Ernest J. Kalkhoff, 76, of Morgan, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Redwood Falls Area Hospital.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Morgan with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at t Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Morgan with a combined parish, Knights of Columbus and Catholic Aid rosary at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Morgan; children, Kathleen Sellner and husband Dave of Sleepy Eye and Luvern Kalkoff and wife Marion of Morgan; brothers, Bernard and wife Bernice of Morgan, Jerome and wife Joan of Clements; sisters, Rita Goblirsch and husband Francis of Wabasso, Beatrice Serbus and husband George of Hector and Bernice Snkyr of Franklin; and five grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.
He was born on Dec, 22, 1924, in Templeton, Iowa, to Henry and Kathryn (Fangmann) Kalkhoff. He moved to rural Clements at the age of two with his family. He attended District 101 and Wabasso schools and graduated from Wabasso High School in 1942. He married Dorothy Koll at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Morgan on May 2, 1950. They lived in Clements until 1957, when they moved to Olivia. They moved to Morgan Township in 1960 where he farmed until 2001. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was a member of Catholic Aid and served as financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus for nine years.

Wallace Hetle, 86, of Madelia and formerly of Hanska, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001 at Madelia Community Hospital.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at Nora Unitarian Universalist Church, rural Hanska, with burial at Mt. Pisquah Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery.
Visitation is 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Saturday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Madelia; sister-in-law, Muriel Thordson of Hanska; nephews, Marlan Thordson and his wife Evie, and Wayne Brudelie and his wife Jeanne, of Hanska; niece, Edythe Dankert of Brooklyn Center; one grandniece; four grandnephews; and many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Adeline Hanson; and brothers-in-law, Erwin Thordson, Walter Brudelie and Jerome Hanson.
He was born to Henry and Elvina (Sander) Hetle in rural Belview on Sept. 16, 1915. He moved to Hanska in 1935 with his family he worked for several area farmers. In 1940, he became a driver for Hanska Oil Company, which later became Farmers Co-op of Hanska. With the exception of serving almost four years in the U.S. Army during World War II, he continued delivering petroleum products for the co-op until he retired in 1980. He married Joyce Bjorneberg on Sept. 7, 1944. After retiring, he continued to live in Hanska until 1998 when he entered Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. He was a member of the Hanska Fire Department for several years and a member of the Oscar O. Haugen Post of the American Legion for mor than 50 years.

Helen G. Bruggeman, 77, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in Home Cemetery.
Visitation is 7:30-10 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral home in Sleepy Eye.

Verona Stadtherr, 92, of Mankato, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Services are Friday at 2 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church Chapel in Mankato with burial in Glenwood Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour before services at the church on Friday.
Arrangements are handled by Mankato Mortuary.
She is survived by sisters, Edna Loeffler of Le Sueur, Alma Bosacker of Kilkenny; sister-in-law, Olive Steinberg of Elysian and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and two brothers.
She as born Sept. 17, 1909, to Eduard and Alma (Roemhildt) Morsching in Elysian. She was married Leander J. Stadtherr on Nov. 25, 1937, in Mankato. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Theodore E. 'Ted' Kruggel, 82, of Winthrop, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-11 a.m. Friday, at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop.
Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop is handling the arrangements.

Carl W. Malmberg, 96, formerly of Lafayette, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday, at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Marie, a resident of the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center; daughters and sons-in-law, Marjorie and Gene Bieraugel of Enterprise, Ore., and Arlene and Jim Phillips of Lafayette; son and daughter-in-law, John and Judy Malmberg of Lake Elmo; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and twin sisters, Helen Malmberg and Louise Malmberg, both of Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter and Russell; and a sister, Edna Haugley.
He was born Jan. 28, 1905, in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County, to Emil W. and Anna Mae (Essling) Malmberg. He attended country school in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County, and Lafayette Public School. He attended Farm School at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul, graduating in 1928. He married Marie Volz on Nov. 6, 1940, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. They farmed in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County, and retired in 1977. In 1979 they moved to Lafayette, and in 1998 they moved to New Ulm. They became residents of the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop in 1999. They received the "Outstanding Senior Citizens of Nicollet County" award in 1995. He was a former member of the Bernadotte Band. He was a charter member of the Minnesota Over 60s Band, a member of the Lafayette Band, and was a board member of the Lafayette Co-op for 12 years. He was a charter member of the Lafayette 4-H club, and a charter member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette.
The family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers.

Helen G. Bruggeman, 77, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at St. John's Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Visitation is 7:30-10 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
She is survived by her husband, Jack, of Sleepy Eye; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Nancy of Wichita, Kan., Steve and Jean of St. Cloud, Joe and Carol of Sleepy Eye, Pat and Sue of Sleepy Eye, and Dave and Julie of North Mankato; 12 grandchildren; and sisters, Viola Wahl of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Dorothy Alseth.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret; brother, Roy; and brothers-in-law, Frank Wahl and Ken Alseth.
She was born Nov. 23, 1923, in Fairfax, to Ole and Edna (Berg) Nelson. She grew up and attended school in Fairfax, graduating in 1941. She attended Minneapolis Business School for two years. She returned to Fairfax where she worked as a bookkeeper at the Fairfax Creamery until 1946. She married Jack Bruggeman on Sept. 25, 1946, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. The couple moved to Sleepy Eye where they lived for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye and the CCW.

Bernice Ellanson, 77 of Hanska, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Madelia Community Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. today at Lake Hanska Lutheran church in rural Hanska, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is one hour before services at the church. Firle Funeral Home in Hanska handled arrangements.

Leota Dexheimer, 81, of St. James, died Oct. 26, 2001, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church in St. James, with burial in Calvary Cemetery in St. James.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-10 a.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. A Christian Mothers rosary is 4 p.m. Thursday and a parish prayer service at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, Earl; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Mary of Gladstone, Mo., and Lloyd and Sharon of St. James; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Alan Madsen of Maple Grove, Diane and Brad Butzlaff of Palmer, Ark., and Mary and husband Richard Rinne of St. James; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Fred Duwell; sister, Eleanora Walker; and her first husband.
She was born on May 25, 1920, in Mt. Carmel, Iowa, to John and Elizabeth (Starman) Duwell. She moved with her parents to Elgin, Neb. She married Edwin Scholl in 1941 and moved to St. James. Ed died in 1948. She married Earl Dexhemier in 1950. They farmed in South Branch Township for 23 years. They then farmed in Long Lake Township until retirement in 1986. They moved to St. James in 1994. She was a member of the Primrose Garden Club for 46 years, and a member of the Echols Extension Club for 23 years.

Eunice Huseby, 81, of Adams, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at Austin Medical Center.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Little Cedar Lutheran Church, Adams, with burial in the Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery, Adams.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Bernice, of Eyota; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Porter Hemingway of New Ulm; Carol and Wayne Schramm of Adams, and Janet and Randy Stephenson of Rose Creek; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Aaron in 1992; brothers, Donald and Sydney Torgerson, and grandsons, Michael and John Huseby.
She was born Aug. 21, 1920, in Adams, to Oscar and Clara (Lewison) Torgerson. She graduated from Adams High School in 1939. She attended the University of Minnesota, St. Paul campus. She married Aaron Huseby on Oct. 28, 1941. She was the "Lucky Clovers" 4-H leader for many years, a life-long member of Little Cedars Lutheran Church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Jean Koch, 70, of New Ulm, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at her daughter's home in rural New Ulm.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Cambria Presbyterian Church, with burial in the Cambria cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church Friday.
She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Jack, of Greenville, Texas, and Carl and Angie, of New Ulm; daughters and son-in-law, Terry and Dan Thorson, of New Ulm, and Ann Hughes of Owatonna; eight grandchildren; brothers, Tatsume Sakaguchi, Toshio Hanada and Kuntashi Sakaguchi, of Japan; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and a brother.
She was born March 30, 1931, in Fukuoka, Japan, to Tomezo and Asano (Akroda) Sakaguchi. She graduated from high school in Fukuoka, Japan. She married Charles Koch on May 24, 1954, in Futchinovi, Japan, where her husband was stationed while serving in the U.S. Army. They moved to the U.S. in 1956 residing in various cities while her husband completed his military duties. They moved to New Ulm in 1967 where she raised her children and worked for 3M Co. for 17 years, before retiring in 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Delores, of Winthrop; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Susan, of Winthrop, Gary and Lori, of Winthrop, and Charles, of Winthrop; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice Kruggel of Winthrop, Donna and Sherwood Matti, of Eastman, Wis. and Connie and Allan Kalk, of Fairfax; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Marjorie Pautz, of Gibbon; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Arlene, of Apple Valley; a sister-in-law, Leona Kruggel of Winthrop, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Dale, in 1960; granddaughter, Melissa Kruggel in 1981; parents, Herman and Bertha Kruggel; brother, Norman; and brother-in-law, Harry Pautz.
He was born April 11, 1919, in Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, to Herman and Bertha (Schlueter) Kruggel. He moved with his family to Winthrop in 1921. He graduated from Winthrop High School in 1937. He married Delores Gehrke on Dec. 3, 1946, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Parsonage in Penn Township, McLeod County. The couple farmed in Alfsborg Township, Sibley County. They retired in 1984 and moved into Winthrop in August 1997. He entered the Fairfax Community Nursing Home and transferred to the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in September.
He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Winthrop. He served as chairman, elder, trustee, council member, and usher. He also served on the trust fund committee and the building committee.
He was the first charter member and life member of the Winthrop Game Protective League. He also was a member of the Winthrop Senior Citizen Club. He served on the A.S.C.S. committee for nine years; the Sibley County Zoning Committee and the Gaylord Cenex Co-op Board for several years; Alfsborg Township Board for 27 years and Winthrop School Board for 18 years. He played an active part on the Winthrop Developing Committee, which searched for a doctor.

Evelyn (Mrs. Joe) Palmer, 86, of Spring Meadows Apt. 133; 6949 Main St.; Trumbull, CT 06611, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at her home. Her husband grew up in the St. George area before moving out east.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Trumbull with burial in the cemetery there.
The Adriola Funeral Home in Trumbull is handling arrangements.
Survivors include her husband and sons, George and wife Laura, Joey and wife Cookie, and four grandchildren.

Gertrude L. Schrieber, 92, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at Naeve Hospital, Albert Lea.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, and one hour prior to services at the church Saturday.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard A. and Barbara, of Bloomington; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine M. and Dennis Sellner, of Wells; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Henry Rose, of Fairmont; sister, Emma Thate, of Fairmont; sister-in-law, Polly Rose, of Truman; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert, on Jan. 7, 1996; brothers and sister-in-law, Herman Rose, Ernest and Gertrude Rose, John Rose and Peter Rose; sister, Anni Mohr; sisters-in-law, Elsie Rose, Ida and husband, Helmut Grage, Minna and husband Ernest Fick, and Sophie Rose; and brothers-in-law, Benny Thate and William Schrieber.
She was born Oct. 25, 1909, in Fehmarn, Germany, to August and Margareta (Busch) Rose. She attended school in Germany. She came to the U.S. in 1929, and she worked as a nanny in Fairmont. She married Herbert S. Schrieber on Aug. 16, 1931, in Fairmont. They lived in Winnebago, before moving to Sleepy Eye in 1932. She worked at the Palace Clothing for 27 years and also helped Herbert at the Model Shoe Shop. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye and the Friendly Neighbors Home Extension Group.
