Viola A. Berger, 95, formerly of Gibbon, died Dec. 12, 2001, in St. Petersburg, Fla.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Antonsen and husband Orville, of Gibbon; son, Charles Berger of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Debra Johnson of Eagan, Brenda Mathews and Venice, Fla., Bruce Antonsen of Buffalo Lake; four great-grandsons; sister-in-law, Lucille Kiecker of Fairfax and many nieces and nephews.
She was born on April 16, 1906, to Helmuth and Wilhemena Hintzmen Kiecker. She married Clarence Berger in November 1924. They farmed in rural Gibbon. In 1947 they moved to Minneapolis. She worked at Dayton's Department Store. She moved to Florida in 1971.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence in 1959; son, Robert in infancy and all of her brothers and sisters.
Her crematoral remains will be placed in Wellington Cemetery.

Virgie I. Knutson, 90, of St. Peter died Monday Dec.17, 2001, at St. Peter Community Health Care Center.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Norseland Lutheran Church, Norseland with burial in Norseland Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Norseland Lutheran Church and Thursday at the church, one hour prior to services.
St. Peter Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by daughters, Corrine Clarkin of Faribault, Margaret and husband Maynard Lucht of Braham, Carole Knutson of Cambridge; sons, Roland and wife Marlys Knutson of St. Peter, and Eugene Knutson of St. Peter; sisters, Dorothy and husband Martin Rud of St. Peter, Eldora Horrey of Bloomington; eight grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond in 1961; brothers, Ralph Sandeen, Irvin Sandeen, Maynard Sandeen and Clair Sandeen and a great-granddaughter.
She was born Jan. 9, 1911, in New Sweden Township, Nicollet County, Minnesota to Martin and Hilda (Johnson) Sandeen. She attended rural District 46 school in Nicollet County. She married Raymond Knutson Aug. 19, 1933, in St. Peter. They resided in rural Nicollet County until Raymond 's death in 1961 when she moved to St. Peter. She worked as a cook for the St. Peter Community Hospital and Health Care Center, retiring in September 1983. She was a member of Norseland Lutheran Church, St. Peter V.F.W. and American Legion Ladies auxiliaries.

Brice Bethke, 61, of Haines City, Fla., formerly of Stewart, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at the Orlando Regional Hospital.
Services are 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Stewart, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4:30-7 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Arrangements are with Hughes Funeral Home.
He is survived by his children, Stacy Johnson and her husband Joel of Redwood Falls, Stephanie DeJaeghere and her husband Mark of Russell, and Krista Davis and her husband Chuck of Redwood Falls; five grandchildren; a sister, Kay Bonde and her husband Tom of Spicer; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Corallee; and brother Jon.
He was born Aug. 8, 1940, in Stewart, to Otto and Evelyn (DeGree) Bethke. He grew up in the Stewart area and graduated in 1958 from Stewart High School. He was active with the Future Farmers of America. He married Corallee Dabson on Nov. 22, 1963, in Stewart. They lived in the Stewart area. He started farming at the age of 13 and retired in 1992. He moved to Marshall and worked for area farmers. In 1996, he moved to Haines City, Fla., and was employed as the assistant chief engineer at a hotel.

Theresa Nachreiner, 97, of Springfield, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001 at St. John Lutheran Home.
Services are10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-10 a.m. Thursday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield and a St. Anne's CCW rosary at 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
She is survived by a son, Denis and wife Dorothy Nachreiner of Springfield; daughters, LaMay and husband Richard Drexler of Redwood Falls, Irene and husband Clarence Weiss of Comfrey;
nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Marie C. Cook of Sleepy Eye; brothers, Ethelbert and wife Agnes Mathiowetz of Sleepy Eye; Anton and wife Phyllis Mathiowetz of St. Cloud; Art and wife Winifred Mathiowetz of Comfrey; sisters-in-law, Ruth, Rose, Mary, Ida, Lucille and Agnes Mathiowetz and Arlene Ebelsizer
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugo in 1960; son, Eugene In infancy; brothers, Raymond, Wendelin, Ambrose, Alfred, Joseph, Leo and Leonard Mathiowetz and tow brothers in infancy; sister-in-law, Sarah Mathiowetz; and brother-in-law - Wilfred (Dutch) Cook.
She was born Aug. 19, 1904, In Mulligan Township, Brown County, to Barthol and Theresa (Remigor) Mathiowetz. She attended country school. On April 26, 1937, she married Hugo Nachreiner at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. The couple lived in Burnstown Township. She moved into Springfield in 1986. She became a resident of St. John Lutheran Home in 1990. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church and St. Anne's C.C.W.

Mary E. Gauthier, 94, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Woodland Hills Chapel, Mankato, with burial in Woodland Hills Memorial Park.
Visitation is one hour prior to services in the chapel Friday.
She is survived by brother and sister-in-law, Everett and Lois Reiff of New Ulm; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis; a sister; four brothers; and a nephew.
She was born July 21, 1907, in Newton, Kan., to Martine and Hattie (Berner) Reiff. She married Louis A. Gauthier on June 3, 1939, in Iowa. She was a long-time employee at Goodman's Jewelers.

Carol M. Justice, 64, of Mason City, Iowa, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at her home.
Memorial services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Jacobson Funeral Home, Walnut Grove, with inurnment at North Herro Cemetery, Walnut Grove. She was cremated at Cremation Services of North Iowa.
She is survived by her husband Donald, of Mason City, Iowa; daughters Vickie Patraw, of St. Paul, and Shelly Odland and her husband Craig, of Ramsey; son Robert Justice, of Mason City; six grandchildren; sisters Sharon and her husband Bill Hanson, of New Ulm, and Sandra and her husband Reinhardt Brunn, of Hinckley; and a brother, Donald and his wife Nan Gullickson, of Florida.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; and a brother, Duane Gullickson.
She was born Sept. 20, 1937, in Tracy, to Leonard and Gertrude (Hanson) Gullickson. She graduated from Tracy High School. She was employed as the salad lady at the Pheasant Run restaurant, and later for Prime and Wine and Pappa's.

Fred "Fritz" O. Trautmiller, 74, of New Richmond, formerly of New Ulm, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Maple Manor Health Care Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m Saturday at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Stanton Township, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Cullen-Hegstrom Funeral Home, New Richmond, Wis., and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his mother, Anna; children and spouses, Fred and Marilyn, JoAnn and Bob Denno, David and Merry, Maryteri and Art Garcia, Susan and Jerry Stordahl and John and Megan; 23 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Doris, and Bill and Kathy; and sisters Annie, Alice, Lois, Mary Jane, Ruth, Carol and Shirley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian; father, George; brother, George; daughter, Sandra; and a grandson.
He was born Oct. 6, 1927 in New Ulm, to Anna and George Trautmiller. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1945-47.
Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.

Christine M. Wandersee, 85, of Sleepy Eye, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by her children, Jim Tews of Round Rock, Texas, Judy Risen of Onalaska, Wis., Mickey and husband Steve Meyer of Springfield, Eileen Wandersee of Wyoming, and Rita Tews of Honolulu, Hawai; stepchildren, Wally and wife Charlotte Wandersee of Bloomington, Shirley and husband Lester "Skip" Schmidt of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Jean Pipes of Springfield; a step son-in-law, Larry Keys of Tucson, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; 19 step grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd Tews; husband, Herbert Wandersee; sisters, Lillian Ziese, Susan Keehn; son-in-law, Lynn Wandersee; a granddaughter; a step daughter; and a step granddaughter.
She was born Dec. 16, 1916 in Dunlop, Iowa, to Christian and Sarah Viola (Pachen) Hansen. She moved with her family to a farm near Evan and attended grade school in Evan. She graduated from Sleepy Eye Public High School in 1936. After graduation she helped her family and also worked on other family farms. She married Floyd Tews in 1941 in Evan. They lived in Sleepy Eye where she worked seasonally at Pietrus Foods and Del Monte. He died in May 1959. She remained in Sleepy Eye and worked at the Sleepy Eye Hospital. She married Herbert F. Wandersee on Sept. 25, 1965, in Sleepy Eye. He died in January 1974. She moved to Country Side Apartments in January 2001. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, the Ladies Aid and the Sleepy Eye VFW Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Swinging Grandma's Square Dance Group and was a 4-H leader.

Dennis Goche, 91, of Wabasso, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Rice Memorial Medical Center, Willmar.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Wabasso, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation one hour prior to services at the church. The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Marcella; children, Connie and husband Ron Martin of Cottonwood, Calif., Carmen and husband Steven Zick of Lucan, Claudia and husband Gordy Weiers of Glenwood, and Kevin Goche of Lucan; 15 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence and wife Bernadette Goche of Seaforth; and sisters, Thelma Atkins of Wabasso, and Elanora Kuelbs of Shakopee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Sylvia Menke, and brother Walter Goche.
He was born July 23, 1920, in Seaforth to Martin and Louise (Wartner) Goche. He attended Seaforth Public School and St. Anne's Catholic School, Wabasso. He attended the University of Minnesota Morris Agriculture School. He served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 22, 1942 to Oct. 14, 1945. He took part in the Normandy Invasion and served in other parts of Europe. He cane home and attended Bon Broberg's ag school in Redwood Falls. He married Marcella Heiderscheidt on June 17, 1946, in Morgan. They farmed near Seaforth and later owned and operated the Corner Cafe in Lucan. He worked various jobs in the Wabasso area after retiring from the restaurant business. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, the Wabasso Legion and the Lucan Bowlers.

Louise Hamann, 92, of New Ulm, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001 at Oak Hills Living Center, New Ulm.
At the request of the family, no services are planned at this time. Burial will take place in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Firle Funeral Home, New Ulm, is handling arrangements.
She is survived by nieces and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Hamann of Mobridge, S.D.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Meehl, and two brothers, Clarence and Elmer Hamann.
She was born Nov. 6, 1909 to Fred and Dora (Griebel) Hamann in New Ulm.
She graduated from New Ulm High School and the University of Minnesota with a degree in Home Economics. She worked for the Public Works Administration during WWII and held several other positions in various parts of the country.
She returned to New Ulm in the mid 1950s and worked for 20 years at the former Union Hospital, as the hospital dietitian, retiring in 1975. She continued to live in New Ulm, moving to Oak Hills Living Center in June 2000. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Turner Hall and the Turner Ladies.

Evelyn Torgerson, 91, of St. Peter died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001 at her residence.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church, Norseland with burial in the Scandian Grove Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is two hours prior to services Wednesday at the church. St. Peter Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Leafblad of St. Peter; a son, Roger and wife Betty Torgerson of St. Peter; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley in 1991; a granddaughter; and sisters, Esther Lundborg and Edna Force.
She was born Dec. 3, 1910 to Andrew and Anna (Pehrson) Benson in Lake Prairie Township, Nicollet County. She attended rural district 63 school, was a graduate of Gustavus Academy, attended two years of college at Gustavus Adolphus College, transfering to Bethesda Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in St. Peter where she graduated as a registered nurse. She worked as Director of Surgery at the Grand Rapids Hospital.
She married Stanley Torgerson in St. Peter on June 30, 1938. She worked for Dr. Lenander in St. Peter doing home nursing. She later worked as a Nicollet County nurse, retiring in 1972. She was active in Scandian Grove Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and on many organizations and committees. She worked as a 4-H volunteer for over 20 years; and for the Nicollet County Extension as an educator of home health care.

Eldora Bakken, 88, of Lamberton, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at Valley View Manor, Lamberton.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Walnut Grove, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at Jacobson Funeral Home, Walnut Grove and Thursday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Alan) Bakken of Forest Lake, Louise (James) Wenner of Oakdale; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorraine Steffen and Anna Margaret Warner, both of Walnut Grove; brothers, Truman and Konrad Kopperud, both of Westbrook, Roger Kopperud of Revere and Eli Kopperud of Ely.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2000 and a brother.
She was born April 30, 1913, in Cottonwood County, to Eimer and Linda Mathiason Kopperud. She attended rural schools near her home. She married Floyd Bakken on Feb. 1, 1941, at Westbrook. They farmed in Cottonwood County. She belonged to St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Lourine Meier, 79, of Stewart, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at the Cokato Manor.
Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Stewart, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday at the church, two hours prior to the service.
Arrangements with Hughes Funeral Home, Hector.
She is survived by her children, Gary Meier and his wife Naomi of Hutchinson, Larry Meier and his wife Betty of Stewart, Kathleen Eichelberger and her husband Charles of New Brighton, Ron Meier and his wife Patricia of Elk River, Debbie Schafer and her husband Craig of Marshall, and Steven Meier of Minneapolis; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Mabel Swigart of Cosmos; and nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur; daughter, Karen Kadelbach; grandson, Scott Eichelberger; brothers Henry, Ed, and Herman; and a sister, Elsie Schoening.
She was born Sept. 16, 1922, in Preston Lake Township, Renville County, Minnesota to Carl and Minnie (Westphal) Will. She grew up in the Stewart area, attending District 130. On Dec. 5, 1941, she married Arthur Meier at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Stewart. They lived in the Stewart area. She worked as a cook at the Stewart Public School, retiring in 1984. She moved to Hutchinson in 1997.
