Herbert F. Goblirsch, 81 of rural Redwood Falls, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001 at the Parkview Home in Belview.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Seaforth, with burial in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. There will be a prayer services at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Herbert Goblirsch is survived by his wife Bertha; his sons, Donovan and wife Barbara of Gilbert, Gerald and wife Patricia of Kerkhoven, James of Henderson, and Denis and wife Cindy of Redwood Falls; 16 grandchildren and two step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother John and wife Bernice of Redwood Falls; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Ronald, a sister Marion and a brother Vernon.
Herbert F. Goblirsch was born May 5, 1920 in New Avon Township, Redwood County, to Wenzl and Anna (Schwab) Goblirsch. He attended School District 101 in New Avon Township. On Sept. 6, 1939, he married Bertha Wensman in St. Michael's Catholic Church in Morgan. Together the couple lived and farmed in New Avon Township until 1949, when they moved to Sheridan Township, Redwood County, where he heridan Township, Redwood County, where he farmed until 1988. At that time he retired, but remained on the farm until December 2000. He then moved to the Parkwood Assisted Living Apartments in Belview to join Bertha, who now resides in Parkwood Nursing Home. Herb was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls, where he served as an usher. He then was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Seaforth. Herbert belonged to the Catholic Aid.

Owen Kuehl, 80, of St. James, died on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in St. James, with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today, with parish prayer service at 4:30 p.m., and continues 7:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons and daughters-in-law, David R. and Sue Kuehl of Silverdale, Wash., Keith and Mary Ann Kuehl of Winona, Dwight and Betty Kuehl of St. James and Kevin and Lauree Kuehl of Trimont; daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and Trevor Nau of St. James and Karen and Joe Dahl of St. James; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Ona and Rueben Kohn of St. James, Celista Hockel of Odin and Verna Jonson of Wichita, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Denise in infancy; brother, Russell; and sisters, Ruth Hammar and Alice Carmody.
He was born on June 18, 1921, to Fredrich and Erma (Meier) Kuehl in rural Ormsby. He attended country school through eighth grade. He helped at home until moving to California where he worked on various jobs. He returned to Minnesota and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 10, 1942. The majority of his service was in the South Pacific aboard the USS Chenango. Following discharge in 1945, he returned to St. James where he worked for various electrical contractors. He married Margaret Sturm on June 18, 1947. The couple lived in St. James. After taking night classes to obtain his master electrician license, he started Kuehl's Electric in 1971. He worked with his wife and sons in the business until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, VFW Post 1914 and American Legion Post 33, both in St. James. He also established a lawn mowing service with his grandchildren.

Irene Cornish, 88, of rural Vernon Center, died on Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Vernon Center, with burial in the Vernon Center Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to the church service.
She is survived by her husband, Wesley; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Kathy Cornish of rural Nicollet, Jerry and Rita Cornish of rural Vernon Center, Greg and Barb Cornish of Nice, Calif., Michael Cornish of rural Vernon Center and Tony Cornish of rural Good Thunder; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Gordon Larson of Brooklyn Park, Maureen Sens of rural Vernon Center, Michelle and William Negaard of rural Vernon Center and Denise and Robert Grant of Winnebago; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brother, Richard and Joan Pahl Jr. of Mankato; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother; two sisters; and three grandchildren.
She was born on March 19, 1913, to Richard and Rose (Pick) Pahl at Vernon Center. After high school, she was graduated from Mankato Commercial College. She then worked at Waldorf Bank. She married Wesley Cornish on Sept. 19, 1935, in Vernon Center. She was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

Mildred Schroeder, 86 of Owatonna, formerly of Fairfax, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at the Owatonna Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Fairfax with burial in the Bethel Cemetery in Cairo Township.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel and one hour before services at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur Schroeder, Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center; sons and daughters-in-law, Virgil and Carole Schroeder of Owatonna, Keith and Judy Schroeder of Comfrey; daughters and sons-in-law, LaVon and Gordon Funck of Sun City, Ariz., and Diane and Larry Nelson of Peoria, Ariz; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Alice Firle; daughter-in-law, Arlyce Schroeder; grandchildren, Dale and Bruce Schroeder; and sister, Eldora Gilbey Skalicky.
Mildred Lucile Schroeder was born on Sept. 8, 1915, in Cairo Township, Renville County, Minn., to Gustav and Alice (Jensen) Firle. On July 6, 1934, she married Arthur Schroeder. They lived in the Fairfax area until 1989, when they moved to Hastings. They also spent nine winters in Sun City, Arizona.
Memorials preferred to Decision Hills, Hastings United Methodist Church, Owatonna Area Hospice and the Fairfax United Methodist Church.

Morris Nelson, 86, of Rt. 1 Winthrop, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at the Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bernadotte Lutheran Church in Bernadotte with burial in the church cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Ernest Gedig American Legion Post 314 of Winthrop.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
He is survived by his wife, Lailah Nelson of rural Winthrop; daughters and son-in-law, Linda Nelson of Winthrop, Dawn and Lee Hendrycks of Arlington; sons, David Nelson and John Nelson both of rural Winthrop; seven grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Erna Nelson of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Verna Foster; and brothers, Bernard Nelson, Kenneth Nelson, and Evan Nelson.
He was born on May 4, 1915, in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County, to Jens Christian "Christ" and Emily (Monson) Nelson. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, attained the rank of Chief Aviation Machinist Mate, served in the Southern Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Lailah Ellingson on Dec. 27, 1946, at the home of Lailah's parents, Ole and Alma Ellingson, in Bernadotte Township Nicollet County. They moved to California in February 1947, and he worked for a variety of manufacturing companies as a machinist. They moved back to Minnesota in 1953, and then he worked as a machinist at New Ulm Manufacturing. In 1955 they purchased a farm in Alfsborg Township, Sibley County. He retired in 1977 from Raygo Manufacturing. He was a member of the Bernadotte Lutheran Church in Bernadotte and a member of the Ernest Gedig American Legion Post 314 in Winthrop.

Gladys P. GilbertsonLAKE CRYSTAL -- Gladys P. Gilbertson, 90, of Lake Crystal and formerly of the Butternut area, died on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at her home.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Butternut, with burial in Butternut Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the church service.
Lake Crystal Mortuary handled arrangements.
She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Marilyn and Marvin Hawker of Hutchinson, and Sharon Lewis of Butternut; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Phillip and wife Bonnie Mickelson; sister-in-law, Bessie Mickelson of Lake Crystal; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters; and three brothers.
She was born on April 15, 1911, to Martin and Lena (Larson) Mickelson in Butternut Valley Township. She attended country school and Madelia High School. She worked at the Butternut Store before marrying Lester Gilbertson on Aug. 21, 1933. She became a homemaker and active farm wife. She worked as a cook at Lakeview Restaurant in Lake Crystal for many years following her husband's death. She was an active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Butternut where she was Sunday School Superintendent and belonged to Ladies Aid.

Dolores G. Zobel, 82, formerly of the St. Michael's Apartments in New Ulm, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at New Ulm Medical Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and will continue on Wednesday from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. at the Cathedral on Tuesday. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Ronda Jean and Gerald Hatfield of Ceylon, and Rhona Ann Wallert of Fairmont; sons and daughters-in-law, Howard "Pete" and Rosemary Zobel of New Ulm, and Roger and Helen Zobel of Faribault; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Loretta Olson of New Ulm; and brother and sister-in-law, Eugene "Casey" and Emma Konz of New Ulm; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Zobel on Feb. 19, 1988; granddaughter, Mary Ann Zobel; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Peter Konz Jr. and Edward Konz; sister, Emma Konz, sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Roman Domeier; brother-in-law, Marlin Olson Sr.; and a nephew.
She was born June 14, 1919, in New Ulm to Peter and Anna (Dewanz) Konz. She attended Holy Trinity Catholic School in New Ulm. On May 30, 1938, she married Howard W. Zobel at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. They lived in New Ulm. She worked in the laundry department at the Loretto Hospital in New Ulm for a short time and then stayed at home and took care of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the Christian Mothers Society, the Ministry of Praise, and was a past local president, state vice president and state chairman of the American War Dads Auxiliary.

Marie Neisen, 85, of Minneapolis, formerly of New Ulm, died Nov. 11, 2001, at Walker Methodist Nursing Home in Minneapolis.
Services are at noon today at Arlington City Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters; and a son.
She was born Jan. 17, 1916, in rural Arlington, to Martin and Dora Joel. She was a self-employed beautician for many years in south Minneapolis. She had attended New Ulm schools.

Eldo 'Bud' Oliver Barker, 73, of Redwood Falls, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at his home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls, with burial with military honors in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in rural Redwood Falls.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service, Redwood Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey of Redwood Falls; daughters and son-in-law, Shelly of Willmant, and Tammy and Doug Hannen of Montevideo; sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Cari of Little Falls, and Brian and Wendy of Prior Lake; nine grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Doris of Jeffers; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Leon Carter of Windom, Wilma Holck of Jeffers, Peggy Matter of Molalla, Ore., Jeanette and Donald Best of Pennock, Lulabelle and Dick Moots of Troy, Mont., and Darlene and Ron Freyholz of Red Lake Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Earl, Jim and Bill; and sister, Margaret Pohl.
He was born Nov. 4, 1928, in Lamberton, to S.A. and Edna (Rutledge) Barker. He attended District 3 Cottonwood County schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was a prisoner of war for 22 months during the Korean War.
He married Audrey Parker on Feb. 8, 1955, at the Methodist Church in Lamberton. They farmed south of Lamberton for eight years and moved to Redwood Falls in 1962. He worked as a carpenter for Stanley Brosam for 24 years until he retired in February 2000. He was a member of the Ex-P.O.W. Prairie Land chapter, where he served as vice commander. He was a member of the Redwood Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the 40/8. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls.

Roy P. Sassenberg, 79, of New Ulm, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm, with burial in the City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Caroline of New Ulm; daughters, Jeanne MehIhop and her husband Gregory of New Ulm, Shirley Henderson and her husband Dale of Winthrop; sons, Gary Sassenberg of Las Vegas, Dale Sassenberg and his wife Darla of Winthrop; eight grandchildren; sister, Ruth Hanson and her husband Cliff of Minneapolis; brother-in-law the Rev. Clemmet Peterson and his wife Rev. Cindy Rasmussen of St. Paul; sister-in-law, Evelyn Sinell of Le Sueur; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul in infancy and Rueben.
Roy Paul Sassenberg, was born Oct. 21, 1922, in Kelso Township, Sibley County to Paul and Emma (Sinell) Sassenberg. He attended District 7 country school and operated his grandmother's farm. Following her death, he was employed by Green Giant company and later The Minnesota Valley Gas Company, both of Le Sueur. He married Caroline Peterson on Aug. 16, 1947, in Lafayette. They farmed for many years in Cornish Township, Sibley County, near Winthrop. They retired from farming in 1987, and moved to New Ulm in 1989. He became a resident of St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield in August 2000. He was a member of the Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm.

Frieda I. Klockmann, 81, of Winthrop, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop.
Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop is handling arrangements.

Harriet 'Jean' Clark, 71, of St. James, died Nov. 12, 2001, at her home in St. James.
Services are going to be held in the state of Virginia.
There will be no visitation.
She is survived by sons, Jack Clark Jr. of Milton, Fla., and Michael Clark of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughters, Jackie Megura of Seyaku Yoho, Japan, Carol Wiesner and her husband Craig of Fredricksburg, Va., Sharon Littlejohn of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mary Squier and her husband Randy of St. James; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brother, John Smith of Virginia Beach, Va; sister, Sue Kearley and her husband Pat of Mattoon, Ill.. and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jack Clark Sr.
She was born July 16, 1930, in Chicago to Frank and Mary (Lemmers) Smith. After earning her GED, she graduated from college with a teaching degree and taught school. On Nov. 27, 1948, she married Jack Edward Clark in Tijuana, Mexico. They made their home on several Naval bases where Jack was stationed. He died Feb. 4, 1991. Following her retirement, she lived in the Milton, Fla., area until moving to St. James in 2000.

Richard DeToy, 68, of St. James, died Nov. 12, 2001, at St. James Health Services in St. James.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery in St. James.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. There is a Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda of St. James; children, Steve and wife Darlene Crist of North Kingstown, R.I., Pam and husband Ken Ludvigson of Litchfield, Pat and husband Kevin Kolstad of St. James, Becki and husband Bob Reuter of St. James, Lori and husband Terry Koch of St. James; 18 grandchildren; twin brother, Bob and wife Lois of Missouri, Pete of Colorado; sister Jo and husband Don Ciancio of Colorado; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lou, Frank, Tom and Dan; and sister, Clara Carlson.
He was born on April 20, 1933, near Magnolia, to Camiel and Clemence (VerPlaets) DeToy. He grew up on a farm near Trosky. He graduated from Pipestone High School. He married Wanda Watts on Aug. 11, 1952, in Pipestone. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and served most of his time in Germany. He and Wanda moved to Estherville, Iowa, after he was discharged from the Army. He worked for Pan-O-Gold bakery. He took over DeToy's Restaurant in Madison in 1971. He moved to St. James in 1976 and opened DeToy's Family Restaurant. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 33 in St. James.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Evelyn 'Evy' Thordson, 47, of Hanska, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Firle Funeral Home in Hanska, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Marlan, of Hanska; daughter, Janelle Thordson and her special friend Nicholas Jackson, of St. Cloud; sons, Erick and Paul Thordson, of Hanska; brothers and sisters-in-law, Everett "Red" and Charlene Fischer of Elk River, Kenneth Fischer of Minneapolis, Edwin and Jean Fischer of Mankato, and Terry and Sue Fischer of Mankato; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Richard Carbonell of Chandler, Ariz.; mother-in-law, Muriel Thordson of Hanska; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law, Erwin Thordson, and nephew Curtis Fischer.
She was born Sept. 16, 1954, in Comfrey, to George and Margaret (Ayres) Fischer. As a child, she moved with her family to Lake Crystal. She graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1973. She worked for 3M in New Ulm following high school. She married Marlan Thordson on Aug. 15, 1976, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal. They lived in Hanska where she worked in the family business, Erwin's Grocery. She returned to 3M in 1992 where she worked until this past summer. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska.
