George Brandel, 69, of St. George, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, while working his delivery route in Glencoe, due to an apparent heart attack.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. George Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7-10 a.m. Wednesday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm. Catholic Aid will recite the rosary at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, and a parish prayer service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Marie of St. George; daughters, Valerie Somerson of Charlotte, N.C., Helene Decker and her husband Tim of Ashland Neb., Cynthia Benter and her husband Danny of Salem, S.D., MeLora "Lori" Rosson of Round Rock, Texas, JoEllen Fischer and her husband Robert of Gibbon; son, Charles Brandel of St. George; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Helen Kenning of New Ulm; sisters-in-law, Ramona Danhouser and her husband Eddie of Hutchinson, Kan., Helen Olson and her husband Lynn of New Ulm; brother-in-law, Elray "Buddy" Kenning and his wife Phyllis of Mankato; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and father-in-law, John Kenning.
He was born Aug. 23, 1932, in New Ulm to George and Ida (Maidl) Brandel. He attended St. George parochial school and Cathedral High School in New Ulm. He worked for the former Ranweiler Skelly and Fluegge Skelly stations in New Ulm. He married Marie Kenning on Sept. 17, 1952, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. They lived in New Ulm until 1959, when they moved to a farm in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, near St. George. They farmed while he also worked in the milk hauling business for 25 years as well as Kraft Foods in New Ulm. They moved into St. George in 1994. At the time of his death, he was working for Custom Courier Corp. of Wisconsin, picking up milk samples for AMPI throughout southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. He was a member of the St. George Catholic Church and the Catholic Aid Society.

John H. McWhorter, 84, formerly of 105 - 7th Ave NE in Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in the church cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard.
Visitation is 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-law, Roseann and Herb Huiras of Sleepy Eye, Elaine and Chuck Nalapinski of Stillwater, Mary Wolle of Lake Crystal, Lois and Alfredo Lee of Honolulu, Hawaii; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Shirley Abel of Pine, Ariz., Edward Abel, Jim Abel and Lewis and Eva Abel, all of Sleepy Eye; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cecelia "Teddy" McWhorter on May 5, 1989.
He was born Nov. 16, 1917, in Elkton, S.D., to Leon and Frances (Schweirkt) McWhorter. He served in the United States Army for 20 years and was stationed in the South Pacific in World War II. He married Cecelia "Teddy" Abel on Jan. 31, 1967, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They lived in Sleepy Eye. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye.

Viola "Olie" Zupfer, 94, of 919 N. Washington St., in New Ulm died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at New Ulm Medical Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a rosary by the St. Anne's Court, National Catholic Society of Foresters at 5:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
She is survived by sisters-in-law, Lillian Juenemann, a resident of the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye, and Lorna Zupfer, a resident of the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm; two nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry "Hank" Zupfer, on April 13, 1979; and brothers, Elmer, Robert, and Hubert Juenemann.
She was born July 16, 1907, in New Ulm to August and Wanda (Zoller) Juenemann. She graduated from New Ulm Public High School. On Oct. 19, 1935, she married Henry "Hank" Zupfer at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. She worked at the J. C. Penney Store in New Ulm for 23 years. She became a resident of the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye on Oct. 3, 2001. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, St. Anne's Court and National Catholic Society of Foresters.
The family prefers memorials to the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.

Roger Hanson, 50, of Hector, died Nov. 24, 2001, at his home.
Services are Thursday at 11 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Church in Olivia with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Hector.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and continues Thursday from 9 a.m. until the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Lori; mother, Adeline Hanson of Minneapolis; brother, Charles Hanson and wife Anne of Minneapolis; grandfather, Art Boyum of Fairfax and by many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by sons, Benjamin Patrick and Jeffrey Roger; his father, Waldo Hanson; and his grandparents.
He was born Feb. 3, 1951, to Waldo and Adeline (Ewert) Hanson at Luther Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis. He married Lori Boyum on Feb. 16, 1980, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector. He worked for Pat Olinger of Loadstar Transport, Inc. for 28 years. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Olivia where he previously served as a treasurer.

Kenneth H. "Kenny" Schmidt, 65, of 1900 N. Garden St., New Ulm, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at the Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital in Sleepy Eye.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-9- a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and one hour prior to services at church.
He is survived by his wife, Marlis, of New Ulm; his father, Merrill, of New Ulm; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Steve Daves of Winthrop; sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Kari, of Jordan, Fred and Sue, of Klossner, and Robert and Laurie, of New Ulm; 12 grandchildren; a great granddaughter; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorthea and Delmar Marquardt, of Park Rapids; and a brother and sister-in-law, Marlin and Nancy, of New Ulm.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alpha; a son, Mark on Dec. 24, 1958; a grandson, Charles, on Nov. 4, 1997; and a brother, James.
He was born Dec. 2, 1935, in Sigel Township, Brown County, to Merrill and Alpha (Grau) Schmidt. He married Marlis Deterling on June 30, 1955 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in New Ulm where he worked as an appliance repairman for Wilfahrt Brothers Hardware for 16 years, for Sears for 12 years, and then he was self-employed until retiring. He was a retired member of the New Ulm Fire Department serving with Engine Company 1 for 20 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Gerald Tessmer, 62, of Gaylord, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at the Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, with burial in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Gaylord.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Friday at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Judy of Gaylord; daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and John Peters of St. Peter, Monica and Lee Montanye of Gaylord, Melissa and Scott Becker of Gaylord, Marcy and Mark Soeffker of Gaylord, and Meredith and Jason Strand of Waconia; 12 grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Janice and James Borchert of Gaylord; a brother and sister-in-law, DuWayne and Barbara Tessmer of Brownton, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceeded in death by his parents Marie and Milton Tessmer.
He was born Feb. 25, 1939, in Brownton, to Milton and Marie (Polzin) Tessmer.
He married Judy Henschel on July 18, 1964, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. He attended grade school in New Auburn and high school in Glencoe. He lived in Brownton until he married. He moved to Gaylord after his marriage and worked at Crystal Foods as a truck driver for 40 years.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. For the last two years he lived at Lakeview Nursing Home due to illness.

Stanley P. Domeier, 81, of Novato, Calif., formerly of New Ulm, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, in Novato.
A memorial service for local relatives and friends will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm. Mass of Christian burial was Tuesday, Nov. 27, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Novato.
He is survived by his wife, Imelda; a daughter, Linda of Danville, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and John Buckley of Novato; a son and daughter-in-law, David J. and Sue Domeier of Walnut Creek, Calif.; two grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Domeier; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Delphine Domeier, Robert and Mary Ellen Domeier, and Charles and Kathleen Domeier; and sisters-in-law, Alice Domeier and Irene Domeier, all of New Ulm; sisters and brothers-in-law, Stacey and Bill Miller, of Remer, and Betty and Larry Goettl, of Owatonna; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Bonnie Domeier, of Lake Delton, Mich.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen; his parents; and brothers, William and Ferdinand.
He was born July 25, 1920, in New Ulm to William P. and Anastasia (Hillesheim) Domeier. He attended parochial school, graduating from Holy Trinity High School. He married Imelda Reinhart of New Ulm on Dec. 18, 1945.
After aviation cadet training, he received his wings in 1943. He participated in many WW II campaigns and was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement and devotion to duty. He served in the Armed Forces for over 23 years, retiring from the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel. He continued working for the Civil Service for many years as housing manager for Hamilton Air Force Base. He was a past Chairman of the Hamilton Air Force Base Credit Union.

Leslie Tande, 88, of Madelia, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Madelia, with burial in Rosendale Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Carolyn of Medford, Gerald and Arla, and Paul, all of Madelia; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn and Edgar Urevig of Lewisville, and Muriel Walsh of Madelia.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude in July 1996.
He was born Aug. 1, 1913, in Madelia, to Anton and Minnie (Bakke) Tande. He graduated from Madelia High School in 1932. He married Gertrude Hennis on May 28, 1939, in Madelia. They farmed in rural Madelia. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a former member of Rosendale Lutheran Church, Rosendale Township. He served on the church council at both churches. He was active with the American Dairy Association including the Holstein Association and the Dairy Herd Improvement Association.

Roland J. 'Rollie' Weise, 78, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of New Ulm, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Sioux City Hospital.
Services were Wednesday, Nov. 28, with burial of the cremains in Logan Park Cemetery, Sioux City.
He is survived by a friend, Pat Hutchinson; sons and daughter-in-law, Mark and Peggy of Alexandria and Michael of Menominee, Wis.; daughters and son-in-law, Christine and Bill Carlson of Omaha, Neb., Pam and Judd Reitkirk of Edina, and Patty Muenstigre of Symtha, Fla.; stepsons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Pat Capron, and Chuck and Sheryl Capron, and stepdaughter and son-in-law, Conny and Bob Dahl, all of Sioux City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Doris Weise and Ray and Mayonne Weise, all of New Ulm; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was born June 17, 1923, in New Ulm, to William and Anna Wiedl Weise. He graduated from New Ulm High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Dona Wilson in Sioux City. She died Nov. 25, 1983. He was a salesman for Apar Produce Brokerage.

Louise A. Tastel, 87, of 1315 N. Minnesota St. in New Ulm, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at New Ulm Medical Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4 - 8 p.m. Friday and 7:30 - 10 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Friday at the Cathedral, and there will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Ken Fischer of New Ulm; son, Charles "Chuck" Tastel and his finance, Kathy Sperl, both of New Ulm; grandchildren and their spouses, Scott and Colleen Fischer of Maple Grove, Bill and Lisa Fischer of New Ulm, Mike and Michelle Fischer of North Mankato, Tim Tastel of Brooklyn Park; four great-grandchildren; and brother and sisters-in-law, Norbert and Viola Seidl, and Leona Seidl, all of Sleepy Eye.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Tastel, on Dec. 7, 1996; grandson, Eric Tastel, on June 3, 1986; sisters, Minnie Schroepfer, Laura Schroepfer, Veronica Portner, Clara Portner, and Evelyn Sturm; and brother, Leonard Seidl.
She was born Dec. 23, 1913, in Stark Township, Brown County, to William and Catherine (Haala) Seidl. She attended country school in Stark Township, Brown County. She married Harold Tastel on Aug. 28, 1933, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They lived in New Ulm. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and Christian Mothers Society.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church or to the donor's choice.

Eugene 'Gene' M. Fromm, 61, of Sunnyvale, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at his home.
Mass of Christian burial is 9 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-9 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his mother, Agnes From of Sleepy Eye; brothers, Ervin and wife Dignora of Sioux Falls, S.D., Ed and wife Kathy of Sleepy Eye, David and wife Janis of Eagle Lake, Cletus and wife Dawn of Owatonna, Michael and wife Gail of Claremont, Mark and wife Rolene of Eagle Lake, and Joel and wife Lois of New Ulm; sisters, Rose of Sleepy Eye, Doris and husband Leo Csukker of Fairfax, and Carol and husband Michael Whitney of Mankato; sister-in-law, Rosie Fromm of Sleepy Eye; and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John in 1964; sister, Joanne in 1972; brother, Jerome in 1991, and sister-in-law, Judy in 1971.
He was born March 15, 1940, in Sleepy Eye, to John and Agnes (Neid) Fromm. He attended rural school District 60 and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye in 1958. He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, with two tours of duty in Vietnam. He last served at the Pentagon, retiring in May 1979 as a Senior Master Sergeant. He earned a master's degree at the University of Maryland. He was vice president of human resources at Golden Bay Federal Credit Union, Sunnyvale, Calif., when he died.

Warren Dahlgren, 82, of Bird Island, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Bird Island Manor.
Services are 3 p.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bird Island, with burial with military rites by the Bird island American Legion in the Bird Island City Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bird Island and one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are by Dirks-Blern Funeral Home in Bird island.
He is survived by sister, Mae Marwede of Fairfax; sister-in-law Doris Dahlgren of Bird Island; nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Glenn.
He was born Jan. 22, 1919, on the family farm in rural Fairfax, to Alvin Otto and Beda Eleanora (Johnson) Dahlgren. He attended Renville County District 46 School. He worked with his family on the farm and then served in the U.S. Navy for several years during World War II. He returned to Bird Island and farmed for many years, retiring into town in 1985. He was a member of the Bird Island American Legion and Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He was a resident of the Bird Island Manor in the past two years.

Annie Iverson, 82, of 319 N. Washington St., in New Ulm died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Services are 11 a.m. yoday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
She is survived by her son, Donald Iverson of New Ulm; sisters, Elizabeth Jutz of New Ulm, Carrie Oxford of Santa Ana, Calif., Tena Rathman of Olivia, and Jennie Schleusner of Bird Island; brothers, Sam Vanderwerf and Herman Vanderwerf, both of Springfield, and George Vanderwerf of Prior Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter Iverson on Aug. 21, 1994; and brothers, Bill, Claus, John, Peter, and Dick Vanderwerf.
She was born May 19, 1919, in Leavenworth Township, Brown County, to Peter and Anna (Hoyenga) Vanderwerf. She attended District 32 Country School. She married Peter Iverson on Dec. 14, 1937, in New Ulm. They lived in New Ulm where she was a homemaker.
