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at New Ulm Medical Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Council will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She is survived by her brother and sisters-in-law, Ben and Marian Groebner of Sleepy Eye; sister-in-law, Delores Groebner of New Ulm; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George, Frank and Arthur Groebner; and sisters, Leona Stadick and Marie Isenberg.
She was born Nov. 16, 1907, in Sigel Township, Brown County, to George and Mary (Kraus) Groebner. She worked at the Loretto Hospital in New Ulm from 1940-1975 when she retired. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Council.

Olivia Bauermeister, 84, died Oct. 19, 2001, at River Falls.
Services were Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Paul. She was buried Tuesday in St. Paul.
She is survived by a daughter, Corrine of Cottage Grove; four granddaughters and three grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon, daughter Marlene and two grandsons.

Effie Thomas, 89, of Buffalo Lake, died at her home recently.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake with burial in the First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Buffalo Lake.
Visitation is 1 p.m.Sunday at the church. Arrangements are with the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector.
She is survived by her children, Deryl Thomas and wife Mieko of Roseville, Calif., Sharron Mack and husband Tom of LaHabra, Calif., and Shirley Rusk and husband Keith of Montrose, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen; an infant son; one sister; and six brothers.
She was born on Dec. 16, 1911, in Cosmos to Fred and Mary (Hennings) Meyer. She grew up in the Cosmos area and graduated from Hutchinson High School.

Hazel Swanson, 89, of Balaton, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Balaton.
Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Balaton, with burial in Sillerud Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Almlie Funeral Home, Balaton and Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by a son, Dale and wife Janice of Pipestone; daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Jim Sanford of New Ulm, Marlene and LeRoy Moon of Chisago City, Debra and Wade Smith of Pipestone; daughter-in-law, Mary Anne Swanson of Inver Grove Heights; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Viola Hanson of Slayton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Myron and Ruth Swanson of Balaton; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Darvin; brothers, Gordon and Harry; an infant brother; sister, Dorothy Marquardt; son-in-law, Claire Kirk; half-brothers, Karl and John Knudson; and half-sister, Helen West.
She was born July 5, 1912, to Nels and Mathilda (Shober) Hanson in rural Balaton. She attended rural public schools. She married Palmer Swanson on May 6, 1931, in Balaton. They farmed near Balaton until 1962 when they moved to Balaton. She was employed by Balaton Public School as a cook where she worked until retirement. Her husband, Palmer died April 22, 1997. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and had been active in the Ladies Aid.

Charlotte Kabe, 80, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001 at the Good Samaritan Home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. today at American Lutheran Church, Windom, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth.
Visitation is 9:30-10:30 a.m. today at the church.
Arrangements are handled by Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home of Windom.
She is survived by sons and their spouses: Paul and Deanna Voth of Windom, James and Barbara Voth of New Ulm and Richard Voth of Louisville, Ky;. stepchildren, Gloria and Alan Lindell of Ceylon, Jerry and Evelyn Kabe of Blue Earth, Greg and Kathy Kabe of Bloomington, Ind; seven grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Helen Oelke of Janesville.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; brother, Elroy Oelke; sisters, Madeline Grapevine and Betty Porter.
She was born Sept. 4, 1921, in Blue Earth to John H. and Elizabeth (Martin) Williams. She attended Blue Earth schools. She married Paul Stenberg in 1938. He died in 1943. She married Henry Voth in 1944. He died in 1968. She married Albert Kabe in 1970 in Windom. He died in 1991. They lived in Blue Earth. She worked at the J. C. Penney store in Blue Earth for 27 years.

Marian Rodning, 87, of Norseland, died Oct. 26, 2001, at the St. Peter Community Hospital.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Monday at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church, Norseland, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church and one hour prior to services at the church.
St. Peter Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Elna, and Gordon and Jackie, all of Gaylord; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandehildren; a twin sister, Marie Thompson of St. Peter; sisters- in-law, Norma Monson, Ronnie Monson, Evelyn Monson, and Cora Rodning; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Oscar in 1995; and brothers, Everett, Arnold, Sanford, Raymond, Wallace, Joseph, Roy, Edward, and Nemerd.
She was born Feb. 24, 1914, in New Sweden Township, Nicollet County to John and Anna (Eckberg) Monson. She attended District 65 school. She married Oscar Raymond Rodning on Oct. 19, 1932, in New Sweden Township. They farmed in LeSueur County until 1945 when they moved to New Sweden in Nicollet County. She served as Sunday school superintendent and was active in church ladies' organizations. She served as a 4-H Leader, was active in home extension and was a member of the Monday Morning Club.

Bernice Ellanson, 77, of Hanska, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Madelia Community Hospital.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday. at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church in rural Hanska, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Firle Funeral Home in Hanska and continues one hour prior to the church service.
She is survived by daughters, Helene Karstens of New Ulm, Sharon Mosser and husband Dennis of New Ulm; son, Dean Ellanson of Hanska; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Phillip of Hanska, Duane and wife Leatrice of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Ella Ellanson of Hanska; nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Horace in 1987, her parents and son-in-law, Wallace Karstens.
She was born on June 19, 1924, to Albert and Olina (Bryggen) Overlie in Lake Hanska Township, Brown county. She attended District 7 and Hanska High School. She then worked as a housekeeper in New Ulm. She married Horace Ellanson on Feb. 13, 1943, at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church parsonage. They lived in California where she worked in a hospital while her husband completed military service. They returned to the La Salle and Hanska areas. She was a member of Lake Hanska Lutheran Church.

Gurina Olsen, 91, of Madelia, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church in Madelia with burial in Lincoln Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia and one hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
She is survived by daughter, Marlys Johnson and her husband LaVern of Madelia; grandchildren, Mark G. Anderson and wife Mary of Eagan and Pamela Anderson and fiance Lyle Pietsch of Madelia; and three great-grandchildren, Collin, Krister and Victoria.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977; sisters, Carrie and Inga; and a brother, Nelvin.
She was born Aug. 20, 1910, t to Nels and Martha (Thorness) Hustoft in Lincoln Township, Blue Earth County. She graduated from Madelia High School in 1928 and attended Mankato Teachers College. She taught school one year before her marriage to Orvin Olsen on May 26, 1934, at Lincoln Lutheran Church, rural Madelia. They farmed in rural Madelia until 1960. She became a resident of Luther Memorial Home in November 1999. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and church circles.
