Ethel Moat, 78, of Springfield, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Springfield, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-10 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. A CCW Rosary is at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. A parish prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
She is survied by sisters, Edna Bollman of Tyler, Millie Pagel of Balaton, Helen Dennin of Litchfield, and Ellen and husband Isaac Baerg of Gaylord; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Walter in 1993.
She was born April 1, 1923, in Balaton, to Harry and Petrea (Larson) Dwire. She attended Balaton Public Schools, graduating in 1942. She married Walter Moat on Dec. 27, 1951, in Tracy. She moved to Springfield and worked at the Pantry Grocery and Sward-Kemp Drug and did home health care for many years. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, St. Annes C.C.W., and John Watson American Legion Post Auxiliary, serving as local president and 2nd District President in 1962.

Evelyn Sackl, 89, formerly of the Redwood Falls area, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Monticello.
Services are 11 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church, Vesta, with burial in Vesta Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.
She is survived by sister Altha Simning of El Cajon, Calif.; sister-in-law, Mary Sackl of Minneapolis; and six nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ervin Sackl and Leonard Sackl; sisters, Viola Gertjejansen, Irene Johnson, lone Starr, and Florence Britt; and a niece, Artie Keith.
Memorials are prefered to St. John's Lutheran Church in Vesta.
She was born Feb. 3, 1912, in Vail Township, Redwood County, to Joseph and Mathilda (Kurtz) Sackl. She graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1931. She worked at a canning factory for a short time before attending Johnson Beauty Academy in Mankato. She worked as a beautician in Winnebago and Belview and in the 1940s she opened her own beauty shop in Vesta. She retired in the mid 1980's. She lived in Vesta until February 2001 when she moved to Monticello. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Vesta and St. John's Ladies Aid.

Ida Hopp, 91, of Morgan, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at the Tri-County Hospital in Wadena.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church in Morgan with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Morgan and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by her children, Darlene and her husband Ralph Samuelson of Parkers Prairie, and Shirley and her husband Robert Montgomery of Cannon Falls; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Otis Arthur Hopp in 1987; a son Harlan; three brothers; and a sister.
She was born Oct. 7, 1910, on the home farm in Redwood County, to William and Ema (Wendt) Ziegenhagen. She attended country school near Morgan. She married Otis Arthur Hopp on Dec. 31, 1931, in Minneapolis. They lived in Morgan for 20 years and rural Hector. She did home healthcare and seasonal work for DelMonte and Peitrus Foods in Sleepy Eye. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, and a past member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Beulah Berg, 94, of St. James, died on Dec. 1, 2001, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James United Methodist Church, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-9 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and will continue one hour before services Wednesday at the church.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Carstensen and husband Bill of St. James; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister, Gail Peterson; and brother, Fergus Sanders.
She was born May 9, 1907, in Houston, to Charles and Ellen (Swenson) Sanders. She attended Houston Public Schools and graduated from Winona State University. She married Albert Andrew Berg on July 15, 1938, on a family farm near Houston. They made their home in St. James. She taught school for two years in Upsala and 28 years in St. James. Albert died on April 11, 1955. She volunteered as a Gray Lady at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. She served her church as an organist. She was named Outstanding Senior Citizen in Watonwan County.

Hedwig "Hattie" Loftness, 88, of Gibbon died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at Fairfax Community Home.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3-7 p.m. today and 7:30-11 a.m.Thursday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
She is survived by her husband, Oliver 'Ollie' Loftness, a resident of the Belle Plaine Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine; daughters and son-in-law, Janet and Richard Graupman of rural Gibbon, and Linda Wolter of Mission Viejo, Calif.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson; a sister and brother-in-law, Emma and Carl Bourman of St. Paul; brother and sister-in-law, William and Dorothy Burdorf of St. Paul; sisters-in-law, Lucille Burdorf of Courtland, and Lorraine Burdorf of West St. Paul; brother-in-law, Otto Trebelhorn of Eau Claire, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Martha Johnson and Anna Trebelhorn; brothers, Paul, Arthur, Fredrich, Elmer, Henry Burdorf; and a brother Raymond Burdorf in infancy.
She was born April 20, 1913 in Moltke Township, Sibley County, to William and Emma (Mueller) Burdorf. She graduated from Gibbon High School. She attended Mankato Teachers College. She taught country school and was a telephone operator in Windom and Gibbon. On June 3, 1945, she married Oliver Loftness at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. They farmed in Severance Township, Sibley County until moving into Gibbon in 1974.
She became a resident of the Fairfax Community Home since February 1998. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, and she taught Sunday school for many years.

Judy Ann Zamzow, 59, of Brooklyn Park and formerly of the Morgan area, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 at her home.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Brooklyn Park Lutheran Church in Brooklyn Park.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
A visitation and memorial service start a 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Morgan.
Evans Norby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by children, Steve of Plymouth, Beth of Minneapolis, Susan and her husband, Frederic of New York, Paula of Minneapolis; four grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron and Marcella Madsen, Bill and Janet Madsen, Gary and Linda Madsen; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfried; and her parents, Weldon and Clara Madsen.
She was born in Brookville Township, Brown County, Minnesota, on Nov. 7, 1942, to Weldon and Clara (Busiahn) Madsen. She graduated from Morgan High School in 1960. She received a registered nurse diploma in 1963 from Lutheran Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis. She married Wilfried Zamzow on Dec. 29, 1963, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Morgan. They farmed in Three Lakes Township until Wilfried's death in 1978. She worked at Sleepy Eye, Heron Lake and Redwood Falls hospitals. In 1988, she relocated to Mankato and worked as an obstetrics nurse at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital. She earned a B.S. degree in nursing from Mankato State University in 1990. She received a master's degree with a focus in midwifery from the University of Minnesota in 1992. After moving to Ashland, Wis., in 1994, she worked at Duluth Clinic-Ashland and Memorial Medical Center as a nurse midwife. In 1998, she moved to Minneapolis and continued her work with the nurse midwives at Park Nicollet Health Services.

Cleotha Zieske, 86, of Walnut Grove, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at English Lutheran Church, Walnut Grove, with burial in Springfield City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Jacobson Funeral Home, Walnut Grove, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by a son, Steve of Bloomington; two grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Vince Kamolz; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald in 1976; and a brother, Harlowe.
She was born Sept. 22, 1915, in Comfrey, to Charles and Ella Krueger Schneider. They moved to Walnut Grove in 1924, where she graduated from high school in 1933. She graduated from Brady Rogers School of Cosmetology in Minneapolis. She worked at Doigs Beauty Shop and Walt's Barber and Beauty Shop in Walnut Grove. She married Donald Zieske on Feb. 24, 1939, in Walnut Grove. She belonged to English Lutheran Church, Walnut Grove.

Lee Owens, 76, of Lake Crystal, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at his home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Crystal, with burial in Jerusalem Cemetery, rural Lake Crystal.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; a son, Joseph N.L. Owens of rural Lake Crystal; sisters, Edna Owens of rural Lake Crystal, and JoAnn Davis and husband Oryle of Medford; brothers, Glen Owens and Raymond Owens, of rural Lake Crystal and Donald Owens of Foreston; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was born May 18, 1925, in Judson Township, Blue Earth County, to Joseph and Myrtle (Davis) Owens. He attended Four Corner School, Judson Township. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from Dec. 4, 1944, to Dec. 16, 1946. He married Helen Rogers on May 25, 1966, in Nashua, Iowa. He farmed and owned and operated Lee's Drive Inn in Lake Crystal in 1957-1968. He drove truck for the Mankato Creamery and gas transport for his brother. He was Judson Township assessor in the 1960s. He belonged to American Legion Post 294 in Lake Crystal.

James Sheesley, 86, of Fairfax, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Hector, with burial in the Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation is 5 - 8 p.m. today at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his children, Gary Sheesley and wife Barbara, of Bonifay, Fla.; Sheila Proehl, of Golden Valley; Nancy Edwards and husband Bob, of Duluth; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Agnes; and brothers, Lee, Lewis and Merlyn.
He was born Jan. 15,1915, in Bert, Iowa, to James and Nellie (Sandquist) Sheesley. He grew up and attended school in Hector. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He married Agnes Roberts. The couple farmed in the Hector area. Agnes died in 1977. He then retired and moved to Fairfax. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Hector and Hector American Legion.

Marie Malmberg, 93, formerly of Lafayette, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and one hour prior services at the the church. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Arlene and Jim Phillips of Lafayette, and Marjorie and Gene Bieraugel of Enterprise, Ore.; son and daughter-in-law, John and Judy Malmberg of Lake Elmo; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and a sister, Coletta Hartung of Hutchinson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl W. Malmberg on Oct. 28, 2001; a grandson, Michael Bieraugel; and a sister, Florence Krohn.
She was born March 14, 1908, in New Richland, to Josef and Theresa (Walser) Volz. She graduated from New Ulm High School in 1925 and in 1926 she attended Normal Training in Mankato and then attended St. Cloud State for one year. She taught in country schools in Nicollet County for thirteen years. She married Carl W. Malmberg on Nov. 6, 1940, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage they farmed in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County and retired in 1977. In 1979 they moved to Lafayette and in 1998 they moved to New Ulm. In 1999 they both became residents of the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop. She was active as a Bernadotte 4-H Leader, the Lafayette Study Club for 49 years and received the "Outstanding Senior Citizen Award" in Nicollet County with her husband in 1994. She volunteered as a Grey Lady at the Lafayette Good Samaritan Center in Lafayette for many years. She was a charter member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette, and was the secretary for the Altar Society at church for 20 years. The family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers.

Ruth E. Bussler, 87, of Winthrop, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at the Gaylord Lakeview Nursing Home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8 a.m. Saturday at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
She is survived by her sons, Dennis Bussler of Winthrop, and Jerry Bussler and his wife, Annie of Rapid City, S.D.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Grunewaldt of Winthrop; sisters-in-law, Alno Rickert, Lucille Rickert and Gladys Rickert, all of Brownton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph Bussler on June 20, 2001; a daughter, Janice Bussler, in infancy; her parents, Otto and Clara Rickert; brothers, Lawrence, Orlin and Vernon Rickert, and sisters, Lorinda Rickert, Edna Radke and Hilda Zieman.
She was born Feb. 26, 1914, in Round Grove Township, McLeod County, to Otto and Clara (Schlueter) Rickert. She graduated from Parochial school in Brownton.
She married Adolph A. Bussler on Sept. 24, 1937, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. They farmed with Adolph's brother during the first year of their marriage. They farmed with other relatives for a few years. They moved to Fairfax in 1940, and managed a farm there. In 1943, they rented Milton Frank's farm in Bismarck Township, Sibley County. In 1944, they rented a farm in Transit Township, which they later purchased. They lived there until 1969, when they moved to the Martin Becke farm in Bismarck Township, which they had purchased in 1964. They continued residing on that site until they moved into Winthrop in 1996. Due to ill health, she had been a resident of the Gaylord Lakeview Nursing Home for the past several years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, where she was active in the past with the Ladies' Aid.

Raymond F. Wenninger, 73, of Lafayette, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11a.m. Tuesday at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 3 - 8 p.m. Monday and 7 - 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm. A parish prayer service starts at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife Marcella of Lafayette,; daughters and sons-in-law, Bernette and Ernie Puncochar of Maple Lake, Bonita and Don Brandel of Shakopee, Jane and Tom Beranek of New Ulm, Brenda and Doug Berens of Prior Lake, and Joleen and Craig Wilson of Lafayette; sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Kathy of Lafayette, Leslie and special friend Jami Ellington, Leon and Teresa of New Ulm, Kevin and Barb of Winthrop, and John and his fiance Paula Thunander of Lafayette; 25 grandchildren; sisters, Loretta Stueber and her husband Harry of St. Paul, and Darlene Schmidt and her husband James of New Ulm; brothers, Melvin Wenninger and his wife Mary Ann of Sauk Center, and Lenard Wenninger of Tracy; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Irene Schlumpberger of New Ulm, Erwin and Elaine Hillesheim of New Ulm, Bernice and Henry Holm of Gibbon, Leo and Margaret Hillesheim of New Ulm, Lester and Cathy Hillesheim of New Ulm, Gladys and Kenneth Salfer of Wabasso; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Vernon.
He was born July 21, 1928, in Nicollet County, to Frank and Sophie (Ubl) Wenninger. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He married Marcella Hillesheim on Sept. 14, 1949, at Holy Trinity in New Ulm. They farmed in Sibley County near Lafayette for the remainder of his life. He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette and a former member of the church board; a former member of the Lafayette Lions Club; and a board member of the Lafayette Farmers Coop for 21 years.

Dagney Elvin, 72, of St. James, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in Brooklyn Park.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, St. James, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-9 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James and one hour prior to the service at the church Monday.
She is survived by daughters, Jill and her husband Curt Lund of Brooklyn Park, Jennifer Lieser and her fiance Mike Foulger of Powell, Wyo.; sons, Jon Blanchfield, St. James, and Joel and his wife Yvonne Blanchfield, New Hope; step daughters, Lynn and her husband Jim Larson of St. James, Vicki and her husband Orlando Johnson of Darfur, Jan and her husband Rod Daver of Hutchinson; a stepson, James and his wife Tracey Elvin of Bartlesville, Okla.; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Marianne Dietz of Winnebago; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Gage of Mankato; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William Blanchfield; her second husband, Raymond Elvin; and brothers, Jofred and Edsel.
She was born Jan. 10, 1929, in Seely Township, to Jorgen and Jennie (Haaland) Almlie. She married William Blanchfield on Dec. 20, 1947. He died in October 1978. In November 1980, she married Raymond Elvin in Powell, Wyo. He died in January 2001. She was a 40-year member of the First Lutheran Church, St. James. She was involved in the Ladies Aid at church and the Ladies Auxiliary for the VFW and the American Legion. She also volunteered for the American Cancer Society, the Boy Scouts, and was a Brownies Leader.

Dormand Kirtz, 86, of Hector, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church, Hector, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, with a 7:30 p.m. rosary, and one hour prior to services at the church Monday.
