David A. Carlson, 38, of Mankato, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at his home.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hope Baptist Church in Mankato with burial in Glenwood Cemetery in Mankato.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before the church service.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia; children, Daniel and Erica; parents Dwight and Verna Carlson of Alden, Iowa; brother, Steven of Fargo, N.D.; sisters, Suzanne and husband Christ Matula of Kimberly, Wis., and Sandra and husband Cpt. William Dobbs of Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D.; nieces and nephews; sister and brother-in-law Lorna and Gavin Arsenault.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Rev. Carl and Signe Larson and Peter and Tina Toews.
He was born on April 2, 1963, to Dwight and Verna (Toews) Carlson in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1981. He graduated from Ellsworth Community College with an Associate of Arts Degree in 1983. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science and business administration from Mankato State University in 1985 and received a master's degree in business administration in 1987. He married Marcia Strom on April 4, 1987, at Dalesburg Lutheran Church in rural Vermillion, S.D. He was CFO for Courtland Industries in Courtland, where he worked since 1987. He was a member of Hope Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher and church treasurer.

Linda M. Diel, 52, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at Madelia Community Hospital of cancer.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Willow Creek with burial is in the north church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia and one hour prior to the church services Thursday.
She is survived by her husband, Herb; daughters, Patricia Marie and Christy Lynn of Madelia; mother, Lottie Paulson of Madelia; half-brother Robert Lange of Kimball; stepchildren, Victoria, William, Bethann and Kenneth Diel, Linda Hanson; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father; stepfather, Robert Paulson; and grandparents.
She was born on Jan. 18, 1949, to Franklin and Lottie (King) Peterson, in Albert Lea. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1967. She attended South Central Technical School in Mankato and received a degree in computing. She worked a Lloyd Lumber in Mankato until it closed. She then worked at Vandenburgh Foods, Quick Corner and REM in Madelia. She married Helmut "Herb" Diel on Sept. 19, 1981, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Willow Creek.

Richard 'Dick' Hendryks, 58, of Gaylord, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at Arlington Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord with burial in the Gaylord Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation is 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home on Gaylord.
He is survived by his wife, April; daughter, Linda and husband Mike Paggen; son, Alan and wife Holly of Rosemount; daughter, Lynda and husband Bradley Hill of Kenyon; three grandchildren; four stepgranddaughters; many nieces and nephews; sisters, Patricia and husband Ronald Grommersch of Nicollet, Susan and husband Karl Kuphal of Gaylord, Judy and husband James Kaufman of Carver, Donna and husband Avery Grochow of Gaylord, and Debra Hendrycks of Belle Plaine; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Hendrycks of Norwood, Leon and Alice Hendrycks of Arlington.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
He was born on March 14, 1943 to Maurice and Marie (Engelen) Hendrycks, in Mankato. He married Sandra Spellman on Feb. 1, 1964, and April Bradbury on March, 18, 1988, in Mankato. He attended school in District 65 in New Sweden Township and Gaylord Public High School. He worked at the Le Sueur Foundry in the die case department.

Harold A. Hopp, 82, of rural Nicollet, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Friday.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Hopp of rural Nicollet; daughters and son-in-law, Carol Leiferman of Mankato, and Linda and Gerald Bode of rural Pemberton; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Jean Hopp of rural Good Thunder, Melvin and Janell Hopp of rural Nicollet, Dennis and Kelly Hopp of rural Nicollet, Harley and Ellen Hopp of Mankato, Gary and Monica Hopp of rural Courtland and Richard Hopp of Phoenix, Arizona; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; stepdaughter and her husband, Kathy and Kenny Franke of Gaylord; stepsons and their wives, Kevin and Ronda Frauendienst of Mankato and Randy and Vicki Frauendienst of rural Nicollet; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Meyer and her husband Rueben of Gaylord; 14 stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Agnes Wills of Nicollet.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Steve Leiferman on Dec. 9, 2001, and stepson, Donavon Frauendienst on Sept. 5, 1994.
He was born Aug. 6, 1919, in Granby Township, Nicollet County, to Carl and Dorothea (Bode) Hopp. He attended country school in rural Nicollet. He married Doris (Fredin) Frauendienst on Dec. 4, 1973, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet. They farmed in Granby Township, Nicollet County until retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet.

Luella C. Heller, 85, of 1425 N. Minnesota St. in New Ulm, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at New Ulm Medical Center.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial in the City Cemetery.
Visitation is 1 - 2 p.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Heller of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Marvin White of Mazeppa, and Marilyn and Norman Goodman of Rochester; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Mueller of New Ulm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, John Mueller.
She was born June 20, 1916, in New Ulm, to John and Ida (Hogen) Mueller. She graduated from New Ulm High School. She married Howard I. Heller on March 3, 1940, in New Ulm. They lived in New Ulm where she worked at Ida's Cafe, Gordy's Cafe and the Colonial Motel.

Beverly L. Baker, 63, of Revere, formerly of New Ulm, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, with burial in the City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Jacobson Funeral Home, Walnut Grove, and one hour prior to services at the church Saturday.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Rhea Baker and Dean and Sharon Baker, all of Revere; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, William Knutsen of Owatonna, and David Olson of Marshall; a stepfather, Lloyd Olson of Hadley; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceeded in death by her mother; and husband Miles in 1992.
She was born March 1,1938, in Slayton, to Vernon E. and Lucile Paden. She graduated from Tracy High School. She married Miles W. Baker on Sept. 27,1959, in Walnut Grove. They lived in New Ulm. In 1961 they moved back to Walnut Grove and in 1964 they moved to a farm outside Walnut Grove and later to Revere. She worked at secretarial jobs in the area for many different businesses. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Walnut Grove, the Eagles Auxiliary of Tracy and the Legion Auxuliary of Walnut Grove.

Melvin G. Bean, 88, of Odin, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at St. James Health Services Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at New Hope Lutheran Church, Comfrey, with burial in Faith Lutheran Cemetery, Comfrey. Military honors will be conducted by the Comfrey American Legion Post.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, Comfrey and one hour prior to services at the church Friday.
He is survived by his wife, DeVera of Odin; aughter, Susan and husband Scott Melheim of St. James; son, David and wife Stephanie Bean of East Wenatchee, Wash.; three grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Bean of Albert Lea, and Marge Carlson of Comfrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elmer, Richard and Forrest; and a sister, Clarice Kramer.
He was born Jan. 21, 1913, in Selma Township, Cottonwood County, to Leon and Minnesota "Minnie" (Parsons) Bean. He attended school in Comfrey and completed one year of high school in Glendale, Calif., while living with his sister. After school, he farmed and was in the dairy business with his father near Comfrey. He served in the U.S. Army from May 1942 to September 1945 in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He returned to work in the Comfrey area. He married DeVera Carlson on Feb. 14, 1947, in Comfrey. In 1967 they moved to Mountain Lake, where he was employed with Land O'Lakes until retirement in 1976. In 1980, they moved to Odin. He was a member of the Congregational Church and the Comfrey V.F.W.

Martha Krzmarzick, 83, of Sleepy Eye and formerly of New Ulm, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at the former Minnesota Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye at a later date.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m.today and continues one hour prior to services Friday at the former Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Krzmarzick of Sleepy Eye; son and daughters-in-law, Cledus and Roselyn Freiderich of New Ulm and Clifford Jr. and Patricia Freiderich of Edwards, Mo.; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her first husband, Clifford Freiderich on May 7, 1974.
She was born Dec. 9, 1918, in Home Township, Brown County, to Henry and Margaret (Rascho) Sellner. She married Clifford Freiderich in Milwaukee, Wis. After his death she married Harold Krzmarzick in 1981 in Sioux Falls, S.D. They farmed in Home Township, Brown County. She was a homemaker. She was a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care Center for the past two years.

Gloria Daun, 66, of Mapleton, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at Mapleton Community Home.
Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service, Redwood Falls, with burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2 p.m. Saturday until the time of services at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Service.
She is survived by her children, Kendra Weyandt and husband John of Thornton, Colo., Joel Bergstrom and wife Claudette of Tennessee, David Bergstrom of Albert Lea, Kristi Leiding and husband Dan of Mapleton, and Kelly King and husband Jerry of Albert Lea; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Scott Paul, in infancy; brother, Roger Daun; sister Ernestine Coubal and aunt, Jessie Bottleburgh.
She was born Oct. 15, 1935, in Redwood Falls, to Edward and Esther (Discher) Daun. She attended Redwood Falls schools. She graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1973. She lived in Marshall in the early 1960s. She moved to Hazel Run in 1971 and managed a liquor store in Clarkfield. She later returned to Marshall and in 1995 moved to Mapleton.

Leona Buerkle, 90, of Gibbon, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at the Fairfax Community Home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4 - 8 p.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon and one hour prior to services at the church Saturday. There will be a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Melvin Bode of Gibbon, Loreen and Dave Nemitz of Ismay, Mont., and Marlys and Donald Bergeman of Madelia; 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Elvira and Edwin Podratz of Hutchinson; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Mildred Bentz of Gibbon; and sisters-in-law, Paulina Buerkle of Saginaw, Mich., and Helen Buerkle of Madison, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adolph Buerkle on Sept. 14, 1993; son-in-law, Alan Howe on June 26, 1997; and great-grandsons, Caleb Bode on Feb. 23, 1988, and Joshua Bergeman on Oct. 31, 2000.
She was born Oct. 9, 1911, in Moltke Township, Sibley County, to Albert and Ida (Dreier) Bentz. She married Adolph A. Buerkle on May 10, 1932, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County. They farmed in Moltke Township, Sibley County until 1983 when they moved into Gibbon. She was a life long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County, and was a member of the L.W.M.L.

Ernest 'Ernie' Mathwig, 78, of Green Isle, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at Arlington Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Green Isle, with burial at the Arlington Public Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington and one hour prior to services on Saturday.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Green Isle; daughter, Bonnie (Rich) Tuchtenhagen of Green Isle; sons, Warren (Tracey) of Glencoe, Ellerd (Barbara) of Henderson, Bruce (Lorinda) of Waconia, John (Althea) of Glencoe, Mark (Barbara) of Brownton, Eric (Beverly) of Litchfield, Ross (Brenda) of Green Isle, Paul (Susan) Mathwig of Green Isle; sister, Elsie Sturm of New Ulm; brothers, Walter (Eileen) of Green Isle, Manley of Arlington, Gilbert (Gladys) of Green Isle, Chester (Betty) Mathwig of Waconia; 31 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers in early childhood and one great-granddaughter.
He was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Green Isle, to Arthur and Minnie (Sickmann) Mathwig. He joined the U.S. Army in 1944 during World War II serving in the European Theater. He fought in many battles including the Battle of the Bulge. While serving in the Army, he received two Purple Hearts, a Good Conduct Medal, the French Photogear and Expert Marksman medals. He was honorably discharged Feb. 9, 1946. He married Dorothy Hoppe on Oct. 22, 1945, in Austin, Texas. They moved to Waukegan, Ill., where he worked as a draftsman in a boiler factory. After two years, they returned to Green Isle and lived with his parents for a year before buying a farm with his brother Manley. He farmed until 1995 in Green Isle. In 1996, he was diagnosed with cancer and the onset of Ahlzeimer's disease. He became a resident of the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Arlington on June 19, 2001. He was a life-long member of the Arlington VFW 6031, the Green Isle American Legion 408 and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Green Isle.

Hildegard Hopp, 79, of Cosmos, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at her home.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Cosmos, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at First Evangelical Lutheran Church and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by her husband Ervil Hopp of Cosmos; children, Dennis (Linda) Hopp of Grove City, Dale (Cindi) Hopp of St. Peter, Douglas (Holli) Hopp of Blomkest, Julieann (Lee) Guggisberg of Morton, Kathleen (Russell) Nordine of Cosmos, Duane (Susan) Hopp of Benson, Dwight (Angelica) Hopp of Cosmos, Donald (Diana) Hopp of Cosmos, Dawn (Keith) McNeil of Cosmos; 26 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wilbert; and an infant great-granddaughter, Christine.
She was born June 22, 1922, in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, to Julius and Ida (Habeck) Borchert. She grew up in Bismarck Township, attending rural Lutheran school. She married Ervil Martin Hopp on Feb. 9, 1945, at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop. After living in Morton and Bird Island, the couple moved to their farm home north of Cosmos, where she worked at the Cosmos Healthcare Center for 13 years until retirement. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cosmos and the W.E.L.C.A.

Alvin Meyer, 89, of Gaylord, died on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at the Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, with burial in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Adeline; sons and daughters-in-law, LeRoy and Lois Meyer of Henderson and Dennis and Susan Meyer of Glencoe; brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Esther Meyer of Gaylord; sister Mabel Wdalmann of Gaylord; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bennie Meyer, Edwin Meyer, Fred Hahn and Wilson Hahn; and sisters Lillie Otto and Clara Hahn.
Alvin Rudolf Wilhelm Meyer was born Oct. 10, 1912, to George and Hermine (Franke) Meyer in Sibley Township, Sibley County. He attended district school in Sibley Township and parochial school in Gaylord. He married Adeline Schlueter on Feb. 19, 1939, in Gaylord. They farmed in Dryden Township, Sibley County. He also dug graves at local cemeteries for many years. When they retired in 1969, they moved to Gaylord. He moved into Gaylord Lakeview Home in 1994. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on the Cemetery Board.

Lyle Pietsch, 47, of Madelia, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at New Ulm Medical Center.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Salem Lutheran Church in Madelia, with burial in Trinity Fieldon Lutheran Cemetery in Fieldon Township.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. at Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
He is survived by his fiancee Pam Anderson; sons, Eric and special friend Karissa Hopman of Madelia and Nick and fiancee Lexi Anderson of Mankato; daughter Victoria Pietsch of Madelia; father Edmund of Madelia; maternal grandmother Eldora Froslan of Tempe, Ariz.; brothers Leslie and wife Bard of Madelia, Lowell and wife Laurie of Lewisville; sisters Lynette Loudon and husband Gary of Little Falls, and Laura Davis of Cottage Grove; stepbrothers and stepsisters Edward Groenwold and wife Julie of Newfolden, James Gronewold of Rochester, Linda Gronewold of Fairmont, Mike Gronewold of Baltimore, Md., and Vikki Jones and husband Philip of Cold Spring; aunts and uncles; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by by his mother LaVonne and stepmother Marylin Pietsch.
He was born Aug. 16, 1954, in Madelia, to Edmund and LaVonne (Miller) Pietsch. He grew up in rural Madelia and graduated from Madelia High School in 1972. He married Terry Wilfahrt on Aug. 23, 1975, at Salem Lutheran Church in Madelia. They lived in rural Madelia and later divorced. He farmed and began working in construction in 1986, later founding the Pietsch Construction Company. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the Madelia Chamber of Commerce, Mankato Moose Lodge and the Associated Builders and Contractors.
